- So far I am VERY happy with this one. It actually flies really well, the barometer actually works and does it's job well, and the camera quality it really good...BUT there is some jello so the props need balanced and the arming/disarming procedure is just unacceptable. It is very easy to just drop out of the sky trying to descend, which is shown in the video... Stay tuned for the review!

Hey thanks for the review and your unfortunate disarming. I have recently purchased the same x8hg and had the same problem 3 times with the disarming!. I actually lost 1 blade but was much lower than you was. I thought I might have bought a faulty quadcopter, until I came across your clip, and actually didn't feel confident to fly it, at height anyway. So now I know what the problem is. I shall be more careful!. Saying that, it still is a cool quad. Thanks again for sharing.
Yeah, I might try and make something to go over the stick to prevent it from going that low. If only I had a 3D printer...

Thanks for this. Now I know why mine suddenly dropped (not quite from) the sky. It was on concrete, but was around 4 feet in the air, I think. I thought I might have somehow disarmed it by winding up with both sticks down and to the center, but now I know because it was because of throttle down problem. Fortunately the quad survived, albeit with a few scratches.
Yeah, I an not looking forward to testing it more really :(

I've opened up the camera on this and behold, there's a little button on the back which takes a photo when pressed and video when held for 2 sec. It also works off any 5v source like a power bank. There is some + and - pads on the PCB too so I would assume a 3.7v lipo would power it. It could technically be a standalone camera with a few mods.:-)

why did it drop down like that? is it because you lost connection or because you pushed the down button to descend? if its the button then how do you come down from that height?
As explained in the video....I held the throttle all the way down to descend and it un armed it. There is no down button.
Nice review ! I've probably seen a dozen videos on this quad, and yours is the ONLY one to mention the dreaded stick down disarm and crash flaw ! I got my X8HG free. A friend dropped his 50 ft onto the concrete, broke all four landing gear legs and camera in little pieces...then said I could have the damn thing. I'm not spending much on it for batteries etc because I can't trust it. It bit me once when picking it up : ( All I did was bump the throttle while leaning over !
Thanks. I think part of the problem may be due to sub par gimbals, giving different readouts, so even though I am not physically all the way down, it is reading a very low value perhaps? Even if they were spot on it still is not a good idea in an y way.
I bought the same Syma X8G and latter I bought remote but now the problem is that Quadcopter and remote both lights are blinking but doesn't connect each other to fly the plane. Any solution?
It could be possible that they changed protocols and you got one of each. I really don't know :(

Any generic gopro style camera should fit in the mount, but it's going to be heavier.

For the price seth its not a bad quad....but the shut off is shite wish these people who design these would learn. What protocol is it on would you know do you think a hobby grade transmitter would work on it ?
Yeah, for the price of only $105 right now, I think it really is incredible, as even something like a SJ500X is $130! Now I know this is not nearly as good of footage, but to be able to get a large flying platform in the air as well?!? Dang. Now to switch and balance the props and get some shots to see what I can make it do :D
Did you find a way to reconfigure the shutdown ?
I don't really think there is a possible way, unless you REALLY know your way around electronics and coding. Just have to be really easy on the throttle coming down.

As I say, it needs power from the usb port. So unless you have a mobile battery that you can plug the camera into no.

They should stay on the quad.

You could probably replace the camera with that, but would be heavier.

i crashed my syma x8w into a fence and it didn't break ANYTHING. and the wind really slammed it. i also lost signal and it dropped about 130 feet in the air and i caught it at about 40 ft and it hit pretty hard still
Yeah, it is decently durable. Luckily the props auto rotate enough to slow it down on free fall.

If it is puffing up that is not good, and you need to keep a close eye on it. If it continues to get worse you will have to dispose of it. They do that if you mistreat them such as super high charges, dischargers, or not keeping them at a storage voltage level.
You can squeeze it
These batteries are dangerous so if you see any deformation/expanding of it - immediately stop charging and recycle it in your nearest recycling unit.

It means no matter which way the front is facing it out still control the same as if it was pointing forwards, but it never works and just ends up hurting your more than it helps so don't use it.
They give you extra pins. Great review by the way. To the point. I just bought this drone, and I'm enjoying it.

I can't do a specific range test video for every quad no, I would have 5 videos per day. The range is about 100m, sorry.

Yeah, I meant that my email guy will ask for a yes before sending a new item out. I don't have to ask. It takes a long time to establish a relationship though, as they are looking for promotion on your end.

Technically yes, but it will never work (anyone who says otherwise is trying to sell it) and no wifi on the cam.

Samuel Rea Unless the quad has GPS there is no return to home, so don't use that as something you want. It is fake and just to get people to buy it. Also wifi fpv is going to be very short range and laggy, so kind of pointless. This stand alone version (X8G) is the best out of all of them IMO as it has a decent camera

When you buy things from gearbest and bangood (or others) there is a moments box while you are checking out, and you can ask for the adapter for your country there and they should include it in your order for free.

The props have to go on the correct motor so they spin the right way. If you side isn't lifting up the props are the wrong ones.

It comes storeaged with 3.8v per cell which is good. You need to charge it.

Nice unboxing and review. Dont agree with your verdict of the altitude hold on this machine though. According to me its actually the best implemented altitude hold I´ve seen in any toygrade-quad up to date, and it definately dont need a on/off switch. I had no problem what so ever to get the quad down in hard wind, land is problematic though. And thats only if you close to the ground. The wind can tip it over. But if thats a problem, catch it. Mine has never shut off in mid-air because of pulling down the stick the whole way down, but to be honest, you dont really need to pull the throttle stick down that long.
For me this quad actually has the only altitude hold that works without flaws. The only one, not in need of an on/off switch. And to be honest, sometimes it feels like its no altitude hold at all. I notice it if I let go of the throttle stick. But never got it to shut off like yours did. But a tip, you can pull the stick almost all way down, it will still descend fast as hell. But as always a great review. :-)

Jerry Berglund It is just too unsafe. Just any tap on the stick and then it's spinning and might hurt someone or the motors. And if you aren't paying close attention to you throttle, have it all the way down...better hope it autorotates.
Sure that might be true, but never happend to me though. :-) Never armed it by misstake, so I am lucky I guess. :-)
It is just something to watch out for. I have armed and disarmed it a number of times without thinking but it still is an awesome machine. The Syma X5c actually gave me the worst prop bite when accidently armed and there is not a lot said about that quads abilities.
You definitely need to recalibrate your gyros after a crash like that.....Yeah, you have to be careful not to hold that throttle down for too long or it will shut down motors in midflight....cheers
I only had it down for half a second. Unacceptable.
If you keep the throttle above two cells on the transmitter when coming down it will not shut_off.
If you find a decent way to balance these horrible fitting props i'd love to know. It's perfect for giving people their first taste of FPV with some 5.8ghz gear on it but really woudl benefit from balanced blades.

I couldn't fly with that motor cut off issue,happened to me 3 times! So I put a x8g pcb into mine. The altitude hold isn't worth it when you risk crashing every flight. Seriously bad design
It was such a good quad, if only the designers would actually fly it :(

I also have an x8 and that motor cut function is a real pain in the ass.

I just came home from flying. Broke a Dal 5045bn prop. My first one and 1 bend.
Flying in between threes and hid some of them.
Going to edit the video's and post them on TH-cam tonight or tomorrow.

Hopefully feathering the down throttle will avoid the issue.
