My friends mum is a helicoptor mum.
She once refused to let him cross the road to his house to get his phone if she couldnt supervise him. He was 14 at the time.
He cant do anything on his own. She decides where he goes for his hirthday. She decides what games he plays. She decides what phone he gets. She decides what he gets for christmas.
Its fucking insane and its so annoying because shes practically stolen his youth and freedom. Theo, if you see this, which I doubt you will because your mom probably has restricted mode on all your devices, hope you are doing okay.

My sister and her son - "he's going to be my Little Lord Fauntleroy". He never stepped outside unless she was with him. But when she didn't want to deal with him she'd lock him in a closet. He was on ADHD meds because he "bothered" her. Fast forward to adulthoood -- She got him a job, got him a condo, vetted his friends, kept a key so she could walk in on him any time of the day or night. He finally had enough, took the key away and told her to call before she came over, got a different job on his own merits, stopped taking the unneeded meds, etc. She was so depressed about it that she got him a kitten "to save his soul". She had been telling him that people didn't like him and didn't want to hang out with him (THAT was an interesting conversation with him). And yes she has always been that controlling about everything, not just her son; he was the only one who had no defenses against it. He's 30 now and seems to be doing okay most of the time, thank goodness.

Oh god, this is my mother.
One of my brother’s has a learning disability, I can’t tell you what it is because my mom straight up refused to tell anyone, even her family about what exactly he has. She just says he “needs a little extra help in school” is all, even though I’m pretty certain he has a form of autism. Anyways my mom would coddle the hell out of him- never lets him do anything for himself. Never lets him think for himself, always deciding what is best for him and catering to his every need. She even does his own homework just so he doesn’t get frustrated and gets to spend his entire day watching TV. The worst part about it though, is that my mom receives government aid every month to cover any expenses for my brother- like after school programs, tutoring, medication, therapy, etc. But not once in my brothers life was that money ever used on him. My mom had every opportunity to try and improve my brother’s mental health- or challenge him intellectually but chose to be a helicopter parent. By brother would not be so stunted in his growth, and struggling so much in life today if my mom actually gave a shit about his future. Today, he’s 19, still living with his mom, and she is still withholding all his money every month and he can’t do anything about it because he doesn’t have the mental capability to read or understand the whole situation. This sucks so much, and I wish I could help him but I’m not in speaking terms with my family anymore, so I could only give advice via voice chat. This is just an unfortunate case of a helicopter parent who literally, destroyed their child’s life when it could have been just as easy to improve it

Like I was eating dinner with her family and her mom just causally started talking about super personal stuff I told my friend and when I asked her where she heard that she just pointed to my friend and told me that it was her.
Then this one time I was texting my friend for a while and I said some things I didn't really want her mom to hear. Then a few minutes later I asked about an assignment at school and she texted me saying that it was my friend's mom and that she stole her daughter's phone. So I was like, "Was it you this entire time and you didn't tell me?" And she just responded saying that she already knew everything about what I was talking about.

Our production manager said it was a bet and if he could not communicate properly in 3 months he would be out on his ass. After 3 years he is foreman on one of our production lines and he mainly communicates in swear words. Guess that is what happens when 20 oldtimer blacksmiths are your language teachers. I had one of these poor kids under me shortly after I became a supervisor at an NHL venue. His mom would call him at least once every half hour all through his shift, if he did not answer she would continue to call and the tongue-lashing he received would get longer and longer dependant on how many times she had to ring him. So here's this poor scared 14 year old whipping out his cell phone where everyone can see him in the middle of the rush between periods.
This lasted about two weeks worth of events before I lost my sh*t and demanded his phone. He actually looked relieved to give it to me. The next time she calls, she gets me, and asks where her son is.
I passive-aggressively tell her that I've had to confiscate his phone because he's constantly answering it in the middle of work when he's not even supposed to have it on his person on shift, he can't let it go to voicemail because this person continues to call, and his work comes to a screeching halt while he responds. I tell her that technically I should have reported her son for breaking work policy repeatedly, and if she wants to make sure he's doing a good job at his work, she should stop pulling him away from it.
She sputters a bit about having to watch over her precious son, and I tell her that if she rings in again and pulls him away from his work, I'm going to suggest that he be fired because he can't be trusted to focus on his job with his mommy in his ear. (During this, I am gesturing to the kid that I am definitely not going to do this, I'm just calling mom's bluff). Then I end the conversation.
I hold onto his phone for the rest of the shift, and I sh*t you not, she tries to call one more time with her usual perfect timing, while her kid is elbow deep in the dishes.
I answer. "This is (kid's name)'s phone, if you want your child fired, please speak now."
*Click*, and to my knowledge, she never tried this again. The kid told me his mom apologized up and down that night.
... he still had to call her when he arrived at work, and as he was leaving, but that I can understand.

I honestly can't with my friend's mom. She had 4 kids, 2 of them are adults and the other two are teens. The only boy (who is the oldest) doesn't do any work or go to college. He just sits at home all day and plays videogames while she just lets him. Meanwhile she's pimping out her daughters to modelling and dance for money. She lives in a city that has no jobs available to her. For years she's been moving her kids from place to place because she can't afford the rent or pay any bills, often making them go days without water or electricity. They can't go anywhere without their mom around, only one of them knows how to drive (just barely though, and not legally), and most of the time things like their weight, figure, overall appearance is heavily monitored and scrutinized by the mom so they can still hold those modelling and dance contracts. The second youngest is heavier than her sisters and she's constantly teased about it and her mother is on her ass all the time about it. The mother also makes the girl dress and look similar for the modelling and dance. On top of all that, their mormon, so that adds a whole other level of strictness and helicopter parenting.
I'm just terrified about what may happen to them if the mom passes away suddenly. I have a feeling the girls will only find value in their appearance and continue with modelling and dance until those chances are sucked dry, and they will become strippers or prostitutes as a result, carrying their bum of a brother around in the process. They've been so sheltered that I believe if they ever had to go out and experince the real world it would break them. I worry about their survival now and after their mom is gone.

I cannot imagine being or having helicopter parents. I grew up in the 80's and we had parents that were too busy working and let us be alone. Not to say there weren't helicopter parents, they were a rarity. I wonder if my generation became helopsychos because if our absentee parents.

My friend had a full scholarship almost all the way across the country. By this I mean tuition, room and board, and 3 meals a day for 4 years. Her parents wanted her to stay (and she was 17 turning 18 near the end of her first college semester) they told her they’d pay what her scholarship at a nearby college didn’t cover because she’d be staying home like they wanted. She stayed home and got stuck with the bill. I hate her mother. How could you ruin a full scholarship out of selfishness? Not to mention her mom would call the police to “bring her child home” nearly until her 19th birthday. The cops had to notify her multiple times they cannot bring a legal adult home. My friend is still miserable to this day and she’s a gift to this world it makes me so sad.

When I was about seven, my parents had finally finalized the divorce and my mom had moved into a small apartment complex. We were on the other side of the wall from this boy I went to school with. He had a huge crush on me and I didn't like him so it was super weird. His mom would bang and punch and hit the wall every time she heard us make a noise and the walls were paper thin so we couldn't even talk. She despised us for talking (like wth) because it was annoying her but she was as loud as a freight train. She was always getting us in trouble the cops, telling him and my neighbors lies about my mom and my siblings so everyone hated us for no reason. She did it so many times the cop didn't even care anymore. Her brother also sexually assaulted me and a few other girls in my class that lived in the complex when he came to visit. So yeah, a million other things happened between her and us, but she hated us so much that she got rid of all her piercings and covered her tatoos and then became an assistant teacher in my home room to keep an eye on me and me twin and to be around her son. We changed classes for the year and then moved the next year at the end of the school year. I can't even tell you all the stuff she's done, that's just a fraction of it. Part of the reason we moved is because we already couldn't stand her but she did something awful and hurtful and just plain, well, awful and that was the end of the rope. We managed to move out of that apartment in a week, happy our one year lease was finally over. We moved a few towns over and her and her son are still brats

My mom is kinda a helicopter parent. I get hurt she’s like, “you’re fine, c’mon get up” (if its not obviously serious), but god forbid she seems somebody being rude to me.... oh dear lord, R.I.P those kids souls and self esteems 😂. My dad will watch someone be rude to me and be like “beat em up” and they scatter, because i am willing to fight someone. Usually doesn’t end up good for me or the person I fight, but at least i defend myself

I’ve got parents also who want to do the whole intake for the 19, 20 and 21-year-old who supposedly wants a job. Just last week I had a mother speak for her child who is 20 about wanting to find work. They both came to the office and it was very clear that the girl isn’t really sure of what she wants to do work, school. Mom spoke the whole time and they were off to another agency that works alongside mine for some things after our appointment. Don’t know what to do with that.

I remember when I was in middle school and I wrote in my friends notebook "yo mom knows you smoke?" as an innocent prank (she didn't smoke it was a popular phrase back then in our country). She nearly got a panic attack. I immediately apologised and explained I didn't think it will upset her that much. She explained that it didn't upset her, she was scared because her parents check her notebooks every day. We had a conversation, turned out her parents checks every single folder on her phone and computer, they read all her notes in every notebook, no privacy whatsoever. And to add to that they also banned her from doing makeup (not even concealer, nada) and even shaving her legs until she was 18. They never let her grow up

I’ve dealt with a kid who had a mom that thought he was a perfect angel and he could never do anyone wrong so, this kid got away with a lot at school and daycare.
He would pick on everyone including little kids. A lot of people hated this kid (no surprise there) but they couldn’t do anything about him because the teachers saw it as “playing”. He would pick on me a lot as well as my 2 brothers and it would piss me off.
So one day I was minding my own business when he comes around and starts calling me a retard and saying how ugly I looked. So I told him to leave me alone but he continues to stick around and starts talking shit about my brothers. I got up and scratched his arm and walked away. I got in trouble by one of the teachers and they showed me his bleeding arm.
His mom picked him up and I got suspended. Then my mom comes to pick us up and the teachers explain what happened. My mom wasn’t upset. A lot of parents had trouble with the kid’s mom.
This all happened when I was in third grade.

My mom still answers questions for me when people look me in the eye and ask them to me specifically. She'll interrupt me while I'm answering them to speak for me and say something completely different, and it infuriates me. She's the type of mom to brag about me and my brother and say things that make us sound like the most successful kids of our age. She also make us sound like the brattiest, self absorbed kids i've ever seen or heard. I don't know what she's trying to accomplish by doing this.

I understand when you have a kid you want to take care of them , I mean they're kinda the world. That being said when a parent basically denies their child a basic childhood, and no I don't mean if they give them a little more rules then other parents but if they truly prevent their kids from growing up an average life (I know each family is different) then that's really a problem.

As a teen my Mom wont let me go into the yard without supervision and monitors every show I watch. If I go into the front yard whether she is watching me or not I get serious punishment and am now afraid to literally go in front of the place I live. She is a sub bus driver and will force me to ride with her on whatever bus she is driving because she "is worried about me". I can't leave her side at the store or I get in serious trouble. She won't let me in the basement of the house for so long (which is obviously me trying to separate myself from her) or I get punished. I am not allowed to talk to anyone in the neighborhood regardless of their age. If I do not spend hours with her every day she thinks I'm being rude and ignoring her. I am scared to use my earbuds around her while watching a video because she will yell at me and then sit beside me looking at the video the whole time. She also has to know my password and go through all of my texts. If I want to add a contact to my phone she has to meet them in person. If I do something against the rules she threatens to call the police or send me to a phyc ward.

Pretty sure helicopter parents aren't actually parents. They live under this delusion that if they create life then they can control that life and turn it into an obedient little robot/soldier/servant because "I'm the parent! They HAVE to do what I want! They HAVE to do what I say! I HAVE ALL THE POWER!"

I actually spoke to a professor about my daughter ONCE- but only to inform him she had a scorching case of Aspergers and to please not be offended if she quit showing up. Assured him it was likely she would fail the class, but would probably still read the book and learn the material at home. Assured him there was no need to worry about her or worry I would freak out if she failed. He was ok with that. She did quit after 2-3 sessions. She did read the book and applied the material as she needed. So it worked out.

    Wow, I wrote a novel
When I was in uni, we didn't have dorms. I lived in a very small building with only 3 apartments. So, a couple of years in, a new student moves in one of the other apartments. I'm like 21 at this point. Our landlord wanted us all to cooperate with each other so she rang my bell to introduce us. I really didn't want to but I went. They needed some stuff, like I don't know a broom, or a mop and I lent them mine. He also came to uni without a computer. So he wanted to browse for computers through mine. Fine, whatever.
The problem was his mother. He wanted to "dump" the responsibility on me to be his friend. "But", I argued, "we all have our friend groups." No, he didn't need any new friends, why would he? I met you, so I assume you're good people. He doesn't need more friends.
I also was pretty disturbed by her at some point. I was fighting with my mother over the phone at the same time as a friend was on her way over to my house. I hang up the phone, answer the door and find that bitch leaning toward my door listening in to my argument. FUCK THAT NOISE MAN, I don't need snoopers in my life. After he came over to look for laptops I dropped all communications.
It's kinda pathetic, but I'm kinda glad his father lost his job and he had to drop uni.
