Low and high just has to do with response of the stick very sensitive when it is in high that is the mode I like to fly with so I have to press the upper left button once connected to switch to high

I attached the center conductor of the antenna jack to the connection point on the top of the board and the shield of the antenna to the lower point closer to the main board
right idea those two pieces that are soldered to the board on the transmitter if made shorter will increase your range and clarifity. Its a touchy job less is more I did same thing with a Circular wireless 5 turn helical and I get side reception. Try it.
I was told that the antenna needs to be perpendicular to the drone (not having the antenna pointed at the device) because the radio transmits at the highest concentration from the sides

is your antenna sign on your Transmitter flashing ?? when yes ist on low range mode to unlock it hold up/pitch turn Transmitter on and one time throttle up down ... without drone only the Transmitter must be on
also go to ALiexpress and order the spare part board for the newest Syma x8Hw which has altitude hold replace the board and get the new transmitter with return on the throttle and you got a phantom killer sort of

why have you taken the second antenna down there? in other videos only removed one and welded together at that point and give tin on the other that is free (ground)
Actual range is over 300 meters, at leat my Syma x8c. I guess they mention 100 meters to be in the safe side. I guess they target beginners even though I don't recommend this for beginners due to the weight.
How did you test your range with it? Did you fly until it loose control? What happened when you did? Crash? I'm gonna do this mod myself but am abit afraid to "test" it to see the range incase I crash and destroys my drone so would be interesting to know what would happen if I fly too far away. Thanks

I completed that mod myself. I routed my antenna through the small post. Anyway, did you know that you placed the antenna in the wrong direction. The radial signal is stronger when placed in the horizontal position, not in the vertical position. Just thought you should know... checkout painless 360 antenna videos.
I'm looking for a quad. Any thoughts on the X8C vs the X8W? I noticed you weren't using the onboard camera anyway. I think the C is slightly less expensive for the same basic build.
Hi, Miles When I turn on my transmitter the blue light in the Center is flashing once I throttle up and throttle down it binds or connects with the drone then the antenna signal strength on the LCD screen starts flashing. That is how IT has always functioned even prior to doing any antenna upgrade
Willie493 while turning on the transmitter, hold the right forward trim switch to the forward position. that will turn off the low trasmission strength and give you full power.
Friend if I installed 2 antennas to the control will not happen anything bad, would it work well? I want to put 2 antennas so my control will be more elegant

Very nice mod. You might also consider making a parabolic reflector booster for even more range. Do some research on Windsurfer antenna...can be made for almost nothing and is a proven design theory.

if a football field is 300 feet then I'm guessing at least a thousand feet is the distance away I have floan without any loss of reception. now I'm only counting horizontal distance that's not taking into account the vertical height. like I said I'm going to physically measure and get a more precise distance

I recently bought this same drone and I would like to make the same antenna modification you did. I've found several antenna's all the way from 3dbi to 10dbi. Which dbi would you recommend?
I know this is a little old now but just for future reference, the higher the gain, the more directional the antenna starts to get also. I wouldn't personally go over 5dBi gain antenna but if you do, you'll need to point the controller at the drone more because of that. I have put a 5dBi antenna on my controller and a 3dBi antenna on the quad itself. I tried a longer 5dBi one like you have in the video but it's weight alone was 24g, which combined with the extended landing legs and FPV setup, weighed it down too much. I switched out with a smaller 3dBi antenna that weighed less than half the other one and it flies better and still has excellent range. I've easily hit well over 200m with it. I am confident it would go further, and with my 600mW VTX I'll have video feed much further than even that lol. Great video man!
Strange, I've seen others get over 250m with the same setup. You must've gotten a defective transmitter. But a range mod is cheap anyways so it didn't hurt too much :-).
RbG84 your antenna does not provide the power. The transmitter provides the power. It's like talking a large speaker from a concert and connecting it to the headphone jack of your cellphone. Electrically it would work but you don't have enough power and their would be no benefit .
Hi trevorcarterva, I have not tried a Parabolic antenna .I believe the transmit power of the radio plays the biggest role in the distance. Does anyone knows the Transmit power of the Syma 2.4ghz remote ? My guess is less than 1/2 watt.
I've seen another video for the X8C where the guy modified the antenna without soldering. He wrapped the existing antenna wire with another wire, making it 12.5 cm long. I'm wondering if you could do the same with the X8G. The only difference is, of course, is that you have two antenna wires. Would you have to extend both antennas to 12.5 cms or just the one?

If you want to really extend the range, perform the same mod to the quadcopter itself. Placing the antenna beneath the drone makes a big difference.

Not sure I understand the question. Seems like it goes 2 to 3 times farther than before the antenna upgrade

I did it, now is working the control and the drone, I'll go out tomorrow for testing the range of distance, i'm so excited for this

Willie493 if this hasnt already been covered,the flashing indicated low signal.power mode and restricts you to about 50meters.

Hi RbG84, your right, you would need ab amp. Your transmitter power (measured in watts) would need to be higher

I can fly over 300 meters without any modification. I guess you need to mod syma x5c. Syma x8c doesn't require any modification.
