  • Review of the Cold Steel SR1 Lite. With 8cr13mov steel, a Griv-Ex handle, and at half the price of the SR1 model, how does it stack up against its more expensive brother? Let's check it out.

    Hey Matt, are you having any issues with the blade contacting the spring or backspacer? We've heard a few comments about this happening elsewhere and wanted to check in. If it is hitting the blade, please reach out. Cool video!

      Hey guys! Honored to have you watch the video! I no longer own the blade, sold it to make room for more Cold Steel! But I didn't have any issues in the 3-4 months I owned the knife. And the gentleman who bought it said everything was 100% good to go. Hope you get everything sorted. Thanks!

      Almost every CS folder I have bought has that problem. But as an engineer, I have repaired that problem! How did I fix it? Ask me nice. I wrote to CS support and heard nothing!

    This knife finally solved my daily question of which one to carry. The CS SR1 Lite is hands down the best bang for the buck, and I own folders from $15 to $900. You can carry this one, use it for everything, and never be afraid to damage it, due to the low entry prices. And I bet you will never be able to hurt it. CS for Life!

    Very informative review brother. Love Cold Steel knives. Currently my EDC is the ZT 0350ST. One heck of a knife. Highly recommend it. Keep the vids coming.

    Ordered one of these after watching the Cold Steel video with 400 lbs. of weights hanging on the handle of an SR1 Lite. Pretty impressive. Coolest knives I bought this month so far are some axis lock Ganzo/Firebird folders via Amazon for $17 to $21 each.

    80CrV2 is such an underrated steel. It is an extremly tough steel with decent hardness with good heat treatment. One just needs to take care of it to prevent the rust , as it's not stainless. But that knife will keep the edge and will be even tougher than most modern "super steels"

    • @msharmall7298

      It's actually really hard for me to decide which to get. Had the air lite tanto but it had alot of blade play and a gritty action so I sent it back, probably am gonna get a new one soon though. What puts the air lite above the sr1 in my book is the aggressive thumb texturing on the top of the blade and just how thick the air lite is all the way to the tip. It seems really weird to me that the sr1 lite doesn't have the blade thumb texturing, I mean it's supposed to be an ultra tactical knife ffs... I know it has a bigger guard, maybe that negates the need for more, but idk.

    Bought the SR1 Lite Tanto. I like the knife. It is my knife in my work clothes. I have a Voyager Large Tango in AUS-8A when i am in street clothes. And i have an Immortal in CPM-S35VN as my knife in dress clothes. So I have a 4" Cold Steel knife no matter how I am dressed. Good review though.

    I think they should leave it at that bladestock thickness, but make the grind thinner, because i can imagine it is really thick behind the edge. If they go down to 4mm, it´s just another 4 inch Cold Steel, so that way it would really fill a gap in the market. Almost like a really inexpensive Medford. Thick up top for strength, thin down where you cut. Great Video, helped me out a lot, thank you!

    Im still waiting on my tanto sr1 lite. I carry a vaquero xl serrated most of the time or g10 espada large in xhp those two are my favorites when I go camping I take my rahja2. Being a mechanic an a construction type worker I’m hard use on knives. So that is why I use coldsteel. A lot of knives are made to look fancy an have shit for safety. I want affordable an safe that’s why I’m a coldsteel fanboy also I practice martial arts. an the only knife maker that really makes usable martial blades because they hire martial artist is coldsteel regardless of what they say about Lynn Thompson he trains with the best in the world. Anyway that’s my points to add weight to some of your points. An who doesn’t like damn never indestructible an for a reasonable price.

    Correction. 80crv2 is a cheap to buy and use however in terms of use it's really good. It's one of the strongest steels, chopping and batoning, holds an edge well and has a bit of better rust resistance than 1084 or 1095. Oil it, wipe it dry from when wet and it won't rust.

    If you'd prefer a thinner, more practical blade, would the Pro Lite fit the bill? (Less expensive, too, but 4116)

    • @MattRoseKnives
      @MattRoseKnives  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most likely. 4116 isn't actually a terrible steel. Not quite the edge retention but great rust resistance

      @desmobob900sssp 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MattRoseKnives Yup... I used to be a "steel snob" and looked at blade steel first when picking out a knife. As a normal, casual knife user, I've come to realized that steels like AUS8, 4116, 8Cr1Mov, etc. do what I need a knife to do. Besides, sharpening is part of the knife hobby! Cold Steel seems to do an excellent job with the heat treat on their AUS8, AUS10, and 4116, in my experience. It performs very well. High price-to-value ratio...

      @@MattRoseKnives Actually the lite series of CS knives are much more of a value than the high end knives! I have 3 San Mai knives Magnum tanto XII, Master tanto and Outdoorsman. The sheaths are so bad that the knives lockup and had to pry open the sheaths to unlock the locking studs. The lite series the sheath is like Mora's and they work and are 1/3 the price. I had to fix the lock back spring on 85% of all the high end folders I have bought. But the low end folders work fine!

    Incidentally, the Thickness is bar far the #1 reason I got it.. Its what I love most about the knives I love.. NOW, maybe make a Slim version like the Medford's did.. The Slim Middy.. It is my opinion that they keep this and actually make a fatter version.. The Boker Plus Bob is another overbuilt knife that is Un naturally thick as is the Tops Operator 7.. So I do disagree that they should slim this down, but make a slimmer version ...Absolutely!

    I am assuming it doesn't have a balanced feel to it,,, unless the handle is the same weight as that blade,,,,, ?

    • @MattRoseKnives
      @MattRoseKnives  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is a little weight forward heavy... But it is more balanced than you would think. The handle is quite long and the aluminum backspacer helps even things out.

      @@MattRoseKnives the pro lite has 4116 steel , I know it's a low budget steel but it works . the pro lite has the triad lock , a thinner blade which is very slicey . I have the clip point , I love it , if I could find the drop point pro lite I'd get it . I have seen the drop point still in the Steve Austin working man but it's $35+ . last I checked Blade HQ has the pro lite clip for $22. the sr1 lite is probably my next knife although I have also been eyeing the Finn wolf for a few years now so it's between either but I feel though the Finn wolf is probably more edc pocket friendly but the blade grind is less edc friendly and if I was planning on needing a scandi I would probably carry a fixed but the sr1 is for unplanned events such as what you encounter edc. Sorry for the rambling , thanks for the video review . Thanks
