RAM 3500 Rear Differential Service After Towing 30,000 lbs

  • When he's not assisting his father Richard with repairing transmissions on their ‪@PrecisionTransmission‬ TH-cam channel, Trent Crich is in the shop servicing customers' vehicles. Here Trent performs a rear differential service on a 2018 RAM 3500 dually that regularly tows more than 30,000 lbs. This is the first time Trent has worked with a Banks' Ram-Air rear differential cover. The angled fill port, drain plug, and ‪@AMSOILinc‬ Easy-Packs made his job incredibly easy.
    Ram-Air rear differential covers are available for GM, RAM, and Ford full-size trucks.

      Doubly important, if you work on older or rust belt trucks, cause it's impossible to fill from the drain hole, if you can't get the fill plug out. Better to leave the old oil in, if the customer doesn't want to pay for the time, to drill out the fill plug or replace the cover.

      @@michaelladue5655 when you go to a CDL most DOT officers will just check the Tire rating now and not the truck sticker, You can change a trucks GVWR legally if you want, same with trailers. the truck he has is also rated for that much so idk where you are getting your info. if he is pulling 40k then the trailer would be 40k rated plus 14k for the truck payload totalling 54k, when you load a trailer correctly at 40k your tongue would be 4k-6k tops and that's perfectly within range of this truck

    @Lauren (wherever she went to) I doubt anyone claimed OEM was the worst one to use however, there are many other aftermarket brands out there that DO NOT perform as good as an OEM cover. At least Banks tested theirs and filmed their testing methods as to the improved lower temperatures over OEM plus the advantages of the oil sight glass, top fill plug and lower drain plug. Expensive accessory however, it is better than OEM in many ways.

    Those two parts of the diff cover that extend beyond the original diff dimensions (the "scoops")...if they were cut off and reattached with hinges and kept in place with springs, the owner won't have to worry about tall spots in deeply rutted roads or big rocks the driver can't go around because whatever collides with those spots will simply move them backwards and the springs will move them back into place so they can continue to channel air upwards over the diff cover.
    All it takes is one good hit (2 mph or faster) and that aluminum diff cover will start leaking. Those Banks diff covers are great but they could be made just a little bit better.

      Although we're all for clean, breathable air, we're also racers and have been since 1958 when Gale sold his first engine. We publicly back the RPM act to preserve racing on multiple occasions. Do we wish emissions equipment wasn't necessary on street-driven trucks? Of course. No one likes DEF and DPFs. But as long as it's the law, we're going to follow it. And, we'll continue to invest in new technology, making big power, cleanly. Tire smoke is the only acceptable smoke.

    Why is it acting like it needs a vent

    • @Garth2011
      @Garth2011 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The factory OEM cover design requires the cover to be removed to drain the gear lube. No vent required for that design. Now that the OEM cover is replaced with the Bank Cover, the housing air vent is not large enough to deal with the drain volume but it is still big enough to deal with the needed vent needs. The mechanic only needed to know he could have removed the fill plug on the Banks cover to eliminate the vacuum created with the Bank cover design as the cover is not removed, causing the vacuum.
