Good point about the forgiveness, because the lack of forgiveness helps open up a pathway for the Evil to enter and influence people. The Fist Evil here, aka, The First, is the eternal kind that has always been in existence. Angel in this basically gets his first message from the higher powers who seem to want him to keep on fighting to make his amends because he can also be a fighter like Buffy. And Angel has learned a lot from Buffy, including her saying that being strong is fighting. It's hard, and it's painful, and it's every day.

I'm really glad we got to see him struggling with that and they handled it really well especially for the time period.

Something I just realised as you mentioned Oz, Larry and some other students joining Giles in fighting vampires. Luke and Darla are both absent, implying that despite the complete hopelessness of the Wishverse, Giles and the gang at least managed to get a couple of good punches in.
Given how the Master pulled vampire Xander in front of the crossbow bolt, I wonder if he sacrificed either of them to save his own ass during an assassination attempt. Giles did say people had tried to kill him.

Amends was one of the best episodes of S3, and for me personally a top ten from the whole show. We are introduced to The First Evil tormenting Angel through his past victims. The concept of The First is that it gave the writers a way of reintroducing old characters to add to the richness of the show, as The First can channel its evil through dead people attacking the mind of the living. The ending scene with Buffy and Angel is brilliantly acted when Buffy is trying to save Angel from daylight, SMG and David Boreanaz absolutely knock it out of the park here, and The Hallmark movie ending even though schmaltzy, just works so well with the storyline. Comic relief with Willow using Barry White to seduce Oz is funny but sweet and innocent too. Again the acting from SMG and DG at the end was superb. Another great episode keeping up the brilliant quality of S3. This is actually a very important episode in the the show going forward. You can see that you really get the show, and appreciate the writing. S3 is just banger after banger, the quality of the episodes just improves so much.

    That is good timing!
I really like this episode. And normally I don't enjoy Christmas episodes, or Christmas miracles, but it works here, and I think a big part of that is the writting and acting in that last scene between Angel and Buffy. Plus, you know that if this episode air today, the commentary would be all about mental health ;)
It's nice to see Oz and Willow back together, and finding ways to work in that relationship.
And even though I agree with Willow that should be tolerant of Cordelia after what happened, I think revealing Xander's secret was extra horrible, and don't forgive her for that one.
And also, I feel bad for Faith when she's trying to justify her presents. She probably spent the little money she had in those, and still felt that it wasn't good enough. Yet another reason why she feels like an outsider =(

I think part of it is that this particular episode is both very unusual in tone for the Buffyverse and deeply tied to it thematically. Buffy is not the kind of show where Christmas Miracles happen, if it wasn't for the snarky characters and self-aware humour then it'd be one of the most depressing shows ever made, so there's this sense of "OK, show, fair enough, you get _one_ " even if you're allergic to Spirit of Christmas sentimentality. But as cheesy and tonally different as it is, it's also got plenty of very dark elements that prevent it from feeling completely fluffy. Even during the miraculous snowstorm at the very end, the show takes the time to show us Xander sleeping alone outside in the cold.

Waiting another day or two (either one would work) and it would have been the perfect TH-cam release.

Willow and Oz maybe had reached the stage where they could have been physically intimate with each other, but with the whole thing with Xander, they are no longer at that stage and I believe Willow is trying to use sex as a way to get that back. Thankfully Oz realises that and will not take advantage in that way, give him time, Willow, build the trust back.
The 'Powers That Be' (PTBs) caused the snow. They do not usually get involved, but perhaps felt that as the First Evil was getting direactly involved, they could as well.
I celebrate Christmas. With my parents being less able (my mum particularly has balance issues) I am the one who puts most of the decorations up, including strings to put cards on, using mini clothes pegs. We used to have an angel for the top of the tree. but we swapped it for a star some time ago. We also stopped having a real tree as mum was fed up of clearing up all the needles afterwards.
