I have had my eNiro 4+ for 6 months now, with nearly 12000 mile on it, I spend most of the time on the motorways. Really impressed with this car and agree, its has the perfect sweet spot for distance, comfort and ease of use. Well balanced review Jonathan.

Brilliant real world day to day use Jonathan. Your enthusiasm & knowledge have obviously rubbed off as you have supplied so many e-Niros to customers. In my opinion the e-Niro is the sweet spot for driving range and family vehicle size, a lot of new design EVs are either too big for real world town driving or still limited in driving range or both. Keep up the great work.

Great review Jonathan. I’ve had my e-Niro for 6 months and done just over 10,000 miles. I drove it from Lancashire to Bondorf in Germany in September. Found the projected range to be a bit off but that was due to higher speed limits in France and Germany. We had an experience of less than 10% when we were heading back. We actually got to - - - miles left on the range as we pulled in to charge it up. I don’t think this was the car’s fault - it was just unlucky that the charger we needed was on the opposite side of the motorway so we had to go past, turn around and then go back the opposite way to get to the right services.
My wife and I’s heights are exactly the same as yours. I LOVE the memory driver seat positions - they are excellent!
I have always wanted a Tesla cos they’re pretty and techno-sexy but I gotta say the Kia is a superb car and I would choose it over a Tesla any day!

Same for me, had my E niro 4+ for 6 months, just over 5000 miles and a fantastic car. Love all of the toys and the extra bongs every now and then just remind you the tech is there and working. Such an easy drive with LKA and adaptive cruise switched on, motorway driving and traffic jams are much easier to deal with! I have had no range anxiety, knowing I can do around 250 miles and I set a rule that look to recharge if car is at 20% (Unless only a few miles from destination where I know I can charge.
Longest trip was 210 miles to Southampton, arrived and fully charged for free in shopping centre car park whilst car was left overnight. Got home with range of 65 miles left on the GOM!! Amazing car and even in winter averaging 3.5 miles/kWh

We purchased it in Utah and it arrived in Longmont, CO two days ago. It was very gently used for 9 months and 6,580 miles, and was priced @ $34,795 - around $6,600 to $7,100 below book value! Agree with everything Jonathan. 12 months done and 16,500 miles. Always charged at home on 7.2kw wall box. Never needed anything else and we live in rural Ireland with a terrible charging network. Cost for the year: €320 of electricity. I love it. The perfect all round car. Absolutely hate having to drive my wife's diesel jeep now. Like going back to horse and cart! Just ordered a Camwipe. Thanks for the link. Niro a bit sore on front tyres and front charging flap had to be replaced, and wish you could turn off the lane assist when the adaptive cruise is on but that's the only niggles. Looking forward to getting the 2023 version hopefully.

Thanks Jonathan for your thorough review. We got our e-Niro in March 2019, one of the first batch to come into France where we live, I think you call the FE (first edition) in the UK. Ours doesn’t have the heated things, sunroof or fancy stereo but it has LED headlights and heat pump. Like you we have a ‘rural life’ and the car is used like a van sometimes and is the perfect size for us, I too think the Ioniq 5 and EV6 are too big for our needs. We are now 53,000 km in and we love this car. Had some fun and games in the UK last month, my first trip back there in almost 2 years but managed to find places to charge OK. Kia e-Niro Diaries Encore on TH-cam for anyone who wants to track what we hope will be a long term ownership experience.

Great review. I've had my e-Niro for a couple of months now and it's brilliant. Like you it does exactly what I need it to do. Haven't been on a long trip with it yet and I also wouldn't want to drive 400 miles with stopping, so the range is ideal. It is not the sexiest car, but why would you want to pay (often considerably) more for, in some cases, less of what's important for the sake of looks? Having had the first real frosty day of the year, getting into a preheated car is bloody luxury!

Loved your review! I've had mine for more than a year and at 20k miles (32,187 km) with no noticable range loss. Still easily getting 260-280 a charge. In summer nights I drove to coast and back (260 miles total) and still had 39 miles remaining! Can carry anything in and on this SUV and has more acceleration and response than our BMW X1 and that says something. It has exceeded our expectations. As for backup camera at night, I replaced backup bulds with LED and it is fine now. Cost a fe buck and easy to replace. Replaced fog lights with LED then too (ZonCar 9006, yellow). Made a big difference. Putting a simple switch in module 4 fuse for the backup beeping solved that problem easy too.

I’ll definitely consider this car for my next EV Jonathan. I do have to say though that the fact that the car slows down but doesn’t stop by default when in ACC is a minus. I have an ID3 and the ACC is absolutely brilliant. It slows/speeds up/stops/starts in relation to the car in front and traffic signs, roundabouts and bends. Strangely I never hear pundits on TH-cam mention this. Probably because mostly they’re making judgements without living with the car for any period of time. The range is also good while not quite as good as the eniro.

As a EV shopper based out west in the USA, these UK reviews by owners - e.g. like Andrew Till's - are quite helpful. You folks are getting EV models sooner than we do in the States, and so hearing about the performance, features and build quality of your RVs helps me lead the target. The one disconnect, because of our Western home base, is that you folks don't routinely do the long drives we do nor, in many cases, the higher speeds. That's why Andrew & family's trip to Italy and back was so informative. Thank you for the very helpful ownership summary!

Hi Johnathan. Reference the charge schedule, it's similar to your 28kWh Windknife. I personally set the 1st departure time to 9am daily, with no target temperature then on Off-peak times ensure Off-peak tariffs only is selected. The daily departure time then becomes irrelevant and the Off-peak only times are always observed daily. Hope this helps. I have the MY2022 2 Long Range since 30th September and I do miss the extras I had on my Ioniq Premium SE and especially the auto moving drivers seat and the heat pump now winter has arrived.

Great review ...... comprehensive, interesting and above all honest. I am a man of a similar age and agree with the points you make about range and what a person actually needs and wants from their car. The e-Niro is clearly more than good enough for most people I think.
I test drove the e-Niro before I got my first EV at the end of May. It is a very good car but in the end I opted for the Hyundai Kona Ultimate. For me the facelift exterior of the Kona was slightly better than the e_Niro. But the boot is smaller than the e-Niro, which is a downside.
Many of the great features you've described are also in the Kona and I've been very pleased with the efficiency. I've done just over 6,000 miles and managed 4.7m/kWh.
I agree with the point you and Andrew Till have made about the size and efficiency of both the Ioniq5 and EV6. I really think if the cars had been made a bit smaller the range could have been better than you get with the e-Niro and Kona.

Only thing I do at the beginning of a trip is putting it in neutral and stop at the end of the street, a little bit further doing the same. That's to be sure there's no rust any more at the discs. Is needed since the e-Niro regens so good that the brakes are optional in normal use.
The only option for a new car will be or another e-Niro or the upcoming EV4 (800V platform) if even efficiënt as the e-Niro

With all the excitement of the IONIQ 5 I kind of forgot about the e-Niro, despite it being the first electric car I seriously became interested in. I currently run a 2012 Kia Picanto which I've owned since new (the first year Kia got its now distinctive facelift) and I've had zero issues with it. Now I get excited about the likes of the IONIQ 5 and in a slightly separate ballpark the Polestar 2 as my next potential car, but in terms of sheer practicality, efficiency and value for money it feels like the e-Niro can't be beat, even if it is less new and exciting. Hopefully will be starting a family in the next couple of years and a second-hand e-Niro (or new, if my salary sacrifice lease deals are still available and good value) will likely still be on the top of the list!

Must admit never had any issues on long journeys just a little planning needed but with a car that does over 220 miles easy most people need a break before that is reached.

I have a 2019, which I got in Jan 2020( leased for 3 years) This car is perfect for me, Like he said it does the job and very well. I have not 1 complaint about the car. And I've had lots of cars from Z-28 Camaro's to TR-6s ,Jag XKE , Caddy's, Chevy Trucks too many to list still have 4 other cars now, But this is my favorite toy it is just fun to drive just hit the gas - no noise, power bands and stuff, it just goes and quickly for a KIA! I'm looking for a replacement at the end of the year when the lease is up! So I have started to watch videos to see what's out there now. But my car charges in the Summer to between 295-313(the highest it ever charged ) but all the time 290+. and in the winter here in Wash St. It gets down to -20 F. sometimes in the winter, and I have the car outside under a carport, the lowest it has charged to in winter was 245 miles , this has been the same for the last 2 yrs I've had it.(I have 240v plug in at home) I only got the battery low enough to get the warning light 1 time I think it was at 17 miles left. So I see these reviews of new models talking about 230's miles or so makes me wonder now if I should keep this one at the end of the lease! Thou I'm interested in the EV-6 .... Here is another thing about EV's if you live where there is lot's of snow and Ice and you leave you car out in it, it will stick to it, a gas car gets very hot, the whole hood(bonnet) get's warm and melts off most of the snow and ice as you go, not so in a EV it seems to just stay the way it is until it gets warm enough outside!

Great review, thanks. Personally I like that the heated seats turn off when the car is powered down. On our old Leaf you find three days later that the kids have left the rear seat heater on. I do though like to have a VESS button. Shame they are not rated for towing. Cheers.

I'm trying to convince my husband to getting an EV, so far I'm interested in the Niro and the Soul. Our current car is a Rio, and it's been wonderful. I'm happy to see that the fort pettles are the same design (metal and rubber grips), it adds a nice flair to the car! We love to travel, and I'm afraid he has premature range anxiety, but the EV stations are getting more frequent in our country (Canada), plus I believe he doesn't believe the performance of an EV in the snow.

I have a KIA e Niro, live in Pembrokeshire, work in the midlands and travel over 500 miles per week and only charge in public and have found the Niro excellent. The first service was only £68 including vat and took less than an hour and the car was washed and vacuumed for the first time. Air con in the summer included windows down and heating in the winter includes the seat and steering wheel heaters and a body warmer. As Jonathan said as they have no impact on range. Most reliable public chargers in my experience are Instavolt followed by pod point and genie. Have also done the uni run to St Andrews (471 miles fully loaded!) and found motorway service charging was pants so took short diversions to reliable chargers.

A very comprehensive, factual and honest review Jonathan, I agree with all your comments & observations.
One feature that you missed is that there is space under the boot floor to fit a spare wheel, which is very handy for long trips. Being old-school I wouldn't dream of embarking on a long journey without one. Oh, you forgot to mention the 7 year warranty too!
Personally I didn't fing the seats to be particularly comfortable on long journeys, getting a numb derriere after an hour or so. I also disliked the dreary dark interior, I have seen a light interior in these in other markets, which would be my choice, but sadly not available in the UK. Thankfully the sunroof does make it feel airy.
I sold mine after 6 months because it was a problem getting my elderly dog in and out of the boot due to the load height. We had to purchase a ramp to assist him however this than had to be transported in thr rear passenger footwell which effectively converted the car into a two seater, also it was a struggle getting it in and out due to the limited door opening and the weight of the ramp, a strain on my back.
Other than the irritating startup and shutdown tune and seat comfort issue it was a really enjoyable car and I would thoroughly recommend it as a great all-round EV.
The newly launched facelift looks a lot better design wise, more up to date with a more futuristic looking interior.
It was good listening to your review and honest thoughts about the car. 👍
IMO, It is still the best value for money EV available at the moment.

Cant fault the car so far. Fast as a rocket!! Smooth, range seems to be pretty impressive. Only complaint so far is the lack of right arm support when driving.. the door card is too narrow to rest your arm when windows closed, unless you position the seat really low down, its a bit inconvinient.
Quite noticably loud on motorways too

I recently drove 200 odd miles from London back to the North West, quick refresh break but no inclination to charge. Hit "- - -" about 7 miles from home and 5%, arriving on 2% with the heating on to keep windscreen clear. This confirms for the second time that the Niro 64 kWh will do ~10 miles on dashed mileage if driven conservatively.

April of 2022 will be 1 year that I have had my Niro eco / Hybrid 2021. Not knowing anything about an all electric car, my salesman explained it all and I didn't want to mess around with all the charging instructions. A 1/4 of the manual is just about that. So he showed me the eco /hybrid stating it's both gas and electric AND ALL YOU DO IS DRIVE THE CAR. I liked that!
BTW: This is the mid range model. The lower class model didn't have the extras that I wanted.
I've got 10, 500 miles on this car. I drive it 3 days a week to work 100 miles round trip. My gas mileage is awesome. I'm averaging 49 MPG! NO PROBLEMS OF ANY KIND THUS FAR.
I really like this car, with no spare tire it had a funky foam made area for a spare, but I chose to pull it all out which makes a ton of room for storage. The only frustrating thing about this car is the front grill work. They went over the top with a grill just below the hood, with a diamond 3d pattern. Bug season in Arizona is bad enough. I have to clean the front end on every trip. But this grill is a pain in the "Gass" to clean with all the little crevices and you just can't get it all clean. I really like this car.
Normally when you buy a new car you'll see a bunch of them on the road. I hardly ever see another car like mine. My salesman hit the nail on the head when he said "your Niro is grossly undersold as people either go for the high end model or the lower class model", which floored me. The funny part of all is that I googled the top rated company (can't think of it now) that puts out all kinds of ratings for all makes of cars for many years now. They highly recommended this car yet it is undersold.

Hi Jonathan, just thought I would share a couple of my own experiences with the 4+ Firstly, the car tends to coldgate if the temperature is very low (e.g. 2 or 3 degrees and below). An example of this was lower maximum charge speed and the car reducing charging speed at 70% rather than the normal 76% even though I had driven 150 miles that day (which should have warmed the battery). Secondly to release a type 2 cable from the car you have to lock and then unlock the car, which means shutting the doors, locking the wife in etc. It would be better just to press unlock on the key fob. ps I notice you seem to be on an older software version than mine, which might explain why I found scheduled charging very simple. Aside from a few very minor niggles it’s very relaxing to drive even in city and motorway traffic and certainly the best car I have ever had! Thank you Jonathan, the Reflex Project and Drive Electric.

Great review down to earth and very practical, it has confirmed I made the right choice in buying one for the wife as an everyday car it does everything so well. I have added a RHD Frunk and gas struts, a very easy job to do and came with VAT free export From Austria, rear wiper from woodward digital, mud flaps from eBay along with boot protection foil. We have PV on roof of house so EV was a no brainer coupled with a Zappi home charger, I am hoping for no cost motoring other than tyres and maintenance and that can be reduced with KIA prepaid 3 to 5 year contract from local KIA dealer who has been truly 5* in helping us through the journey to EV ownership, They are KIA Washington West Sussex and see Matt Hemmingway for sales a great people person.

Great review and just what I needed - thank you. I'm moving across to a 4+ on Saturday from the MG ZS EV (good & quiet on the motorway/surprisingly practical, but not enough range for me ultimately with work). I'd wondered if it has a heat pump - which you've confirmed, the real world efficiency - which you provided. I had a test drive last week and I thought that it drove really well, certainly much less floaty than the MG, more body control. Stereo with the sub was really good I thought - I've seen a few unkind reviews out there on the sound. Leagues better than the MG anyway.
The boot did look small on first glance, but then I realised it's a fairly wide car, so maybe 5 bags of supermarket shopping across the width and a couple more in front?
On the range front, journey's outside the county with the MG were always a bit of a lottery with public charging, but I agree that the range of the e-Niro is transformative and I won't hesitate in being able to take it fully up the country. On that subject, do you know how fast the rapid charging rate is? I know on the First Edition it was 77Kw (like the MG). I've also heard that keeping the battery above 20% allows it to charge more quickly.
We were up in summer doing the NC500 - lovely part of the world - lucky man! Keep up the great reviews!

I’ve had my eNiro for 2 years now and last night was the first time I ended with 8% battery warning with only 19miles left. I knew I had 9miles to home so continued albeit slowed down from 70mph to 50 and moved to lane 1. Then the battery changed to 5% with a big Warning “Charge immediately” and the range disappeared into “--“, not a great feeling when on a motorway. But since I knew there was at least 12miles range left in the battery I continued on. As soon as I turned to my local road with a familiar Pub I felt safe whatever. Got home with 4% of battery left, so all good in the end. Love this car but it consumes more with icy weather ❄️

I recently got the hybrid Niro. I wanted the ENiro but the price was just more than I could manage at the moment. I test drove one though and the one thing I noticed was that the transmission was weird. In lower speeds (25-40 MPH) it would lurch weirdly (like if you were driving a stick and either needed to shift up or down a gear). I'm told that the transmission is "smart" and adjusts to your driving habits. But, just that little bit made me decide not to push it with the eNiro (I might have been able to swing it but the idea of getting a car that drove like in the city, which is where most of my driving would be, was just not worth the risk)

Hi Jonathan, thanks for the review. I've had mine a couple of weeks and absolutely love it, but can already see what you mean about the reverse camera. I've found similar products to the Camwipe on ebay/amazon which are about half the price and are also just 3D printed, but some of the reviews say they are a bit rubbish. Do you think it's worth going for the Camwipe and holding out for the 4 week delivery times over one of these?

Ive nothing to compare the camwipe too , just to say mine works fine without issues.

I have a 2018 Nissan leaf Tekna , I preheated the other morning as normal as it was frosty . I found myself saying to my wife that although the steering wheel and seat were toasty warm , the indicator stalk was cold 😂 . 1st world aye ?
