  • Three spring daytime sessions (recorded on 30.03.22, 15.04.22 and 05.05.22) fishing for plaice at The 'Diamond', Dungeness (Kent, UK). Despite long quite spells, fish were caught in the first and last session. I deal with my basic approach to targeting plaice here, adapting to conditions, and trying different rigs.

      Plenty of action at the point - a good spot to go if you are having a difficult time catching. Sometimes though you want to fish where there are fewer dogfish and whiting to give yourself a better chance of catching something else! Thanks for watching and commenting and well done.

    Well perseverance pays , I agree with what you said, being there at the right time.
    What sticks out for me me is the lack of anglers on the beach, it would be shoulder to shoulder sometimes at this venue...
    Very enjoyable and put me in mind to go out for a few smoothounds at minnis bay.
    Well done and best wishes

      Thanks Michael and Chris - yes sometimes you have to go several times to a particular spot to be there when conditions are right to catch. I used to do lengthy overnight sessions on Chesil, but don't think I'd be fit enough for that now. Fishing in to darkness, if the state of the tide is right, also helps, if its difficult to catch during daylight. Hope the North Kent smooth hounds turn up in numbers soon.

    Very enjoyable as always Michael. Beautiful venue, of course Dungeness was the venue for cod back in the days. I often found that "iffy" lug/ ragworm seemed to get flatties. Especially when the water was a bit coloured. Thank you for this Michael and I look forward to your next video.

      Glad you enjoyed it Jerry and thanks for your continued support. Yes, there are some venues where old smelly bait can outfish fresh - which is just as well since its not always possible to keep your bait in top condition and sometimes what you buy can be close to its 'use by date'.

    I caught my biggest beach cod from that spot in 1983! Night time and with 120yd plus casts we used special 'Dungie' leads which would hold in the strong current. The cod would dislodge the lead and give a slack line bite. Bringing in a big cod from that distance is Heart stopping! Ah those were the days. Also the beach was PACKED!

    • @rodsangleuk6283
      @rodsangleuk6283  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes - I used to fish here (on the Dengemarsh side) for codling and had a few good night time sessions and as you say, it was pretty crowded. Thanks for watching and commenting.

    Nice sessions Mick .
    beach looks desolate.thought there would a few more fishing there as it's a popular venue .
    Funny how all that kit you lug about you leave your spools a home .not like womens handbag then that has every thing in it .😂 all in all enjoyed 👍👍👍👍👍

      Thanks Stephen 👍 It would be nice to carry everything - and there are places where you can fish in front of where you park and could do that - I'd probably still forget something though! Its not surprising that there aren't other anglers there, given the long walk and difficulty catching at the moment.

    The good news was no whiting and dog fish, in March I went to the boat I had dogs on every cast, even 3 dogs on 3 hooks, countless of them. My second session in April, I decided to go to Galloways, I ended up having whiting on very every cast, with the session ended up at least 50 whiting and no dog. People talked a lot about Dungeness but the same as you said, you have to be there at the right time to have a good session.

    • @rodsangleuk6283
      @rodsangleuk6283  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes - I fished here specifically to avoid dogfish and whiting - its not that I don't enjoy catching them, its just nice to catch something different. The Boats and Galloways should be better soon as more bass arrive, but conditions need to be right. Thanks for watching and commenting.

    • @mvatoiband
      @mvatoiband 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rodsangleuk6283 I was a bit curious when you said you fished the diamond specifically to avoid whiting and dogfish as I thought when these fish are around Dungeness then you would not be able to escape them at any mark because I caught them in huge numbers in other marks like power station, galloways, dengemarsh, point, boards, the boats...but never fished diamond before. So I decided to fish diamond Yesterday and hoped to avoid them but it was nightmare, loads of whiting, the same as other marks, and 3 dogfish, no other fish. Although I noticed you catch more whiting on the west side of the beach, and more dogfish around boards, points and boats.

    Hi we would add a plastic breaker weight to the weight when fishing there because of the tides be strong
    They don't make then anymore witch is a shame because they was great when you wont to hold bottom out there

    Hi wanted to ask where is it best place to fish for bass as you visit many beaches?

    • @rodsangleuk6283
      @rodsangleuk6283  ปีที่แล้ว

      In relation to Dungeness - Galloways and Dengemarsh can both be good, but to the right of the Lifeboat station seems to be most favoured. You could also try the boil in front of the power station.

  • @kenhenley7599
    @kenhenley7599 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Mick. Marvelous video. Never fished west of the power station. Perhaps I should have. I've noticed that your rag looks as though it is packed in shingle or vermiculite. Is it, where do you get it and do you add the shingle, etc., yourself? Also, where do you source your Dungie Blacks? Hope you don't mind me asking. Cheers and take care. Ken

    • @rodsangleuk6283
      @rodsangleuk6283  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Ken - yes Dean's Tackle, Clacton sell ragworm in vermiculite and I pick up my Dungie Blacks from Richardson's at Dungeness.

    Can u please tell me Uk fishing laws
    Why are not taking fish with u

    • @rodsangleuk6283
      @rodsangleuk6283  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Shores / beaches are covered by IFCA regional byelaws, with their own size limits, which you can check online. Piers are private, so may have additional rules that you can find out from whoever operates them. I only take a few fish to eat if they are sizeable; but tend to put most back.

    Hello , Im a new subscriber , enjoy watching your videos thank you , like you i enjoy using lighter rods , lighter continental rods using 3oz max , i fish in the bristol channel mainly close range in rivers/ estuaries. i currently use a colmic teknica pro 30-130 grams , recently had a 12lb bass on it now that was fun ! I was wondering if you could inform me of a uk supplier of colmic ledger rods as i am struggling .... i have interest in the perfetta rod that they have out ? please keep the videos coming , thank you.
