But with such a low starting price, has Kia cut some corners with the e-Niro, or does this EV SUV offer good value for money? Join Mat in his latest in-depth review to find out whether the e-Niro is the must-have electric SUV for 2019!

      I ordered the e-Niro (with exactly the same color and spec as in the video actually) for my wife, since she thinks the Tesla Model 3 is too futuristic and not practical enough. So there is a market place for this car, I call it "for the EV-skeptics".

      I'm still waiting for an e-car under $30,000 to compete with ordinary cars.

      @@ecurb10 In what world does a new BMW 3 series or Audi A4 cost less than a model 3 base standard battery RWD??? BMW and Audi MILKS their fuckin options so bad the car is twice as expensive when u have fitted it with shit that they should come standard with. While the model 3 actually comes with equipment that u expect in a base car in 2020, tesla also depreciate half of what Audi and BMW does, buy a new audi or BMW and theyve depreciated to 60% of their purchase price in 2 yrs................................ While with tesla that gets regualr updates that improves them dont. Its just stupid to compare german manifacturers who got such insane depreciation and that milks everything as options to a Model 3 that comes with pretty much everything as standard, people like u would bitch regardless even if tesla made a model 3 without leather seats and autopilot hardware... Tesla has done an amazing job with the model 3, and that shows with their sales, in norway in march, 40% of all new cars sold was a tesla model 3... tesla has freightned Mercedes and VW so much they cooperated on making an article full of fake and biased information showing how the "model 3 was worse for the enviornment than a new diesel car".

    A few additions (some might not be true for UK niro’s):
    - You can actually brake the niro to standstill using the generators by holding the left paddle on the wheel.
    - 12v sockets in the back are optional, so is the LED-pack (interior lighting and headlights) and cooled front seats and heated rear seats.
    - In the future, there will be a short-range version and the infotainment screen will be upgraded and enlarged to 10.5”.
    - If you turn off TC, you can do a burnout to over 30mph
    (I work at a KIA dealership in europe)

      Any possibility of a 4WD version? The pretty respectable power and torque the car has will be wasted going through an open differential to the front wheels on the greasy uneven roads I'm used to.

    • @davisbradford7438
      @davisbradford7438 5 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      @The Legend of Texas so, I design and fabricate electric and hybrid drive trains for industrial agriculture equipment. Based on my experience different systems require different PPM plans and various types of labor. A direct drive electric drivetrain requires much less upkeep than an ICE with all the turbopumps and massive hydraulic support systems. However the flip side is that more battery and power quality upkeep is required. Stripping apart a john deer 4955's engine block and subsystems for maintenance every couple years is a huge pain. The transmission typically need replacement parts and the amount of crap on the inside of everything is a nightmare to clean. With electric motors they typically just need a bearing replacement after a decade or two and there is no need for a 20 speed transmission as power output is all software. Not all modern vehicles are designed to fail, it's just difficult for something not to when there are hundreds of moving parts. I agree that quality has diminished with some auto manufacturers for some of their vehicle lines; but, a couple poor experiences shouldn't cloud expectations for all.

    I have to disagree on the best way to charge EVs. DC fast charging is for longer journies and emergency charges. Normally you want to charge at home in the evening and at night when the car is sitting unused in your driveway, even with less than 10 kW. You easily recharge a day's worth of driving and in the morning it's back full in the morning. Pure fast chargning is a great way to overpay for electricity and degrade your battery faster...

      @@Sto79Be Good question! The answer is close to what you guessed - spectral distribution and flicker. Incandescent bulbs have a more even distribution of light wavelength output, whereas LEDs usually have a spike in the shorter-wavelength blue band and not much turquoise/teal or red. Cool colour temperature LEDs also have higher blue output relative to yellow and green. Most, not all but most, LEDs also flicker due to pulse width modulation, PWM, control, whereas incandescent bulbs, run on car DC circuitry, don't flicker. So incandescent bulbs are usually better for your eyes, more colour accurate and imho just nicer

    "100000 miles will take over 7 years with all that charging". Couldn't be more wrong.
    Unlike the ICE version, you "fill up" at home when you're asleep.
    No wasting time going to a petrol station for fuel!

    • @sntfrancisco31
      @sntfrancisco31 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Stimpy&Ren even if thats true, which it isnt... You then would be sacrificing never again wasting time in a gas station (5 mins per fill-up over a year + wasted miles going to the gas station) for an inconvenience that will happen mayyyyybe once a year.

    • @sntfrancisco31
      @sntfrancisco31 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Stimpy&Ren how often do you get out of the city u live in?
      Also, "if you forget" sounds like a you problem... I could say the same about forgetting to fill up the tank at some point... Since it happens so much more frequently.

    • @sntfrancisco31
      @sntfrancisco31 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Stimpy&Ren you are in a very niche market of people that use more than 200 miles a day then... At which point i would recommend your employer to pay for the car you drive on, cuz it seems to be so essenfial for whatever work you do.
      In reality a charge cycle for an electric car is roughly 2 hours and not 10 and you do it at home. For most people with homes is barely an inconvenience.
      We are obviously not there yet where chargind is available to people without homes or apartments . But we will get there. And when we do... I guarantre you most peolme are not going to drive 200 miles daily like you do, so electric cars you can charge at home will be the better option for that market.

    • @sntfrancisco31
      @sntfrancisco31 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Stimpy&Ren forgetting something you should do would also be your fault, not the devices.... Thats like saying "the gps for a phone is useless because if i forget to charge my phone i have to wait up to 20 mins to charge the phone back up and im going to be late" - just charge ur shit and that wont happen

    • @sntfrancisco31
      @sntfrancisco31 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Stimpy&Reni am happy your employer does that for you! Though that doesn't make you any less niche. It is a fact most people dont have to drive more than maybe 35 miles a day. Also, You can always "forget" your charging cable and waste another 5 minutes going back home and getting it.
      Actually, if u ever forget your keys at a vacation then the car is useless. If you forget your keys at work your house is useless. Gotta go drive back and forth that hour each way to have access at a house.
      That's why "forget". Is a stupid non-argument/deflection. I can keep telling you how things become useless when we forget x or y all day.

    Matt didn't understand charging back then. Yes, it takes over 20 hours to charge from empty to 100% on a 3 pin plug, but what he didn't take into account is that most users just plug in at home, charge from 60% to 80% overnight, and wake up to 200 Miles of range every morning, for a few pence.
    Unless you have a tank of Petrol at home then you simply don't have that convenience of filling up while you're asleep.

And I like that it is able to regen all the way to a full stop but I really dislike that you have to hold a pad with your hand to do it every time - because the good thing about regen to full stop is one-pedal driving, and with this it becomes pedal+pad driving.

    Always did think it was odd it had filament bulbs inside as well as halogens on the front. You’d think it being an electric car it’d be LEDs throughout to save on power. Not to mention they’re much better headlights.
    The Kona EV has LED headlights as well, strange the Kia doesn’t. It also has a few extras as well the Kia lacks like cooled seats.
