3:33:05 you're actually right about this- Anakin didn't turn evil simply because "the prophecy said so". Anakin had abandoned everything he knew by the time he was 8 years old, and the one person who truly believed he could be trained died. His new "father figure" treated him more like a brother, and as such, he grew up with nobody who would truly listen to him. Jedi are told to not have any attachment, and most start so eary that they have no memory of attachment to hold onto. Anakin, on the other hand, remembers it clearly, and as such held a powerful feeling of loss that he couldn't do anything with. That's why he marries despite what he's been told, why he abandons his mission to visit his mom, and why, in the end, he becomes so power hungry- he needs that attachment as much as anyone else, and was never told of a healthy way to gain it. He's a broken character in a world that treats him more like a savior than a human. Obviously it's no excuse for who he turned into, but it didn't exactly come out of nowhere either.

Anakin's fall to the dark side is much more complex than it seems. The dude grew up as a slave which was only the start. When Qui Gon died, Anakin lost the father figure he needed. Obi Wan wasn't ready to train him and he wasn't what Anakin needed. The constant suppressing of emotions is also a big reason why his emotions explode every time something big happens. Like when his mother died. Even with this, Yoda knew of Anakin's pain and did nothing to help him. Anakin was also always treated differently than all the other Jedi. He was given the pressure of being the Chosen One and how important he was. But they also kept a short leash at all times. And then the fear of Padmé's death pushed him even further. Anakin was never truly freed from being a slave. He was a slave his entire life. First he was an actual slave. Then he became a slave to the Jedi. By the end of his time as a Jedi, he was also a slave to his emotions. Only for him to destroy the Jedi and become a slave to Palpatine. The only time Anakin was truly free was when Luke turned him back to the light side of the force

This is a dumb nerdy comment but I still wanted to make it. When the Emperor basically says 'yes, give in to your hate and kill me. Then your transition to the dark side will be complete' and you wondered why he'd tell him that instead of keeping it secret... it's because he wants him to think that, because that's the only way it works. He wants him to think he's falling to the dark side so he will have doubt and be corruptible. He's lying because if Luke killed him for the good of the universe he's doing the right thing. But the Emperor not only wants him to hesitate before going for the kill but also wants to plant the seed of doubt. Very classic Dark side move.

The story of Anakin is so sad... he was never really free, born a slave in Tatoinne, being raised as a tool and a soldier for the jedi (and getting his promotion to knight because of the war), and meanwhile we have Palpatine grooming him in the dark until Anakin doesn´t have anyone else to turn for help (isolating and turning him little by little against the jedi).
The moment when he gains freedom is when he dies after saving his son and killing his abuser...

It fr baffles me that ppl thought and still think that Hayden’s acting was bad. Especially when it comes to the scene where he tells Padme about the Tusken village he slaughtered. You can really feel the weight of his emotions grappling with his actions and capacity for hatred of an innocent party. I also feel that he played Anakin’s frustration of losing his mother very well, bitter and resentful but then impulsively violent

Vader never turned against the Emperor because he didn’t have a reason to. The Emperor told him that Padme was dead, so Vader assumed that their child died with her. That’s why he sounded surprised at the start of Empire when the Emperor tells him that Luke is the son of Anakin. It’s the reminder of Padme and the life he could have had that reignites the spark of good in him. That’s why he offers to overthrow the Emperor with Luke at the end of Empire; it’s the same thing he tried to do with Padme. And Luke responds in the same way she did, by rejecting him.
anyways i could basically write a whole thesis about how Luke is his mother’s son, but that’s too much for a youtube comment. this video is everything to me and i can’t wait to watch it over and over again like i do with your LotR video.

Dylan, something I've noticed while watching this video is how effing smart you are. You are extremely perceptive and this makes you an amazing reactor. Oh my gosh I ADORE this video. I’m an avid Star Wars fan, so this was some of the best content for my soul. Your assessment of the Jedi was spot on. It’s one of the things I love about Star Wars is how the Jedi destroy themselves by forbidding attachment and emotion. Notice that in Episode 6 it’s Luke’s attachment to his father that saves everyone. If Anakin’s attachment and emotions had been encouraged, the whole Darth Vader turn would have been avoided and the Jedi would still be around. But their pride corrupted them and they were blind to a freakin Sith Lord in their very midst because they thought they were top dawg. It’s so tragic and so well done. Episode 3 is one of my favorite movies of all time🔥

If you think about the stress she went through after seeing the jedi temple on fire and she doesn't know if Anakin is alive or not. Obi-Wan comes and tells her 'Anakin has turned to the Dark side and has killed younglings'. Then she goes to see Anakin for herself to see that he's betrayed her and chokes her. 4:00:43 No idea if he'd see this or if someone else has already said this, but there's actually a great theory that the Emperor is actually draining Padme's life to restore Vader. He already claimed earlier in the movie that he had the power to save a life, but he never explained HOW. It's very likely a life has to be given, or in this case taken, to save another one. No one knows anything about the dark side powers, so when there was no physical ailment killing her, they probably just assumed that she had just lost the will to live.

@@cheetahgal1429 this theory would make Palpatine telling Anakin “you killed her” even more messed up

Palpatine tells Vader very clearly in the third movie that he actually doesnt know how to create life but that maybe him and Vader working together could figure it out. You don't need a fan theory if its explained in the literal movies that Palpatine lied.

yessss was waiting for someone to comment this! It's even better when you listen to the heartbeats line up- Padme dies and then Vader takes his first breath.

So glad you appreciated Hayden’s performance. At the time he was mocked heavily to the point Hollywood would only cast him in mediocre films and all the hate eventually lead to him retiring and oddly enough becoming a farmer. He came out of retirement to reprise the role. A lot of people said he couldn’t choose between over the top emotional and an emotionless robot. Sadly, they did not get the point. He’s supposed to be suppressing his emotions because the Jedi teach to let go of attachments yet he’s full of emotional attachments and he’s trying his best to appear as if he does not until it all pours out in an extreme way. He loves to the extreme and he gets angry to the extreme because he bottled up emotion. I’d say Hayden absolutely killed it and more recently he’s been receiving his flowers especially from the generation that grew up watching the prequels. So it’s nice seeing grown adults watching the series for the first time understand and appreciate his performance.
Not that it’s necessary, but it does make for great viewing, the Clone Wars really adds dimension to the prequels. There’s even suggestions online for which episodes are necessary. That way you bypass the filler, which early seasons have a lot of.
The lightsaber colour question, they’re powered by kyber crystals. There’s an old lore and now a Disney lore. Old lore is that kyber crystals are a set colour and each colour represents the wielder. Both lores have the Crystal call to the Jedi. Red was synthetic and unstable said to be more powerful and Jedi didn’t use them. The new lore no longer gives meaning to the colours, a Sith however, as part of their training must defeat a Jedi, take their lightsaber and remove the Crystal to then “bleed” it to make it turn red. The Acolyte recently showed this process happen while a lightsaber is ignited and was really cool. A lot of people said it went against Anakin, but it didn’t. The idea is you can only bleed a crystal when you are convinced you’re on the dark side. In that moment in The Acolyte she gave in to her own darkness. Anakin meanwhile does not fully give in until later. The emotional turmoil of the murder shows he’s doing it to force the darkness to come out, but there’s still humanity in him, that’s why he was crying, he regretted it. So his Crystal was never going to bleed because he was conflicted. The Sith eyes come and go for him. Even while he fully becomes Vader it takes him awhile to fully submit to the dark side. An inner conflict that remains with him until the day he dies.

You have to pour your hate into the crystal. She was touching it (broken hilt) so it bled the crystal. When done on purpose the Sith holds the crystal and focuses on their hatred.

Waw Dylan, you have outdone yourself. Thank you so much for these four hours of entertainment and laughter while rewatching this beautiful saga. Your emotion at the end got me as Anakin's got you. You are wonderful at what you do and I love watching the content you create. It always makes my heart lighter and brightens my mood. You are a clever, passionate, cultivated, hilarious person. I really do hope you are happy, you deserve it for making so many of us less sad whenever you post a video. Anyway, got a bit carried away there but, if you ever read this, I hope it makes your heart warm and comforts you in continuing your journey as a creator. Much (parasocial) love ❤
