Savage MK II BV 22LR gets a New Scope

  • I took the Mark II out a while back and could not get it to hold a group. In fact it was shooting six inches to the right. I noticed that the scope was slightly canted with the horizontal cross hair clearly not level. I have no idea what happened. I literally picked it up and noticed the canted scope. Everything felt tight and nothing felt loose so I wanted to see how it shot. Needless to say it did not shoot well at all. Even after an adjustment it would not group. Because I didn't care for the scope that was on it I decided to change it out. I put the same Monstrum 4-12x44 scope that I put on my Ruger LTV. While not an expensive scope, I do like this particular scope for the 22LR target/varmint type of rifle. In this video I take you with me as I sight it in with a 50 yard zero. It shoots good, but I feel it will shoot better with some minor adjustments in ammo or with a slight trigger adjustment. The ammo used in this sight in was Norma TAC 22.

    I helped a friend sight in a new 22 rifle and we adjusted it up and down, left and right for a good 30 minutes and still couldn't get it to hit so I picked it up and checked it out and I found the problem...he had the scope on up side down ! Lol

      I did that once, lol. But as soon as I went to shoot it I noticed and I bet my face turned all red. Didn't take long to turn it 90 degrees to get it right, but man i felt embarrassed.

    👍👍nice looking rifle Cervus. Some rifles just don’t like certain ammo so you could also try different ammo. Thanks for the video.

      Yes definitely will be trying different ammo in this one. I know it can shoot tighter groups. Thanks.

      Thanks! Yes I had it out this past weekend and it is certainly grouping well. I shot some Remington Thunderbolts at 75 yards and they were grouping just under an inch. I think that will be good for tree rats for sure.

    I shot that Norma through my savage bv 22lr and I didn't like it because of all the lube Norma uses on their 22 shells. The federal auto match shot amazing through mine way better than the norma. I was getting the same results with the Norma ammo Nice rifle. Thanks for the video

    • @cervus-venator
      @cervus-venator  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Terry, yeah that lube sure makes it hard to load the mags as they are slipping and sliding back and forth. I really enjoy shooting this gun. It's a fun one to shoot.

    Is that the Monstrum Guardian scope?

    • @cervus-venator
      @cervus-venator  ปีที่แล้ว

      It isn't listed as a Guardian. I got it off of Amazon for $70.00. It is just listed as Monstrum 4-12x44 Rifle Scope with AO Adjustable Objective.

    I have found lasers to be far less useful than just pulling the bolt and bore sighting on most rifles.

    • @cervus-venator

      Interesting as I've had just the opposite finding when using a laser bore sight tool. Whatever works best for you is what you should go with.

      @@cervus-venator true. I am usually at the range in daylight so that helps mk1 eyeball and makes many lasers not visible

      @@treyriver5676 I agreed that in bright light the laser sighter is not very useful. I'm lucky in that I have many shaded areas where I can use it out to 25 yards for that initial bore sighting.
