    I just purchased a Sr1 Lite. There is something to be said about when you buy a Cold Steel Tri-ad Lock knife with heat treated body screws and pivot screw the right heat treat on the steel used on every model. Very durable handle materials and cool martial and utilitarian designs and very sharp out of the box. When I buy a Cold Steel Tri-ad Lock knife I know I can depend on that knife with my life if I had to. Forget the politics I buy what gets the job done!!!

      Yep. If you have to grab one folder to survive, it better be a Cold Steel.

      It's not the quantity but quality of steel that matters. This is still a folder. Not a big fixed blade. It still needs to cut and hold an edge well. Unfortunately, Cold Steel decided to cut corners by using 8Cr13Mov instead of something better like Aus10 that they're using on many other offerings.

    8cr13mov is a really good steel, I even have some 5cr15 knives that are really good. Don't know why people are so scared with them, the way you sharpen them is more important than the actual steel. Love your videos man!

    I bought an SR1 Lite Tanto Point for under $50. This knife is when I am in work clothes. I also bought a Cold Steel Voyager Large Tanto for wearing dress clothes. And I bought a Cold Steel Immortal for wearing street clothes. Anyway the SR1 Lite is a budget beast of a knife. It is not a surgical cutter, but it gets the job done. 8cr13mov does not bother me because I bought the knife before I heard the bad press. But you and Aaron from Gideon's Tactical put these knives in a good light. I really do appreciate that.

      You could switch it up and get the Clip Point version. That way you have both models. But I am both a Cold Steel and a tanto fanboy myself. All of my knives and tools are Cold Steel and most of my blades are tanto point. I love Feudal Japan, so that is possibly my love of tanto points stems from. Take care.

    This is the same experience I made with my 8Cr13 MoV Luzon Large. I EDC'd this knife from March 2020 on, and after a lot of hard use there only was one microscopic nick. I only was able to feel with my fingernail. 10 minutes stroping while watching TV on my leather strop with green compound made the nick disappear.
    I can't say anything bad about the 8Cr13 MoV Cold Steel uses for their blades.
    Stay safe everybody.

    Jim on the ad10, I had to chamfer the scales. They were sharp on the inside not the back. I had to do the same on both sr1 lites (tanto and clip). The 4 max scout didn’t need any adjustments. Even on the belt clip, I had to adjust both sr1 lites and ad10. The tension was way to high and I had to grind away some of the grit on both sr1 s ,under the clip. It’ll save my pockets! Btw you don’t have to use the thumb studs, just hold the scales and flick it, it’ll deploy nicely!

    Good review, brother, thank you for your work. Opening cans it's the best way to test the edge retention, in my opinion, this what I do. If a knife can open a can then slice tomatoes or shave hair you have nothing to say. May I suggest you to change your can opening technique, you stab first and then do a guillotine like movement, it's fast, easy to do and clean. Does it have partial steel liners? I just received my SR1 Lite Tanto yesterday. It is my first real knife. I've always had crappy "gas station" knives. It seems sturdy and very sharp, but the lock is way-way too stiff for me. I mean I'm an office worker so I don't have rough hands but I'm certainly not weak either, and I have to press so hard on the tab it leaves marks and cuts on my finger. Sometimes I have to press it with the hard, bony finger joints because the soft fingertip just bends around the locking tab and cannot push it far enough to disengage it. It hurts. Same thing with the opening It is stiff enough to almost not be able to open it with my thumb, I certainly cannot flick it open. Also I keep my knife in my front left pocket with the spine of the knife facing forward, and anytime I reach in my pocket to get my keys out or something the spine cuts my hand like paper. Very annoying things. My question is, are these normal things, and ease up with time and normal everyday use (not planning to open cars with it) or did I get a defective one?

    • @Jimislash
      @Jimislash  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The triad lock can take some getting used to. It shouldn't be a stiff opener though. I have never heard of the spine cutting anybody. That may be defective.

    I think one of the reasons 8Cr13 gets ripped a lot is because some companies really do release trash 8Cr that will not hold an edge at all. I have had CRKTs in 8Cr that held an edge about as well as tin foil. However, the steel performs adequately with a quality heat treat, and Cold Steel is pretty consistent with good heat treats.
