  • The Porsche 718 Boxster GTS 4.0 gets a slightly detuned version of the Porsche 718 GT4 engine producing 400bhp and delivering 182mph top speed and amazing dynamics. Here's my full review of this gem of a Porsche..

      @@Fluterra I've had PDK on my 981s. With the GTS4, I obviously have the manual. The Torque curve is very strong from 2-2,500 rpm, that is why you don't have to wring the hell out of it in every gear. I'm still running in, so haven't taken over 4k when the screaming engine / exhaust note really starts, but it is already beginning to show it self from 3500-4k. So - unless you've actually driven one, there is no point having an opinion I'm afraid. I was worried with all the talk of long gearing, but as Harry says, it really isn't an issue and given you can do 80+ in second, real overtaking at near legal speeds is always superb.

    Finally, a reviewer that appreciates the effort that has gone into these cars. So many go on about the gearbox, about the engine seeming quieter than the previous gen 6 cylinders - it's always like they are sheep following the herd. @user-jf8gd3lv7q 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Thank you! These are exactly my thoughts about this fantastic sports car!
      All these annoying "critics" about the gearbox, mostly coming from people who have never driven or will never drive or own this car, is totally ridiculous!!! Just keyboard warrior clowns, but nothing more... LOL!
      A lot of crazy people are just commenting and criticizing about things, they really have no fucking clue!
      The 718 Boxster GTS 4.0 maybe is the best (kind of "still affordable") open sports car on the planet, period! But sadly too many clowns are still raging about the 718 Spyder/GT4 and GTS "gear box and gear ratios"... Hahahaha!!! This is almost too funny.
      The manual transmission/gearbox of a 718 GTS 4.0 is the most satisfying thing you will find in an open sports car/roadster, because it fits perfectly to this car.

Previously I hadn’t aspired to a 718 but having seen Harry’s review I’m back in the aspiration game for a GTS!! Great stuff Harry keep em comin’. 👍🏼

    As an Evo fan from issue one, I always like to hear your impression, Harry. And the fact that the second gear is a none-issue for you echoes my personal view as well. I've been running a 981 Cayman GT4 from new, I really don't care much about the long second gear at all. I think it's blown out of proportion by many journalist.
    This Boxster GTS is in fact THE sweet spot in the Cayman/Boxster range.

    I just picked up mine yesterday with manual in SoCal and now getting PPF/CC. Between this video and SavageGeese on the GTS 4.0 there was zero hesitation when I ordered it in February as I've been eyeing one of these for quite some time. And this may very well be the last of the breed which makes it even more special. Can't wait to pick it up and go straight to the canyons.

    I have the 718 Spyder and feel compelled to back Harry up on this.. the gearing, long though it may be, is nowhere near as problematic as most other reviewers make out. The torque more than makes up for it and I manage to use gears 1 through to 4 quite easily on a series of back roads. On the subject of MPG.. I've regularly seen 34 mpg average on A roads.. 718 GTS, GT4/Spyder.. you can't go wrong! Great review!

    • @bobpleau
      @bobpleau ปีที่แล้ว

      For me it's no problem at all. Though the torque numbers seem modest, the reality is that there is plenty of torque, even at a low 2000 rpm. And it makes sense with six 4"ø cans traveling a 3.1" stroke... those are V8 muscle car pistons.

    • @JackPickle
      @JackPickle 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Totally agree. I also own a 718 Spyder. Utopia - could the gears be slightly shorter, of course. But that is splitting hairs. I am enjoying every minute with the gearbox in these cars and more so than my 981 GTS PDK. Even if Porsche reduced 2nd to 70mph, law breaking speeds are still very close. The key as Cowan states is the torque. It almost feels like there is a small turbo on the engine! This all results is fun short shifting and the ability to pull in any gear. GTS 4.0, Spyder and GT4 are very hard to beat. Mine is a keeper car given NA ICE is a dying breed

    I drove a Cayman on a track once. It felt amazing. Plenty of shove, engine right by your ears, and it would rotate around corners beautifully. By far the nicest handling car I've ever driven. I struggle to see why anyone would want a 911 over it. It could only be heavier and less poised.
    I'll let all the 911 lot push the prices on those up, I'll wait for these to come down!

      If you have 2 small kids and need the +2 seats then this car won't do. To me, the Boxster/Cayman are not an alternative to a 911, especially now the 911 has become a very fast luxury grand tourer. Boxster/Cayman = Sports Car. 911 (992) = everyday super car.

    • @michaelh5722
      @michaelh5722 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      nordicmonkey if you are even slightly tall, I don’t know how you could squeeze kids in the back of a 911, although I’m not experienced with the latest model.
      If you do want a GT car however, the 911 is probably the most affordable choice, if you could call £100k affordable.
