Oorah and thank you for helping to pave the way in your platoon for all future Marines that came after you in your unit,
some may not realize it but every Marine leaves a mark on the Corps that helps future Marines,
it may have just been setting up a camp for all future Marines, or training junior Marines so when they rank up and they could teach the new generation and the cycle could continue indefinitely, or it may have been as simple as you just doing your job and by doing that you were showing the juniors the standards of being in the Corps, every Marine leaves a mark on the corps that eventually helps out future Marines
So thank you brother and Semper Fi 🤙

I was there when MCMAP started, was a huge joke! We had Sgt's going to Quantico and two weeks later back at the suck with a black belt...half the guys in the unit were already killin it in Jiu Jitsu and were dismantling these MCMAP instructors, then the brawlers on club nights would put a different kind of twist on an ass whoopin. The old school method of Close Combat should have remained in place and just added new techniques. Belt systems are a joke and in the civilian world are for making money for schools and academies. Before belt system was adopted Jiu Jitsu only had three belts; white (beginners), blue (more advanced), and dark blue (instructors). Now everyone wants levels of belts, but its blatantly obvious that it doesn't matter the color of the belt its the person and his/her ability to apply techniques and leverage the best. IBJJF requires a person to be a blue belt for two years before they can advance to next belt...why? MONEY! You continue to train for years paying that bill every month! Great example is IBJJF made a change, they had blue belts going to advance competitions beating black belts and winning. So IBJJF said two years min unless you go to one of these competitions and beat everyone, they you dont have to wait two years...WTF! That is the perfect example of why belt system (colors) is a joke. Some damn desk jockey in the Marines allowed this BS because the UFC and other fight clubs were getting popular. Not the Marine Corps style at all, but there you go some officer made it be.

If you where there when MCMAP started that means back in the early 2000s? As a current Marine involved in the program i can vouch that is a lot better then before. They taking the time to bring outsiders from different martial arts to train and teach the marines , especially MAI instructors.

It is, anything the military teaches only works if the opponent is participating like they're taught.
A street fighter is not going to work with you in a fight.
I remember before mcmap we had hand to hand combat and afterwards the instructor said, "If you know how to fight, rely on that not this becauseyou'llget yourass kicked, If you don't know how to fight, keep your mouth shut, don't try these moves at the bar because you will get your ass kicked.
The only thing that works is experience. Nobody cares about belts.
