Nice vid! I just strapped a GPS logger on mine to test maximum vertical range. Base elevation of 3040ft (920m) above sea level and I took it up to 4450ft (1350m) elevation according to the log. The video shows it looking down on a lake that sits at 4080ft (1240m) elevation, so a nice flight it was. It could probably gone higher, but it was just a tiny spec at that altitude, so I didn't want to lose it, even though I have a Drone Finder on it (audible type). I removed the legs for the altitude test, and ran a 10gram SQ9 camera instead of the SJ4000.
This was way up in the mountains, so away from basically everything, and no flight paths, etc.
Impressive quad. Shot some very nice video (on seperate flights) with the SJ4000 cam, with just a $3 anti vibration mount.

Word of caution!!! The 8mp camera that comes with the x8g is only good on this quadcopter and draws power from it. If you want a 1080p camera, the xiaomi yi or sj4000 equivalent stand alone go pro clone is more useful :)

I believe the fpv system for the x5c is a stand alone capable of attaching it to other quads :)
Thanks for the test. I got mine out to about 350 meters before I lost signal. No telling how high she would go. Makes you wonder what a range mod might do even though line of sight is very difficult at that distance alone. (I forgot to say mine is the X8C and I use a Runcam for video.)

I did take my x5c modded transmitter that works with the x8w that day as you see in the video and I was going to do it with the modded transmitter as well but 396 meters with the factory transmitter was more than I expected so I didn't but maybe another test with an altimeter strapped on it with the modded transmitter...... :P

well,it will not always be 394 feet range,because it depemds on the weather conditions too,dont forget this,in a sunny clear day with minimum moisture and fog,you can reach that,but in a more cloudy-foggy day,it will be less

You should make a range test on the Syma x8g
Santiago Ramirez they are all the same quad (x8) the alphabet indicates the use of it
It can go even further! Your reception signal is flashing so not at maximum antenna power. Hold the right trim button (next to power) up and while holding turn on transmtter now signal thing isn't flashing now go see how far she will go! I think it's is done so they can sell anywhere as some countries have strict rules

Very helpful ! Also I'm not sure if anyone has pointed it out but you can view the FPV through more than one device ! I have my phone on the transmitter and tablet for whomever to also view good perk ! I haven't tested how many devices you can log on to it's wifi at once yet...... ???!!??!?

If this is your very first drone you are about to purchase, I would recommend you get something a little smaller to learn to fly such as the x5c for this x8w is pretty big and the yaw on this thing is really slow and hard to get out of a jam in tight places and will cause a lot of damage to it or something else in the fall. check out the nihui toys u807 also.
I was going to do an altitude altimeter test with this one too but the rebinding is not immediate at times and from that kind of height I am afraid it will fall straight to the ground and break apart.....
+RC Escape Well, i finally got the JJRC H20) , after 1 week of practice on it, i decided to pick up the Cheerson CX-20, all is fine smooth control and autonomy. For those are looking for a first quad, definitely look for smth small whatever it is..., you just need to get used of flight control through the transmitter.
Good luck finding one if these old birds They're all very vintage. I been collecting. I think the X8HG is the top of the pile!! Dandahermit

I use an X8C transmitter with my X5C-1. It goes so far that I lose sight of the quadcopter before it gets out of range!
I did the same thing with my X5sw. Amazing range when used with the X8C transmitter

I used to put a keychain camera in those days using rubber bands but now a days, I use double sided tape and just stick 'em :)
Some people use similar material like tape or string so to protect the camera when landing in bushes or tall grass :)
Can you do the same test with the x8 pro
I wish every review had this range test. I have wasted money thinking I was getting a great deal only to find out the range is 50 feet.

Ronald Boutan the is a low range mode on this quad for some reason but their is no mentioning of it in the manual for some reason. search on TH-cam syma x8 low range mode. the video I watched should come up then. the video i watched was uploaded by Steve Haresign and he explains what to do hope I helped!!!!!

RC Escape What glue did you use to glue your prop guard? I tried Gorilla glue on my X8w and H98 quads and it doesn't bond. I did this test on my X8W when it was brand new without the camera attached and got about 568 feet. Thanks!

When you say it drops to the ground when out of transmitter range, is this a controlled descent at all or does it actually cut power to the motors?
It was clearly a "crash" landing on your video.
It is not a controlled landing once it is disconnected and will go down on its own and crash land....
Are you using the hg tx?? I figure. And the all in one Xtx?
Can you help me? I got this quad and then it was fine for the first month or so, and then I try to fly it. Here's the problem, the throttle stick, when you turn it, the whole drone turns, but when I use it, it doesn't turn, instead, the actual turning stick turns the drone. So it basically cant turn. It can only go up and the turn the whole drone.
looks like you got the modes mixed. hold the trim button below the right stick and turn on the remote. this will change mode 1 to mode 2

i seen that video thanx for the link. what do you mean goin after conection failure?? is that wear it wants to kinda turn off for a sec while flying then fo back at it before it hits the grond?
The x8 quad just falls to the ground when it disconnects from the tx but the x5c keeps flying in the direction of the last input when the connection with the tx is lost so a horizontal test may have false distance and can cause a fly away.

RCescape, I like it, but my question is how do I set my remote control back to mode number one, I cant read the Chinese writing manual that came with it, for some reason I don't know how it jumped to number two mode, I'm just starting to learn it in number one mode ,I was almost good but , somehow I accidentally switched it, heeeelp anyone?

Very professional video, thanks for the test. Is it normal the blinking on your controller? I add 3 falls already and the last time it's fall about 25 or 30 feet up and down it came, only the camera suffer damage. I was woundring if the blinking as something to do with it. Thanks!

range is greatly reduced when using the fpv function. Both are running on 2.4ghz and the range is reduced to about 70meters

Are you talking about the black syma x5c transmitter?
If so, I took it that day and was going to do two tests. One with the stock x8c tx and one with the x5c modified tx but ended up doing just one test because I was satisfied with the test results :)

Haha! Yep, I still have them :) I changed the battery connectors to xt60 but I need some newer batts. That's an old video. I still remember the walk!

With the wifi camera on, about 7 -8 minutes. The RTH function is a return to the compass take off direction and not a GPS return to take off position....

he has to be useing a frequency exstender or something to that efect because iv lost two symna quadracopters after they lost signal after 25 ft high they took off then fell out of the sky about 200 yrds away.i alsao didnt have that safistacated of remote ,mine was the basic kind you receive with veresion 1-2 &3
I don't think he is using any extender. He used the x8hg remote, a stock remote just as same as this one but with altitude hold, on the x8sc and got more than 400 meters.

Gunner Gama I have the x8HG, it get good range. I have flown it high at line of sight until it was a little dot in the sky. As you know that quad isn’t small, so that say a lot about how high it will go. Never lost control of the quad. It will go higher and farther than the company that make say they will . Under rated for sure! 😎👍🏽

The transmitter is a left hand throttle and it is slightly above half throttle to control the height and the right is the pitch and it is full pitch to maximize speed :)

My control for the x8w was set to limit transmission range so make sure to change that. If when you put your controller on an the range symbol on the top left blinks then you're in low range mode. Check "Steve Haresign" on how to change it.

300 meters is plenty good enough for me and with the micro vtx at 200 meters range max, that is very comfortable :)
Are you going to modify the receiver for more range? if so make another video of how much distance it is after the mod
I don't think any more distance is really necessary. The quad is not very visible for line of sight flight enjoyment somewhere around 250 meters away....and at 400 meters, it is just a dot. More than enough range for me :)

on dirait qu'ils doivent avoir soudé sur les mauvaises pistes ... ou parlez-vous du mode 2 mode 1? puis, éteignez la télécommande et le rallumer avec la garniture latérale poussé sur le côté.
j'ai un soucis avec la télécommande de mon drone x8w quand je veut aller a gauche sur ma télécommande il va a droite et pareil pour l'autre sens.... aidée moi merci et comment fait ton pour le mode Headless
Why not turn quadcopter on low and walk away from controller holding copter? It will stop when you reach the maximum range without a crash scenario.

My Syma x8w is still in the box, never open it, I bought it two months ago, but still in the box like new, just keep it for a couple month untill I get Sj4000 camera!!

Did you try de distance with the wifi camera, i mean watching what the quad is doing , i saw in other videos that the quad with wifi lose signal in about 25 to 50 meters with wifi on

RC Escape I am thinking about something - it will be good to have 'fail safe' and 'rth' function in the case of similar situations. Okay, big DIY and other manufactured quadcopters has that, but also 'toy grade' quads - too bad that this option is not implemented. Thank you for your answer. Hey . What exactly does rhe WIFI signal of FPV connect to? Is it only connected to MY house wifi signal? or just a wifi signal that is in the air around the area i live?

+xXStorm ChasersxX The WiFi in the X8C looks like any WiFi router or hotspot to your phone. You connect to it by picking the "router" called "FPV_WIFIxxx" (or similar) in your phone's WiFi settings, then start the Syma app. It's very straightforward.

yes, i believe it interferes with the remote controls signal but with the wifi fpv transmission is only 100 meters so anything after that is unusable but yes i should have at least tested it out...

it is about 100 meters.
there is a slight delay in the video transmission and like most wifi fpv, the farther you go the greater the delay.
