I always just assumed it takes so long because he has to track every bullet and replace it with a "pew"

He also has gotten into cartoon animation and believe me that is not an easy thing to do

How does that work?
With hand grenades, you have to be closer, they have less power so you have to look high, and depending upon the game, they aren't always thrown from the center of your screen and can get hung up on corners. And once you pull the pin, you might have a time limit. Rifle grenades have no time limit, shoot longer and higher, allow more time to aim, and don't really get stuck on scenery. Just dial in the distance and shoot.
That's my overthought answer to this question.

He's quite good at that, moving the pov as if he is the character to show personality and visual interest to the viewers, it's a really underrated aspect that he puts in

The one where Edberg was making fun of him and him shaking his mouse as if the character itself is the one shouting on the top of his lungs.

He's in the pilot seat of the chopper moving his POV around, looking back at one of the dudes as he asks them a question, and at the end he looks away out the window like he's had enough of their shit

Womble becoming an Artillery piece was supremely satisfying after all that fuckshittery beforehand.

I just realized at 8:38 when he hits the top of the tower and the guy flies off, he doesnt get credit for the kill until the guy hits the ground, meaning that guy was alive the whole way down. Soviet is always so magical. Landing shots when he shouldn’t be, (like his teammates). Then not landing the easiest of shots, (like enemies that are as still as a statue).
The wonderful thing about Womble's shooting is that you're perfectly safe, just so long as you stand directly in front of the target.

@@hhhh-cx1mb he made a paper version of the map, applied ratio for the map, then calculated his weapon and target range using the paper square and applied map ratio. Now you deal area damage (granade), you know the location of the enemy (using the square and paper map) AND the game shows how far your granade will go - thus you know everything and I recruit the Womble for my granade squadron!

I have seen him play full matches, he is cancer to play with on your team. Spends most of his time cathering to his viewers, that his job and all, so he won't pay attention or communicate. In a way, he misses so much because he isn't focusing on playing the game. In another, he is choosing to play like a lost comedian with a go pro taped to his head, making jokes about the situation. It's funny to watch if you like the odd joke but most of it is him rambling. He even goes on tirades complaining about other players, instead of actually helping out.
Not to mention 6:40 literally every other ZF member would go for something fancy like a knife kill and Womble just hoses the building with an RPK.

Digby singing "Surfin Bird" is technically increasing immersion, considering that song originally came out in 1964, and the Vietnam War ran from 1955 until 1975.
And the song was used in the film Full Metal Jacket during the tank scene where Joker and his squad are being filmed and interviewed for US TV, so surfing bird is a classic Vietnam war tune

@@MangoDoxin The map size varies but is probably found in the game files. Someone probably published the dimensions of each map, Soviet divided the dimensions by the grid squares and boom - he now can measure distance for indirect fire.

Titan Uranus The papers he cut match the square on each grid of different maps, those papers have distance written on it as you can see him cutting and lining them on to his screen. Then he uses that to calculate in game distance to use mortar

Because the square is an equal shape, the length, width, height, and a diagonal line between opposite corners is the same.
Soviet is able to look at his position on the map, then the enemy's position. Using his squares, he is able to measure the distance between the two and accurately land indirect fire on the enemy with the rifle grenade.
Without the squares, it would be much more difficult to measure the distance accurately. This is because in the game, the grid squares can be of varying distances. You can see some are ~80m across, while others are ~100m across. This is why he has made multiple squares for every map.
Soviet's answer to "is the pen mightier than the sword?" is "only when the pen is marking targets for my grenades"
We didn't land on the moon or on Mars by eyeballing it.

I love how you used an artillery trick so you can land your rifle grenades. Snipers do the same. They measure out distances from key points and use it to make quick adjustments. I’ve never seen anyone do it in a video game before. So that was cool
I've done it in Battlefield 1 on Monte Grappa. Was sniping from the second fortress gun towards the fort, and sniped someone from roughly four hundred metres away.
I do it quite often in tarkov, though most engagements are within 300 so it's not so crazy impressive.
I used to do it in PUBG with a scope on the kar98. My most successful games were doing that. Sadly I sucked at everything else so never got a win lol
And this is why mortar crews and grenades account for such a high percentage of enemies killed in a conventional war.

It’s super fun to do. Once you figure out some common ranges it’s pretty easy too. But Womble took it to the next level building a map tool to estimate the ranges.

@@Matihood1 With the Pythagorean theorem you can calculate the distance of a side of triangle with the other 2 sides. He just made some paper with the intermediate meter markings of each map. He just has to find the difference in (delta) x and the difference in (delta) y. Once he has those he uses the Pythagorean theorem to calculate the distance from where he is to his target.

The irony of Soviet is that he’s actually really *really* clever. He’s got excellent comedic timing, is quick on his feet with a retort, and he’s quite good at utilizing game mechanics in innovative ways that the developers never intended (see the grenade launcher montage and “laser dot sight strategy” on a prior video). He seamlessly switches between the straight man and the screwball in his videos, which is very hard to do, and since we’ve seen him be funny in other people’s videos, we know it’s not an editing trick, he’s just really funny.
His biggest problem is that he just really *really* sucks at videogames, which is his goddamn job, so we mostly see him friendly firing and fucking up, rather than see him being a goddamn genius at tactics and strategy.
…also watching him fucking up and teamkilling half his goddamn clan is *much* funnier than watching just a montage of him winning…which also might show how clever he is when it comes to dealing with the algorithm. ;)
Still, I wouldn’t mind seeing more vids of Soviet being clever. They’re very entertaining.

The "reload and suddenly there's an enemy" thing, people can hear you reload. As soon as they hear you drop the mag they push
The problem is, it also applies to taking a drink or itching. You watch a spot for 5 minutes, no activity, you take 2 seconds to drink something or itch yourself and right then is when they come. :)
Fun fact: you can cancel reloads at any time. The best way is to just hit 1 (for rifles/main arms, 2 for pistols) and you can instantly keep firing. It even works on the M1 Garand, which you can see the clip fly out when you reload. How does it work? Magic.
