Choosing your people based on loyalty and not merit is the entrance for incompetent decision making and dictatorship. It makes ordinary people miserable. We, here on the other side of the world, were spending most of the 20th century with such leaderships. Trust me, it sucks. I'm hungarian, I know what I'm talking about. They've been doing that for years. The only difference is now they're coming out of the closet and admitting to it, in a roundabout way... But the whole legal system and all of their legal societies have been operating in complete corruption with one another, and the worst part is that most Americans don't know that. You have to actually be put into the system to find these facts out. Edited for clarification: It appears that I should have elaborated on what I mean by "sh!t bird" (aside from the TPB reference): There are obviously glaring differences between "wings", except when it comes to the fate of humanity on a global, longer-term scale. Neither side has been willing or able to take the lead and make a genuine attempt to alter the trajectory of the sh!t-storm barreling full-speed ahead toward the collapse of civilization and all the f**kery that precedes it. I have no doubt which party would act more quickly and effectively (the one that isn't as anti-science) if/when forced to confront the threats to the fundamental goal of perpetuating the human species' existence, but it will be too little, too late; it's probably too late already. This trajectory, and the failure of both parties to publicly express concern or urgency, comprise the sh!t bird I speak of - the long-term consequences that neither side will touch with a 10-foot pole, most likely out of the fear that they'd get crucified for doing or saying anything that might negatively affect The Economy, which might piss off supporters and donors who rely upon Growth like oxygen. I know everyone doesn't agree that the situation merits an immediate concerted effort that would most likely include implementing some drastic measures; I feel that immediate and drastic actions are merited and necessary (though I don't know why I even care; I chose not to breed so I don't have that reason, and I've gotten to the acceptance stage which is much better for one's mental health; I guess that although I've basically given up after 30+ years, I still want there to be a future that's worth existing in). The indifference and refusal of both parties to address or acknowledge that infinite growth in a finite system is impossible are the primary source of my disdain. Ignoring the fact that the collapse of most earlier civilizations was due at least in part to exceeding a sustainable carrying capacity within their surroundings is also a source of frustration. The current imperative is to overfeed the consumption machine, and to disregard the non-sustainability of perpetual increases in population and per capita consumption that are a cornerstone of most economic systems that equate growth to progress. I am aware that population growth is predicted to fall below replacement level, but not before we reach an estimated 10 billion, expected to occur during the 2080's, a 25% increase over the current population of 8.1 billion within 60-ish years. I remain skeptical that a 25% increase in water usage, food production, power use, trash, housing, transportation, etc. can be supported. I have doubts that 8.1 billion humans can be supported for much longer. Let's Explore Bird Anatomy! Birds have external bilateral symmetry except for wing and tail feathers, and do not have internal symmetry, so birds are not homogeneous on the inside and the wings themselves typically have asymmetrical flight feathers. These biological characteristics serve as a metaphor for the inherent differences between parties, and the bird itself represents the combined collective indifference described in the preceding paragraphs. Final thought: It's interesting that although I was not clear in the original post below (which does merit criticism esp. when taken at face value & without context), a couple reactions were closer to what I'd expect from the right wing, and maybe the repliers do in fact identify with that wing, but for demonstration purposes, we'll assume they lean to the left. It just seems antithetical to the perception that the left wing is less dictatorship-friendly, and supporters are more likely to be tolerant and just not as big of assholes overall. I'm not butthurt ("So why are you replying, huh? You must care a lot, don't lie and say that you don't, or else!" lol), but good grief, they ain't the best choices for brand ambassadors. The winner is a tie between (1) condescending and vaguely threatening, a la "Do what I say or you'll be sorry. Also I stalked your channel so I could add a more personal touch", and (2) the timeless classic - "just shut up". More entries may be submitted, so it's still anyone's game. I'm so curious if/how those replies would differ if it wasn't obvious that I'm probably not a dude. It seems unlikely that a dude would be instructed to "Stop trying to be an edgelord, [username]...think of the bigger picture if you want to keep enjoying your [hobby or interest indicated on username's channel]!". Do guys speak to other guys with whom they disagree in a manner similar to how a parent would speak to a defiant child? *not trying to kink-shame anyone who's into 'daddy disciplines a naughty child' type of role-play (between consenting adults, of course). Again, sounds more like what one would expect from the sh!t bird's right flappy-flap appendage. OP (in response to the parent comment, "I'm finding it harder and harder these days to tell myself everything is going to be okay."): "It's not going to be OK regardless of which ideology "wins". Two wings of the same shit-bird." Well, that's the last time I attempt to make a short comment. Rather, I will accept and embrace my propensity for super long sh!t-comments such as the edited version of this one.

You should read the book the fifth risk by Michael Lewis about the Obama Trump transition. There are several private weather companies that were opening lobbying the trump campaign to abolish any federal or state funding for anything related so they could dominated the market. Not only that but The current American weather surveillance is so good. It actually gives most countries plenty of information about that are local weather systems. That would all disappear. As with most idiots, they don’t want to know about anything that might upset their feelings unless it’s happening right in front of their face, and they are always surprised and annoyed that they never knew ahead of time.

Saying they plan to defund schools with mandatory vaccines is how they plan on getting voters to have their own kid's public schools shut down. Not even Dr. Strange could have predicted this. But if Chump returns, you can bet your last Vibranium slug that Mike Judge's "Idiocracy" will become a reality.
It's not though? It's the same thing repeated over and over again. Humans actually aren't that complex or profound. Will happen now, it will get better, it will happen again, it will get better. Nothing really changes - we are all here for a short amount of time and humans are very forgetful.
People who couldn't predict this aren't paying attention. It means you're buying whatever BS your political party is selling. Dems could win in a blowout but would rather gamble with us and our children's lives in order to keep their lobbyists happy. You can whine all about Republicans but they don't decide how dems run their campaigns and party. Everyone in dem leadership will be fine if biden loses. Their kids will still have healthcare and great educational opportunities. The legality of abortion never stopped a wealthy person from getting one before. We are the ones that pay. Republicans aren't bowing out. They aren't going away. So this idea that we can't hold dems accountable because Republicans exist is ridiculous. Not only that, but studies show that vote shaming is incredibly ineffective. Republicans aren't standing in our way. It's democrats and their bootlickers. Dems would trade happily trade 10 progressive votes for just one of those sweet, sweet moderate votes because they won't rock the donor boat. We suffer the consequences.
They are trying to get rid of the checks and balances so they can do what ever they want. And there are way too many people who support what they are trying to do. If Trump wins, we are well on our way to an authoritarian nightmare.

At this point I think it's fair to say that enabling totalitarian dictatorship IS the bipartisan position. Taylor-Green writes "say hi to mommy and daddy in H377, little Rasid" on a missile, Dark Brandon mails it to Benny, and Based Comrade Stein gets assaulted by a brick in a police uniform for standing with her fellow Americans in protest of what Benny does with it.
I think not creating a totalitarian dictatorship HAS BECOME a bipartisan issue. We must pray that the Republican ranks that see it this way swell in number. From the great number of TH-cam Short Videos I've seen of lifelong Republicans who voted Trump earlier who now declare against him, the vast majority of these are down with the urgency of voting Biden, save Paul Ryan. Hopefully by November even Paul will come around. Of course, simply not voting for Trump without voting for Biden is not the more effective course of action. Side note to Oliver and Co, pretty sure when Kissinger and Nixon met over Detente with the CCP leadership in the 1970s, they gushed over a perceived outcome of the Cultural Revolution that they really admired--the gutting of Chinese Civil Service (the nation from which Civil Service was first originated and practiced). Rumor has it they told their counterparts they aspired to follow suit. Had Nixon survived Watergate, there very well may have been a Project 1977 back in the day. Look it up?
As a government employee, I find this terrifying. We're already in a staffing crisis because they arent backfilling jobs. There's barely any continuity. And then project 2025 hits? All federal services could crumble and fall apart.
Biden vax and mask mandates are the only reason govt is short staffed. You can’t tell everyone they will be fired on Christmas and expect them to ever work for you again.
It's been happening. Government services have always been shit. Now it's shit along with people unwilling to work and leadership that is pathetic and in the unions pockets.
A staffing crisis, and I can't find a job? it's amazing to me how nothing makes sense anymore and nothing is logically meeting up... It's as if there's some sort of conspiracy where natural logic is being intentionally disturbed... With the capacity that Americans have in comparison to two generations ago we should be 50 times farther ahead than what my grandparents people were, however we are 50 times farther behind... That doesn't happen by accident... That has been designed and the sooner Americans wake up and smell the coffee, there may be hope that they can realign, to move forward down a better path
The "radical left" "inventing" trans people "just a few years ago" is an insult to the legacy of Magnus Hirschfeld - whose Berlin Institute for Sexology was sacked and its publications publically burned by the Nazis in 1933, partially because of the pioneer research the Institute had done in the fields of trans identities and trans rights. As a German, I take great offense at this.
And intersex people have been a biological reality of humanity since long before anyone started recording history. It's always, always, always been more than just female or male.
Trump is saying never in history has there been a push to allow children to not only want to be transgender, but get surgery/hormone blockers as well. I grew up in the 90's and as a teen there were a few gay kids, but no one was "transgender" that term wasn't introduced UNTIL A FEW YEARS AGO. So while, yes transgender people existed, the term was never used and kids weren't pushed to become transgender. Social media has made this a trend to be transgender, and some parents are pushing it for the publicity. Deny it all you want, but before TikTok 1 in a 10 million were transgender, now it's 1 in a million.
As a German trans woman, I also take offense to this and Trumps claim is also insulting to trans people themselves! Also, I fear for the lives of trans people if Trump wins and this project is implemented! And I also fear for pregnant people’s lives and their autonomy as well as for the lives of people of color and other marginalized groups.

I'm from Germany and the situation here and in Europe is also very concerning, but the in the US it's on another level. What have we come to?
That’s because they are watering down history and not teaching everything. They are trying to strip parts of history from the curriculum and it’s very damaging.
Tinder is 80% dudes. Grinder is over 90% dudes. Women aren't using any dating apps. They are using OnlyFans and aren't interested in traditional dating.
I would have thought women would be throwing themselves at them. They would be able to stay pregnant for over 20 years, and they wouldn’t have to have to go to work/have a job! They could just stay at home and have coitus regularly even when they were faking being too tired from their 16 children. Doesn’t get any better than that! Where do we sign up?
I found it hard to laugh at the humor in the wake of the election. But thankfully, John Oliver gets out the info that we really need to know. But it makes me wonder -- what will happen to shows like this? John Oliver might be happy to continue if they threaten him, but the more likely scenario is that they will threaten his family...the people in his life he loves. That seems to be the Hungarian model of overthrowing a country without firing a shot. Or they would just sue the show to death with baseless lawsuits in order to financially break it, or financially break Oliver, or both. It's not necessarily ruining your life with threats of death, but rather just ruining your life. It's unprecedented evil. And I fear it's going to get very very dark.
If you're looking at this and getting scared, then do a few things to make it less likely any of this comes to pass. Check your voter registration, make sure you're registered. German here, and I can only say: same. Although I had a great history teacher who really analysed with us kids how it all could happen, I never truly understood how the people could be so blind and cruel. Now that we see it happen again in real time, I guess the mystery is being solved: Because humanity is just like that. Most people cannot, or do not want to, deal with complex problems. They want easy solutions and if someone is promising them that just by virtue of their skin colour or faith or whatever other arbitrary reason they will be the absolute winners and more important than anyone else, they'll blindly follow that person/party. And if that person/party tells them that others are vermin and don't deserve to live, they will cheer them on. I always believed that knowing what happened under Hitler, what is happening everywhere around the world in dictatorships would make sure something like that would never happen again. Well, I was wrong. Those who lived through the terrors are mostly dead now, the knowledge of their pain is being actively forgotten and the terror is being embraced once more.

I guess in November democracy dies slowly in the US. I hope that people in the EU will stand together, but I fear this disease of populist far-right pseudo-conservatism will split the EU into many impotent small countries. Exactly what Russia, China and the US of Trumpistan wants.
And it's a fu****g suicide. I mean, you want to ban abortion and raise the birthrate? It's fascist but you at least have a point, there's a need for more births (which can be done through immigration btw). But schedule F has no point, they will condamn the land to inefficiency and slowly to it's total failure. Btw, awesome that this wants to be done by the same people who forgot to hire a staff for that. I mean, they already showed they're not capable, but still they want even more responsability. 😂

You're really unironocally believing this blatant propaganda? Mein Kampf was about hating Jews and blaming them for all of society's problems. The Republican party is one of the most pro-semitic non-Jewish organizations on the planet.
Funny that the DNC can't stop thinking about socialism. There was another guy who liked it also, the founder and leader of the National Socialist German Workers Party.
Also an urge to vote for Biden as the only person with a realistic chance of stopping this happening by being elected. No-one else will has been near Trump's numbers for the past few years and it isn't changing. Trump hopes Democrats will vote for a third party because that wins him the election.
Americans didn't heed the warning, and now they'll all suffer. My deepest condolences to everyone who voted for Harris who will now undergo an aggressive move toward Christofascism.
Y'know... I just decided I'm finally going to force myself to read that book. Two immediate things cropped up. First: published in 1925. So 'Project 1925' if you will.... Secondly: the long title the book originally had translates to "Four and a half years of Struggle against Lies, Stupidity and Cowardice". His publisher Max Amann suggested he shorten it to "My Struggle". But it really is a copy/paste of Trump banging on about his 'unfair trials' every time the justice system tries to stop him.
OP (in response to the parent comment, "I'm finding it harder and harder these days to tell myself everything is going to be okay."):
"It's not going to be OK regardless of which ideology "wins". Two wings of the same shit-bird."

Liberals are 100% fine with a totalitarian dictatorship. So long as it's their dictator.

The fuck you on?😂
And intersex people have been a biological reality of humanity since long before anyone started recording history.

Coming back to this video to remember exactly how fucked we are
On the plus side John Oliver's next video should be great.
@@503leafy - And likely depressing

Beautifully put!

I just realised thanks to this comment. America celebrates the day revolutionaries stuck it to the King, and Britain celebrates the day a revolutionary was arrested. Beautiful.
Very apt observation.
GOP unironically writing a "Mein Kampf" is insane, but not surprising.
You're really unironocally believing this blatant propaganda? Mein Kampf was about hating Jews and blaming them for all of society's problems. The Republican party is one of the most pro-semitic non-Jewish organizations on the planet.
actually its a total joke. Grüße aus Deutschland.
Sounds like 1933 again but this time in the US.
Funny that the DNC can't stop thinking about socialism. There was another guy who liked it also, the founder and leader of the National Socialist German Workers Party.
Trump has read the original so many times, and now he's desperate for the next book in the series.
Never felt such a powerful combination of "urge to laugh" and "urge to vomit".

Same!

I tried man.
Here in Austria, in history class, we learn that nobody took Mein Kampf seriously either…
Except for the people who looked at it and said “Finally, a candidate who talks about the _real_ issues!”
I haven't even downloaded the book yet but the vibe that history is repeating itself is scaring the bejesus out of me.
