How to get the AMAZING Angelo Search in Final Fantasy 8 Remastered & AUTO FARMING GUIDE!

Angelo Search takes on a MUCH greater important in Final Fantasy 8 Remastered and it is one of the few aspects of the game that has actually been updated here. In the orginal FF8 it could be used to collect some nice items and that is still the case of course.
However, some of the game's rarest and most valuable loot - such as the incredible Ribbon abilty, were previously only attainable through the now non-existing Chocobo World mini-game. Instead, those elusive and coveted items have been stuck onto the Angelo Search loot table, so happy hunting!
In my guide I explain how to actually unlock Angelo Search so that it is usable in battle, and then go over how to farm using the ability by leaving your system on over night.

The important thing that wasn't mentioned as to why Gilgamesh is the problem is because he is based on the same timer as Angelo Search. When the timer goes off, there is a 50/50 chance that either Angelo or Gilgamesh will appear.
It is also important to note that Turtapods will not close their shell unless they are at least lv30, so if you are playing a low-level game, you will need to level it up with Tonberry's Ability first.
Also, there are 9 distinct intervals that the RNG uses to activate Angelo Search and they are used in a consistent and constant loop that takes about 60 minutes to fully rotate from point 1 through point 9, starting at point 1 again. This time IS affected by the 3x booster, reducing the time from about 60min (or 9 searches per hour) to about 20min (or 27 searches per hour).
Thank you for mentioning the lvl 30 requirement, I spend a half an hour trying to get the defense mode to trigger thinking and was getting pretty frustrated.

Do we know if turn-skipping or having Angelo’s other abilities learned effects the intervals? I know staying at max HP keeps Angelo Recover/Revive from activating but I’m curious if the game still cycles thru those abilities, just doesn’t use them doing nothing that turn.
Doesn’t seem like turn-skipping does anything since I’ll sometimes get a search right off the bat or it’ll take 4-5 minutes (on x3 speed) regardless. Thank God the speed up works tho, I know that one for a fact! Still miserable getting these rare items…
@@dylpickle0192 turn-skipping with the speed boost on is hard because the timer doesn't quite work at exactly 3x speed, so if you've going to manually search, so it at normal speed.
As far as Angelo's other abilities, no, all the abilities are based on the same activation timer table, it just randomly picks one of the accessible effects when the counter reaches the current entry. If Angelo search is the only option, that's all that will happen. If there are any other events that can occur, they can happen at a 1/# chance, with # being all available options. If Search, Gilgamesh, Recover, and Reverse are all viable, the chance is 1/4 for each.

Recover and reverse only happen if, 1. You have been attacked and have low health, 2. Someone is dead. Otherwise, only Search triggers.
I did this for days.... 2 mogs amulet, 2 hungry cook pots, no friendship.... fought omega in my lvl 100 play through, Angelo casually appears and finds Friendship. Never had such a tense fight in my entire life. I’m now the proud owner of Friendship and Proof of Omega 😁

AFK for about 5 hours and we have 15 potions, a Circlet, 12 Potion+, 2 Aegis Amulets, 2 Ribbons, 1 Friendship, 1 Mog’s Amulet, and some GF stuff. Very cool stuff, Fuzz-as always.
I got a ribbon within the first 5 searches!! Unbelievably fortunate
I am late to this I know, but wow!
First time I've ever tried, left it on at night and woke up to find:
3 status guards, 3 moon curtains, 3 aegis amulets, 2 hungry cookpots and 3 ribbons and a mog amulet!!
Along with other minor gf items and potions and stuff. Amazing
I bought the original game in 2000 (I always waited a year for games). Didn't have the mini-game, so in all these years, I've never had the ribbon. One night of afk search, I had 2 ribbons, and 5 status guards...
I totally got that Ribbon as a fluke, saw this waaaaay after learning everything. And getting Odin.

Nice one thanks for that. Got ribbon, minimog, friendship, occult fan 2 and a load of other random stuff. Had it running for about 10 hours
Did smaller stints (read online that many of the more useful items came in the first 3 hours, for whatever reason). Entered the fight, placed on 3x speed. Left it alone for 3 hours: got the 3 things I cared about (1 Ribbon, 1 Mogs Amulet, 1 Hungary Cookpot) among a bunch of others each time. Did it 3 times, called it good.
I started watching this walkthrough later than whenever you gave the warning not to learn things with Angelo
First time trying it tonight. Hope i have a ribbon in the morning!
After leaving on for 9 hours, items of note i got were. 4 Ribbons. 4 Aegis Amulets, 1 status guard, 1 hungry cookpot, 1 friendship, 1 moon curtain. No minimog :(
Actually you don’t have to go to edea’s house to reunite with Angelo. I was doing Angelo search for many hours just before this. So you can start grinding Angelo search once you got rinoa in your party after saving her from the sorceress memorial

Just north of lunar gate there is a desert wall with a forest on top of it. Hug that wall for Turtapod on disk 4.
I have a question if I equip Rare items does it effect with rare items search? Also one more thing does Luvluv G effect with the pet’s compatibility you know more anglo search based on luck value too

I noticed in the stream you mentioned that you had to wait to disk 4 to draw eden from tiamat.
Is there a benefit for not getting it from ultimate weapon?
I can answer this one. You can get fixed triface encounters in the Deep Sea Research Center where you can farm Curse Spikes for Dark Matter with Siren's Tool-RF ability. However, if you defeat Ultima Weapon those fixed encounters go away and you lose a very nice farming spot. My advice is to do what Fuzz is doing and drawing Eden from Tiamat and making a separate save on disk 4 so you can fight Ultima Weapon later when your done with farming and you can also come back to it again and again if you want

@@MrJamlime44 The only drawback to getting it from Tiamat however is your literally 2 min away from the final boss fight so Eden will not have learned anything and be base level, so you would ether have to run ALLLLL the way back out of the castle to go grind exp, or settle for using him maybe once or twice during the fight. Even though Eden is the strongest GF by far, you really don't need it at all , there is a reason its an optional GF after all, it has such a long animation for such little payoff too I think I have used him maybe 3-4 times EVER just to see it for fun and then went back to doing 10 times his damage with Lionheart lol and once you have farmed enough of the curse spikes to make a few Dark Matters from the Tri-Face your really never have to come back to that place so I would say farm 300-400 Curse spikes to make Dark matter enough to give Quistis her Limit Break and Refine 3 Luck Scrolls/Rosetta Stones (You will need Eden's GFAbilityRefine Skill to make Luck Scrolls and Rosetta Stones) and then go Kill Ultimate weapon and get Eden there as you will never have a need to come back for the fixed encounters, if you need exp grinding use the Island Closest to Hell.

I have created another battle scenario to automate the angelo search: I used the iron giant but blinded him so that he can never hit the player's characters. There is angelo search during this battle but it seems the frequency is low? I am not sure if it is a good option as in my case, the Torpod never went to defence mode so the confuse only lasted for 30 seconds and it returned to normal to attack.
so does the triple speed affect the in game timer causing this to trigger more often? for example if the counter was to be triggered at level 1 which would be 13 seconds, instead would it be triggered right around 4 seconds real time as that would equal the 13 seconds in game time?

Well I found this guide after aquiring Odin and learning all of Angelo's other techniques. I was expecting to be doomed, but he is searching at 2 minute intervals.
I get ODIN just before entering Pandora with Laguna Rock. I like to have full control over the battle and I don't want the team to get any EXP unless they have the bonus activated. I avoid getting exp by converting enemies into cards or using petrify magic.
Wanted to try this for the ragnarok ( lionheart) mod and this works on there but 1 thing to note i accidentally poisoned the pod and it took damage while spinning so becareful if you have counter and pain or bio equipped

Just a question, i may be missing something. When i try to confuse the turtapod it allways gets out of confuse just by atacking itself. It never gets in that closed position. I dont know if i have to do something for it to close itself
try to do some action on him, like healing or using dispel on him, in a few attempts he will close himself, then cast confuse on him

If you only plan to farm for everything once, and you only want to once, then just get odin if youre worried about missing the deadline. Odin with only kill at the start of a fight, so if ue doesnt activate, you can farm freely. Then you can still get Gilgy.
I actually was able to use Angelo search before going back to the orphanage.
I did this for a week with decent results. Got moon curtains and mog amulets. Good stuff, not great. As soon as my playtime hour went red on my menu screen i quickly got 3 ribbons and my first friendshil in the same day.
This is easier on the UFO enemy for the PuPu quest. It will just sit there forever with no setup and is escapable.
Can it be done more then once?
Left the game on for literally days, over 290 hours. Got over 20 Friendships, over 20 Ribbons, 13 Hungry Cookpots, and ZERO Mog's Amulet!!! I need a special cheat for getting it....
Over 330 hours now and still no Mog's Amulet. I am playing the PC version and maxed out all character levels and nearly all GF levels.
That stinks. I did 3 nights of searching, so about 25 hours worth. I did get a Mog amulet but only 1 ribbon in that time. Also 6 aegis amulets. I want at least 2 more ribbons.

I try last night and when I check and save, my psn account was banned. Is this considerated as a cheat? Or It was because Im playing the game with my Sís account.
I did for about 2 hours a literally nothing appear like one measly gmega potion I suppose i have to leave much more time and also I suppose angelo recover and reverse is affectin had I know of this method before I would have learnt them well at least I did not get gilgamesh or odin yet
Skipped the Turtapod coz Confuse was not working on it, might be a bug. Instead went to Balamb and cast LVL Down on a Bite Bug so it does next to no damage... also made configured PS4 to not turn off in Power Saving settings.

Beyond Beowulf I was having the same problem with not being able to keep the turtapod confused, found out it has to be above lvl 30. Now it works like a charm ✌️
@@Feanor3444 Thank you for posting that, I went through 28 confuse spells using Zell, and then reloaded and added Rinoa thinking Zell's magic level sucked, tried again and another 32 spells later was getting ready to walk away from this tip. Decided to read comments to see if this had been patched and found your post. 👍
Tuturpod need to be at lvl 30 and above to go into its protect mood. Use Level Up to level the tuturpod to lvl 30, then attack normally until it closes up, and the cast confuse on it.

Does anyone know if they have now patched this? I couldn’t get confuse to stick before the turtapod would kill himself and I tried it multiple times. I guess it doesn’t matter at this point I’m currently just sitting on idle with the pupu ship. I’m just a few hours from 24/hrs. I’m gonna let it go for another day or so at least. Hopefully I get a hungry cook pot, Mogs amulet, and a few ribbons.

So? The abilities do not matter UNLESS you have been injured and are on low health, or if someone is dead. That is the ONLY TIME they activate. Otherwise, ir is all Search.
I just tested Angelo Search for 40 minutes afk with Rinoa's luck boosted as much as i could and i got some really rare items like friendship and minimog. Probably some other stuff that automatically stacked with my other rare items. But it seems that luck does affect it from my own experience. You can junction luck to her, this is afk anyway.
So, I just finished 33 hours of Angelo search (not all at the same time over about 3 days) and here was my list. Now, I know that there is at least 1 more item which is the Hungry Cookpot, but I never got it in my search. I did get 4 Ribbons and 2 Mog's Amulet

Just means you get items faster. Much faster
AV BulletCatcher I’m having this problem too. Everywhere I see, people are saying 4 or 13 seconds and Angelo Search doesn’t happen for at least 5 minutes at a time.
Cloud Strife you get them faster. I got 2 ribbons in the first two hours of running Angelo search
@@helminshawy it's 13 secs for it to get a point each point in it's hidden counter increases the chance of it happening. So no it doesn't go off every 13 secs. It goes off when the rng conditions say it does any where from 13 secs and up to i think 1300 secs or 21 mins. Usually the rng is generous and has it happen in about 5 to 6 mins though.
so i dont want to confirm this myself, but i want to help if its true. it seems like angelo search on console ( ps4)has ribbon dropped at certain time. for me it dropped 1 for every angelo search i did between 6-10 am. 3 days in a row, i got 1 each day from dec 25th to dec 27th. i am in SE Asia. maybe someone can confirm it for me so it can help others?
For some reason, im getting the rarer items on a blinded Iron Giant. No luck on the turtapods.

No. The 2013 version of the game (“not-Remaster”) have the Chocobo minigame built in the launcher. You have to play the minigame to get the itens.

I’ve left Angelo Search running for a total combined period of roughly 47 hours now, according to the game clock. A bit less than that, since I’ve been stopping the search occasionally to give my machine breaks, check what I’ve gotten, and sell off the excess junk, but I’ve done nothing else in the game since I started.
Out of the 5 items you can only get via Angelo Search, I’ve gotten 6 Hungry Cookpots, 4 Mog’s Amulets, 3 Ribbons, 2 Friendships, and zero-ZERO-Chocobo Tags. I only want one just to have it in my inventory, and over 46 hours of searching later, I got nada.
RNGesus hates me beyond all reason.

This Is EXCELLENT For Farming "Ribbon" Items In FF8 Remastered! I Reccommend Getting "6" For EACH Character! Just Be Careful Using Amnesia Greens To Unlearn An Ability, Don't Unlearn Any Of The EXCLUSIVE ONES That Are EXCLUSIVE To GFs! Also If You Want To MAKE The Turtapod Close Itself, Simply Have ONE Attack It Without Killing It, IMMEDIATELY Having Another Character Cast "Confuse" On It After.
I cast demi on it, no chance of killing, usually closes first time.

I actually got a Kombat...err, I mean Combat King 004 on my current playthrough (yes, me being a Mortal Kombat fan makes me spell that word with a K at times)
And I have my PS4 controller set to shut off after 10 minutes of inactivity.

@@sungoddess2381 I tried in dock mode (after changing sleep settings) it kept going into sleep mode for some reason.
However I decided to try it in handheld mode and I've gotten at least a few items.

Coincidentally, I think the first Angelo Search item I got in FF8 Remaster was also Mog Amulet
as if Rinoa wasn't allready one of the best characters, they ahve made her a must have party member with the angelo search changes.
You basically have ONE other character slot. I use Quistis as 3rd.
I always roll with Squall, Zell and Rinoa.
Squall for obvious reasons, zells booya-punch rush cycle is ridiculous and rinoa for search/invincible moon/wishing star/angel wing meteor trick and story reasons. She also has the highest base stats of any character thus good for powerlevelling.
I occasionally use quistis for power leveling with degenerator on ICTH and shockwave pulsar can break damage cap.
Selphie is also a strong contender for the 'one' slot with the only other 255% hit weapon save for squall and 'The End' kills anything and everything.
@AV BulletCatcher only ever learn wishing star and invincible moon for rinoa (and angelo search for later). This limits her limit breaks to only be angelo cannon/moon or wishing star dependant on crisis level. Angelo search is for tedious item hunting as there isnt chocobo world in the remaster.
You learn angel wing through story progression. The trick there is magic is 5x stronger but you lose control similar to berserk. Due to how angel wing works and selects magic, you can essentially strip rinoa of everything except the meteor spell so she constantly casts it doing 5x damage.
Why is confuse not working for me??? I've used about 20 of em and all it does it get hit with it then it hits itself
Just figured it out. Turtapod needs to be at least Level 30. Equip the LVL UP ability if you’re playing a low level game.
Doesn't matter what level you're at it needs to go into its defensive cocoon.
Just smack that little bastard and use his own healing on him if he's close to death

Yeah, I'll cast confuse.. itll spin around for a few seconds.. then hit itself and come out of confuse state
Turtapod must be level 30+
Hit it with a weak physical attack until it closes into its defensive state and then cast confuse
What you can do if you are playing low level like I am, sometimes an Imp will be accompanied with a Turtapod, you can hit the Imp with someone that's junctioned with break as an ST-Attack which will petrify the Imp and then confuse the Turtapod. Once the Turtapod is confused, it'll keep hitting the petrified Imp over and over... That's a workaround that I've been doing while angelo search is running.

I didn't hear him mention it in the video, and it's pretty damn important info if you're on a low lvl game.
What a shame such a useful ability isn't available until mid-disc 3 where your so overpowered already just from playing the game normally and there really isn't much left for you to do before the end of the game at this point that any of the items you receive are a waste of time and worthless :( Angelo Search should have been one of the first abilities you learn when Rinoa Joins you in Timber, then it would actually get more practical use throughout the game.
@NPC# 8675309 ribbons, yet another completely useless item received far too late to be helpful, by the middle of disc 1 you can get the exact same effect adding 100 Death,Break,Berserk, and Confuse spells to Status Defense, since those are the major 4 that would permanently debilitate you in battle, the others are easily removed and dealt with.
@@blakearmentrout7717 you need to wait until you have either Doomtrain or Cerberus before you get ST-Def-Jx4, in which case, Cerberus isnt obtained until you're on Disc 2

Compared To ODIN, Gilgamesh Just PLAIN SUCKS Due Not Only To How He Randomly Appears DURING Battle, But Also His 4 Different Attacks That He Chooses 1 Of Randomly. At Least With ODIN, He Only Randomly Appears At The START Of Battles And Uses ONE Attack, Which Is Not Quite AS BAD. Unless Of Course Your Trying To Avoid Leveling Or Some Other Important Thing.

I just found out that the enemy must be high level, preferably 100. If it is low level the trick will not work because the enemy will manage to come out of the confuse status. 🤔
What I did was break the second enemy and then confuse the pod. It stayed confused and just kept hitting the broken enemy. I didn't scan the enemy but Squall is level 7.
Yep. This trick relies on your turtle going into "defense mode"(accordingly named in the scan) before being confused.
Level 30 or so seems to give them that ability
@@alexandrewhinman8761 I'm not sure exactly why levels should matter at all. Just wait until you get in a battle with a turtle and another enemy that is not a turtle. Break the non turtle and confuse the turtle. Done.

Probably too late to this party, but will add in my 2 cents on this to help others:
- You don't have to have done the story bit at Edea's house, you just have to have collected Rinoa from the Sorceress Memorial after coming back from space
- Whilst I was trying to set up the Turtapod with confuse magic cast by Squall and Quistis, Angelo search happened for me, so I think it's just Rinoa that has to take no action, enemies and other party members don't appear to count? Not really relevant but why not mention it, eh?
- If you're doing a low level play through, it appears that low level Turtapods don't close up at all; I wasted 34 confuses before trying level up twice then it closed up after 2 turns. Level 30+ it seems.
Kinda disappointing that you can do these close to the end of the game, would be much more fun to have it at the beginning so you can enjoy it more.
Square Enix should patch this. I keep getting things like Potions, Combat King 4 and Occult Fan 2. I have a few rare items, but its a pointless excercise to obtain so many non rare items in between.
Nope it is entirely random, within the span of 50 minutes I have had Search activate at one second, five minutes later, two minutes later, ten minutes later, and then five seconds later. Entirely random with no logic or reason behind it.
Geez, how would I know to just not learn those two abilities ha ha. This is the whole thing I don't get about 8; its just full of weird idiosyncratic nonsense that runs counter to what you would naturally want to do as a player... "No never learn that limit break!!" "Oh you want to cast magic well now your stats have gone down!" "Leveling up? Well, don't worry so have all the enemies!" "Wanna use your cool special attack? Well just have everyone be nearly dead at all times!" Still, it at least has that sincere charm golden age RPGs used to have. A labor of love in a modern world full of artless cynical clones.
