Space Engineers is a voxel-based sandbox game set in space and on planets, developed and published by Czech independent developer Keen Software House. In 2013, the initial developmental release of the game joined the Steam early access program. During the following years of active development, Space Engineers sold over one million units. In total as of 2019 the game has sold over 3.5 million copies In May 2015, for approximately a year and a half, the game's source code was officially available and maintained by KSH to assist the modding community. On December 15, 2016, the game entered Beta and was later officially released on February 28, 2019.
The game is a sandbox game about engineering, construction, exploration and survival in space and on planets. Players build space ships, space stations, planetary outposts of various sizes and uses, pilot ships and travel through space to explore planets and gather resources to survive.

As for what i think you should do, you need to build a 'planet' in that atmosphere. Using large grid blocks.

Literally never going to happen, game cant handle the block so keen put a hard limit (you can turn off) on block count but the game dies way before you have enough to make anything truly worth of a space game.

If he parks the Death Star or Planet Killer inside the vacated atmosphere, wouldn't that be the same thing? Artificial planet, with gravity and atmosphere.
The Voxelless planet could be a way to make nebulas / dust clouds. Remove the gravity and oxygen, throw in some weather effects for good measure.
or crank the gravity for black holes lol

you should build a space station where the planet used to be partially to see what happens but just because it'd be cool, or if you enjoy torturing yourself, make a grid where mini mars used to be as a weird cyberplanet

Yeah, i've created the perfect gas giant for it
gotta give keen props on this engine. it takes a minute but the fact it will register and delete all those voxels and not crash is pretty impressive.
6:26 the planet being chopped in half like this is super cool. I'd like to see a mod planet that just comes in two halves like this, if that's possible.

last time I checked, planets are made using basically textures, and can only have 2d surface level features get painted on.
You cannot create an *actual* planet that's been cut in half.

@@victor_creatorThat may actually be possible, just grab pertnam and it's crater, it'll have a few bridges but it would still be in half.
As someone who used to work on a planet for a server and is a little familiar with this, you can certainly do this. However, there are two main issues. First, since SE uses cubic interpolation between values on the heightmaps, extreme differences in height will cause "death spikes" as I like to call them, which can only be removed via gentle height reduction over longer distances (think like blurring the heightmap along that range). Second, you cannot fully separate the two halves of the planet, as there has to be at least one point where all the voxels converge.
To be honest this is all in theory but the results of my testing and development would suggest it is possible.
Also fun fact there is a way to make specific voxel materials invincible.
I always thought a 'planet' that was just an empty round atmosphere dotted with floating islands (just asteroids with grass and trees on the topside) would've been the coolest custom planet ever. And you've nearly made it by 7:40

Using mods does feel kinda cheaty (might as well just make a planet buster button lol), but the amount of rockets required to do the job would require a super computer to fire in any reasonable amount of time X3

yeah you *could* destroy a planet by regular means but it'd take an eternity to do

More that you can make a mod to do anything pretty much; allowing mods for a challenge kinda opens pandoras box; you could technically subvert almost every part of the game with them. I didn't mean it as a serious accusation, more of funny observation X3 I did admit it's definitely the more reasonable way to do what this video wants!

The way I use to destroy plants was I'd fill a crate with X999999 explosives and throw a warhead at it, but I haven't played in years so I don't know if it still works.
Another way was the only Doom Vortex created by W4stedspace.

Yeah, they removed the vanilla nukes... though it turns out just dropping pistol mags on the ground is more effective than doing the same thing with explosives.

Before planets were introduced, years ago, I made Unicron to eat and mine large asteroids. Before all the mods came out i could only use drills and gravity generators but it was pretty cool to approach this massive ship munching and mining with a vortex of loose rock tornadoing into its mouth.
Can you imagine doing this in a server and someone being utterly confused and terrified of how an entire planet can go missing but leave a "void" of gravity behind?
What I learned from this video: if you want a sturdy ship, build a planet.

I’ve tried myself to destroy a planet and I eventually did but it actually took 5 hours to do so, so you practically did a speed run. And to answer your question on what I am building, I am building a Heavy Assualt Frigate based off the strident class from halo

it makes sense that realistically the death star/star killer would not be able to one shot planets, but would instead require a lot of time and resources to get the job done.
What you need to do is produce the space engineers equivalent of a planet excavator. Don't blow it up, consume it for future production.

Planet Eater, with large ship shipyard, and complete storage and refining capabilities. Basically a space station that refills by eating planets.
Step 1: Get some friends
Step 2: Have friends play on surface of planet and race to build ship
Step 3: Destroy planet not knowing where on planet friends are building
If friends successfully mine resources and build escape pod before they get blown up, they win. If you find them, and blow them up, you win.

Hmm. That reminds me. I have been meaning to test using atmo thrusters in space in an arteficial atmosphere. If it works I may be able to build some really weird stuff.
I'm pretty sure it just check if you're within a planet's atmosphere and not the oxygen levels or anything.
Atmospheric thrusters don't work in artificial atmosphere (assuming you mean a large pressurised room). They only work within planet atmosphere's thick enough to support them.
@@Zer0sLegion so if that check were to somehow be superimposed onto the conditions for a "pressurized room" (assuming it doesn't break everything) the atmo thrusters would work?
This gives me an idea for creating a base. Make 4 holes top to bottom left to right and than make a a base in the center of the planet and line those holes with defense turrets and u got the ultimate planet base
I'm waiting for someone to make a Space Engineers Civilisation Experiment but on the different planets.
That would be seeing people come together, build a super weapon, and attack a planet whole.

You should do some sort of battleship or even just fighter battle on the inside of the planet when the entire middle is blown out! (6:25) That would be so cool and really test the mettle of the pilots of said battleships or fighters, what with the gravity being all wonky no matter where you fly. :D

being at the center of a planet does not just "crush you to death". It Crushes you so hard that your atoms get pressed in to different molecular formations.
This is how liquid hot iron becomes a solid again, through nothing but the pressure. Pressure so great it can make liquid in to a solid.

My dream project would´ve been an entire server of players hollowing out a planet and building a city on the inside.

Early versions of space engineers, you could load cargo bins with explosives and the amount of explosives would increase the blast, it was ABSURD.
It's neat, the atmospheric bubble, let's you take a moment to recharge your other stuff while on the atmospheric thrusters.
Using artificial gravity rings, it could become a good place for a space station, with an "artificial" atmosphere around the station and launch rings to provide a starting boost to ships leaving the atmosphere.
I kinda want to make a Dyson sphere around an empty ball of atmosphere now...
I would love to see a bombardment ship with dozens of bunker busters and when you press a button they all one after another drop down to the targeted area working for any base including underground ones
Back when I still played SE, I remember there was a mod with a bunch of star wars weapons and there were (I mean it probably still exist) two versions of death star's laser - one that can one-shot huge ships and one that can obliterate HUGE chunks of planets in one shot. It was so powerful it crashed my PC after about five mins of processing the damage to a planet, but I did see an absolutely gigantic crater before CTD... or maybe it was a blue screen of death...?
I think it would be funny to make railguns do enough voxel destruction to annihilate a entire planet in one shot.

Well, there's not really a way to do it in vanilla aside from just deleting the planet, which isn't as fun.
This seems like a phenomenal way to create space anomalies in a server (before setup of course).
reminds me of my fever dream of making a ship to excavate planets wholesale. So glad I gave up on that plan before my computer would have broken.
speaking of Starkiller base, I have interesting project in mind, the Ion Cannon inspired from C&C series, essentially 2cm Ion beam cannon firing upwards where seperate grid esthetically designed as Eye of Ra will redirect said ion beam into target, be it base or flying object. Now that I saw that mini planet and Starkiller base I wonder if I should turn some asteroid into similar instalation

What you gotta do is cut a planet in half and turn it into the actual star killer. Figure out a way to rotate your planet ship thing so you can aim your guns, and boom, you are the empire now.
