Catch Fish at Eastbourne: LANGNEY POINT REVISITED

  • Two May sessions (recorded 11.05.21 and 18.05.21) fished at a Langney Point mark in Eastbourne (East Sussex, UK). These were my first spring outings at this venue and were fished either side of high water and as the tide ebbed. The water was too coloured for plaice, but flounders, smooth hounds and large pouting made an appearance.
    I have plenty of other Eastbourne videos covering a range of marks, separated in to season playlists:

    You definitely have one of the best channels. Well thought out with maps and plenty of info for us who actually go fishing. Looking forward to watching more.

    Another good video cobber. I asked the Eastbourne fisherman how come u dont use bells as bite indicators all fishermen used them when i fished Hastings beaches and old pier in my teens. What happened to the stone groynes. Happy catching from AUSTRALIA Nick

    At 15:00 you mention strong side wind in same direction as tide pull. I would have normally thought braid would be better as it’s thinner so less drag, but you said mono might have been better. Are you thinking that the stretch in mono stops the lead being pulled out so much??
    Sole soon hopefully as you say, fished Southbourne & Pennington last week water temp 2.5c cooler than same day last year. Everything a bit behind….. Thankyou again M…

    • @rodsangleuk6283
      @rodsangleuk6283  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Braid catches the wind more and you need to use larger sinkers if the tidal pull / current is in the same direction as the wind, than if you were using mono. I much prefer to use braid (I do likewise for my coarse match fishing), but the lack of stretch sometimes has its disadvantages. As you say, the stretch in mono does help prevent your sinker being pulled out. I do need to use mono more often, but have got out of the habit - much easier to spot bites with braid! I really need to get to Pennington and Southbourne (which I have fished quite a bit) and hope you are catching there Martin.

    I have 2 more questions is Seaford better than Langley.how far out are casting, can you use barbles hooks. I'm hooked now pardon the pun live in South london so Seaford is the shortest distance Trevor

    • @rodsangleuk6283
      @rodsangleuk6283  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Trevor - I would say that to consistently catch plaice (mid-late Feb. onwards) aim to cast 80Yds+. Some use barbless hooks for rays, but these aren't the best of venues to target them, although they will show at certain times ( +more likely at night). I don't use barbless hooks for seafishing; but you always have the option of pinching down the barb if you like. As for which is better - there's not much between them, but I've had more better days at Seaford. As for Langley, I prefer the Sovereign Park stretch than the point itself. I hope this helps.

    What time of year is best plaice and Dover sole can you sole at Langley Trevor happy new year

    • @rodsangleuk6283
      @rodsangleuk6283  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Happy new year Trevor. You'll need to talk to locals who fish it more regularly than me and therefore know it better for that! Generally its conditions that are more important - for plaice I prefer wind off my back and clear water; for soles a bit of colour in the water helps during daylight, but again I'd prefer calm conditions. In my experience March and April have been good for plaice and late August and September for soles; but others would, no doubt, say different!

    Thanks Rod where do you buy your hooks.

    • @rodsangleuk6283
      @rodsangleuk6283  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No preferred supply and I don't often get hooks online Gary - I normally pick up a couple of packets of Match Aberdeens every other time I buy bait from whichever tackle shop I'm in. Normal Aberdeens in a size 2 I'll buy in boxes of 100. If I ever see Nordic bends in a size 3 I'll buy plenty, since I'm running out!

    Is pouting for eating?

      Some people do eat them, but I've never tried. They were big enough.
