Now THIS is awesome! By making use of this bug in Final Fantasy 8 Remastered we can actually farm Luck-J scrolls! This can be done from disk 2 once we have access to the Centra Ruins. We have to carefully use the timer on the Odin fight, but honestly, its really easy. This is also a great method to get Triple magic especially if you are playing a low level game and not wanting to recruit Odin until disk 4. I wish I had done this on disk 2!

The many timed sequences in FF8 still stress me out to this day, even though they always give you more than enough time.
Not in the missile base. Also, I got pretty close to 0 in Odin's place. Getting this type of "try again" option increases the time limit and I think they already used it once or twice before the video.
I thought i knew everything about every FF, but fuzzfinger proves me wrong every time

As you said at the end one of the GFs gets Luck-J so you only need 40 mins to get 3 active party members with luck stat. Agree its a great method

Food for thought. If timing is awkward, would a GF work? Long animation before any damage dealt.
You can speed up this process by holding Square when you enter the ruins after the first farm
if anyone knows its fuzz for sure. if you follow his series on this remaster you will be all set.
I gave up as I just couldn’t get it to work a 2nd time! But, getting 2 at this early stage in the game is MORE than I’ve EVER gotten before! So, thanks for that! I don’t know if it’ll ever work again though as I think I got lucky with it working once! That slight hesitation when timer hits zero is SO hard to gage right as once odin’s attack comes up it’s too late & it’s game over but, before it comes up CAN be too soon & you kill him! On iOS at level 17 for my 3 party members Odin is level 14 with just over 5500 HP & I got him down to about 900 to 69 before Squall’s renkozen. So, with a low level game 1 Luck-J scroll IS possible! My usual high level games, in the past, from levels 60 to even higher 80, with fast mode speeding up battles SO much, I just could not mug him at all without killing him first!

After replaying the game to NOT get Odin until disc 4 this doesn’t work at all now! Even waiting until the timer hits zero before renkozuken odin is killed. My iPad had updated to iOS 15.5 from 15.4.5 so, maybe the bug had been fixed so, to get a Luck-J scroll at all is to kill Odin?
just in case anyone else is struggling, it did work on iOS. Started squal lb at 5 seconds. Couldnt get teleport to work when entering the ruins.
Finally managed to pull it off (PS4 Remaster).
After failed attempts at 5 and 4 seconds i had Squall start this Renzo at 3 seconds left, did NOT trigger the Gunblade and Odin did not join.
This encounter is a good opportunity to draw Death and Triple as well as get a nice card, given the ample time limit you don't even need to rush.
Anyone trying this, just make sure to check Odin's HP and leave him some (around 800 for me=2 hits) before starting the Limit.
You need to have Squall hit the boss before 0 seconds occurs. If you hit the boss after 0 seconds occurs then it will fail as the HP won't be logged as depleted even if you are locked in a limit break animation.
@@WardenOfTerra If you read the comment carefully, it says that 5 and 4 seconds on the timer weren't close enough (=too long).
While starting Squall's limit at 1 less second did the trick.
@@WardenOfTerrathat can't be true because I've acquired the luck-j scroll multiple times with Quistis using Shockwave Pulsar to finish him, and the attack is super delayed.
Hey, I tried this with my lvl 7 squall, does the first hit of limit has to KO? Because Odin just died and didn't kick me out afterwards..
still works, tried today and made it twice but for some reason it doesn’t always work

BTW, pausing the game doesn't stop the timer and if the timer hits 0 while paused, the fight continues until you finish Odin.
I've gotten the trick to work using pause during a normal attack (no limit break). But I have not found a reliable way to get it to work every time.
but this will take how many minutes? This is good if you want to farm multiple luck-j scrolls at early game but I suggest If you'll farm luck-j scrolls for luck up, do the tri-face fixed encounter.
So far only can get it done once. Any tips what I'm doing wrong after first attempt on consecutive attempts.
Better idea: Get Forbid Med Ref, farm out Luck-J Scroll, Ref to Luck Up.
It's not a better idea. To get Forbid Med Ref you'd need Eden which means defeating Ultima Weapon on Disc 3 or waiting 'till Disc 4, both of which have their downsides. This solution - if it can be figured out consistently - makes farming luck a *lot* more feasible and as early as Disc 2.

BTW what is the gunbladr enhancement you have? On my remaster there is only x3 speed and a fist?
On the xbox or ps L3 is Speed R3 is fist aka constant max health and limit break. And L3 and R3 is the no encounter hope this helps.
Could someone please clarify for me if using the warp to get to Odin will still allow me to be ejected and retain the item and card? Or does the Cetra teleport somehow stop it from triggering, The teleport puts your clock at 1:30m plenty of time honestly especially for my low level run. I just havent been able to pull it off wondering if i should do the 20 minute wait.
I done it once so far, and have been warping and unsuccessful everytime, many combinations of time limit breaks.. I've even ran completely out of time and tried it lol, Zantetsuken seems to trigger several seconds after 0 idk why. I'm about to take my 1 luck-j scroll and move on, but I really want another! Maybe the warp by holding □ is somehow effing this up? But there's dialog for this exact thing to happen! I wish someone would make known like a 90%+ success rate method.. maybe I'll try the 20 minute method and eff off for awhile and see if it helps. If I get like 2 in a row then I'll definitely have to share what I did.
Has the bug been fixed? I'M playing Remastered and did exactly as you said in the video, but it didn't work.

This is not working after 7 attempts. Started at 3 seconds and 4 seconds, alternating back and forth. It counted as me having completed the battle. Not sure how you are getting it to work.

Does this only work on remastered version? I am playing the original ps1 version and have been trying to do this for two days straight and can’t get it to work! I start the animation before time runs out and drop his h.p. To 0 after timer hits 0 so idk why it won’t work. Help!

Old PS1 knowledge from the top of my head. 100 curse spikes = Dark Matter = Luck Junction scroll = 1 Luck up.
Curse spikes come from Malboros (mug or win if lucky) or from Tri-Faces. It's known that Island Closest to ___ (Eastern one) you can fight these two. You can also go do the set fights in the Deep Sea Research Facility with Ultima Weapon alive if you want to farm them. Ultima Weapon is only really worth a card because you can draw Eden GF from Tiamat.
Sphinxaura? It's the first boss you can fight in Ultimecia's castle. All castle bosses you can choose to run away from unlike other boss fights. It has a fun ability where it summons Tri-Face monsters in a match. You get the idea?
Wait, so fighting Ultima Weapon is basically pointless? That is pretty funny. Although, getting Eden early makes it possible to raise the GF faster and Lunatic Pandora has some of the toughest fights in the game. And with Sphinxaura, it does not only spawn tri-face. I always encountered Jelleye when I fought it.
You can also get the Eden and Odin cards from the CC group aboard Ragnarok on Disc 4, even if you didn’t get them from Ultima Weapon and Odin, respectively, the first time. There’s little reason to fight Ultima Weapon, since the items you can win are the Three Stars and Ultima Stones. You can get Three Stars from the Squall card and Ultima Stones (and Ultima magic) through various refinement methods.
If you press the square button upon entering the Centra ruins you are immediately teleported to Odin's room with only 1:30 of time left. Not sure if the trick will still work that way. Be careful not to do it before having activated the stairs or there won't be a way of leaving the ruins.
It's a fake timer though. When it reaches 0, nothing happens. So the trick can't work. Just tried 5 times before I let the timer run out completely and it just stays at 0 while the battle continues.

I read a guide tho saying if you go activate the stairs that it would work then with the tely. I doubt that though.
@@rontia I've activated the stairs. I think if you don't, the only difference is that you can't leave after killing Odin.
Playing android version rn, timer is not fake, as it reaches 0 I get slahed. But can't get this trick to work tho. Dunno if it doesn't work on mobile, or timer somehow messes with it

I'm pretty sure there's only a few codes it cycles through lol I did this 3 times and 2 times I got the same codes(98939) and 1 time I got the code he got.
Great video, well explained for the most part. I think that to improve this, you could show Odin's card getting mod at the beggining then getting it again. This would help us completionists to consider this as a valid strategy without having to wait all the way until the end of disc 3 / disc 4 for the Queen of cards.
So are you saying that it is possible to get more than one Odin card? Or is it that once you failed but received the card you refine it and then get it again?
@@kirkmusprime2542 Sorry for the late reply. It's a known fact that any card that you refine, you're able to win from the queen of cards (however you have to complete the queen of cards quest, which is a major pain to complete), a light version of this is the ability to do the same only with the cards of the card club members once you obtain the Ragnarok airship (again, you have to complete the card club quest as well).
So to answer your question you can not obtain more than one unique card, but you can obtain one card, refine it, and then obtain another.

Tried a few times. He’s lvl 10 so only has 4K hp. Failed twice now trying a 3rd. I tried using Ren at 3 seconds. It just completed both times.

On the psx using emulator: I've tried both with Squall's and Zell's limit breaks at various seconds remaining and with Odin's HP at various (but still low) amounts, to no avail. I can't get it to work. I'm guessing it's a remaster-exclusive glitch but I'd love to be proven wrong.
After 4 failed attamps I think I'll give this one a miss...... I'm sure it works some of the time though. Love this ff8 content mate, keep it up 👌
I did it the first attempt, i wanted more luck-j's but i couldn't repeat it again several times after. i'm now on my last try, i'm giving up after this, but i got it right once

@@TheBadtaste1 - The entire game is based off of frame timing. You need to know the frame timing of when to attack.

Not true. I card-modded the Odin card into 100 dead spirits (mostly useless) and got it back on a subsequent successful attempt farming a luck-j scroll.
I'm playing the remaster on Switch.
First off! Having always played a high level game I never managed to mug even 1 luck-j scroll before I killed him with just 1 or 2 hits! Now, playing a low level game I managed to mugg the scroll BUT, had SUCH A HARD TIME getting the extremely small window of killing odin with renzoken after it hits zero but, before odin killed me & game over! I tried 3 seconds as suggested here & killed him, tried 2 seconds left & killed him, same again with 1 second! So, tried as soon as it hit zero & pulled it off the first time! Still have managed a 2nd time, though, as I either get killed or I kill him with or without fast mode on! Will keep trying & IF I can’t manage it aI’ll kill him for a 2nd scroll instead of having 3 for all my party! If you get killed the scroll I mug gets lost too as the game is overa! Waiting 20 minutes for each try is SO TEDIOUS!!!
in my time you can't use the limitbreaks without having your hp yellow or u have aura casted on you, so me seeing that you can use limitbreaks with 9999 hp and without aura is both fascinating and intriguing
well what's the point of casting aura if you can always use ur limit break? does this makes aura just for junctioning now? :(

Hmm...I'm curious if triple-casting flare would work. So you do it without using the remaster "cheats." I'm gonna have to try this.
Edit: Yup! Can confirm, it works with triple flare, and I think it's actually much easier with it. The animation is longer. Did it at 4 seconds and it hadn't even finished the first flare when the clock ran out.

So I was trying to get the Sophie card and I forgot to change the rules. Do you know how to change the rules. I forgot to do it at the Garden. I wasn't able to get Plus bet abolished but I have open random and I think one. I just need to know if there's a way to abolish the rest of them. If you know away thank you. And it just hit me I'll let you know the rules I'm going by open random element one. I can get element abolished but I can't get the random I need to get that random.
Queen of cards can change rules for about 30,000 gil..otherwise jiat card Mod all cards except for main 5. Then it wont matter what rules r in effect

@@thredcomet48 wow, right on! Im terrible with most the card rules..i hate same, plus and random. Only way im good with cards is to get rid of all but my seifer, odin, minotaur,ifrit and diablos cards. Those are the only 5 i use. Congrats on getting those cards!
@@tasselhoff1293 the only rules she can change are the rules that aren't set there. The Queen of card CAN'T abolish rules. You can only buy the rules. Also depending on where the Queen of card is located, she can change the trade rule for that region but she has to be in that region.
Abloishing card rules are the same no matter where you go. It's just a matter of rng manipulation. Go to Tribia with a different rule set. Save with that rule so if it fails, you can just reload.
The best way to do this is to find a draw point. Click on the draw point but don't actually draw it. Do that a few times (it changes your rng value. Changing screens will change the rng value as well) then go accept the mix rules, then quit. 3 things will happen, you'll spread one of the rules you're carrying. You'll abolish one of their rules. Or nothing will happen. If nothing happen, mix the rules and quit again. Something should happen.
If you didn't get the rule abolish, reload and try a different amount of time you encounter the draw point. If you do the same exact thing, you'll get the same result every single time so you need to just mess around with the draw point until you get the right rng value to abolish the rule you want. (Don't listen to people who say it's random, all the rules has a set rng value, reloading your game set your rng value back to one) I accidently spread random to timber so I mess around with that draw point behind the pub (a hidden save is also there) and played the guy on the ground. I eventually got random abolish (I think I did the draw point 9 times)
its not working. i have a PS3 and i bought a PS1 classic game Final Fantasy VIII ( NOT REMASTERED ) from Playstation Network
and no matter what i do i keep getting Odin killed. even when timer is zero.
im playing on a LOW LEVEL GAME if that matters. ODIN's HP is only 4k and i reduce this to 600 before i strike final.
oh man this is such a bummer, it just doesn't work for me on the ps4, i tried several times (both with 20 minutes and the 1:30 teleport) and spent about 2 hours, with different combos, with zell, squall.
my odin had 4600hp, at first i thought that the problem was a killing blow before the timer reached 0, so i made sure that the first hit wouldn't kill him... still joined
then i tried the opposite (made sure to kill him before the timer expired)... still joined
funny thing is i'd have obtained about 3 dark matters in that time, i guess this trick either got fixed or doesn't always work and i got a terrible streak of bad luck
I did it, took me 7-8 tries. At first i had Zell on Ultima strenght and it didn;t work Then i did not junction anything to his strenght, left Odin with 93HP, Zell doing 33 or so, Duel on auto, attacked at -1. I am on Epsx latest version..Disx 3 Angelo searching active, and you get an Odin card as long as you dont already have one. 2 in a row so far,2nd try Odin had 80hp..
Then again tried 3 times unsuccessfully..
Did they patch this? I tried this three times now and everytime Odin joined me instead. I made sure his health was high enough that the first hit wouldn't kill him when the timer hits zero.

How come your lvl 100 squall with strength of 255 and lionheart equipped only taking off 2000 damage?
there 2 possible reason to that....1 he took off his str-j off(edited that part out)....or 2...he has assign elemental dmg to his dmg which Odin is resistant to in such case he take less dmg

Tried this at 4 seconds left when Odin had 3,898 hp remaining and didn't work...he joined me. Re-Started & Tried it again at 2 seconds left when he had 4,356 hp remaining and same thing! On the 2nd attempt I didn't use trigger at all during the limit break...I don't understand why he joins me? I only do a couple thousand a hit with Squall the way I got him junctioned right now. I couldn't have killed him in the first 2 strikes right?
I've already spent an hour on attempting this...Should I gimp him some more and try again? [Take Squalls Strength junction off or junction weak magic to it]
You Have To Use An Ongoing Animation At That Time And Make The Animation Go PAST His Final Battle Script, It Helps To Use Something Like "Renzokuken" With Squall Or "Duel" With Zell. Duel With Zell Is Actually A BETTER Idea, As His Animations Are Longer.
***UPDATE: Un-Junctioned Squall's Strength, Elemental Attack, & took off his Strength +40% ABILITY and it worked! Had him too strong is all I guess! Thank you for the vid...glad I gave it "one more try". :-)
@@brianreisbeck6592 Yeah If You FULLY DEPLETE His HP Too Early, That's JUST LIKE Killing Him Before Time Runs Out. Timing Is The Key.
@@RedMarioXIIINanaki36 Yeah...I tried it again for a 2nd Luck-J scroll and had the same prob again. Thought I timed it identically but must have been off a smidge. I'll try again tomorrow but leave him with a little more health I guess.

I'd have to say it depends on how good your RNG is with trying to get a curse spikes.
Nope. With 3x speed up in the remaster, the fixed triface encounters are faster. Level them up and mug if you are low level to get 6x per mug or 8x per mug.
@@TheEternalStallion I thought encounters in Deep Sea were fixed to higher level anyway. The enemies in there were seemingly fixed levels as they were stronger than what I fought outside. Or maybe I was just tricked into seeing that.
I think the late game curse spike method is quicker, but this method is available as early as disc 2 and allows you to draw Triple and Stop magic very early. Picking up a couple luck J scrolls while drawing some useful spells for junctioning is worth it in the early game.

How do you keep getting limit breaks without Aura and at full HP?
Remastered version allows u to turn on that feature. U can also speed up the game. Very useful when. Stocking up on magic

Tried it twice, first time with 5 seconds to go, second time with 1 second to go, both times Odin joined me, even though timer got to 0 before Squall even landed the first strike from Renzokuken

I’m not playing the remastered version but the original downloadable game on my ps3 and it’s not working either. I have the door open. I’ve got Squall’s health super-low so he gets the Renzokuken easily. I have a powerful attack on him with mug. I have Selphie throw a haste on him really quick and he is mugging within 2 tries so I have the scroll. I use a scan to make sure about the health and get the health to where he said. I’ve then used Renzokuken with 3 seconds left, 2 seconds left, then one second left and everytime it’s having me win against Odin and get him instead of booting me out. 🤔

Oops! Party at just under level 17 so, actually level 16 STILL! And it took less time to get Tonberry afterwards as with Squal SO overpowered 1 limit break from him kills each tonberry & not too long to kill the tonberry king for the GF to join the party!
I started the fight after 15 min to see i forgot to put "mug" on zell :D
Casted Squall's LB at 0:00 and i was able to start again

I tried a second time, mug him, casted Ren at 0:01 and it didnt work

Well Actually It's Called The "Odin Trick". It's Very Tricky To Do Though And I Actually Tried To Do It Many Times And Could Not Trigger It. It Might Be Very Random On When It Does/Doesn't Work Or Just Really Tricky To Pull Off In General. You Have To Kinda Do It JUST RIGHT.
I think it would count as a glitch considering it is inconsistent and has you lose while winning.

Can anyone confirm if this truly works on the switch port or not. I see no reason why the port would be different but I have tried this for hrs and have yet for it to work.

Now THAT I Am Not Too Sure Of, As I Am Nowhere Near The End Of Disc 1 But I MIGHT Test THAT Out As Well, By Refining The Odin Card And Doing That Again, Making Sure To SAVE Beforehand. But I Do Know If You Have The "Odin" Card In Your Inventory, Any Additional One He DROPS Is Not Added To Your Card List As Your Only Supposed To Have Cards Like That One In Quantities Of "1".
If you do the CC card club sidequest you can play the members inside Ragnarok in disc 4. If you refine one of the special cards they play it.
I've tried it with Irvine Card to get str ups.

I mean since u can farm lucky-j scrolls why not farming Odin card too,if u can: even if odin card is refined into 100 dead spirit (almost useless becouse the give Death spell and by time u get to Odin u can have already it) which u can sell for money maybe

You can actually keep Y on the Switch Version (Square on PS-Versions, I assume) pressed when you enter the ruins to get teleported directly to Odin with 1:30 left on the counter. Just make sure to open up the stairs first, or you'll trap yourself, if you just want to defeat him normally. ^^
This is less work, just do something else while waiting,I just watch something on TV or my phone

Tried 3 times with Renzokukens at 3, 2 and 1 seconds. Didn't work - Odin joined me.
It does work on Switch Remaster. I did it on disc 2 and got 3 luck-j scrolls before moving on.
It's extremely tedious, the timing still eludes me.
Doesn't work on PS4/PS5. Odin still uses his finishing move at zero.
I feels like killing triface and get 100 curse skipe will be faster than 20 minutes. But good to know tho

As of 2024. It doesn't work for the remastered ps4/ps5 version anymore. Must of been patched.

Got Odin card from disc 4 card player then defeat Odin himself in Centra Ruins, still 1 Odin card.
@@wedasantika6079 If You Already Have The "Odin" Card In Your Card List Another One From Odin Himself Won't Go Into Your Card List. I Was Talking About With Refining It And Seeing If He Drops The Card Again When I Refined The First And Didn't Have It Then.
@@RedMarioXIIINanaki36 I saw another video that's several years old at this point, and they showed getting a new card with this trick after refining the Odin card, so I think that should work.

As with the PuPu/ UFO Aegis farm, I could not get this to work after several failed attempts. Odin joins me no matter how I perform the renzokuken.. I mean, I appreciate his help and all but.. He’s like a really clingy boyfriend.. 😂 😂 😂

timer is 00:00 long before the first strike of Rensokuken and Odin still joins

It does work. I failed many times, I only got it to work a few times using Quistis limit break Shockwave Pulsar, but the success seems random despite getting the same timing for the finisher. I've had it succeed at 1 second remaining and even 5 seconds remaining. Not sure what the secret is.
While I appreciate this, this is obviously a pre-recorded video that you voiced over and edited. It would be more helpful if you did this live and/or said how many times you failed before you finally got it to work.
I failed 0 times and completed it 3 times today.
He didn't also note that once you complete the tower, you don't need to re-unlock the staircase, or gem-eyes. So the sequential times are much faster than the first.
