i named both my kids after HP characters, but both are regular names that people wouldn’t know unless i told them. i love my little xenophilius and baby mundungus
I literally am working with a kindergarten kid who is named Hermione and when I was doing assessment with her I casually asked her, “so… your mother really loves reading huh?” And she gave the most tortured sigh I’ve ever heard from a kindergartener and said “yes…” Also she has a classmate named Sherlock which is a whole other iceberg lol
I don't know why I'm surprised there are genuinely kindergarteners named after fandoms that I was in as a teenager, but wow, that shook me to my core. I wonder if these kids end up hating the stories they were named after?
To be fair, Hermione is a normal and quite pretty name. Yes, it is completely linked with Harry Potter today, but... At least her name is not Nymphadora.
I know a lady who named her two sons Phoenix and Ollivander. And they're twins, too. So they literally could've been called Fred and George which are both perfectly normal names that real people have
I know kids named Leonidas and Exodus. Honestly I love dope ass names for kids, especially if future history books finally get filled with their exploits.
I can’t imagine even the biggest fan of Harry Potter naming their kid after Newt Scamander’s assistant, Bunty. You might as well name them Ebony Dark’ness Dementia Raven Way because these characters are equally relevant to the canon
On a college campus I visited, they boasted having a Quidditch team and at one point having a Snitch that could do parkour, which allowed that person to literally climb buildings around campus to avoid the Seekers. If that tale was true, probably the best Snitch player to exist.
My college does too I sat next to them at a club fair. They rebranded to quad ball to distance themselves from jk Rowling. I'm not sure if quad ball is national or just my school
@@emilygillette4329the Quadball rebranding happened last year and has been adopted internationally. When I was introduced to the sport I was told one of the basic rules is that teams have to be fully gender inclusive, so it’s no wonder the sport’s governing body wanted nothing to do with JKR lol
Why is it that people won't read a Bible or believe in the Lord Jesus Christ or trust in the salvation that God has given us through His Son? + But they will meddle with witchcraft which is a tool of Satan and a pathway to the pit that is burning with fire and brimstone? + I truly wish that they would get themselves a King James Bible and starting in the Gospel of John start prayerfully reading, asking the Lord Jesus to reveal Himself in the scriptures and grant them salvation for doing so. Amen!
My brother's girlfriend is a Disney Adult AND a Potterhead, and one time she forced me to take the sorting quiz. I got Hufflepuff but she insisted I was a Gryffindore because SHE was a Hufflepuff and we're too different to be in the same house. She was so mad at me for getting Hufflepuff she didn't talk to me for two full days. She was 31 at the time.
My problem with Harry Potter is that there is only four groups you can hypothetically sort yourself into, while the goated Percy Jackson chads have a seemingly infinite amount of gods they can identify themselves with, which is a lot more fun than the times in elementary school we had Harry Potter day and I always got raven claw and went “what the fuck is ravenclaw” but with Greek gods you already know what’s uppppp
The literal worst HP thing I've ever seen was a website that was just a countdown until Emma Watson turned 18 so it would be "okay" to sexualize her. Even to this day, I feel so bad for her because of how gross people are about her.
The HP community definitely sexualised underage characters a lot in its history, but the grossness about actresses reaching age of consent I think is more of a tabloid thing than a fandom thing. They used to do it in the UK all the time but with 16 because its the legal age of consent here.
@@aeddiefarmer It's true, there are so many cases of that happening to female celebrities, off the top of my head I'm thinking Mary Kate and Ashley or Britney Spears
Oh god I had a roommate who was one of those guys. We were way younger than the peak age group too which made it extra weird, he would've been like 10 when the last movie came out
The thing is my aunt is a Snape fan and she liked him from the 1st book (I believe) when the movie wasn't even out yet lol but who am I to talk when I am a Draco fan XD
I remember being in third grade and my friends, all Gryffindors, made me take the sorting quiz. I took it, got Slytherin, and they ignored me for a week.
Slytherin gets such a bad rep honestly, if you've played Hogwarts Legacy, you'll know that folks from other houses are also d*cks, not just Slytherins. Feels shitty to have one house be so hated, 2 basically ignored and one hailed as the best but that one had f*cking Wormtail, like tf ?
@@StrayKisswHobyStrayKidspeople just don't know how to make a difference between Slytherins in the franchise, and what Slytherins would be IRL. In HP, nearly every Slytherin is bad so it's understandable you hate them in the books/movies, but IRL it's just a type of personality, it doesn't necessarily mean you're evil (just like being a Gryffindor doesn't mean you're nice). Sad that most people don't understand this
It just shows how not well written or explored the concept of houses is. They've become boxes to put people in based on personality traits. The same issue that young adult novels have.
I´ll name my kid Dobby and never give him any clothing until it´s 18th birthday, at which point I´ll give it an old single sock, tell it "You´re free" and throw it out of the house. That´s true fan dedication!
personally i think having read the books multiple times and writing/reading fanfiction is like. the top of the iceberg; reading the books once should NOT be on the same level as playing irl quidditch kurtis pls😭
Yes, i was saying that as well! Reading the books more than once and reading fanfiction is not the same as getting an effing tattoo or having ur wedding harry themed 😭😭
not crazy, lol. I read all the books and wrote a handful of fanfics and the idea of a tattoo or a child named after a character is bonkers. I barely owned a scarf for merch, that's it
Writing any story is hard. The thing about fanfiction... is that even crap work gets out there. And of course it's the crap work that is more meme-able than fanfics that are actually good quality. As all things tend to do.
And lower than the man who legally changed his own name to Lucius and attempted to legally adopt Tom Felton 😂 Like I know fanfic can be delulu but we're not that delulu. I don't think HP is real? That's not what fanfic is 🙈
8:47 i will never forgive kurtis for changing the way my brain works because now everytime i see someone do/say something stupid, his voice pops up in my head and says "DUMBASS!"
I know hearing about the snapewives can be initially disconcerting, but they deserve more understanding then they get. TH-camr, biz barclay, has an amazing video on the subject. It's pretty long, but definitely worth the time.
Agreed, but the interview wasn't really about Potterheads. It was just focussed on the project they're doing, which is great but not really interesting in the context of the video. Especially if you're not a fan of Harry Potter and are watching the video to laugh or learn more about a weird community
i played quiddich at my middle school! they made me be the golden snitch, cause i was pretty small. instead of having to get anything off me, i counted as the entire golden snitch, so other students had to full body tackle me. so imagine you're a principal at a middle school, and you go into the yard at reeces. and one of your teachers is watching casually as a group of nerds tackle a small disabled child over and over again with broomsticks between their legs
Kurtis, buddy, there is no way reading all 7 books is on the same level as getting a Harry Potter tattoo or being on a Quidditch team. So many people read all those books 😅
Fanfictions should be much higher on the iceberg, they're really not weird, there are fanfictions out there that are far better than the actual books. Even My Immortal is a masterpiece in its own right 😂
just requires a lot more effort to write that stuff than the average person is willing to dedicate their time and research to, so i think that's why it comes off as a more dedicated fan thing
And also fanfiction can't hurt other people as it's not forced upon others. Usually ppl who create this stuff put warnings and actively protect it from those who can be uncomfortable. Even dark fanfiction has its role, I understood that even as a child, the only time I was affected by it is the first time I ever read a fanfic and I thought it was canon. It was for a silly cartoon called Angel's Friends and it had gore, death and pregnancy and I remember crying because I thought the character really died. Then I googled what fanfiction is. And, I mean, movies I saw as a much younger kid with my family present affected me much harder than any fanfiction could. And reality is what can actually actually hurt you. So ye, I think It should be much higher than harry potter names and actors harassment. Like, come on, can we care about real people a bit more???
You should do a deep dive into the marauders fandom, it’s so interesting how they’ve created a whole fandom based on almost nothing and also how separated it is from the Harry Potter fandom
Honestly, as someone in the fandom, it’s insane 😭 We have taken the skeleton of almost nonexistent canon information and fleshed it out entirely, almost completely excluding the role of jkr. In almost every fic, you’ll see something along the lines of “f*ck JKR” in the summary before the fic 😭
I get people are into the idea of some mischievous scamps messing around but people somehow forget that the marauders were legit vicious bullies. obviously people can do whatever they want, but the obsession with the marauders warrants a small side eye
@@user-rx6gb5uz2lthey weren't vicious bullies. Their story was told through obsessive racist Snapes visoon/memory. But there's definitely other things to side eye the Fandom on
Maybe I’m biased as a former fanfic writer, but writing/reading fanfiction feels more like a level 1 activity. It was pretty much the first thing I’d do when I liked a piece of media 😅
Yea you're right, fan fiction is so common in every type of media. Even the actual doctor who showrunners have called their respective seasons fan fiction. And Dante Alighieri's divine comedy and especially Inferno is honestly self insert fan fiction. And this doesn't make it any less, it's completely valid as any other type of book or novel. It's odd that it sometimes is considered less since there has been books that started out as fan fiction and are now established series.
Unfortunately, a lot of people view fanfic and people who write it as “cringey”, which is why is kinda has a bad reputation. I think the problem is that really bad fanfic that actually _is_ cringey is sometimes shared on the internet and people make fun of it and assume that is what all fanfic is like. Then you also have the fact that books and movies like 50 Shades and After are both based off fanfics and they also have a reputation of being “cringey”. Long story short: I don’t think the general public is that focused or even aware of the good fanfiction that exists; they only really know about weirder and badly written fanfics and just assume all fanfic is cringey UPDATE/EDIT: here is something else just to prove my point. I just found out that City of Bones (the first book in The Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare) is allegedly, based off a HP fanfic. But that book, and the series as a whole, has been fairly successful, so hardly anyone talks about its origins.
Extra funny because her and some guy must’ve had a conversation about filming it like “hey will you help me record a video where you pretend to be draco malfoy’s hand? And I pretend we’ve been dating for years and keep trying to hold your hand? And that ‘draco’ takes 5 entire years of dating to finally even hold my hand?” Then they must’ve plan and practice how they’d record it. Then they’d set up the lighting. And probably record it a few times to get it _just right._ Then they had to edit it. Then caption it. And post it as if we’re real. I mean I just find the whole chain of events that must’ve led up to the video being posted to be quite funny to imagine, although I feel like I’m expressing it poorly lmao
@@ChamomileTthat sounds bad but there are ppl who do that but just themselves, so it’s just extra sad, having to film and edit a video of yourself pretending that your hand is a different persons hand
That Snapewife Rose describing losing items and believing that Snape was returning them when he felt benevolent reminds me of what my mom and I called the goblin when I was growing up. Whenever we’d lose something and miraculously find it in a place where we kept looking before, we always said it was the goblin. One day my dad (who believed in and was scared of voodoo sometimes, he grew up in New Orleans) *confidently* told us that “there’s no such thing as goblins. 😌” Like no shit. 😂
i don't write fanfic but when i was younger, maybe 13 or 14, i did write a harry potter fanfic.. it was about the plants in the herbology classroom, for some reason all of them were sentient and they were having a little soap opera whenever nobody was in there
Kurtis please do the Twilight fandom next. I will literally pass away when you do your deep dive and find out there’s a huge portion of them who call themselves Rats 😂😂😂
I remember when I was a kid, I was the BIGGEST potterhead to exist. I read the books like million times a year, watch the movies whenever they were on TV and I genually bellived Hogwarts was real and I was hoping I would get the letter on my 11th birthday. And when I finally turned 11, instead of the letter I got suicidal thoughts
Every kid I’ve ever babysat for has gone through a Harry Potter phase. They’re obsessed with it all things HP for exactly one year maybe one and a half but usually even less and then they don’t care about it at all anymore. Every. single. one.
i tried to talk with a potterhead dude who kept harassing me in class about how i felt cho chang's character as that was one of the many criticisms i had despite liking HP as a kid. he literally gaslit me and insisted racism and sexism didn't exist. he then went out with one of my asian girl friends and she stopped talking to me even though i didn't do anything to her. he seemed so proud to have turned her against me. both slytherin btw
@velvetvulpix raven claw is wisdom they are smart and studious but the hat doesn't actually put you in the house you fit in best it puts you in the house you want to be in truly in your heart example Hermione is a clear ravenclaw in action and personality but she aspired to be brave and looked up to bravery so the hat put her in Griff
but the thing is, being logical and emotional arent exclusive from each other. u can say think "logically i should ignore this person for x reasons, but my heart doesnt want to do that because of y, so itll be difficult to do for me" yk?
Y’all the fanfic is titled “Tumbling Towers” also I love how the warning at the beginning of the story says that they want to “pay tribute to the day in a Harry Potter related way.” And then they follow it up with “so… please enjoy and NO FLAMES.” Iconic.
I used to work at Citywalk at Universal Studios. And Kurtis is right. There were Potterheads who would come into where I worked as a Bartender and were so invested into the lore that they would act it out. But it got ridiculous. Having someone sit at my bar and acting "Wizardly" and acting like they didn't know what a Heineken was, asking if it tasted like Butter beer, while waving around a $70 wand and saying what "fine Muggle establishment" we had was funny....the first day. Then it usually happened multiple times a day. What was funny was when Super Mario World came to Universal, this unspoken turf war between the Nintendo Nerds and the Potterheads developed.
I would have taken their wand and broken it, then taped an envelope to your forehead and screamed at them that they are expelled from Hogwarts for having a wand out in muggle public.
In 2021 at the peak of my depression I used to rely on the harry potter universe for living. I’m a part of the lgbt community and a huge marauders fan since I first saw the movies and it always makes me so happy to see people acknowledging this side of the fandom ❤
i read a lot of harry potter fanfiction as a teenager and obviously theres a lot of weird shit but then you occasionally stumble upon a 700,000 word masterpiece that is genuinely better (and well over 2x longer) than any of the books
I agree , I just got into my yearly fanficton spark again. And read an amazing HP fan fiction . Some of them are actual amazing work of writing. But some them are really weird but that’s with any sanction community 😅

I love how kurtis does deep dives into "fandoms" like the disney adults ,furries and potterheads but still does it with respect ,talks about the bad parts and the good parts, it's just really sweet, thank you kurtis
I dont think furries are really a fandom- but i see your point and absolutely no hate to your opinion lmao. But that's something I've always loved about kurtis, he's very eye opening and kind about everything he talks about while still making silly jokes that don't harm people either :)
@@passingby6445 Thank you for correcting me then, I apologize, I probably should've checked beforehand- I gotta stop letting my ego think I'm right even though I've literally watched both of his furry videos -.-
The craziest part about the parents that convinced their kid Harry Potter is real is that the kid DID ask questions but they kept adding more to the story 😭 so the whole point about them learning not to assume whatever they read or are told are real is an even worse argument 😭
It would be amazing to watch Kurtis do a deep dive into the Star Wars fandom. I'm a huge Star Wars fan, but there's parts of the community that can get to be so unhinged that it makes my obsession seem tame.
My mother had a star wars wedding, and she made her dress. It was quite beautiful and a pretty interesting wedding where people were encouraged to come in a costume, not just starwars . Her husband wasn't a fan as much as she was, so she stuck him in a storm trooper outfit. The person marrying them was dressed as slave Leia, and my mom made the dress thats yellowy and purple and white, I think Padme wore it in the movie at one point.
@@femboy_fatale69420There was a toy broomstick that vibrated to simulate movement so you could pretend you were flying. If I’m remembering correctly it quickly became popular with girls and then very quickly was removed from stores.
To the parents comparing telling their daughter harry potter is real to making kids have a relgion - For the record, as a former religious kid, I DON'T THINK FORCING RELIGION ON YOUR KIDS IS ALRIGHT EITHER and I ended up with LOTS OF TRAUMA and sh*tty thought patterns I haven't overcome even like 10 years after leaving
It is much worse in my opinion, how stupid would that child to look in school with other children that know it is finction. When you are teaching your child about your religion you are not lying to him because you believe it. And the most worst part is how disappointed the child would feel that she dis not get letter at twelve and it is lie, and they could even hurt yourself as Kurtis showed

When I was a kid I went to a Harry Potter inspired camp. It was actually amazing and one of the best childhood memories. The school was called Queverton and the story was based in our polish culture. It had it's own houses and lore. They even had a really fun system of dueling that was just rock paper scissors but on steroids. We lived in real polish castles. Genuinely loved it.
@@aghnadash9638 oh my god it was a bit complicated and I'm scared my memory is a bit hazy but I'm gonna try my best to explain. There are three basic spells based on elements. (Not sure about the names, kind of guessing) Aquamento- Water Terrare- Earth Fuera- Fire Water beats fire, fire beats earth, earth beats Water. There is also a protection spell and a break a shield spell. Both of them you can use only one time. You win when you score 5 points. If you win in a normal combat between elements you get one point (like if you say Aquamentowhen the other person says Fueraa) Protection spell works on every element spell and I think it also gives you one point If you use a break a shield spell, when the other one uses protection you get two points. That's all I remember tbh, but it was nice to try to remember the details!
I think what he meant was the type of fanfiction in which you insert yourself into the story which I wouldn't say it's too bad unless you're also past the other levels and legitimately have an all consuming harry potter obsession. I don't think he meant fanfiction by itself is the issue but when it's paired with the rest lol
If you like a fictional story, you don't have to give it up when you get older--but it becomes problematic when you stop accepting the real world because you're stuck in a fantasy world.
Like with anything else, too much of something helpful starts to get harmful. Also--just going to shamelessly plug--I'm hoping some of you might like the music I make too :)
I can't believe Kurtis brought up Harry Potter fanfics without mentioning Cassandra Clare's messed up Harry Potter fanficton, which, after a number of alterations, LITERALLY became the mortal instruments😭😭
Keeping that All the Young Dudes mention so brief was surprising. I feel like there’s a lot more to say about the whole marauders fandom. Like it’s kinda interesting that an entire fandom has stemmed from widely accepted headcanons to the point where people say they consider themselves fans of the Mauraders but no the source material.
I actually started reading harry potter because of the marauders. I saw a bunch of fanart back in 2015 ish and I was active in the marauders fandom during the pre all the young dudes time, we had other fics that were popular at the time and I still reread them to this day. I wasn't a huge fan of all the young dudes I dropped it somewhere in the middle. Great writing but it was nothing like what I was used to reading about and felt like the characters were too OOC, still I'm happy that people found comfort through the marauders/all the young dudes side of the fandom that I don't engage much with these days
lmao yeah, fanfic is seen as such an extreme thing for some reason. i feel like that's probably the reason people take crack fanfics so seriously and don't immediately assume it's a joke.
I mean in all fairness he did clarify that it was about Weird fanfiction, like the pedo ones or the kind where you hope to God the author isn't being fr (they are deadass), which tbh, that's between them and their mental health professionals. But yeah there is absolutely a genre of fanfic that would be lower on an hp iceberg than failing to adopt an movie character/actor.
@@sun_cattle5008 yeah, that's true, but he also used the 9/11 fic as an example. Tbf I don't know anything about it, but that to me seemed like an obvious joke fanfic (if it isn't I agree it's fucking weird hahah)
@@frida8992 yeah the example that he used was definitely either crack or just a British writer, but those AO3 trenches tho brother, I've literally begged for someone to be joking only to find out about a newly invented kink (and that's non-monetizable)
I went to a Harry Potter wedding. The invitation looked like the marauders map. There were 4 groomsmen and 4 brides people who each wore a color corresponding to the houses. There were banners up in the reception area and a candy table with themed treats. The when the rabbi was done with the ceremony he took out a wand and cast the spell “Marryamos” I still have my part favor wine glass with the wedding date and the Harry Potter glasses/scar. I honestly had a great time
That sounds really fun! I don't get why people knock on themed weddings. They may not be for everyone, but you don't HAVE to go to them, you know? Some themed weddings look like a blast. Besides, weddings are basically parties to celebrate two people committing to each other for life--why NOT go big? I really envy your experience, I would've loved to go to a wedding like that vs. all the boring ass ones I've been to.
@@nomoretwitterhandles themed weddings sound a lot more fun than normal weddings. If I ever had one, I’d do a met gala theme, where people could intentionally outshine me.
The fact that Kurtis saw that grown woman crying in Harry Potter land, and his initial emotion was empathy and not cringe/disgust, means I’m a worse person than I thought.
Tbh for some people it’s a special moment be there like that cause it’s a childhood dream and especially with Harry Potter land you can say you have walked down diagon ally. For me personally the first time I went on the banshee flight ride at Disney I cried a little because it satisfied that childhood wish deep down inside me
Well, this _is_ Kurtistown, and you have to be nice to him. He's earned it! Imo he's proof that a guy (or girl, enby, or anyone else, for that matter) can be funny, & even take a few lil jabs, but still have super kind empathy, and not only still be a cool dude but be better for it. @@CopperthefoxThat's genuinely really sweet. :) Tbh, I kinda had a kneejerk reaction to that clip not of "cringe" but still a bit, er, like, "Ohh, that's a bit much, it's just a theme park." But that was instantly changed when Kurtis cut in, _not_ with ridicule (which would be mean), instead not only cutting her some slack, he actually gave it to her and put it in such a way that it seemed obvious. Like, yeah, she's happy, she's overcome with what seem to be good emotions and that's great for her. And that's true compassion, so props to Kurtis, genuinely, for leading by example. (And I know he's not going to see these posts about him; I'm not trying to get in his good favour or whatever. I feel obligated to fix the iceberg tiers because it feels like an itch that isn't being itched. The video is amazing, I had to pause at some parts because I was laughing so hard, and the iceberg is good, it just needs a little fixing: 1: Casual Potterhead. Watches movies once a year and they've read all the books (because this covers millions of people). Maybe knows hogwarts house and patronus. 2: Genuine Potterhead. Watches movies several times a year and has re-read the series. Has merchandise and isn't afraid to show it. Reads fanfiction and possible writes them too (fanfiction is more common than tattoos). 3: Harry potter exists in every aspect of their lives. HP tattoos, HP themed weddings, open to naming kids after HP characters, very attached to the actors (not just characters) and visits theme park ALL the time. Actually enjoyed Fantastic Beasts (listen, I didn't like them either, but I think it's less intense than genuinely believing a fictional story is real). 4. This one was perfect. Genuinely believes HP and wizarding world is real, calls people muggles unironically. 5. No changes needed.
thank you for this! i loved the video but writing fanfiction was below the real-life example of the guy who named himself Lucius and tried to adopt the actor for Draco? Insane lmao.
the most funny aspect about jkr changing things retroactively must be implying that hermione could be black. imagine a black character being made fun of all the time for being an activist against slavery...yikes
The interview at the end was exquisite, that's the kind of fans that are needed more in every fandom. And Ash's views on how to still engage with the world in an ethical way is amazing.

I was a borders associate when the last HP book came out. That 7 tattoo is temporary tattoo we gave out to people. I applied so many of them that night. I recognize that design instantly.
I was actually shaking in my boots waiting for the marauders fandom to come up. I will defend the inherent value of fanfiction about fictional characters until the day that I'm cold in the ground so it was nice that he didn't just shame all fanfic enjoyers. Still crazy that he put it so low in comparison to being on an actual quidditch team or naming your baby lucius.
Writing fanfiction can be cringe and weird but a lot of it is just young people expressing themselves creatively and learning writing skills, definitely not lower than naming a child after a fictional character
As a trans boy who had a HUGE Harry Potter phase, this marauders thing seems like it might be for me, I really liked the marauders when I was in the fandom, did not realise how much gender envy i got from young Remus lol. This video genuinely always puts me in a mood to read other better books out there, thanks Kurtis :)
I had an English teacher who made all of our assignments somehow related to Hogwarts. It was ridiculous seriously. We had to write what house we wanted to be in and why, about a magical accident, what you'd do if you met Harry, find a story similar to Harry Potter, it was so ridiculous. I haven't even watched nor read Harry Potter and had to do this stuff. Students signed a petition and we got a new teacher who actually taught us stuff. Everytime I hear about Harry Potter, I think of her.

Honestly I think making a thirst trap of an actor who was actually 13-17 at that time is a much larger issue than thirsting over the underage character
@@axolotl9861 Not really. One is dealing with a real person (the actor), and the other is dealing with the concept of a fictional character who doesn't exist in real life. If you grew up reading hp, it would be pretty normal to have a crush on a character. Making thirst traps of a real teenager is definitely more concerning.
@@nikis2987 Yeah, it's like having a crush on a Pokemon character when you were that character's age and kinda retaining the crush while you grow up but the character in the original story doesn't. That's not too weird, because you kind of imagine the character growing up with you. But when a real, human person is involved, it gets creepy. Actors are people just like us and deserve the same respect of their humanity.
@@Songmorningit goes to show how normal people age with their types also. I used to be obsessed with the vampire that played in this one show goodness I can’t remember now lol but I was little so when I was like let me see him again I saw the same picture from his age then and was like he’s so cute like a little baby cute! You’re taste should grow with you!! It’s crazy these grown adults get obsessed with the child actors that play the kid.
Please do note that Draco (main one talked about in the video) was an adult in the 5 last movies. Having a crush on Movie 6 Draco is having a crush on a good looking 22 y/o. That is neither uncommon nor problematic. Let's use our critical thinking ;)
I also saw the first Harry Potter movie in theaters as a kid with my mom, and when we left the theaters, it was also snowing. It was the first time I saw snow in my life, as we moved to Utah from California. I lived there for a year before going back to California.
It’s a slow, steady, yet ensuring process that reinforces a a certain belief that Kurtis Conner will, in fact, become more accustomed to fandom culture
This is screwed up but damn Harry Potter is painfully nostalgic. Such a beautiful and interesting world she envisioned. Makes sense to me why people would get so obsessed
Ahhhh the third tier of the ice burg... I remember reading a story on Reddit about a kid who came from Potterhead parents. They and all of their siblings were named after HP characters, and their parents went all out. Problem was, said kid hated the series while his siblings and parents were obsessed. They didn't like their name, didn't like constant HP marathons, the fact that all anyone else wanted to do was something HP related.... really damaged their relationship with their parents. Poor kid felt like their parents didn't care about them as they seemed to have no interest in this kid's other hobbies and likes. All came to a head, huge argument, kid left the house for a while, trying to fix things but strained relationship. It's great to have interests, but I roll my eyes at parents who try to force their interests onto their kids and make them little mini-me's, rather than letting them develop their own thoughts, likes and dislikes.
Fun fact, the IRL sport version of quidditch changed its name to "quadball" in 2022 in order to distance the game from JKR's transphobia and also to avoid potential trademark claims, so even the fan community that got so intense about a fictional magic sport that they built it into a real-world international league is also sick of JKR's terf bs.

Just waiting on Ebony Darkness Raven Way fancontent.... theres gotta be cosplays of her at HP events, right?

if you buy into the idea that my immortal is tongue-in-cheek it gets unironically better than the original books

Same, when he’s thinking fanfiction he’s prolly thinking My Immortal…
this!
Long story short: I don’t think the general public is that focused or even aware of the good fanfiction that exists; they only really know about weirder and badly written fanfics and just assume all fanfic is cringey
UPDATE/EDIT: here is something else just to prove my point. I just found out that City of Bones (the first book in The Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare) is allegedly, based off a HP fanfic. But that book, and the series as a whole, has been fairly successful, so hardly anyone talks about its origins.

My friend works as a counsellor there and she loves it😊

yes
@@aghnadash9638 oh my god it was a bit complicated and I'm scared my memory is a bit hazy but I'm gonna try my best to explain.
There are three basic spells based on elements. (Not sure about the names, kind of guessing)
Aquamento- Water
Terrare- Earth
Fuera- Fire
Water beats fire, fire beats earth, earth beats Water.
There is also a protection spell and a break a shield spell. Both of them you can use only one time.
You win when you score 5 points.
If you win in a normal combat between elements you get one point (like if you say Aquamentowhen the other person says Fueraa)
Protection spell works on every element spell and I think it also gives you one point
If you use a break a shield spell, when the other one uses protection you get two points.
That's all I remember tbh, but it was nice to try to remember the details!

There were banners up in the reception area and a candy table with themed treats. The when the rabbi was done with the ceremony he took out a wand and cast the spell “Marryamos” I still have my part favor wine glass with the wedding date and the Harry Potter glasses/scar. I feel obligated to fix the iceberg tiers because it feels like an itch that isn't being itched. The video is amazing, I had to pause at some parts because I was laughing so hard, and the iceberg is good, it just needs a little fixing:
1: Casual Potterhead.
