  • Boat maintenance can be expensive, so why not do it yourself and save money. My 97 Metcury 60hp was beeping for overheating last fall if it ran for more than 10 minutes. The fix is a simple water pump impeller replacement. This impellar costs about $50 and it probably would've cost another $100 or more to have a shop install it, along with waiting for 2 to 3 weeks for an appointment! Download the manuals and store them as a PDF on your phone and you'll always have them along for troubleshooting, maintenance, or repair.

      I’m not 100% sure because I don’t remember. There’s a couple bushings, a dowel pin, and a rubber connector from the water pump housing outlet that can all come off. What I did was found a mercury service manual online to download in pdf format for that specific motor. I don’t remember where I found it, but I do know it was free. It’s the 40-60 manual rig by from Mercury, with complete tear down and bolt back together instructions, schematics with part numbers, etc.

      55/60 is 11.5 oz, 40/50 is 14.9 oz, and the 60 Bigfoot is 22.5 oz.

    Hey bud, thanks for the video, it helped me a lot with my mercury 60 water pump.
    But could I possibly ask a question. I did the pump on mine but somehow there's a part left over. A rubber washer about an inch inner diameter with a groove around the outside. Is there any possible way I could send you a pic of it and see if you may recognise it and where it may possibly go?

    Great video! do you have any videos of your motor dying while in idle? I have the same motor as you and trying to learn how to troubleshoot it.

      Unfortunately no. I did however have that same problem when I first bought it a few years ago. I rebuilt the carbs and haven’t had that issue since.

      @@wandervieoutdoors yeah I think that's going to be my next job if changing the oil filter, fuel lines, and spark plugs doesn't fix my No idle issue. I did add a bottle of Sea foam and ran the boat for a day on the water but it was still dying. Fun stuff

    Where did you buy the water pump for mariner 60 hp 2 t bigfoot?
    Can you Help with the serienummer :-)?

    • @wandervieoutdoors

      Mine isn’t the Bigfoot model, but I bought it at a local shop that deals in mercury. They can get any mercury parts because of working on them, and are more than happy to sell parts, and even give tips. They have a ton of work on boats this time of year and their wait list is like 3+ weeks to get anything looked at. There should be a metal tag on the out board that has the serial number, model, max rpm, HP, and weight. Usually it says mercury marine on it also. Find that tag and grab the serial number and you should be able to get any part that’s still being made for it.

    There no shift linkage to hook up

    • @wandervieoutdoors

      Not just pulling the lower unit for that. Shift linkage is higher up under the engine cover.

    • @bilgerat711

      does that mean you need to unhook the gear-shift lever under the engine cover before dropping the bottom end?

    • @wandervieoutdoors

      @@bilgerat711 no, you don’t have to unhook it because you’re just pulling the shaft out.
