After re-reading the books, I actually feel so sad for Dylan, because everything is WAY funnier and better in the books. The twins are easily main characters, right behind the golden trio, and they’re not just comic relief. Ginny is a freaking bad ass. Ron isn’t a brat and isn’t constantly jealous of Harry, it’s Harry who’s jealous of Ron. And Draco is an absolute villain. Harry says he’s worse than the Dursleys who abused him. Not to mention PEEVES. AND CHARLIE. AND WINKY. Oh man. Dylan would love it and would roast the shit out of these movies for screwing it up so badly.

The premise: Imagine if Harry Potter grew up and became a private investigator for supernatural stuff in Chicago and had a bit of a troubled past. It starts out really episodic/monster of the week, but quickly grows into a big arching story and it's PHENOMENAL.

Draco’s lack of redemption arc is so frustrating, even in the books. I remember being absolutely certain that Draco was going to turn after reading HBP and then he just….doesn’t. One moment, he’s carefully not revealing Harry at the Manor, but then he’s attacking Harry in the Room of Requirement. Even in the final moments of the battle, he’s just doing what it takes to survive. The only Malory who truly turns on Voldemort is Narcissa. I love that moment for her, but not getting one for Draco was the biggest letdown of the series.

Sometimes people don't like the group they're in and distance themself. But it doesn't mean they want to be good people. They do whatever they can to survive. Def felt like staying on Voldemort's side any longer would've gotten the whole family killed so naturally they would aid his enemy subtly.

Yeah mcgonagall is the best but Harry did have to live with the Dursley’s so his moms protection could live on in petunia- if he hadn’t lived with them he would’ve died in the first movie when quirrell attacked him
@@eleanorcb9125 well from my understanding, the protection that saved him from Quirell would have still been there. The home protection came from petunia being Lily’s blood, and as long as Harry could call the Dursley’s house home/under 17 nobody could get to him at the house.

The movies did Ron so dirty. They gave a lot of his bravery moments to Hermione, and warped the times he stood up for Hermione and Harry into a comedic line of dialogue instead of loyalty. Ron in the book is a true G

1:12:25 Draco actually had another task they didn't mention in the movies, but they did mention it in the books. That room was the room of requirements, and dracos second task for voldy boldy was to fix the vanishing cabinet. This one scene with the apple was him testing it to see if the cabinet worked. If you wondering, it didn't LMAO. but he did end up finishing it and that's how all the death eaters were able to enter Hogwarts in that scene where Draco was meant to kill Dumbledore. So he actually was doing tons of work, but the movies failed to explain that clearly.

The movie didn't fail to explain it. They slowly show Draco's progress (way too slow actually) AND Dumbledore outright verbally explains it to the audience afterwards.
Dylan can miss stuff because he's also doing humor and comedy at the same time but a general audience definitely wouldn't.
The amount of spot-on fanfic commentary that Dylan has is INSANE. also “malfoy” “you little shit” is a perfect unexpected AVPM reference, this video sparks so much joy.

Ron in the books wasn’t Harry’s sidekick. He was truly always there for Harry. Hermione’s line in POA, “If you want to kill Harry you have to kill us too” was actually said by Ron in the book.

He had to be left with his aunt so his mothers protection charm would continue to protect Harry. It’s bound by blood and his aunt was LITERALLY the only family of his mothers left. That charm keep Voldy from being able to touch Harry until Harry became of age and this no longer under the blood protection charm as he’s an adult now.
Plus we don't know for sure how the Dursleys would behave if they weren't living with a literal horcrux for a number of years.
And the reason the blood ritual was SO important in GoF was because of the blood protection spell.

I hate that the movies never explained there was a jinx on Voldemorts name, so whenever someone said it the curse triggered and destroyed any magical defenses a wizard put up so Death Eaters could find rebels and capture them. It's a detail sorely missing from the plot of the last two films

The beauty of the ambiguity of Sirius falling through the mirror is intentional. Too often people are separated from their loved ones without ever really knowing if they're still out there alive or dead, hoping against hope for someone to come home that never will. It becomes a massive point in the books where people try to convince harry that sirius is gone but he is in denial and won't accept it.
Also the fact that it was never said that Belatrix used the killing curse, iirc the books said there was a flash of red and Sirius fell back thru the arch and when they looked on the other side Sirius was not there.
I feel like Dylan would enjoy knowing that the kid who played young Voldemort in the 6th movie is Hardin from the After series

I know its a nerdy answer but the reason the death eaters don't just spam the killing curse is because spells take focus and emotional control. they would have too have pure anger and specific intention too kill every person they try too use it on which just isn't possible, they don't know everyone they kill enough too have that hatred for it too work. in the books. Barty crouch/mad eye says something like you could point your wand and me and say all the words and I wouldn't get so much as a nose bleed. its the same reason they cant just make up new spells on the fly very easily or "improv magic"

I think I remember hearing that the reason the durslies are so terrible is because Harry is technically a horcrux and as we know the horcruxes mess with the emotions of the people around them.

But they were aweful before Harry was with them. Besides it should effect everyone in Hogwarts as well in that case even nice people like Hagrid, Ron and Hermione.
@@sawanna508 There were just a regular folks that were jealous and a bit of a snobs. A lot of people are but that doesn't mean that they would treat a child like that. They've took Harry in and Petunia even remembered Dumbledore's letter, they knew it was important. Harry's powers grew with age and he lived with them the whole time. Nobody at Hogwarts had this prolonged exposure to the horcrux as them. Actually, the closest to that was Ron since they've shared a dorm and even while loving Harry, he fought with him the most. After destroying the horcrux Harry and the Dursleys weren't super close but they weren't enemies either, they remained in contact, just hadn't much in common to spend a lot of time together. Let's not forget that muggles are weaker to those things than wizards. Which is probably the most important thing here - wizards are biologically stronger and even with that - Harry still was more of a curiosity at Hogwarts than anything else. People closest to him were mostly great wizards and those who just liked him weren't spending enought time in his vicinity. Remember Slytherin's locket? It was enough to take it off their necks for it to stop affecting them. It was still near but it wasn't working. So yeah, the most important here was the fact that they were muggles, not wizards and were with him longer than anyone at Hogwarts. But that's just how I see it🤷.

To answer the “who won the game?” question: it was Hufflepuff! Cedric Diggory caught the snitch, but didn’t realize that Harry had fallen off of his broom. When he found out about it, he offered to replay the match so that Gryffindor could have a fair chance at winning, but Oliver Wood (the Gryffindor captain) declined.

You've got a great eye for detail. Fred and George got the capital to front their shop from Harry actually, from the winnings he got from the Tri-Wizard tournament. He felt bad about taking money from the event where Cedric died, so he gave it to them on the sly so they could start their joke shop. Dumbeldore was this genius wizard with so much wisdom and power AND CONTROL! That was his whole storyarc. That once he was into deathly hallows and pursuit of power but then he became a teacher when he realised that the pursuit was so destructive and toxic.
This movie destroyed the whole character development for Albus. Smh

I really wish they had included in the movie that the reason Hermione had everyone sign the paper for Dumbledor’s Army is because the paper WAS binding. And when cho’s friend tattle tailed she got terrible blisters all over her face so that they knew who ratted them out. I have no idea why they would cut something like that out.
i like think it was to make umbridge appear more sinister, because i’m pretty sure when cho’s friend snitched it was because her mother’s job at the ministry was threatened. however having umbridge use veritaserum on cho knowing the use of it on a student is strictly forbidden rather than having her friend willingly go and tell her everything she knows highlights that umbridge will break rules and laws to have her way. i have no idea if what i just wrote makes sense, it’s 5am.
