I appreciate these videos but it would make more sense to show where you're at on screen as you're explaining the parts about holding certain directions on the analogue stick. I know you run through the process visually in the video where you aren't hitting walls and such, but by the time you are explaining the necessary analogue stick steps you've already reached the card player and are constantly doing the part where you talk and say "no" over and over. Might be a better visual representation to pause the footage while you're explaining where you need to be facing on each part of the floor you're on to match where you're at on the audio explanation. Just a suggestion but regardless I really love your videos about the ff games, it brings me back to when I played these as a teenager when they came out and trying to find the strategies for maximum efficiency, it would have been amazing to have things like youtube back then!
i did originally create the video like that with screenshots on each screen as i describing the directions. however it felt more confusing (weird i know) with that sort of layout, hence i decided to go with 3 unedited clean runs so people could see exactly what i was doing/how i was doing the route.
I do completely agree with your sentiment on having the video match what im talking about at the same time, given how short the trip is though to me personally atleast it made more sense/i thought it was more helpful this way if that makes sense? and because of how quick the route is, going the "unedited" way i simply would not be able to describe it fast enough and still be coherent.

@@Primalliquid92 He's talking about the visual representations that streamers will have on their screens which will, in real time, display what inputs a player is pressing at a given time. This would allow us to visually see exactly where you were placing your control stick for movement as you move through the level.

Thank you for this guide. I was having trouble but with your in depth explanation about how it was timed with the movement made me able to do it every time once I got the hang of it. I didn't have Enc-None though. On the loading screen from the cell to the corridor you can put the booster on and it works a treat! Also the 64 cancels still works for the HP UP too!

I'm playing Remastered on iOS (iPhone). I struggled with getting this to work too. I more or less followed the D-pad instructions (although I used the analog stick setting, which isn't the best with a touch screen), declined to play 54 times, then played on the 55th. I finally got a Rosetta Stone!
Analog stick movement is the exact same. It's still only an 8-way directional movement game. The analog stick doesn't even do much apart from give you the ability to walk and run, but it doesn't do that on the HD version.

It is troubling but I just exit as soon as I snagged anything along the way. Takes practice, like a speed run. First time I got to the door, without snags, it worked.
Don't even mess with trying to adjust the game refusal counter to make up for snags, just exit and try again.
Then my next 3 perfect runs yield a potion. Im with you. Guess I'll settle for one, lol.

can confirm that you can use the no encounter booster if you time it right during the load screen between 1st and 2nd screens

Works! Did the 140 version due to qoc location and gpt a rosetga stone. Accidentally hit an inner wall while running up but no problem. Also, I'm on the remake and used 3x speed in the room withe the player and won 7x3 (not 6x4 like the video)

Worked first time, thanks! I'm playing the 2013 version (not remastered) and it was easy to do once I figured out the d-pad controls. I needed a bit of practice with the controls, so going down to Level 1 and back up again finally came in handy! I still bumped into a wall very briefly but that made no difference in the end.

I was trying to get the stone for over than a week, i saw your video, i got it after around 20 times, but once I learned to do it, they came out one after the other, I even set speed x3 once inside the room and it also worked perfectly.
Im usig XBOX with Remasted version (this method is working perfectly, you just have to learn how to walk without touch any wall and completely straight)
Don't know if you'd see this after 3 years, but I think I love you. Finally had a good run and it was awesome.

The conditions in which it does and doesn’t work seems to be extremely specific. OP seems to not know exactly who should succeed and who shouldn’t based on their version of the game

I feel like I am a year or two too late for this remaster lol but anyways, I finally got it to work after getting the (no encounter) GF ability w/ Diablos. I only had the half encounter and put it on. For WHATEVER reason idk I tried every other thing people have said in the comments etc. and it just wasnt working for me. I was about too give up, until I saw a comment mentioning the (no encounter) ability. IDK why it worked for me but it worked and I got 3 rosetta stones back to back. Keep in mind ive been trying to do this for 3 days 4 hours at a time. I also had to pause once I was challenging the guy in the room and was on 30- challenges. Came back maybe 10 min later- finished asking, won and boom. Rosetta stone. Crazy how many cool twists and turns you can do in this game. Its amazing. Great Job.

After the first couple of runs I ended up getting only potions. My movement was frame perfect after sometime so I tried declining 55 matches instead of 54 to advance the RNG one more time and accept battle on match 56 and I've only gotten Rosetta stones since then. So, if you got the movement down and only get potions, try declining 55 times.

@@Chronux It's not "blatantly wrong" you can count the number of time he says 'No' in the video, it's 54 and 'Yes' on the 55th, clearly something else is at play for you if said movement truly is perfect.
Yeap, did it 54 no then played the 55th and got potions, did it next run saying no 55 times and auing 56th and got the rosetta stone.

Took some practice, but I am getting it sometimes. Dpad probably helps if you have the choice. The goal is to get there the fastest in case that was not made clear (it's not about following button combinations). Funny enough, the hardest part for me was not accidentally starting a card match early before number 55 lol.

I keep getting potions, QoC is in Dollet. I’m not clipping anything on my run, can somebody please help? I’ve tried accepting the challenge on the 53rd time and the 55th nothing but potions.
Same than you, I did a first try not smoothy at all (used no counter during stairs loadscreen) and I got the stone, but after that, only potions…
This is to anybody struggling with this:
I must have tried about 25-30 times w/ no luck, challenging him to anywhere from 50 to 59 times. I was consistently smooth in the hallways on the way to the cell, just like primal in the video. But still no luck. Here's what you do; set a stopwatch timer on your phone for 21 seconds. You start it when you leave your cell on floor 10 w/ the save point. Then run up to floor 11, and before you get to the guys cell, stop for a second, then run in. The timer should go off during the black screen when you enter his cell. Then challenge him 55 times, accepting on the 55th attempt. This works fairly reliably for me, I think it varies with load times between areas, but I wss getting yo the cell faster than primal, which is why I couldn't get one. Hope this helps!
I'm on disc 4 now, completely gave up on even trying a few potions. Maybe I will try this next time.
Can someone please tell me which GFs should I give the rosetta stones to?
I tried over 20 times failing before I figured out that the movement is critical to the RNG. It's easier if you use the d-pad rather than the analog stick. Also if you're on Remastered, don't use the 3x booster as it's easier to not hit any walls when the game is regular speed. If you do hit any walls or deviate from the quickest path to the room, just reset and start over. Once I got the hang of it, I've done it 20 times and hit Rosetta Stones on each try. any idea why the npc just keeps telling me its 200 gil per game and it wont actually let me start a game? same on the floor below with the 300 gil game

I. Need. Help. I did this the first time and I got the stone.. After that i have NO luck. I tried slowing down and nothing. Did it smoothly with the analog and D pad and nothing. Tried declining 53 times and accepted on 54, 55 times, accepted on 56. Idk what to do...
did you save the game and then completely close the game after you won your first one? remember you need to reset the RNG counter each time
It actually works. Don't listen to all the weird explaining about directional buttons. Just press your directional button in the direction you know you need to move during the load screen. This will be second nature after a few attempts. Run as fast as you can from the save point to the card player's room. At that point I turned on x3 speed and blasted through 54 no's and played him on 55. It doesn't work every single time, but I got three in probably 15 attempts. You can never see where the rng is based on the timing, but it so happens that it lines up in about the time it takes for you to run as fast as you can from the save to the room. 54 no's and play on 55. It'll hit. Now I have two of my characters that can't even use 4 abilities because they don't have enough. I'm on Steam remastered version and I did use the joystick. Good luck. Don't give up. It'll hit.

I was about to give up after about 20 times getting only potions but later read that I am close and should try less than 54 declines. But after a few tries I found out that for me it is 56 declines (probably I run a bit faster than on this video, not slower) and I got 3 stones almost in a row. Even got the 4th one on the next try just because I can :D

Took 3 goes to get it, basically you cannot hit the wall on the way round, taking the quickest route from reset, floor 10. I had dollets rules so I had to get rid of them before it would work as the 'unfamiliar rules' dialogue ruins the RNG manipulation. 55th game after and works everytime.
I used the no encounter booster. 3 tries. 3 rosetta stones.

@@Primalliquid92 I just clicked it on before I left the room with the save, then ran the route the same way I have been since the PS1 era. Got 3 stones with no issues other than being a lil rusty on running the path smooth.

Got it with the encounter boost on and also without it but you have to click it on as you’re leaving the screens so you don’t lose a step. One thing that kept happening to me is i would get an enemy encounter as soon as i got in front of the card guy to talk. Running from the battle didn’t affect the RNG and using the x3 boost for talking 54 times worked fine. I kept resetting when i kept getting the encounter thinking it was ruined but it kept giving me the encounter so I just went with it and it worked anyways.
Back doing this manipulation again but this time for the Platinum Trophy. The last time I did it on the Switch version.
If you’re trying to do this manipulation and you’re carrying a different regions ruleset with you then you’ll have to get Dollet’s rules back again. Just keep refusing to mix rules and once he stops asking to mix go back and save on the 10th floor and try the manipulation from the video. Carrying different rules messes with the RNG regardless of how perfect your movement is or how many times you talk to him.
Your description in the audio doesn't match what the video shows, I don't know which of the two I should follow...

If the RNG is based entirely on time, might it be safer to start playing cards with the guy after 50 or so "no" answers, then play four or five games and get the Rosetta Stone? Better than accidentally missing it. Or does a small difference in time completely throw off the RNG?
no card games also advance the RNG along with card placements, so it would mess it up. theres also the difference in RNG steps between starting a game and canceling a game. once you're actually inside the room with him RNG is basicly locked at that point so as long as your fast enough getting to room your 99% going to be fine

50-60 tries is pretty decent considering its a 1 in 256 chance of being rewarded haha

Tried a 100x, was convinced it wouldn't work with boosters etc... it does work with the no encounter booster. It all comes down to the timing of it like he said, basically do not clip any walls and on the last screen hold directly up to slide right in the door. It's a feeling thing just keep trying and you'll get it.

@@Primalliquid92 Lmao apologies, not literally 100x, just enough to where I thought it wasnt possible because of the boosters. I actually chose to ignore Diabolos' enc-half/none and use the booster to put the AP elsewhere and thought I was screwed out of Rosetta stones X(
This works in 2020!!! Im playing on xbox one
Before you try / give up remember this:
(1) You can refine Rosetta Stones once you have the GF Eden. Just make Dark matter with 100 cursed spikes, easy to farm, convert into dark matter > shaman stone > Rosetta stone.
(2) Playing normally with 100k Gil, you'll probably get 2+ Rosetta Stones playing cards in prison. But that's between 1 hour to 6+ hours of your lifefor RNG.
I find having the card rule 'diff' makes it easier to win Rosetta Stones in prison, but could have been just luck. But always take tri-face as the card reward. And you'll passively have enough materials to craft a Rosetta stone.
Plus, you only need two Rosetta stones in the game, as one GF already has 4x ability?
I have been trying to do this trick for a two hours and I cannot get it to work. I tried challenging him 52 times, 53 times, 54 times, 55 times and 140 times. I am lighting fast. I am not snagging on a single wall. I played a lot of games with him before trying this strategy. Is it possible to permanently ruin the RNG for this trick on a save file? Maybe it doesn't work on the Switch version of the remaster.
Don't give up. I'm there with you. I've been trying for about 3 hours and I managed to finally get one stone. I got the run down to a t. The only problem I'm having is just with the count. I don't know if I'm under or over. It's driving me insane
I knew this from back in the day but forgot about it until I gotto the prison... and I don't have Encounter None learned. D'oh!
you can still learn it in the prison, theres random battles there
@@Primalliquid92 Yeah, but most of them are 3AP per battle. Which means 34 random battles. I only had to flee/reload twice on my way to 6 Rosetta Stones. It was more that I was annoyed with myself for forgetting than any real inconvenience.

somebody mentioned not long ago they were having the same problem because they were doing it TO fast, try slowing down a little and see if that helps.

i dont really know what to tell you then im afraid, this is a well known RNG manipulation that people having been using for the last 10+ years
For those who are having trouble with this on Remaster:
I tried a good two or three dozen times with no luck. I don't have enc-none and I didn't have the no encounter boost on. The first couple of times I didn't realize I had no encounter boost off because I wasn't getting into any encounters - at all, not a single one. I thought enc-none had to be on so you don't get into any battles, which wastes time, making it impossible to get to the card player in time and since I wasn't getting into any battles I just left it off thinking it might screw with it (as the video suggests it does). I perfected the moves and now do it flawlessly every time, but it still would only give me a potion. Just for kicks, I decided to turn on no encounters boost - and voila. Rosetta Stone every time.
So contrary to what the video says, this not only works with no encounter boost on, but some form of no encounter seemingly HAS to be on for this to work.
while im not sure what is exactly going on in this situation the boosters/ENC None dont actually impact the RNG table so having it on or off should actually make any difference aslong as you dont get into any random battles. theres also quite a few comments of people succeding without enc none on. Maybe you were a second to quick/slow which had you in a different position but then once you got it you sub consiosly fixed your run?
How if queen of card still in balamb garden,I mean,I usually do quest of card in disc 3(mini mog to obtain kiros card)can I get Rosetta Stone?i do it properly but I always have potion remedy hi-pot+ or eye drop

all you need are 2 stones. cuz i think one GF already comes with ability x 4. this is how i did it. got the GF with abilityx4, converted 100 curse spikes into shaman stone and then i made that into a rosetta stone. then i got one rosetta stone from esthar. and then you can get one from Ultimecia's castle. but getting them over and over again is pointless. you just need 2. i only put them on two gfs and that's it. whenever it's time to switch characters, i just junction everything over to the characters i need to level and all the gfs that are on the other ones.

kinda makes you wonder what the R in RNG stands for.
the good thing about old games like these is its a small RNG table and people have already figured out exactly how it works for these all important items, just like how FF12 has dedicated manipulations for like half of the game, or manipulating the step counter for FF speedruns. Granted RNG in an actual new title will be god knows how much harder to figure out just due to the sheer size of the table.
Its not always random because you'll have to start at some point and determining where the start is crucial to things like this.
Actually most rng works by moving through elements of a predetermined table. If you can find the table and the algorithm, it is not random anymore.

Id rather this than having to deal with true RNG though. Rng is just an unhealthy mechanic that takes 0 skill while achieving decent reward

It took me an hour and a fucking half to get it right the fire time, then I got it right the next two times, well technically it was 3 tries after that but I got a mob encounter for the first time in that hour and a half

This sounds very convoluted and you don’t even find out if you did it wrong until 55 or 141 tries. I feel like it would just be easier to play him naturally at that point
it sounds that way yea but once you start doing it you'll see just how simple it is, and this method gets you a stone every 3-4 minutes. playing him naturally he has a 1 in 256 chance of giving the stone as a reward so good luck getting 3 quickly with those odds

Unfortunately I am unable to figure it out. Queen of Cards quest never started with me so far as I know she's still in Balamb or whatever that first town is. Not sure if that is affecting it. I don't know the video is hard to understand but my free time is ever dwindling these days so I'm going to have to just pass on the Rosetta stone altogether.

you can get them but they're rare as hell, you're best (and by far the fastest option) to get 100 of them is this card method. if you're already past this though then your flat out of luck and just have to rely on pure rng with angelo search

If you're doing the run well and only obtain the potion you may have the same problem than me, I found the solution : YOU'RE DOING IT TOO FAST !
I explain : On my first try, I didn't know the run so it was not that smooth, but still, after 54 asks, and played the 55th one, I got the stone, HURRAY !
But then, I fckin got ONLY POTIONS ! Did I broke my game ? I thought. But I was doing it faster than before ! So why ???
And that was my problem, if, like me, when you ask the guy X times to play cards you "preshot" the lower D pad and close too fast thinking the fastest you'll speak, the fastest get the stones, YOU'RE WRONG !
I found the solution when looking back at the video seeing @Primalliquid doing it, actually he closes the chat box at a regular speed, even "waiting" before closing.
So don't spam buttons to ask the guy to play cards, just relax and do it cool, it works for me !
I had the same problem. I got all wild trying to get through everything just right and once I just called down and quit spamming the guy I got my stones.
omg thank you!!! I was going too fast as well. Can confirm that 54 denials worked for me so long as I wasn't a maniac on spamming the man with card requests

I can replicate the movement, and all I end up getting are holy stones. The Queen is in Galbadia so I don't know if that's screwing with the tables. I've tried to lower or increase the amount of declines but no luck. Playing the PS1 version.
yes, the queen messes with the tables. so with her being in galbadia for you im afraid its impossible to use this method. i do believe there is another strat for when shes there but im afraid i dont know what it is.
@@Primalliquid92 I've resigned myself to farming tri-faces and elnoyles from him, if I manage to get even 1 stone I'm just gonna give up on the method. The guide that I'm following doesn't even mention any possibilities of manipulation here.

Omg 😱 i got my first one doing exactly what you say... I thought it would not work for this one because I’m playing in remote and I got a lag during the 50th « no »... I wasn’t sure if the number was correct. I used the booster for no accounters between 1st and 2nd screen and used the dpad not the analog stick
I got second one this morning... can’t get the third... problem is you can’t know if you did it wrong until the potion and can’t know why
It is really easy, if you don't use your analog stick. I got my 3 Rosetta Stones.

I found it’s challenging for the first time, but once you got the correct pace then it’s easy to farm.
One note, if the Queen is in Balamb, then decline for 44 times. My pace is not very clean and effective from Floor 10 to 11 but still can farm enough 6 Rosseta Stones. 😊

@@alexacool6181 idk, but trying to get this killed my drive for this current playthrough lol in a week or 2 I'm sure I'll go back and just move on and enjoy the game since can get 4x ability for 3 people eventually much later. And having 4x ability now really isn't intregal to a playthrough where I'm just trying to do everything in general, not min/max or superstat anyone in particular.

then you were doing it wrong. not only have i showed here it works, people in the comments have confirmed it works and people on Gamefaqs have confirmed it works. this is a method that has been used on the ps1 version of the game for the past 10 years.

He asks to mix rules for the first 5 times then just asks to play cards, does this have any effect? Very frustrating as I know Im doing it correctly but something is wrong. Can someone please help?
@@Rickai85 mixing has an effect it pushes the RNG by 2 instead of just 1 thats why its not working for you. your RNG counter is going to high and your missing the correct stop point. count how many times he asks to mix (if he asks 5 times then challenge him 49 times ect) just remove the amount of mixes from the total stop point.
@@Primalliquid92 I fixed it!! I went to the guy on the 5th floor and mixed the rules. So when I challenged the guy on the 11th floor, he just straight up asks to play. 7 Rosetta Stones and a happy man haha!

You can easily boost characters a little later by much easier skills of guardians. So why would you even slow your progress down at the prison in order to waste time on something that looks extremly tedious, dull and like an exploit. Who would do & use such crap?
You can't get abilityx4 without rosetta stones (or that one GF that comes with it), and you can't make the most of those levelling abilities without abilityx4.
@@davidwilson6577 Technically you only need one Abilityx4 to max your stats, it just will make the grinding process take longer, since only one character will level up at a time

@@davidwilson6577 just get Eden, he brings the ability to eat certain monsters to boost your stats ... Easy enough. No awkward clicking and exploiting mechanics needed.
