Crooked believes that we need a better conversation about politics, culture, and the world around us-one that doesn’t just focus on what’s broken, but what we can do to fix it. At a time when it’s increasingly easy to feel cynical or hopeless, former Obama staffers Jon Favreau, Jon Lovett, and Tommy Vietor have created a place where people can have sane conversations that inform, entertain, and inspire action. In 2017 they started Crooked with Pod Save America-a no-bullshit conversation about politics. Since then, we continue to add shows, voices, and opportunities for activism, because it’s up to all of us to do our part to build a better world. That’s it. End of mission.

Which failed Trump Businesses did we leave off this list?
He didn't even seem to make money off of the Grand Hyatt. Started with $140m in loans. $65m in further loans. Did one of his fake accusation lawsuits, that got thrown out. Got countersued, for being incompetent and insolvent. Finally sold for the same amount as his initial loans.
Trump Hyatt: "Ultimately, Trump received $140 million in long-term financing and short-term loans for the Hyatt Regency's renovation.[214][215]"
"Several of Trump's companies were struggling financially by 1990, and he considered selling his stake in the Grand Hyatt to pay off outstanding debt.[255][256] That June, Trump offered his stake in the Grand Hyatt as collateral for a $65 million syndicated loan from several banks.[257] At the time, the hotel had a relatively high net operating income of $15.7 million; real-estate experts estimated that Trump's stake was worth between $157 million and $186 million.[258] By the following year, Trump was negotiating to sell most of his stake in the Grand Hyatt to one of his lenders, Bankers Trust.[259][260]"
"Trump and Hyatt's partnership deteriorated during the early 1990s.[261] Trump sued several members of the Pritzker family in 1993, accusing them of racketeering; he sought full control of the hotel and $500 million in damages.[262][263] Trump claimed that Hyatt wanted to force him out of the partnership because their agreement prevented the chain from operating other Hyatt-branded convention hotels in New York City.[262][264] Due to a non-compete clause, Hyatt could not advertise the nearby UN Plaza Hotel as being part of the chain.[265] Hyatt also wished to renovate the hotel for $35.7 million, funded equally by Trump and the Pritzkers, so the Grand Hyatt could "remain competitive" with other hotels.[266][267] Trump initially agreed to pay for his half of the renovation,[268] but he later reneged, claiming the repairs were too extravagant. When the Pritzkers opened arbitration proceedings to force Trump to pay for the renovations, the New York Supreme Court's Appellate Division granted a stay of proceedings in late 1993, blocking the arbitration proceedings.[266][267]"
"The Pritzkers countersued in March 1994, alleging that Trump had violated their partnership by failing to remain solvent, using his share as collateral for loans, and refusing to fund his portion of the renovation.[268][269] The Pritzkers also sued Bankers Trust and Chemical Bank, claiming that Trump had diluted the partnership by conveying his financial interest to his lenders while retaining veto power.[268][270] Trump and the Pritzkers agreed to a settlement in mid-1995,[261] and Trump and Hyatt announced in March 1996 that they would renovate the hotel for $25 million.[271][272]"
"The Pritzkers bought Trump's share in the hotel for $140 million in October 1996,[276][277]"
Trump University!
It is not true that the USFL received $1. The judgement was for $1, but under antitrust laws it was tripled to a whopping $3.

How could Trump University not be on this list?
I know i kinda wanted to hear about that
Was it because it was the only one he settled out of court?
Was wondering the same, that was one of his biggest scams aside from scamming millions into his political support.
Because he’s been failing so hard for so long that it’s hard to keep track.
It might not have been a failure; it's possible that he grifted more than tthe fine.
The rule book is 12 pages long but the only way to win "Trump the game" is too break all the rules then claim the game is rigged after you've flipped the table.

Great Job Brian and Pod Save America!! We the literate people that actually care to read knew most of this but this was a GREAT summary.
Brian just so you know when you did the piece on playing the Trump game, that was an effin riot! Keep up the awesome work Brian. It's people like you and David Pacman and TYT many people around the world are more protected from the yellow journalism of the 1890s. When in doubt default to reason and logic. Works every time.
I am.proud to admit I never once watched The Apprentice!!
I did one time and thought This is rubbish!
WWE should have revoked his WWE Hall of Fame honor or at least not given him one at all.
The only good thing he did was dump real $100.00 bills down on the fans when he was the guest host for one episode.
I watched the first season and they edited it very smartly to make it seem he was making wise decisions, when in fact he was a disaster.
Even as a kid in the 80s the scammy, fake, gilded tackiness of Trump was plainly apparent to me, reading the headlines of National Enquirer or People magazine in the checkout line as I followed my mom around the grocery store.
How anyone has been fooled into trusting or voting for him remains a total mystery.
Same!
Same here ... and I grew up in Europe! where he never was one of the "famous" ...
Take care - Europe 🌷
Yes. I remember visiting Trump Tower in the late 80’s as a teen, and found it incredibly tacky and ugly! 🤮 we didn’t bump into fat orange man though. I guess he wasn’t so fat or orange back then.
People were fooled, because trump is the anti-christ
Anyone who lived in New York State, even upstate like me, were exposed to Trump back in the day. I thought he was a creepy weirdo back then so when he rose up politically it was appalling. I mean, look at his HAIR people!!
I love to say that Donald is such a crummy businessman (or brazen tax cheat) that only he could fail to sell meat and booze to Americans.
Not to mention football. And gambling, I didn't think it was possible to bankrupt a casino before this cheap, stupid clown got involved.
And football
@@flor9389 Right! If Donald was _competent,_ he would be a legitimate billionaire because meat, booze, and football is how you get a branded tailgating empire.
Not to mention bankrupting casinos. Casinos are practically money printing businesses.
Good point. But ridiculously overpriced substandard meat and booze? That’s where he lost us.
Definitely a ‘to be continued’ show. .. Excellent job! - I LOVE IT!

Gotta give it to Brian-choosing the Generals was brilliant and the ruination of the entire league hilarious.
And if that alone doesn’t do it the casinos pinch it.
Simply staggering that someone who has so many failures is still so popular. Shocking. Great podcast gentlemen.
It must be extremely hard to run a business without paying your bills
his presidency was the biggest disaster. I got to go with Brian this week, that first pick was a wild one but nailed it
I gotta give this one to Brian. The Taj Mahal is the Golden Snitch here, because it boggles my mind that a casino could go bankrupt. Casinos were basically designed by the mob as a form of legal extortion. Since they couldn't just take money from people at gunpoint anymore, they forced them to play a hand of poker they knew they would lose to get around the legal definition of robbery. It's one of the few businesses where people pour in money by the truckload and expect no goods or services in exchange. To bankrupt a business model that lopsided in your favor is like setting water on fire or losing a race against a rock, it shouldn't be possible.
Yes! The house always wins… unless it’s Trump’s casino. I read that he bought another casino near Taj for some reason so his own casinos were competing for business! It was a race to the bottom I guess.
Casinos cost a lot of money to build and a lot of money to operate. When you finance a billion dollar casino at 18%, you need to profit a half a million a day to just service the debt. Then if everyone involved is taking a little extra off the top, you got an even bigger hill to climb.
When you skim off the top and don’t pay the contractors that built it!
This quickly became surreal and hugely amusing! Thanks for this! I chuckled and chuckled.
You didn’t mention : The Plaza hotel. He bought it at the top of the market and wound up selling it at a loss.
He also had a line of clothes around the time of the apprentice.
There was also “Trump water “.
There was also a “Trump magazine “ that lasted about 4 issues.
ESPN’s 30 for 30 did an episode on the USFL in its first season and everyone trashes Trump for destroying the league. They blame him almost entirely for it. It’s amazing. Very worth watching
It was a great 30 for 30. Trump basically grifts his way through life.
Yep, I immediately thought of that 30 for 30 doc., called "Small Potatoes" if I remember correctly.
Yup watched it
I haven't watched that episode yet, but I have watched a bit of a few other episodes, so I would expect 30 for 30 to be very thorough.
That last part with Brian playing the Trump game was absolutely hilarious. Thanks guys for a good laugh!
The pain as it escalated was everything
The kill-me-now look on Brian's face was priceless!!!
I need to see more of the punishments for losing these ranking videos. That was side-splitting! I laughed so loud the dog woke up and woofed at me.
The sad, blank look was so real! What a punishment!
Thank You for curing My Holiday Blues!
Thank you Brian✨🇺🇸✨💙✨
"The shuttle business is pretty good." Dump finds a way to turn that into a failure. Casinos basically print their own money, yet Dump somehow failed here not just once but 3 times (the Plaza, the Taj Mahal, the World's Fair) and it's not because of the area as 5 casinos built before the Plaza are still operating there. I worked at a casino in the count room and the first day we counted $12 million in cash alone so to lose money owning a casino is mind blowing.
Trump never had any intention of the Taj making money. There was never anyway that it could make enough money to pay off its billion dollar debt finance with junk bonds at 18%. It was a money laundering operation from the bottom to the top. He skimmed as much money out of the place he could before it went bankrupt, then he refinanced it and bankrupted it again.
Wow. I’m sure Trump would rather we not talk about how much of a serial loser he really is. His fragile ego would be shattered 😂
Those gold toilets ain't cheap!!!@😅
Go Sharks! Hopefully they can succeed in Slackin' for Macklin this year!
Maybe there were too many big winners and too few surveillance cameras watching the gaming tables.
Oh my God!
I never knew he had made all these businesses that failed.
I guess I was living under a rock all these years.
Because I had no idea how bad he was at business dealing.
I feel sorry for all those who made business deals with Trump.
LOL, if you didn’t know he had these businesses, then I’ll also add that while building these businesses (the Casinos, the Golf Clubs, and others) he FREQUENTLY didn’t bother to pay the contractors that did the work. Small and local construction companies that were never paid untold millions of dollars, just because he didn’t want to pay. The caterer that did his second wedding to Marla Maples did not get paid, when confronted he told her that the publicity of catering Donald Trumps wedding was payment enough.
And this speaks volumes about the US media! When a Democrat has even the slightest issue, the US main stream media goes on and on about it (swfitboating anyone?). To be fair 'Last week tonight with John Oliver' covered a good amount of this in 2016.
Feel sorry for all the people he never paid for their labor.
The Trump Game clip at the end beats both of you! 🤣 🤣 🤣
Never saw the apprentice- I am happy to say !
I love these Brian vs. Tommy episodes! Informative and funny. Trump is/was a bigger failure than I thought.
Trump has literally been failing for decades. He’s banking on younger people and the maga morons not remembering all his bankruptcies and business failures.
Is/was/has been/will always be
Wow! You didn't know that he was that big of a failure? Hell Trump isn't even their real last name. It's DRUMF. His grandpappy changed it after fleeing from 🇦🇹 Austria in WWII😮😮😮
That hasn't change, he's still a loser..😂
A consistent failure in business ventures. If he hadn't succeded in assuming public office and revealed his insidious nature, he almost would have become the blueprint for a dysfunctional comedy franchise.
Brian’s existential dread at the end during gameplay was the most hilarious thing I’ve seen on the show so far 😂Love you guys for making America’s nightmare funny so we can survive a little longer 😅
I've taken LSD that had less frightening hallucinations!! 😂😂
It looks like Trump was practicing his mug shot pose all the way back then, (13:20) it's identical 😂😂

In a world full of terrifying Trump-related news, this is more lighthearted and enjoyable to watch and has the added bonus of: all these public failures probably bug Trump more than any of his current lawsuits.. and for that, I say yay for this video.

They regret it so much. They know they fooled America into thinking Trump is or was a good businessman.
you can file almost anything, but do not complain if you and your councel are punished for filing a frivolous lawsuit.

I knew he bought that USFL team, but I NEVER knew that his antics subsequent to that actually destroyed the entire league! That is so brilliant and in line with all his other business ventures. I grew up in NY and always knew he was a clown. His base real estate is quite good and he did manage good moves in the real estate focus (albeit sometimes with dubious financial arrangements and leverage), but EVERYTHING else that he touched was a failure. I mean, how in the world does a casino go bankrupt, the entire business model is based around taking customer money with a built in unfair advantage.
I think casinos go bankrupt to launder money.

All together, ha had three failed casinos. How can you lose a casino?
He told the NFL commissioner he could make the other league go away if he let him buy an NFL team. Commissioner told him when he’ll freezes over . So Trump actually tried to double cross his league, failed in cohesion to buy an NFL and crashed his league. What a prick
As someone who watched The Apprentice when it came out (me and my best friend and my mom liked it because the challenges were mostly crafty or interesting) I always want to point out that donald trump is barely in the show at all! usually it would be one of his kids giving the contestants the challenge at the beginning of the show and at the end, trump himself was on screen for five minutes to make the decision about who to 'fire'. he was barely in the show! and everyone watching and participating could tell that he was a slimy piece of shit from the beginning, that wasn't a secret
Yeah! I watched it a bunch too back then. Lol.
Yep. My family and another family got together every week to watch it!
Counterpoint: in the pilot of Studio 60, in a monologue a character complains that we’re having contests to see who can act the most like Trump, and like Sorkin’s other poorly received show The Newsroom, despite its shortcomings ended up being wildly prescient
I enjoyed the show but it was the contestants and the challenges. He was just like the host. You could tell after the first season they did not really "win" anything. But the steaks was the most ridiculous thing I ever saw.
I enjoyed Celebrity Apprentice more, because the real game was the contestants trying to get a bit more spotlight (most of them being past their height of fame), while simultaneously avoiding tarnishing their reputations. You know, I could see Trump rebooting that show and making all his ex-staffers compete on it.
My first time watching you guy's love it will watch again

Oh Brother!
Good first choice, Brian! He singlehandedly destroyed the USFL through his greed. Had he never bought the Generals, the USFL may have had the staying power and could have even forced a merger with the NFL by the 1990s.
I would imagine that the level of maintenance performed on those shuttle jets was piss-poor, given that he treats everything that way.
This is an example of how his dire lack of responsibility for the consequences of his actions is dangerous to other people.
He wouldn't care one bit if the plane went down. After all, HE'D never fly in it!
Great show🎉😂
Some of these I didn’t even know about 😮
one of his worst business decisions as president was his oil deal with OPEC/Saudi Arabia. oil prices not only spiked by 50% his last 5 months in office, he also agreed to allow OPEC to keep oil production artificially low with a *2 YEAR* agreement right before leaving office. agreements like this normally only last a few months, but he gifted Saudi Arabia control over our (and others) economy knowing full well the consumption of oil would return to normal as covid vaccines were introduced. he royally screwed the US economy with the help of his pals in SA.
That depends on who is was negotiating for, right? Fees and interest on 2 billion is a pretty nice deal for Trump.
Joe Biden ultimately got blamed for it, so it didn't work out too bad for him at all.
Ty @persuasivebarrier Been trying to get magats to realize Biden didn’t cause gas hikes or global inflation. It’s mostly nothing but corporate greed. If boycotts were implemented like long ago, prices would drop dramatically.

I enjoy you guys so much. Bright, funny & correct. Gotta love it.
When they argue about how much of a genius he is, and how successful he is, ask them to name one business, he started, that has been or is successful. To my knowledge. There is none the only success I believe you could say he’s ever had was the apprentice but remember he didn’t start that and he didn’t run that
Spread the word!!
This is easily Brian’s best showing ever. Usually Tommy wins me over even when Brian picks better, but that New Jersey Generals story was next level. I rewatched that segment 3 times.
Keep in mind, The apprentice wasn't his idea. Neither was the billions in subcities he got from the people of N.Y. and elsewhere.
Thanks for the laughs 😅
I think Tommy chose the more ridiculous Trump business fails, but Brian chose the more spectacular ones.
Many years ago after the Trump divorce with Yvana my family from the South arrived. I took them all to the Plaza Hotel Palm Court after an afternoon of sight seeing. We ordered desserts and champagne I knew to be delicious as I had attended many wonderful functions before. What occurred was beautiful cakes smoothered in butter cream; but instead of butter was shortening. It was ghastly; greasy and repulsive. It made a terrible impression. The moral of this story is? If you think Yvana was any less of a scammer than her husband you'd be mistaken. Greedy grifters all.
Birds of a feather, flock together. After she accused him during their very public divorce (with ample evidence), of domestic violence and rape she all of a sudden went silent on that and was photographed with him thereafter. You don't think he just offered her some money and that was that?
Then he cheated on Ivana with Maples, and then on the current immigrant wife/anchor baby mama with a myriad of prostitutes, escorts, and porn stars.
These people are the lowest of the low.
Well done gentlemen 👏👏👏
Excellent show. Thank you
Great show! 😂. Hilarious, but terrifying.
Someone left that Trump game at my parent beach house. We were horrified. My brother decided to look inside and said, "it's just monopoly". We were so worried that someone might think we bought it that we tossed it
One of the biggliest mistakes of my life - just after Donnie became President in 2016, I saw the Trump board game in a charity shop in England for £3.50. I thought of buying it because I knew it would be valuable some day (for cringe value) but didn’t buy it. I changed my mind a few hours later and went back to buy it, but someone else had snapped it up.
Damn ... damn ..... DAMN!!!!!
Love this. 😂
Omg!!! He had a bike race???😂😂😂
Also…there was a time when Jr DIDNT drink?!🤯
Can we PLEASE make this go viral? 😂😂👏🏽👏🏽😉😁
Great show
Omg ...your puppy on your lap. ❤ that! So cute!!!
Brian wins!! Just for the NJ Generals. 😂 He killed the USFL 😢
Now that's entertainment! The hits keep on comin' and looking forward to future disasters in the court room.
Excellent!
He was going to run the country like his business, 2 sets of books, driving cost up, paying national costs on credit cards , see national debt, then paying zero on taxes, because of the loss, payments to national debt.
His biggest failure is America.
