The Wish is always a fan favourite. A great concept here with the alternative reality. We get introduced to Anya The Vengeance Demon, the moral of the episode is be careful what you wish for. Cordelia being Cordelia opens up the alternative dimension, some great comedy one liners here too, and of course foreshadowing again for the future. Cordelia's vacuous airhead friends are so cruel to her and others. Giles saves the day confronting Anya and restores things back to normal. Again we see S3 being so innovative with much better writing and storylines. It just gets better and better. It's a 'bangerfest' from here on in to the S3 finale.

Structurally this episode is the same as the classic vintage movie "It's A Wonderful Life" and I've just noticed Anya says to Giles "Isn't it wonderful."

Evil Anya was a really fun villain I wish (no pun intended) we got more episodes of her

"High school is not this cutthroat."
I'm going to go out on a limb and say that for a lot of people who went to high school in the 70s and 80s and grew up to write nerdy genre fiction, it probably would have felt this mean. Aside from all the time and place markers (I'm 12 years younger than the characters and also Scottish, so there's a lot of American-isms and 90s-isms here,) this isn't far off how it seemed to me as a nerdy outcast.

"High school is not this cutthroat." It depends where you are on the totem pole and what type of bullys a school hierarchy has. Some schools have bully's that eveyone in school hated and didn't rule the school, but felt they were cool. Some schools have bully's who rule the school popularity hierarchy, and others just have bully's who go after individuals and/or a individual. There are a lot more examples, but I have no doubt this is one way otherwise you wouldn't hear of suicides in high school on the news.

It's easy to forget or better to forget that for a lot of kids this time in their life is their whole world. Everything that happens at that moment is a big deal. Life and death. Most of us survives. For a few it's the best times of their lives, and for a few it's the worst. So in Sunnydale monsters may be scary, but teenage life could be more terrifying.

I think it also depends on the school. I was not popular or cool but I went to a really small school that was made up of two different towns and you just knew everybody. You might not have been friends with everyone but it just wasn't as clearly defined as shows and movies make it out to be in the 80s and 90s but maybe I just got lucky.

I was in and out of the hospital in under 23 hours after having my appendix removed. 2 days later went to a major college football game. Just had to be sure not to move quick or how I bent my torso but otherwise I was good. :)

A lot of shows do and 'it's a Wonderful Life' episode. It's rare for the person who made the alternate time to die, because usually they have to undo it. This is also different in that no-one has any knowledge of the other universe afterwards.
11:30 Vampire Willow is still gorgeous. I'm told that before this episode the make-up team 'vampired' Alyson Hannigan for a halloween costume, so they wanted to have a vampire version of the in the show.

"High school is not this cutthroat."
In the 1990s I don't think school bullying was given the attention it is today, it was more ignored. "Zero tolerance", antibullying or anger management workshops were not yet a thing. The attention of schools usually was focused on the more serious problem of gang violence, not girl-girl verbal bullying. Also probably depends on the community; I imagine affluent image-obsessed California teens would be particularly prone to the kind of abusive cliques shown here.

@5:30 "I'm supporting [Cordy] in everything she does this episode."
@9:40 Anya gives neckless to Cordy "Oh, that's very kind."
Hi Brooke, Do you still stand by both these statements?

Yes because it all turned out okay lol. To be fair to Anya I guess she was trying to help but like in a weird twisted demon way lol
