Rosetta Stones are a powerful item to be collected in Final Fantasy 8 Remastered. One Rosetta Stone will teach one GF x4Ability. This unlocks an extra ability slot on the character that has that GF equipped for even more awesomeness. Also of note, Rosetta Stones can be Card Modded into Shaman Stones which are useful for other tricks too!

Hey bro I like the way you said it "Since the dawn of time" I laugh i swear. I played FFVIII wayback 1999 i was 13 back then now I'm 33 still playing the remastered version
C.E.R same I’m 30 now, when it came out I was playing it like a normal rpg lvling up and farming so the game was wayyyy harder than it should’ve been. Needless to say I never beat it so coming back to it brings back good memories and it’s more fun reliving the story and understanding the systems in the game better.
Jeremy Joyner exactly the same story with me, I kept playing ff8 by grinding early and then getting stuck on the final bosses. Tried the game again when I was 16-17 and got stuck the same again. Now I’m playing it for the third time at 29 and looking up guides to make sure I don’t get stuck again, so much I’d missed in earlier play throughs. Hopefully third time is the charm.
Man, getting this to work was a nightmare! No matter I did I couldn’t get more than one to drop for a few hours. It didn’t matter how flawlessly and quick I got to the cell, after my Rosetta, it just wouldn’t work. I even completely uninstalled and then reinstalled the game in an irrational attempt to completely cancel out my RNG. I have no idea it might actually do anything, mind you.
So after a couple hours I read forum threads on GameFAQ and couple YT videos and they were virtually identical to your’s.
…Except for two things, one of the videos mentioned that after you get a stone to drop(on PS4) you need to actually close the game after you save, rather than just exit to the title screen to get another to drop. They even detailed what d-pad buttons to press and where to change them along the path to the cell. So I started doing that, got another to drop then tried again without closing the game completely and I couldn’t get one to drop. So then I went back to closing the game completely after a Stone drops, and I’ve been able to consistently get Rosetta Stones ever since. That is unless I fuck up my D-pad input along the path, or miss count, or accidentally hit 🔲 twice and end up accepting his challenge on 35th decline. Lol
Ff8 was the hardest rpg I’ve played because I was overleveled, still rocking earlier game weapons, missed like 5 gfs and no idea you could get them back in the last area, didn’t junction properly, and never played the card game. I need to give this game another go and fuck it the ass.

I had the same issue and was able to just barely beat the game, I didnt even fully understand the junctions and whats the actual effect of stuff like vit and spr. Then downloaded full on guide from gamefaqs and fucked the game in the ass.

Well did you fuck ff8 in the ass? As far as RPGs go, this game has quite a round and bouncy one.
It took awhile too learn but I got it down now. I remember just regularly playing ffviii years ago and I missed so much, You're never really told about certain things like leveling and whatnot, Grateful for the helpful online guides for things you might miss
I actually tried it once, and even though I got briefly stuck on a little wall at the bottom of the circle, it wound up working! Awesome video good sir!

Something worth noting is you may have to select "No" 140 times, and on the 141st time say yes in order to get the Rosetta Stone. From what I gather depending on where the Queen of Cards is during your stay in Prison it can change the RNG. I couldn't get it to work with the 54 "No" method, but it worked for me every time with the 140 "No" method.
Ah...my QOC is located in Galbadia and mine will not trigger on 54, I'll see if 141 works.
@@Vereid I'm fairly sure QOC was in Galbadia for me as well. Remember it's No 140 times then choose Yes. Let me know if it worked for you :)

The QoC being in a region *does* change the RNG- so yes, if your QoC is in Galbadia (or in ANY region where you are attempting to manipulate RNG in regards to Triple Triad) you have to use a different method. Luckily, since the game is so old, a google search will turn up a method the majority of the time.

It worked for me like a charm!! I got 3 Rosetta Stones in less than 10 minutes. You are right about "timing is everything". Once I got the hang of walking directly to the card player without glitching, I was able to get the stones, no problem. Thanks again for your tips!!!
I found this method wasn't as unforgiving as you are led to believe. You can scrape the wall maybe once but as long as it doesn't really slow you down that much you should make it in time.
In my gameplayer, it worked only with 55 games rejected and at 56 I accepted.

There is another little way to get it,Curse spike 100pcs-Dark Matter-Ultima or Stone...when u get to md lvl under balamb...where u have to pull the lever and there is a save point on the left...save and do not pull.after save exit game and go back in,trigger a fight,fight will be 3monsters,2blue and 1 flying,beat them(turn in cards) and after that i think its not random,you get tri face to fight.and its always him the second fight.beat him,save and repeat...8AP,Mug 1 Curse Spike(imaybe more i got always 1) and he drops Tri face card or Ultima weapon card which is also nice and u turn him into a card...its a grind yeah but at least min 2 spikes from it and AP...who has time and will go for it:)

There is another way to get the card player in the cell give you a Rosetta Stone. You'll need a timer, stop watch, or something else to keep track of past time. I just used my "smart"phone.
Here's how it works:
Inside the cells (the save room and the room with the card player) the time does not count against (or for) you when waiting to play the card player. All that matters is the time that passes outside the cells. So what I do is start the timer right when the screen starts to go black as I leave the cell, go up the stairs and then around past the two other screens. When I get to the screen with the cell that holds our card player, instead of holding up and then up-right, I do nothing but wait for the time to whittle down. At (or about to hit) a minute and ten seconds, I then hit up and then up-right to enter the cell. Deny the card player two times, win at cards, and boom! Rosetta Stone!
I am almost positive that there is quicker timing for this, but this works for me nearly 90% of the time. It truly cuts down your time by a minute per run, and plus it's pretty hard to lose count as opposed to denying 54 times.
For the love of all that's holy please make a video showing this because I've tried both ways for about a hour with zero success, I'm literally begging you please do a video showing this method!

If you keep getting a potion after playing the 55th card game with the guy and you perfected the run just try playing the 56th card game instead of the 55th. It worked wonders for me, I got 3 in a row 😊

I have just tried this on the Steam version of the game and it still works.
I got one stone after accidentally pausing 3 times on my run up for no more than a step or two, said no 53 times and yes on the 54th time and got one. My next attempt was a perfect run so I said no 54 times and yes on the 55th and got a potion. On my next attempt, I did another perfect run so tried saying no 56 times and yes on the 57th and got my second stone.
Tl;dr if you are like me and seem to be only getting potions after a perfect run and saying no 54 times, then start increasing the number of times you say no.
This is great! Just got 3 in a row - big tip though, you can get there too fast! I kept getting potions because I was running there too perfectly. As soon as I made my run less perfect it’s been working every time :)
Was farming the stones and my patching got faster as I kept running it and I couldn't figure out what was going on

I did a really good running till it reach the cell. Like you said, i tried 54 time refusing him and accept the 55th. Got the stone lol now i knew what was wrong last night.

Took a while farmed 6 stones. When running to floor eleven if you are delayed for even a second restart and try again you will get the hang off it the hardest part is challenging him 55 times take extra care to refuse 54 times nothing worse than losing count or accidentally accepting on the 51st challenge and having to start over

But you really only need 1 each though for 3 characters at a time
A bit more difficult getting the 2nd one as I think I got my runs too perfect as I finally got the 2nd one after a wee bump! So, may try for a 3rd one with 55 or 56 refusals if perfect run or if I get a tiny bump stick with 54! I’ll be happy with 3 so, everyone gets 4 abilities as there are 2 more: one at Esthar City on disc 3 & one at the castle on disc 4; Eden also has it already learnt after getting it on disc 3!
I gave up on this one, I tried 140, I tried 54, I tried everything around it, I used a timer to time exactly how long it took you to run it all, and STILL am not able to get it.
Just played this area yesterday on the remaster. I was farming for Elonyle cards, but after lots of plays he does give out the Rosetta Stone. I manage to get 2 stones just farming for Elonoly cards.
This is BRILIANT but also really s*** since I discovered your videoes a bit further along on disc 2…
I played him A LOT and got 3 Rosetta stones not knowing there was a pattern , but since I am a completionist and MUST have everything (if I use one I still need to have one in my item list) it was not enough

Hey all, I have a question about this that's kind of obscure. I've been trying the manip for hours, using 54 on imperfect pathing and 55 on perfect, but still not getting it. However, there's something different for me than every video - I have the orange Shumi monster following me around (tags along behind Zell, Selphie, Quistis) and I'm wondering if there's any way that's messed up my RNG. My Queen of Cards is definitely still in Balamb as I haven't lost a rare to her.
Also, does the speed at which you go through the 54 dialog boxes matter, or does speed only matter for reaching the room?

You can also receive a Rosetta Stone as a gift from 'Cheryl's Store' in Esthar later in the game.
Should I have abolished Random rule in advance before locking in the prison? Keep appearing Random rule and it is hard to win.

You confused me on this because you said do it 54 times them were going to do it another 53 times? So do we offer to play 53 times then play him on the 54th. Or do we do this 54 times then play him on the 55th?
Took me AGES to do this, it turned out, as I had fast mode on! Switched it off & kept getting fights! So, replayed the end of disc 1 to have Diablos learn Half Encounters & then, no encounters! Used no fast mode or any battle enhancements & used Diablos’ No Encounters instead! After savimg, exiting & reloading, started running straight off & with ALL that practice earlier I got it on the 3rd go: bit of adjustment from using fast mode all the time to get used to normal speed! Now that I’ve got one with this method I’ll try for another few & see how that goes? Using ANY of the remastered options means having to wait for the screen to load & you need to start moving right off the bat before all of the screens load! So, prepare to have Diablos learn No Encounters before hand & have it equipped before saving before going for this!
3 GFS do not naturally learn ability x4 you need to find 2 Rosetta stones, normally acquired in esthar and ultimecias castle

ok so I downloaded the remastered version 2 days ago on ps5.
The 54 method does not seem to work. QoC is still in Balamb for me.
However I played a few times (10 matches) and got 2 stones after that every 55th win earned a standard potion.
Mixed inbetween was a hp plus a holy stone and hi- pot2.
Saving inbetween is not possible (any more?). You cannot run down or up. A text pops up either telling me it dorsnt make sense going down or up now.
This game easy to spam level late game. Go the small island lot huge dragon malboro
Might be worthwhile to equip the Diablos no encounter before saving... One less thing to slow you down on the way there
you can just press L3+R3 on the black transition screens between rooms.

As somebody with OCD I delete carbuncle ability * 3 and Diablos ability * 3 and give them both ability * 4

I was having trouble due to the rules. The guy did ask to me to change rules and I always ended with hi potion or similar. Then I changed the rules with the guy who change your war plan, saved and hard reset. Worked like a charm for 3 time Also with some little errors on my way.

I Went For 7 Rosetta Stones For Each Character(1 To Keep In My Item Inventory). They Are Essential To Having Auto-Protect, Auto-Shell, And Auto-Haste On Everyone.
Oh, That Green Guy Gives Various Items. Some I Got Included: Hi-Potion+(Have Never Used It I'm Guessing It's An Upgrade Of Hi-Potions), Potion(Most Common), And HP Up. I Think HP Up Is A ONE-TIME Though, Not Sure.
how do i get more than one rosseta stone? do i need to cancel 54 times for each?
I always opted for the 2 free stones you get ( The one in ultimacias castle and Esthar shop, during the Lunatic Pandora event) Pretty sure Bahamut comes with it also. 3 was enough for me 😀

Silver Mails Can Be Dropped By LV 20+ Snow Lions And You Need 10 Silver Mails For 1 Gold Armor(Maybe It's Different In The Remaster?). I Haven't Played The Remaster I Only Played The Original PSX Version. The Silver Mails Can Be Dropped By LV 20+ Snow Lions In The Snow Forests In The Trabia-Bika Snowfield, Though.

I keep getting potions, no matter what I do. I've done perfect runs every time, counted to 53, 54, 55, 56, but nothing. Btw my queen of cards is in balamb and I play the old steam version (in spanish), but every trick you've shown in past videos has worked perfectly, though this 1 hasn't. Pls help 🙏🏻
Edit: It finally worked out, but I had to follow such specific path, that if I failed or delayed even in the slightless, it wouldn't work. (54 times method)

Esthar Shop (Disc 3) as a 'gift' and Ultimecia's Castle (Disc 4).
Apparently there was said to be a way that would take far less effort with the rejections for the card game on here: gamefaqs.gamespot.com/boards/197343-final-fantasy-viii/65982921
For that method only 2 rejections would be needed, however I haven't checked myself though, with whether it works or not..

The Queen of Cards in the Daling(. And I wanted to say no 140 times. But accidentally clicked on the 27th and got the rosetta stone).Luck. I've played about 200+ times before :-(
If this is not working get all the itens on the lower levels and the battle metter upgrade, then try again

After a day and a half of trying (Remaster on iOS/iPhone) with no luck, I found your comment and gave it one last ditch effort after clearing out the bottom levels of treasures/battle meter. Got the Rosetta Stone on my first try after, and pretty regularly following (six, with two misfires). Thank goodness for your advice, I thought I was going insane!

I have tried this so many times over the years and have never been able to do it. I only ever get a Potion.

U should not start the queen of card side quest , just let her stay in balamb so u will only say no for 54 times. From balamb she will move to delling or dollet, if she stay in delling, u must say no 140 time.
and here is the process
1. From the save from lv 10 go as fast as u can to the same room in lv 11.
2. Say no 54 time, yes in the 55th time, win the game. If u accidental start the queen of card quest, before the final fight, go to galbadia hotel and check if she is in the hotel or not, if she there, say no 140 times.
Important note... Do not use x3 or u will receive a lot of poisons :).

You only need 1 Rosetta. You get another one on Esthar and bahamout have the ability unlock.
I usually get 10 doing this just in case

In case there are anyone who did the challenge 54 times and played the card game with him on the 55th try and failed to get the rosetta stone, you can try challenging 55 times and played the card game on the 56th try! I get the rosetta stone that way.

I actually got it most on 53 no's.
All this rng manipulation is crazy. I got 3 Rosetta stones from this guy just playing normally with no resets or anything.
Not to mention rng manipulation for screwing Triple Triad rules
Imagine at that point Galbadia rules is Random and Direct.

By refining 100 Cursed Spikes into Shaman Stone. However, your Siren (GF) must be level 100 in order to do so.
You can farm them in Deep Research Center. Easily by having Zell force open the door for fixed encounters. Make sure someone has Mug equipped.

Oof I'm doing it the hard way with curse spikes. Each 100 is about an hour using the 3x speed.

1 per chr is plenty. Bahamut has Abilty x 4 allready and you can get 1 from Esthar and 1 from final dungeon. So basicly you need 3... And in Deep Sea Reserch Center you can mug Curse spikes... 100 to Dark Matter via Tool-Rf (needs level 100 Siren GF) you can turn those in to 100 Ultimas, Luck-J scrolls or Shaman Stones (and teach Quistis blue magic Shockwave Pulsar). And Angelo Search yields Hungry Cookpot (teaches Devour) what you can turn in to Shaman Stone and that to Rosetta Stone...

I'd say get one for each of your GFs that has Auto Haste and you should be good, that what I'll do since I farmed so much already and I'm probably not in the mood to do much more at this point.

This method is dependent on where the Queen of Cards is currently located.
This method will work is she is NOT located in Deling City. However, if she IS in Deling City, then you need to decline his offer of cards 140 times and play on the 141st.
Queen of cards is in Balamb (Never moved her yet) and after 100+ attempts with no mistakes I get potions as a reward regardless of how many declines I do, this trick is bullshit and doesnt work or at least not consistently enough to be worth the effort.
Edit: well I guess I have to eat my words now, finally got 3 in a row after 1000 attempts. So it does still work it just takes 3 days of rng :(
My problem is, when I walked up to him and chose to play card, he didn't say "200 gil per game" immediately. Instead, he went on with the card rules thingy, only then asked "200 gil per game"
After a few rejections, only then he went straight to "200 gil per game" without mumbling on the card rules.
So in my case, how does it work?

keep asking him to play until he no longer brings up other rules then save and come back to him, this also works for the lady in Galbaldia with high level cards who`s in the room opposite the ice rink

I tried this method, I can never get the timing right. There is supposed to be a method where you wait until 1 minute 9 seconds and enter, deny the guy twice and then he gives you the Rosetta Stone on the win but I keep getting potions. He's a scammer, don't go for it. I don't care about Rosetta. I just want to get to 30% trophy completion because it's midnight and I have to walk a mile with my parents when I wake up. X(
Uggggghhhhh I can't get this to work after the first few times I got Rosetta stones. I do a run exactly like my first two which resulted in stones, but now I'm just getting potions.

Ive been attempting this for hours and it dosnt work, I tried challenging on the 52, 53, 54, 56, 57, 58th. I've done a few hundred attempts and I dont know what I'm doing wrong
you have to be running as soon have the save loads. Hold down before the save loads. Then hold left on the black screen when you exit the cell and so on. don't use x3 speed!. But you can use x3 speed in the cell where the card player is.
I remember watching a tutorial on this a while back and the uploader noted that the RNG doesn't move when you're inside the starting cell with the save point or the cell with the card player. The RNG actually starts right when you leave the cell. Once you make it to the end of the corridor where the card player is you don't have to challenge him instantly. Just a noteworthy thing to know.
