@The Legend of Texas do you have anything else less boring than all the other options out there? If it's ICE then it's already a boring ancient technology. Now wood gas is cool. ;)
@The Legend of Texas so, I design and fabricate electric and hybrid drive trains for industrial agriculture equipment. Based on my experience different systems require different PPM plans and various types of labor. A direct drive electric drivetrain requires much less upkeep than an ICE with all the turbopumps and massive hydraulic support systems. However the flip side is that more battery and power quality upkeep is required. Stripping apart a john deer 4955's engine block and subsystems for maintenance every couple years is a huge pain. The transmission typically need replacement parts and the amount of crap on the inside of everything is a nightmare to clean. Not all modern vehicles are designed to fail, it's just difficult for something not to when there are hundreds of moving parts. I agree that quality has diminished with some auto manufacturers for some of their vehicle lines; but, a couple poor experiences shouldn't cloud expectations for all.
I have to disagree on the best way to charge EVs. DC fast charging is for longer journies and emergency charges. Normally you want to charge at home in the evening and at night when the car is sitting unused in your driveway, even with less than 10 kW. You easily recharge a day's worth of driving and in the morning it's back full in the morning. Pure fast chargning is a great way to overpay for electricity and degrade your battery faster...
Unless you need to drive more than 150km a day, slow charging over night is perfectly fine, no need for an expensive fast charger unless your daily commute is longer than that.
I do a 130 km commute - total - every day all motorway (130 km/h). I use about 40% of the battery and charge overnight at home. We have done a few long trips and as long as you plan in a decent break in the middle of the day - an hour for lunch - there’s no problem.

In person, I find the Niro's looks a bit dull, but for packaging practicality I'd choose it over the Tesla hands down. I like the hatch and the traditional dash. I've also never pinched to zoom a navi while driving.
@The Legend of Texas funny electrical problems are mostly associated with 80s and 90s cars. Why do you think your saying its trash? Its a past saying not a future one.
The Legend of Texas I agree with Texan Let’s bring back steam powered cars, you are half way there. Your glorious leader just reopened bunch of closed down coal mines.
@Stimpy&Ren maybe for now, batteries are still not reliable, but there is a research on a new batteries which is called solid state batteries, which provides 10x effecient than regular Li - on batteries. Phones, cars, and every other electronic industries are investing on this research, the only one going against and spreading black propaganda are those greedy oil companies.
For the tech you get, range and electric performance, this is crazy value for money! I can't believe it comes with autopilot too, this is amazing. Kia leading the way to budget friendly and practical electric cars.
We have one in NZ. Love it. We run out and need a stop long before it runs out, so long trips are not a problem. Seldom let it get below 20% charged. And we charge from our solar panels when at home. Driving around on sunshine is a VERY good feeling! We like it's practicality, and it is by far the zippiest car I've ever owned. So if you can afford one, go for it!
You can not buy this car in the UK 18 month waiting list. Great car to buy. Not enough batteries to make the cars. If you could buy this car, it's the electric car to buy.
Have now driven 850 km since february. Best car I’ve ever owned. Top spec model in Sweden with deadspot warning, ventilated seats, sunroof, full led, ambient lighting etc.
Ryan Kingston but...if you are spending 35k of your own money on a car that is based on a budget crossover, you might feel a bit short changed. I think the reason why they generally try to make them different with higher specs is to make you feel you are paying for more than just a big battery on wheels.
varies country, or trim. i have fully loaded "niro ev" in korea, also have vented seat in front, and rear 220v socket or more, but no rain sensing wiper
I drive a Yaris Hybrid and I'm over the moon with fuel economy, the silence in town and the almost instant torque. I can't even imagine what a purely electric car will be like, but I want one!!!
I bought this as my first car this year, an unused 2021 model, and I am loving it. Comfortable, excellent range (and keeping its range), and it suits all my needs. Kia gets a 10/10 from me on this one.
@Chewbacca even Mercedes Benz used to have a boxy A class, BMW a horrible looking 2 series, Audi with a disgraceful A2. Kia is on it's way to catch up with those brands. They might never be Rolls Royce but no one can ever be Rolls Royce. Even Bentley tries but can never match the superiority of the spirit of ecstasy
Chewbacca well yeh they have the k900 in us and Asian markets. The cadenza is a good 5 series competition. The stinger is a good a5/s5 competitor. Top model sorentos are good x5 competitors. The new telluride can easily compete with the q7. I think they are doing well tbh
If you come to Europe and tell anyone that kia is competing with Audi, mercedes, or BMW they'll laugh at you. And I'm including kia officials as well. Kia is competing with Vw, kia is not and doesn't want to be a premium brand.
TR Aviation I think they compete in overlapping markets. I.e. the SUV and I can tell you, since I’m an ex salesman that people did cross shop with bmw Audi and often chose the kia for what it offers. You can’t deny that do compete but they are not gunning after their customers, but I do think some are distracted, especially those looking for cheaper a3s q3s and a4s
Please don't ever say DC fast charging is the BEST way to charge your car. Wrong. Best and the correct way to charge your car is daily... or nightly. When you sleep. At 3 up to 7kW rate.
I test drove several compact crossovers past several days and decided on Niro lxs today, it felt roomy inside and the ride was satisfactory plus the warranty is better then the rest not to mention upfront and future gas $$ savings, it was a no brainer choice.
My taxi in Oslo. Starts with 500 km every morning. Love it. You can zoom the map with one of «wheels» (dont know the english name) beside the Nav button.
Just picked up my e-niro yesterday. Something not mentioned is the airco airflow in the front seats and heating in all seats. As for comparison to a model 3. I personally think they are very different cars. This is so much more a family car. But if you like to buy into the Tesla cult and go for maximum performance, you'd favour the latter.
Just received our Kia Optima PHEV and am blown away by the refinement and quality levels. Highly complex engineering is hidden by total ease and usability. Thoroughly enjoying my first week of hybrid motoring.

May I suggest that you update the eNiro review, possibly doing a long term review or an 'Is the eNiro still worth buying in 2024', I have a 71 reg 4+. YES there are FOUR levels of e Niro now with huge number of improvements over the single version 2018 model in your review, e:g:- BTH mirrors dip on reverse, to name but one. For it's time a brilliant review as usual. BTQ+W last summer (hot weather) I was getting 313 miles per 100% charge. January (cold weather) 24 charge to 90% I get 254 miles.
@@bingobongo1615 The vertical vent thing is more copying Ford that Toyota... Kia's interiors seem to take a lot of design cues from Ford for some reason.
"100000 miles will take over 7 years with all that charging". Couldn't be more wrong. Unlike the ICE version, you "fill up" at home when you're asleep. No wasting time going to a petrol station for fuel!
@Stimpy&Ren even if thats true, which it isnt... You then would be sacrificing never again wasting time in a gas station (5 mins per fill-up over a year + wasted miles going to the gas station) for an inconvenience that will happen mayyyyybe once a year.
@Stimpy&Ren how often do you get out of the city u live in? Also, "if you forget" sounds like a you problem... I could say the same about forgetting to fill up the tank at some point... Since it happens so much more frequently.
@Stimpy&Ren you are in a very niche market of people that use more than 200 miles a day then... At which point i would recommend your employer to pay for the car you drive on, cuz it seems to be so essenfial for whatever work you do. In reality a charge cycle for an electric car is roughly 2 hours and not 10 and you do it at home. For most people with homes is barely an inconvenience. We are obviously not there yet where chargind is available to people without homes or apartments . But we will get there. And when we do... I guarantre you most peolme are not going to drive 200 miles daily like you do, so electric cars you can charge at home will be the better option for that market.
@Stimpy&Ren forgetting something you should do would also be your fault, not the devices.... Thats like saying "the gps for a phone is useless because if i forget to charge my phone i have to wait up to 20 mins to charge the phone back up and im going to be late" - just charge ur shit and that wont happen
@Stimpy&Reni am happy your employer does that for you! Though that doesn't make you any less niche. It is a fact most people dont have to drive more than maybe 35 miles a day. Also, You can always "forget" your charging cable and waste another 5 minutes going back home and getting it. Actually, if u ever forget your keys at a vacation then the car is useless. If you forget your keys at work your house is useless. Gotta go drive back and forth that hour each way to have access at a house. That's why "forget". Is a stupid non-argument/deflection. I can keep telling you how things become useless when we forget x or y all day.
The mirrors do tilt down if you set the selection button to either L or R and not middle position, then the car will put both mirrors downwards when put in reverse.
Not having a trailer hitch was a dealerbreaker for my parents. They only need to carry two bicycles on the back, but Kia decided to not even give you the option of having a trailer hitch because it drains too much battery. I think adults can decide themselves if they want to sacrifice range for the sake of carrying bicyles on the back. You can get a hitch with the Soul EV, but not with the e-Niro. They have exactly the same powertrain, so what's the matter. You can even get hitches for the Renault Twizy and Zoe.
Great video but small point: This is not the 2020 model, its the 2019 model. The 2020 model has some minor differences and a major one: 3 phase speed charging. Also you state that it only comes in one edition: fully loaded, but there is an executive edition and a dynamic line if i recall?
I have just rejected one after 3 weeks of ownership. It broke down twice with the same faults. The second breakdown was only a couple of days after getting the car back from kia after 10 days. To be fair to Kia and the dealership they have been spot on and very understanding and equal as frustrated as us. They have offered to swap the car for a new one and lucky for them my wife is happy to give them another go as personally I'd walk away from kia for good and ev's for another couple of years. I understand this kind of thing happens to all cars from time to time but when it happens to you its hard not to be impacted by it. We'll get the second one in a few weeks and hopefully everything will be alright, as it is a fun drive when it works. Just wanted to post here as I watched every TH-cam video there is and read every Facebook post and lots of online forums and never seen or heard anything like this. Not the eutopia I was expecting and so far my worst car ever hopefully I have a different tune after a few thousand trouble free miles on a new one.
Drove one on a test drive today. It is seriously quick pulling away from a standstill. It is near silent when cruising along, save for a bit of road noise from the tyres. The only sound I heard from the motor is a gentle hum when slowing to a standstill or slowly pulling away. However I do have a few minor gripes though: The steering has an obvious 'dead centre' feel going in a straight line. The rotary gear selector is a bit fiddly; I would have preferred a standard lever. There seems to be far too many buttons for the aircon/infotainment system and on the steering wheel. The ridiculous 'Windows XP' style noises when you start it up and turn it off and the overbearing wealth of information displayed on its screens. It felt like driving a laptop at times. Having said those, I would probably buy one when they start to come more mainstream, more affordable and its time to change my existing car when it eventually starts to conk out.
My friend recently got an e-Niro and I got a test drive in it. Some extra annoyances I'd add was that backseat thigh support is still nonexistant for taller people, like it commonly is in EVs. And I like that it is able to regen all the way to a full stop but I really dislike that you have to hold a pad with your hand to do it every time - because the good thing about regen to full stop is one-pedal driving, and with this it becomes pedal+pad driving.
the critisism for charging the battery from empty to full from household plug is unnecessary - very few if nobody will do that. Everyone who buys this kind of vehicle will also buy and install a home charge box with 3-7 kW of power. Plus, charging from empty to full is a misnomer from fossil vehicle days - EVs are mostly charged to cover the daily consumption, which in most cases is less than 100km.
Thank you. Also, you mostly charge over night and for that even the household plug is enough for 95% of people if one night gives you >100 miles range.
I love how Kia keep all the buttons and controls left hand drive oriented 😂 Volume knob, left side, drive modes, left side Really trying to save the most on these
It’s rather odd how Kia uses different sub brands from HARMAN international in different markets. In the US, their premium systems were branded Infinity until 2016ish and they switched to Harman/Kardon to appear more upscale, despite being the same thing. Now in Europe this Niro has the JBL brand. Odd to me. But they’re probably all exactly the same as Harman owns Infinity, H/K, JBL, and more.
I think its pretty easy to be negative with things like the infotainment system and old style interior bulbs etc however what you need to remember is, the amount of standard kit is huge with these. In some cases way more than much more expensive cars in the electric field. That, the amount of range this model has along with how much you save in cost compared to the e Niro's rivals, you have to be fair Kia have came along and shown all the big players that it can be done and done well for a reasonable price. They have nailed this car, for the market its intended, everyday family life.
@carwow: One of Kia's big selling points is, obviously, their 7 year warranty. However, I have read online that if scrutinized, the warranty text exempts a lot of parts from the warranty meaning that, in the end, perhaps Kia's warranty isn't really worth that much in real life? What is anyone's experiences on this? I'm Danish and here Toyota's only come with a 3 year and 62,000 miles warranty. On the other hand though, Toyota is perhaps better known for supporting you even out of warranty if you've had the car serviced by them throughout its lifespan? I'm really considering the Corolla Touring Sports 1.8 hybrid as my next car and currently have the Auris TS. I will be buying new and keeping the car for a minimum of 8 years. I test drove the Corolla 1.8 TS and loved it. Which do you think is the better brand? Kia or Toyota when it comes to repairs, warranty repairs, repairs out of warranty, trust and reassurance? Thanks,
I will Go Electric when they can travel 500 miles on one charge, my family is 475 miles from me and I don’t like stopping especially for 90 minutes on a 5/6 hour journey, it’s not a bad looking car, I like the fact it looks like a “normal” car!
@@AnselmYuven01 not in the boot, batteries are under the cabin: that is why it has bigger boot than the normal Niro. In Norway they have even a lowered boot floor so you can fit more than 500 liters in it (there is a video from Björn Nyland where he shows this).

No, no.. just quietly, before the mass PANIC sets in.. Buy the Bikes you always wanted, because people, being what they are and more importantly, what they are/have been conditioned to, will jump ship and those bikes will become available, and Governments will still have to provide an amount Petrol/Diesel fuels for the forseeable future. For myself, there are a number of pre and just post- war Triumphs tucked up in my garage. A true delight. And they will only go, when I go. I trust you will all forgive, if this has been a tad long-winded. Regards all. WF
12:24 people aren’t using the full range of the battery in a day so they aren’t charging from 0%. Slow charging is perfectly fine to top up your commuting range overnight.
Thanks Matt. We have quite a bit of info on the Kia e-Niro UK Interest FB group that may help viewers further. On the downside, its missing LED headlights , high beam assist, and has to be plugged in to pre-heat or cool, no phone app, no blind spot, although the rear leg room appears to be good, your thighs are not supported and knees are up in the air.. this is not so comfortable on a long run. On the plus side, it has a very compact 10.6 turning circle (1.39m narrower than i-pace), fantastic rotary gear selector, great to see you doing the U-turn to demo the turning circle, the range is fantastic. At 33k its value but would have perhaps been better at 36k with more options included like the Kona Premium SE. Finally I would add that Kia don't seem to listen to feedback from us here.. They don't understand that EV buyers in the UK include many retired and demanding professionals that want the choice of a fully loaded EV...
I’m surprised at the price tag. Was expecting 50k to 65k. I love Kia Niro and I’m sure I’ll love the e-Niro. Great review. Bit harsh on plastics but I expect that 😂 and for this car and it’s price I’m not bothered by the scratchy bits.

@The Legend of Texas funny electrical problems are mostly associated with 80s and 90s cars. Why do you think your saying its trash? Its a past saying not a future one.
@The Legend of Texas lol. Stay in the stoneage bud

Let’s bring back steam powered cars, you are half way there.
@Stimpy&Ren or maybe he is just driving the speed limit and everyone else is doing 15mph over
The mirrors tilt down automatically in reverse if tip the R\L mirror switch.
I used that feature on a 2012 Jetta
For the tech you get, range and electric performance, this is crazy value for money! I can't believe it comes with autopilot too, this is amazing. Kia leading the way to budget friendly and practical electric cars.
We have one in NZ. Love it. We run out and need a stop long before it runs out, so long trips are not a problem.
Seldom let it get below 20% charged. And we charge from our solar panels when at home. Driving around on sunshine is a VERY good feeling! We like it's practicality, and it is by far the zippiest car I've ever owned. So if you can afford one, go for it!
Do you still have it?. I’m in NZ also, thinking about getting one as the prices are coming down a lot.
You mentioned this is like a normal car... That's exactly the reason why I WOULD buy this. Compare that look to the '15 leaf!
Good review too
You can not buy this car in the UK 18 month waiting list.
😂😂 sorry. 8500.

Ryan Kingston but...if you are spending 35k of your own money on a car that is based on a budget crossover, you might feel a bit short changed. I think the reason why they generally try to make them different with higher specs is to make you feel you are paying for more than just a big battery on wheels.
The design is not the best but practicality is THE best.
There is a possibilty to get a 230V Socket in the back of the car. I have bought an e-Niro with that feature last week.
Sadly not in the UK.
Paul Mansfield Oh my go... Than we have a lot of luck in Germany with the e-Niro. We also have three trim-levels, Edition 7, Vision und Spirit.

Kia is actually becoming a luxury brand. Love their recent ranges
K900 and stinger 😍
I think for it's price, it is the best buy at the moment. If you can get one. It seems KIA wasn't prepared for such a success.
Please don't ever say DC fast charging is the BEST way to charge your car. Wrong. Best and the correct way to charge your car is daily... or nightly. When you sleep. At 3 up to 7kW rate.
And you rarely charge from empty to 100%. I've had an EV for four years now and never done that.
I test drove several compact crossovers past several days and decided on Niro lxs today, it felt roomy inside and the ride was satisfactory plus the warranty is better then the rest not to mention upfront and future gas $$ savings, it was a no brainer choice.

Just picked up my e-niro yesterday. Something not mentioned is the airco airflow in the front seats and heating in all seats. As for comparison to a model 3.
January (cold weather) 24 charge to 90% I get 254 miles.
the fact that the A/C controls and the sat-nav controls aren't alligned drives me insane
Interior is really bad. Like an early 2000 toyota.
@@bingobongo1615 The vertical vent thing is more copying Ford that Toyota... Kia's interiors seem to take a lot of design cues from Ford for some reason.
Vents are also not symmetrical :(
Vertical ones are cool, eg. in Skoda Kodiaq, that allows the satnav to be high without sticking out.
This is NOT the facelift 2020 model.
Most importantly, the 2020 has an improved infotainment including Kia Connect.
Frunks are available.
Looks a very sensible choice if an EV suits you but not really keen on the styling I must admit.
I like the bicycle that fits into the car. That did it for me, I'm buying one !
I understand you’re trying to make it easier by using the 5L water bottle for trunk capacity. But at least tell us the volume in liters as well.
+1
Trunk capacity is 451L, 1405L maximum with seats down. This is taken from the official Kia leaflet they email you if you request a test drive.
Damn, pullin out the stick of truth right out the gate!
Great video but small point: This is not the 2020 model, its the 2019 model. The 2020 model has some minor differences and a major one: 3 phase speed charging. Also you state that it only comes in one edition: fully loaded, but there is an executive edition and a dynamic line if i recall?
this is the car I've been waiting for.

He mentioned the ipace
Around 4:20 the 2nd USB is charge only which is why it is behind a cover
8:23 - I wonder what the REAL reason the e-Niro doesn’t have a 12V socket in the boot like the normal Niro is?
I'm sorry to say that, but placing a charging cable under the boot floor is quite stupid.
2:50 loooool Matt are you alright, getting in touch with your youth 😂😂😂
YOUFF**
Drove one on a test drive today. It is seriously quick pulling away from a standstill. It is near silent when cruising along, save for a bit of road noise from the tyres. The only sound I heard from the motor is a gentle hum when slowing to a standstill or slowly pulling away. However I do have a few minor gripes though:
The steering has an obvious 'dead centre' feel going in a straight line.
You can shortlist it and that's it, the car is so popular that there's a 1 year wait.
@Jade Kilgallon There is a 1 year waiting list also in the UK, I just tried to buy one today.

Meanwhile Doug DeMuro: It’s a hatchback.
the critisism for charging the battery from empty to full from household plug is unnecessary - very few if nobody will do that.
Yes! Please show what you've caught on dashcam! :D
I second that motion!
Don’t worry about the brake noise at slow speed. My Lexus RX does that and the dealer can’t cure it, couldn’t cure it on my IS either.
The headlights kinda look like they are getting pulled back LOL !
Looks like Jeep Cherokee
A another great review from Matt!
I love how Kia keep all the buttons and controls left hand drive oriented 😂
Volume knob, left side, drive modes, left side
Really trying to save the most on these
It’s rather odd how Kia uses different sub brands from HARMAN international in different markets.
Why does Matt seem to think charging on fast will be the best, charging at home might take 10 his on a home pod charger, but I'll be asleep!
@The Legend of Texas what tank?
2:42 8-way electrical adjustment for the driver's Cee't
They need to make a super hot hatch version called the *Haba-Niro*
I think its pretty easy to be negative with things like the infotainment system and old style interior bulbs etc however what you need to remember is, the amount of standard kit is huge with these. In some cases way more than much more expensive cars in the electric field. That, the amount of range this model has along with how much you save in cost compared to the e Niro's rivals, you have to be fair Kia have came along and shown all the big players that it can be done and done well for a reasonable price. They have nailed this car, for the market its intended, everyday family life.
This is the 2019 kia e-niro, not 2020
Needs an update for the 2021 car.
The load cover gag gets me everytime 😂😂😂😂
Tuggin like that.. maybe u mean torque steer
