I think the GTS is the sweet spot of all Porsche’s, you have a daily that can be tracked and that will keep you comfortable on a longer ride. I have a 2022 Frozen Berry Metallic GTS 4.0 with PDK and love it. She’s my daily driver and my weekend backroad rocket. Such a lovely vehicle. Puts a smile on my face every time I get behind the wheel. Great video
I agree, with the exception of the Cayenne. The Turbo Is very much a touring trim and has the extra HP and sport plus, vectoring, PASM, sport exhaust, etc.
That was a very honest review. I have owned multiple watercooled Porsche sportscars and currently own a 991.2 GT3 RS and Cayman GTS. What you rarely hear is a Porsche owner call it "true". Its usually you must own a GT division car from both motoring journalists and owners alike because they are the "best". Simply not the case and as a daily driven sports car in the real world there is little that betters the Cayman GTS. Fun, practical, quick, agile and good round a track. Its all about corner speed not HP.
Agreed. I have my 911 series 2 convertible for my weekender for days I want to drive like the lady I am with manners and when I want to rip it up I take out my gt4rs to get to vent off the stress of caring for the family. They are totally different yet love them both. I must say the 911 being a manual is actually more enjoyable at slow/low range but the gt4rs comes into its own when it’s highway time. The ultimate would be the gt4rs in manual as the pdk system ruins the raw experience!
I think it's a great car just very underpowered for the money, much like the Lotus. For not much more you can get a Z06 which is many levels above. Or even a used 997 turbo manual
@@Angus_____it's true they have always purposely neutered the cayman but the truth is they could give it 500hp and dentists would still pick a 911 over it.
Nice review man. I just picked up a 2021 718 spyder in Python green as my daily driver. Been about 2 months - and I will say - i personally believe all the reviews stating how raw the car is, are very blown out of proportion. I got the sofas 2 way seats and they are incredibly comfortable and supportive. The suspension is very nice and the car rides incredibly smooth and handles rough roads just fine. “Back breaking” is definitely not a phrase I would use to describe it. I upgraded from a 981 base cayman and it rides much nicer than that. Also the clutch is very light. Def 100% acceptable for a daily driver imho. I should prob also add - I’m 34 years old - so maybe young compared to the average person buying at gt4/spyder but I wanted to present an unpopular opinion to the majority.
Hello, fellow pg spyder owner! I love my car, but I also wouldn’t say it’s ideal for daily duty, unless you have a high tolerance for a rougher and louder ride. I do have the lwbs, so that may be part of it. Obviously, personal preference is huge here. Epic cars, regardless, but I do think you need to be of a certain mind set to enjoy the spyder/gt4 as a daily. That said, the spyder is in a whole other class, looks wise, imo. Bgts is a great looking car, but the spyder is sublime.
@@hbullock Hey man - congrats. I would def agree that the spyder/gt4 isn't the IDEAL daily driver. A corolla or hybrid accord would fit the bill for that - but given the car the spyder/gt4 is, i think it is very reasonable to be a daily and i wouldn't describe it as harsh in any way. Sport exhaust shut its actually very quite even with the roof down. Maybe someone coming out of an S class could describe this car as "rough" but i certainly don't think so. So far every person that has ridden shotgun has been surprised at how smooth and comfortable the ride has been.
I fully agree with your comments. I daily a GT3 RS 991.2 and I still think all the "raw" comments are totally out of hand. I am 31 and I am very fine with driving it day-by-day. Doesn't bother me at any time with the suspension etc. Of course Clubsport takes some of the space away, but the frunk is basically all we need as a couple when traveling.
Daily driving a Python Green Spyder? I can't even imagine the PITA that must be solely because of the attention it would draw. Friend of mine has a Miami blue one that I've spent ample time with and it's brutal stopping anywhere with it. Aside from that, they are wonderful cars. The compliance of the suspension is unbelievable, espeically compared to 981 and 987.
@@Poorschedriver its honestly not that bad. Maybe because where i live there are lots of other nice cars. It does get alot of attention but its not overwhelming - you learn to tune it out. the most annoying part is every civic/brz driving teenager that tries to race me/doing their fly bys.
I special ordered a Porsche S, 3.4L , 6, naturally aspirated. It arrived October of 2013 as a 2014 model. It is the most reliable car I have owned with 87K miles. It is my daily driver. No mechanical issues. Great gas mileage always over 32 mpg on the highway. I’m trying to convince myself to purchase a Macan as a more practical choice but have a hard time parting with my Boxster. I’m glad Porsche brought back the naturally aspirated engine, though they could have just used the 3.4L with 315 HP. Great video, thanks.
Between these two, I’d pick the GTS. I want a comfortable daily driver that still is great to drive. That’s why I have a base 718. I’m personally good with the sound and horsepower, love the way it handles and don’t want to track it so for me it’s great. No longer do I need to impress anyone or out power anyone on the street. Maybe I’ve finally grown up in my 70’s… maybe not.
Another great video, love your honesty. I totally agree with everything you’ve said, for me, the GTS is an incredible car but you definitely don’t get much attention vs the GT4 which turns heads and looks a lot more special. Depends what you’re looking for in a car, but I love the GT4’s impracticality, it reminds you you’re in something special
Yeah the GT4 is definitely special. Feels like a rare super car that you definitely don’t drive as a daily driver and this is what makes it all the more special and worth every penny. Plus it is ready to pounce and race anyone else on the road, like a stealthy panther, which is what mine is.
@@cmetube to be fair it’s not like the GTS isn’t ready to race anyone on the roads, on public streets a stock gt4 vs stock gts is going to come down to the driver. On public streets aero doesn’t matter much and on rough pavement the gt4 suspension won’t show it’s advantage. On a track the gt4 suspension and aero will show their full benefits, no question there. But public street conditions are quite different from track.
I completely agreed with your comment at the end about being young and "willing" to compromise with the harsh ride and noisy interior. I think when you get much older, you will realize why Porsche makes so many different configurations, because different strokes for different folks. I am a bit more established and confident about where I am in life. I could care less if people think I am driving something special, just as long as it's a Porsche that put's a smile on my face and does not beat me up while driving through town. Or, do what I have done and own several different Porsches for different occasions.
Had a GTS 4.0 for over a year due to Porsche not going to sell me a GT4, I actually have now come to the conclusion that I have ended up with the better car for me.
@@nintendive exactly the same. Couldn’t get a GT4 allocation so ordered GTS 4.0 which I’ve had since September 2022. It’s not my daily driver so as much as I love the GTS I still wish I had managed to get a GT4.
It’s certainly a nice problem to have, having to decide between a GTS or GT4. Ultimately I would want a GT4, but I do think as an all round sports car that 4L GTS is really hard to beat. Interesting to see your reaction right at the end though, getting back in the GT4… that occasion and special feeling, surely that seals the deal for the GT4
Me personally, i'd go for the GTS. As a daily driver, the GTS would be alot more easy going and relaxing. And with British B-roads being how they are, the GT4 would result in a much more uncomfortable ride. I haven't taken my own 987.2 Cayman to a track yet, but I plan to later this year, but going to a track in general is something I don't really do. So i'd feel like i'd be wasting away the GT4's potential if I did buy one. So whilst i'm sure the GT4 feels more special, i'd much rather have the GTS purely for the most usable daily aspect of it. Besides, it really is basically a road going GT4 , which would suit me perfect.
One of the best comparison videos on these cars. I’m on the waitlist for the GTS 4.0. I hope to God I get one before production ends as I plan on keeping the car forever
I owned a GT-4, GT3RS, and the 718 GTS 4.0. I took German delivery of the GT-4 and drove 1,800 miles in Europe. It was a blast, went on Autobahn 130 MPH to 155 MPH sustained at times for 15 to 20 minutes. It was months later delivered to USA. I literally put 800 miles on it over the next 3 years then sold it. Front lift was not an option on GT-4. I would scrape the front coming out of my own driveway, over speed bumps, sometimes potholes. Although replacement of the rub lip was relatively inexpensive, it was constant mental anguish. Amazing car but track car. I am impressed you can daily drive it at all. The GTS 4.0 is only consideration between the two if you actually DRIVE as a daily.
Good comparison! Thanks for making this video. It's certainly a difficult decision when considering second hand examples vs new including the 981 GT4 vs 718 GTS. Neither seem like the wrong choice!
I went back and forth test driving many GT4s and GTS 4.0s. I was going to get a used 2023 GT4 until I was able to get an allocation for a brand new 2025 GTS 4.0. Decided to go with the brand new GTS 4.0 given I could spec it the way I wanted and I would be the only driver. Both cars are amazing.
I‘m watching this video hoping the GTS would be close to the GT4 because the GT4 is my dream car and now that Porsche announced they are going to stop production the price for used GT4s went up from 100k€ to around 120k€ Not a big problem if that‘s stable but if it climbs up (especially in 2035 when petrol cars get killed) I fear that a Porsche GT type of car will no longer be something achievable. I want an old school yet modern NA sports car with actual aerodynamics. No fake vents, no fake sound, manual gearbox, mid engined- a proper sports car. Let‘s hope for the best so there will at least be the chance to get a GTS in the future. Great Content! Greetings from Germany
From Germany, amazing!! If I were you, I’d put an order in for a GTS and then wait to see if gt4 prices come down etc. GTS is more than enough and close enough to the GT4 to get the enjoyment you need
Great review. You really can’t go wrong with either choice. I own the Boxster 25 and love it as weekend cruiser. From the subtle differences you nailed in the comparison, the mannetino that can transform the GTS with a turn of the dial vs always “on” in the GT4 stands out for me. They’re both insanely good!
Good review! I think the GTS 4.0 is the car to have… The GT4 is a super cool car, but I wonder if after the initial excitement of a GT4 dies down, you’d wish you were in either a GTS 4.0 or a GT4 RS? I know I’d choose a GT4 RS every day of the week right now, regardless of impracticalities or any other factor. All beautiful cars though. Your GT4 is a cool car to own. ✌️
Nice comparison video. I’ve always thought of my Boxster 4.0 GTS as more of a Spyder Touring (same drive train, but slightly different suspension/aero set up). This sort of confirms it. Cheers.
Nice video thank you very much, some useful stuff in there! I am picking up a used GTS 4.0 any day now. I did consider the GT4 but as it’s my only car plus I’m unlikely to take it on track (with any regularity) I decided the GTS is perfect. And I slightly prefer the look of the GTS. That GT4 did sound better though and what a machine it is!! 😮
There are a few more ways to distinguish a GTS 4.0 from the 4 cylinder cars: 1) single intake slat on each side 2) unique wheels (used on the 981 Spyder) 3) larger brakes than those of the GTS 2.5
You can’t use the wheels as a distinctive point of the GTS as there are so many options buyers can choose and hardly anyone will spec the standard wheels.
I have a 981 GT4, and a 997 Carrera S with PASM. The GT4 rides better than the Carrera, it’s definitely not too stiff and I have the carbon race buckets. I was thinking about training the S for a 4L spider but dealers are totally crazy with markups.
Long story, but I did eleven laps in a GT4 in Las Vegas and it was phenomenal!! But two things stick in my mind - first, I may not be able to get a GT4 and second, I don't do track days and may be able to afford a GTS. Also, the PDK is killer. Thanks for the video.
I think you are spot on. I have an ND Miata and was thinking of upgrading to a Boxster spyder. Last week I test drove the GT4(they didn’t have a spyder in stock) and the GTS 4 liter. They were at the same price. It’s a question of better lap times on the track or having more fun in virtually all other situations. To my surprise I thought the GTS was easily the better road car. The suspension was tuned for the real world and it felt more fun/forgiving for NorCal canyon roads. By contrast, the turn in on the GT4 felt sharper and there was definitely less give in the suspension. It’s easily the better track car. If you are not tracking regularly, for a daily driver/canyon driver I think the GTS is the one to go for even at the same price. I’m surprised more journalists aren’t singing praises for the GTS 4l. I guess there’s no replacement from trying them first hand.
I don’t know, if you’re going to buy a sports car and a Porsche sports car at that,, I appreciate the full sports car experience. 718 Spyder! It provides that and at a price point that’s really very reasonable considering they are also an appreciating asset. If you’re looking to daily drive, find comfort, quiet and not even an open air experience there are so many other brands that do all of that really well.
I bought and sold the GTS 4.0 last year great car but jumped at a GT4 when offered it, it always just lacked that stand out set of visual features for me. GT4 arrives in March and cannot wait even with a degree of impracticality as this is purely a weekend car
@@jay_b.. totally agree at one point while waiting on the GT4 I put a deposit down on the Alpine a110 R as an alternative as I lacked control with Porsche as to when the GT4 would happen, the alpine would of taken longer so I stuck with the Porsche
Good review. Keep up the good and detailed work. I preferred the GTS over the Spyder because of the practical roof, higher ground clearance, Sport Chrono modes although I think that the Spyder looks better, more unique, more special.
Love the video! I decided to go with a Spyder (manual w/ comfort seats) for tooling around to keep the feeling of a GT4 but also have the open air experience. For track work, I prefer the 4RS with the bucket seats! You always need the right tool for the right job.😉
Sounds like a 👌 combo 😍 How do you find the long gearing in the Spyder manual gearbox? Going for those high revs on a country road limits your use of a manual shifting (being in 2nd most of the time, right?) 🙏
@@lukasklacansky893 Honestly, it does not really bother me. I actually enjoy the longer gearing at higher speeds. I would find needing to shift while trying to merge from an on-ramp and dodge traffic to be a bit annoying. It’s the same in GT3’s as well. The shorter gearing on the 4RS with PDK is sublime!
that's my dilemma as well, considering and the spyder, but the main question for me is the ride and the height of the cars, also the front bumper of the GT4/Spyder could be an endless issue on parking ramps , driveways, curbs , etc. I don't live in a country with nice roads, here is even worst than UK, so what is your suggestion. thanks ! (of course I like the GT4/Spyder more, but from practical point of view prefer to have a car that i can drive almost daily and not be stressed 90% of the time that will hit it under...as well will use it for long journeys, more that 1000 km so the comfort should be there somehow..)
The an issue I have with the GT4. I scrape the splitter a LOT! To the point, I try to avoid multi storey car parks because of the incline going up and down the floors. If that’s going to be a big issue for you, then GTS is the way to go. But I’m happy to trade off that stress for the ability to daily a GT car
The GTS has 10mm more standard ground clearance than the Spyder/GT4 and you can also no-cost option (as I did, and Porsche UK generally also does with its GTS Press cars) a further 10mm raised suspension to cope with rougher road surfaces. The fact that you’re now 20mm higher than a GT4 is visually noticeable and the car doesn’t look so good, but the tradeoff in ride comfort and peace of mind makes it worthwhile. The fact that Porsche UK seem to do it on their Press cars implies that they also believe that the standard GTS suspension is too low and hard for UK road use, let alone the even more extreme GT4 setup.
For me the gt 4 is one of the best looking cars, prefer it to the 911s, absolutely love it. But a billion potholes, speed bumps and I'd find it too stressful, I have a 981 s, in sport plus it feels embarrassing/stressful driving through town so you never do. Review was great 👍
It is nice to be able to have the choice between the two, for me however, i would have the GTS 4.0. Main reasons are, i dont go to the track, like a Sunday afternoon drive with the wife, like to do a longer trip and have the extra comfort. I am biased as i have a 2015 GTS Boxster and i bought this over the spyder model. There was a significant price gap, GTS being less expensive by almost $ 15k, which was part of the decision. In terms of being a head turner, everywhere i go, people look at the car, mind you that is without other Porsche cars around.
How to choose between a personalised new GTS or a used GT4? I would opt to get a new, personalised vehicle. My 2016 981 (base model) was personalised to my exact specification, I paid not a penny for anything I didn't want, and got 4% discount off MSRP for everything I wanted. You might get a good price for a used Porsche, but the 'what if' (you got this and not that option) question will haunt you forever.
Curious, would you rather just get the GTS, saving the money you need to buy the gt4, and using that money down the road to buy the body kit and wheels you want, essentially making it the car you want without the initial high dollar price tag?
I ordered a GTS 4.0 because I couldn’t get a GT4 allocation as a first time Porsche customer. Took delivery in September 2022 and love the GTS but still wish I could have got a GT4 slot! I don’t daily it so practicality is less of an issue and feel like the GTS is missing a little bit of added excitement that the GT4 gives. The GTS feels like a gateway car for me.
When did you place the order for your GTS before it arrived in September? I'm thinking of placing an order for a GTS and want some idea on how long I would have to wait for the arrival. Do you know if it is any easier to get an allocation for a GTS now as opposed to a year ago? I was considering the GT4, but not having purchased a Porsche from a dealer, it doesn't look possible for me.
@@69FOSTER placed deposit with Porsche Centre in May 2021, car arrived September 2022 so about 16 months. From what I was told when collecting, the wait is now longer if you can get an allocation at all. Worth asking around different Porsche Centres though!
I'm surprised we don't see more people modifying water-cooled Porsches by dropping in a shorter final drive ratio into the differential. All of them since at least the 9X7 generations have really long gearing. It would be an instant jump in engine responsiveness. I assume Porsche uses the ratios to improve fuel mileage but an owner who doesn't slavishly respond to the "upshift" cue probably wouldn't notice much difference.
I love my BoxEngine served as flat six naturally aspirated just like organic German beef or unsweetened cultured yogurt. When the engine are running idle l naturally gravitate towards the sound of the GTS and I’m sure to like the leaner power delivery as I chase the Rev in a GTS. Now that’s my considered subjective opinion, on the other hand having a boasted GT4 option is fantastic and it is tuneable being a turbo so this would suit certain drivers more than the GTS.
Solid review, shame the 718 GTS has recently gone up by £5300, (£68k > £73,300) it makes the decision even harder, GT4 starts at £81k~. it's tight.. knowing what you want out off the car is even more important. Thanks.
Unfortunately, the 718 GT4 and Spyder have been discontinued for the 2024 Model Year. Luckily, there’s many on the used market as they’ve predicted more 718 GT4s and Spyders than they have GTS 4.0 so there’s lots to choose from
Side air intakes have 1 split on the GTS 4.0, another way to differentiate . Did you say what seats you had in the GT4? Not sure why the seat height so different.
Lucky me I own both a 2024 GTS 4.0 and a 2021 GT4. My GT4 is purely a track toy. If one enjoys track days and lots of them then the GT4 is the way to go, but if one is going to use their Porsche as a daily driver with the occasional track day or no track day then a GTS 4.0 is 100% the right car. A GT4 is WAY to noisy and stiff as a daily driver or worse a road trip car.
Thanks for sharing your insights, it's very useful coming from somebody who owns both cars. What would you recommend to someone who is looking for a weekend toy, which won't be neither daily-drived nor used on roadtrips, but that has no plans to visit a racetrack anytime soon? Would you still prefer the GTS in that case?
Yes. For sure. I LOVE LOVE LOVE my 2024 BGTS 4.0 manual for driving on the road, and I'm a hardcore track nut. I started tracking in 2014 with a 2011 Porsche 911 C4S, but got to try a Cayman R soon after so I bought one and sold the Carerra. Since then I've owned 5 Boxsters, 4 Caymans, and raced both as well. I was driving to work with a 2022 PDK BGTS 4.0 but I had to retire for medical reasons, and so I traded my PDK for a manual since I only had PDK in that car because I sat in traffic a lot going to work, but now I couldn't be happier with my manual BGTS. I do NOT enjoy driving my GT4 to and from the track. It's definitely up to personal preference, but I find the GT4 way to loud and harsh on bumpy roads, and for me just not nearly as enjoyable on roads as the BGTS. Check out my videos for some track stuff I've done :) Thanks for the reply! Joe
@@girarcat It may be personal bias, but I find the GT4 noticeably louder then the BGTS. I'm headed out to the track today and will drive my BGTS to pick up my GT4 which is in storage and will see if I can download a decibel app to confirm my opinion.
@@girarcat Did the test yesterday. 75 decibel max in the GT4 and 68-70 in normal driving. 63-65 decibels in the BGTS normal cruising and 72 max. Not a huge difference, but truthfully the noise in the GT4 would be really annoying after to me on a long highway trip. Spent a glorious hour driving the country side with the top down in my BGTS this afternoon.
Great video. I have a 991.2 GT3 and have a Boxster 4.0 GTS in order having ruled out the Spyder as was too GT4 based. I think it’s going to be a great road car
I will get the 4.0 GTS but with the GT4 more aggressive front bumper !!! Because in my eyes, the GTS front bumper looks out of place for a car that cost so much !!! 👍👍👍
I'm so jealous of your prices right now. With the economy, the exchange rate is right near 1-1 and to be able to pick up a brand new full PTS spec GTS for only 80,000 is mind boggling
I think you’d have to be crazy to spend 15% of a cars value to PTS it. On that basis a decent spec Cayman GTS here in the UK is just over £70k plus a couple of grand in road taxes. That’s around $95K US.
The GT4 is not able to drive into a parking house due to the low front bumper (Bőschungswinkel). The lack of a lifting system is a great, the major drawback.
Nice video. It’s a tough one and both are considerations for my next car. The GTS 4.0 PDK is currently the same price as a manual GT4. The GTS is more liveable but visually less exciting and less dynamic when pressing on from what I can gather. For me it’s a weekend car and also a car to do road trips in. Conflicting use cases!
You have nailed it. I myself thinking between gts or gt4. I doubt I'm ever going to be going to a track day so the gts appeals to me. But th looks on the gt4, just makes it that little bit harder to decide. About a month ago there was a GTS 4.0 on autotrader and it had a wing put on. I was really tempted to go for it. I suppose that will be the one to get. I'm not sure if there is an aero kit available
Thank you for the really great review. I would like to ask you a polite question. Do you think it is better to add (PASM) (Raised 10 mm) option to GTS car or not to add it?
The video cost comparison was wrong as he’d mistakenly included PTS paint in his GTS price (only an idiot puts PTS on such a “cheap” car). Used GT4s are currently 15% more expensive than new GTS but as you say, GT4 depreciation will probably be less and the difference in total ownership cost might be marginal. Personally I went “new GTS” because I like to spec the car perfectly to my taste and don’t trust first-owners of used cars to have “run them in” sympathetically or warmed-up the engine before maxing out the revs!
driving a 981C both are expensive cars with high tax & fuel consumption stick with my 981C which is still a car that the average person can just dream of so consider myself already a fortunate person one can always want more …
thanks mate, how about the ride stiffness and comfort between GT4 and GTS 4.0. I drove a friend's GT4 PDK a few days ago and felt it quite hard and stiff, comparing it with the ride of my Cayman 981 S with SPASM it's like night and day....the 981 rides much more calm and comfortably...it's a really noticeable difference , is it the same case with GT4 and GTS 4.0
GT4 definitely rides a lot stiffer (but still forgiving) & the GTS is definitely the better / comfier driver. But, when pushing on, the GT4's suspension comes into play a lot more. Just really depends how you plan on using the cars
I can better answer this as have a GTS 4.0 and regularly drive a GT4 previously. If you don’t opt-out of the (Standard) SPASM on a GTS, then there isn’t a huge difference between them. If you opt-out of SPASM on a GTS and select PASM instead, you soften it off further by a small amount, but it’s still too stiff for everyday UK road use in the Sport setting and every owner I know leaves it in comfort unless track-daying it. I think there is an age thing going in, because when I was 25 I would’ve taken the harsher SPASM because it gives the cars a slightly lower stance, but now I’m 50 I don’t give a s*** about that !
@@neilturner6749 :-))...i see...for me probably GTS 4.0 with PASM (just -10mm lower) is the best way to go....the ride is the first point but the major one is the GT4 front bumper...i still feel that this will be the most frustrating thing with this car and even I love it, this will make me suffer at almost every parking and ramp....
I am considering the GTS/ GT4. If they introduced a front-axle lift system like they have in the RS, it would be amazing for UK roads. I love the look of the GT4 but am thinking it will be tough to get around the fact that it sits much lower and thus affects ability to go over bumps and inclines
It’s WAY too trackie for a daily drive. I mean you feel every bump on the road BUT the exhilaration of sound makes up for this inconvenience. I would drive to heaven in if I could lol but as for being stuck here on earth 🌍 it’s my weekend car only not a daily drive.

Couldn’t agree more Will. The GTS is all the car that needed. The GT4 is the car you want!
I like the way you’ve put that one!
Great to hear you’re still loving the S! 87k miles is a fantastic achievement 👏🏼
Driving a Cayman in any trim in your 70s is pretty cool in my book. Most 70 year olds I know drive Cadillacs.
Cadillac is the most boring thing on this planet.
Thank you mate! 👊🏼
It’s definitely a factor that depends on which type of owner you are.
The GT4 isn’t for everyone and that’s ok
AS one who lives in the US and tends to drive quickly, I definitely prefer less attention.
Or, do what I have done and own several different Porsches for different occasions.
great honest direct no fluff review
I went with the gts 4.0
I look at it as a touring gt4
Yes, agreed! Kinda like a GT4 touring
Had a GTS 4.0 for over a year due to Porsche not going to sell me a GT4, I actually have now come to the conclusion that I have ended up with the better car for me.
@@MrHCars if only it had the GT4 stance, wheels and front bumper, it would pretty much look the part
@@nintendive exactly the same. Couldn’t get a GT4 allocation so ordered GTS 4.0 which I’ve had since September 2022. It’s not my daily driver so as much as I love the GTS I still wish I had managed to get a GT4.
@@prazzy4712 many of the option wheels on GTS are way nicer than the GT4 wheels.
Roads primarily vs Track primarily.. don't over think it.
Agreed mate. You can’t go wrong with either.
You also get the 25 year anniversary Boxster to make it even more special 😁
As an owner of a gt3, I would do gts
This is an excellent informative video !!! I have a 718 Cayman S. I'm thrilled with it.
Thanks Anthony! 💪
Fingers crossed you get one before the EV's arrive
Where are you based? i've got an order on one in the UK and it's a matter of 'when' and not 'if' over here?
@@lapos1979 I’m in Pennsylvania
Thanks Alastair! 👊🏼
Money is a key factor that drives decisions in whichever direction too. But agreed, it’s 1st world problems for sure
I‘m watching this video hoping the GTS would be close to the GT4 because the GT4 is my dream car and now that Porsche announced they are going to stop production the price for used GT4s went up from 100k€ to around 120k€
Not a big problem if that‘s stable but if it climbs up (especially in 2035 when petrol cars get killed) I fear that a Porsche GT type of car will no longer be something achievable.
This video perfectly explains my choice of a GTS 4.0
Great review. You really can’t go wrong with either choice. I own the Boxster 25 and love it as weekend cruiser. From the subtle differences you nailed in the comparison, the mannetino that can transform the GTS with a turn of the dial vs always “on” in the GT4 stands out for me. They’re both insanely good!
Good review! I think the GTS 4.0 is the car to have…
The GT4 is a super cool car, but I wonder if after the initial excitement of a GT4 dies down, you’d wish you were in either a GTS 4.0 or a GT4 RS?
I know I’d choose a GT4 RS every day of the week right now, regardless of impracticalities or any other factor.
All beautiful cars though.
Your GT4 is a cool car to own. ✌️
Definitely not the RS
Most honest review i’ve seen. lovely that this isn’t about your ego as so many are, total respect
Appreciate the kind words & glad you enjoyed it!
Nice comparison video. I’ve always thought of my Boxster 4.0 GTS as more of a Spyder Touring (same drive train, but slightly different suspension/aero set up). This sort of confirms it. Cheers.
I've owned 3 Porsches in my lifetime and they all have made me feel special. Enjoy that GT4, it's beautiful!✨
A GTS is definitely on my wish list. Maybe when the preowned prices come down in a few years. Until. Then my 981C is still lots of fun.
Glad it helped Chris. And with all Porsches, you can track the non GT stuff too if you wanted. They’re sports cars first
Hope you enjoy your GTS 🙌🏼
Exhaust is identical on both cars
There are a few more ways to distinguish a GTS 4.0 from the 4 cylinder cars:
1) single intake slat on each side
2) unique wheels (used on the 981 Spyder)
3) larger brakes than those of the GTS 2.5
Good point! I was mainly thinking about GTS 2.5L I drove, which had identical spec
I really enjoyed watching the video. I think your comparison summed it really well and agree with your thoughts 😊
Thank you mate! 💫
Good to see Porsche supporting up and coming creators. Good review as always Mr H.
Making me want to move into the Porsche fold.
Yeah amazing to work with!
We know you’ll be in one one day mate 👀
I agree with everything you said with one additional point. I think TCO will be lower for the GT4 as I think it will hold its value better.
Don’t blame you Lee. Great chance to say you’ve owned both cars too ✌🏼
Hey, is it possible to order a GT4 without owning a Porsche prior?
@@jay_b.. don’t think so I did try but had to go down the route of another first
@@Time_To_Drive thank you. It is silly what Porsche forces people to do. Enough to put people off buying their cars.

Great video, the 4.0 gts has a lot to offer.
Thanks for the review! Hopefully one day I can drive one
GTS with PDK is a more practical and comfortable "daily driver" and saves a lot since most dealers are asking a big premium for GT cars.
Thanks Pedro! Very envious of your choice of tools 😍
Sounds like a 👌 combo 😍
How do you find the long gearing in the Spyder manual gearbox?
Going for those high revs on a country road limits your use of a manual shifting (being in 2nd most of the time, right?)
🙏
15:39 "spending my money wisely" 😆😅🤣
yea I got a chuckle with that too, better spent on NVDA if you wanna be wise
I bet you wish you’d bought that 981 Spyder now because it’ll surely be worth way more than $15k more than the GTS!
Actually, the best one of all is the Spyder. Best looks, GT car, two tops, slightly softer for street use, and much more special and collectible.
I have a 981 gts and recently I installed a gt4 kit !!!
The outside look of a gt4 and the interior of the gts
It looks great as a daily driver
Curious, would you rather just get the GTS, saving the money you need to buy the gt4, and using that money down the road to buy the body kit and wheels you want, essentially making it the car you want without the initial high dollar price tag?
Great video. How do you get on with the GT4 ground clearance? I had a 981 spyder and it was an absolute pain in the backside
I’d go for the GT4 for sure!
@@69FOSTER I would imagine the only way to get a GT4 now is buy one off the forecourt over list but always worth asking.
GTS for me. As ridiculous as it sounds carmine red, full leather option and burmester make it my sweet spot.
Luckily, there’s many on the used market as they’ve predicted more 718 GT4s and Spyders than they have GTS 4.0 so there’s lots to choose from
I got a guards red GTS 4.0 coming in May. I'm excited..
Joe
@JoePeck66 thank you so much! Is the Gt4's cockpit noise much louder than the GTS's? Thought they would be pretty much the same!
Which car do u enjoy better
I wouldn’t rule out the previous model gts either. Incredible bang for bucks.
Meh. 4 cylinder is a non-starter
Porsche do make the best cars....styling is classic but the drive is second to none
I will get the 4.0 GTS but with the GT4 more aggressive front bumper !!! Because in my eyes, the GTS front bumper looks out of place for a car that cost so much !!! 👍👍👍
Daily Cayman S is good enough and it is much cheaper but not much slower.
Depends on where you live.
Thank you so so much for such a detailed video. I think I’ll stick with my GT4
I'm so jealous of your prices right now. With the economy, the exchange rate is right near 1-1 and to be able to pick up a brand new full PTS spec GTS for only 80,000 is mind boggling
Yep, expensive cars over in America 😕
Agreed! It’s a 1st world problem for sure.
If they made a GTS with GT4 styling, then everyone’s happy 😂
@@MrHCars pretty much bang on! An aero kit for GTS.
GT4 is so much more special, I’d say those PDK GTS are very overpriced and will come down hard.

I am sure he is awfully proud of his GT4. Tried to count the number of times he referenced “my GT4”. Gave up at a 99.
Thank you for the really great review. I would like to ask you a polite question. Do you think it is better to add (PASM) (Raised 10 mm) option to GTS car or not to add it?
SPASM is not that low. Not need to raise.
GTS 4.0 all day
Great video!
Before I watch just based on the thumbnail: you bought the wrong car
@MrHcars Can the headlight of porsche gts 4.0 come out i want to buy it but i have only one concern about it
Perhaps next time you should not occupy two handicap parking spots.
the 2.5 GTS has VERY different front-end, vents etc
New GTS for same prive of use GT4 … sure but then see what’s the depreciation for both cars in 2-3 years. Gt4 will be cheaper one I think.
The throttle squeezing scene at about 3:23 sort if looks disturbing to me....watch it and see if you get the "drift"....
It’s just the valves closing as it goes over a certain rev range , to adhere to UK noise regulations
gt4 has bigger coolers, stronger brakes and fully adjustable geometry. these things must be considered for serious track use owners
driving a 981C
both are expensive cars with high tax & fuel consumption
stick with my 981C which is still a car that the average person can just dream of
so consider myself already a fortunate person
one can always want more …
Gt4 for sure! I’m driving a 718 Spyder
Good video bud!
Thank you mate 👊🏼
GTS in black, stealth mode.
The Porsche badge itself is loud enough.
thanks mate, how about the ride stiffness and comfort between GT4 and GTS 4.0.
Money is no object . So I would buy them both. If money were an issue than GTS would be the preference.
First world problems 😅 981 GT4 slays both if ‘em for Special feeling. Proper sound, better driving dynamics and original after all.
Very useful video. thanks
Do you think sounds similar to gt4? ☺️☺️☺️ mine gts 4.0 will arrive this may… great channel man.. i appreciate your contents a lot 😍
Appreciate the support mate! 👊🏼
And sounds exactly the same as the gt4, same engine after all.
Enjoy the new whip 👏🏼
For me having either whip for a daily just means I'd have to change my briefs more than daily
GT4 for me. Maybe even a 981 version for its rarity
I think the BMW M3 grill has met it's competition
???
So here's my question. 718 GTS 4.0 or pony up more cash and get a used 911 (991.2)
Have you driven either in [actual] snow? Cheers man!
Neither in “actual” snow. But I have driven the GT4 in minus degree ice in January, on cup2s 🥲
It’s the one you want until a 911 GT3 RS rolls up.
I have the gt4rs it’s awesome ❤
It’s WAY too trackie for a daily drive. I mean you feel every bump on the road BUT the exhilaration of sound makes up for this inconvenience. I would drive to heaven in if I could lol but as for being stuck here on earth 🌍 it’s my weekend car only not a daily drive.
Do you daily gt4?
I do. Albeit, I don’t do a lot of driving because I work from home
I really want a GT4 or GTS, wish it could fit a baby in the back. Civic Type R it is 😅
If you can afford a GT4 or GTS, you can afford a nice “nearly new” 911 with back seats.
@@neilturner6749 have you tried lifting a baby in and out the back seats of a 911? Just sold my C63, new Civic due in a few weeks. I will own a naturally aspirated Porsche at some point but now is not the time, and it’s £130k + for a used 992 GTS with back ‘seats’, the 718 Boxster starts at around £70k. I won’t be smiling any less in the Civic! 😆
Very good video, as an old fart the GTS checks all the boxes, so I have order one, but in white.
Good video bro
