Flying RC, when I first got mine it would not hold it's altitude and I had to basically fight with the sellers to convince them that it was the quadcopter. They did not believe that and I never could return it because ebay ruled in their favor, so I had to rebuild the quad with upper and lower bodies and flight board because it crashed the first day twice and cracked the body. But now it flies perfectly, so I do recommend this quad but as you said you have to be careful with the sticks. Very good review.
Stuff like that is also why I do not suggest buying RCs from eBay. But from a reputable seller, with at least some sort of customer support department.

This is definitely NOT a model for complete beginners. I would STRONGLY suggest he learn to fly on something smaller and safer first. This is not the kind of model you want to be crashing into stuff while you learn how to fly.

On my X8G, No. It still flies like a dream. My X8C though is struggling. I picked it up 2nd hand so I'm not really sure how much wear is on the motors, But I just placed an order for some Night Lion Motors. So we shall see how much better they claim them to be.

IF you buy an brushless upgrade kit and gimbal for this drone it totals about $275 USD, which is cheaper than most "pro drones" at a lower price and similar quality, so this is definitely affordable if you are willing to put in about half an hour of work.
SOrry that I am spamming But I just had to thank you. I really didnt know the camera was able to connect to the computer. That makes everything so much easier. And By the way, it is a 8MP camera. They are 3268x2448 pixels wich means 8MP. :-)
Can you explain more about the controller? What are we looking at on the screen? I just got a X8HG. I am in N. Phoenix and taking it out for my first flight this morning. I only have the battery that came with it and with only a 8-10 minute flight I need to test as much as I can with such little time. I will not use the camera until my extra batteries arrive. I have a Sky Hawkeye 1315S drone that I've had for over a year. Took a fall and one motor is out of commission. This X8GH looks similar in the way it is controlled like the Sky Hawkeye so I will be testing the hold altitude today. In know to fly it at low heights to get used to it. I will post about it here later when I come home. I usually fly at a park near Peoria Ave and 7th Ave

Yeah, I've heard that, but I think that pronunciation sounds silly, and maybe more like the Asian way of pronouncing it. I'm pronouncing it with an American accent, and making it sound cooler. haha :)~ Either way, I'm too used to my version, so there's no changing it at this point... force of habit.
+Paul Hoggett I doubt it. I don't know if they use the same protocol even, and the non-centering throttle would probably be problematic with the altitude-hold.
You cannot do that with this model. For that you would want the X8HW, but the camera quality is much worse with WiFi cameras, and the WiFi signal will cause radio interference. I highly suggest avoiding WiFi FPV models, especially when they are this big. The possibility of interference is just not worth it, and streaming to your phone is laggy, short-range, and low quality.
recently i realize, this stupid bad feature came with older versions i think, at now my drone shut down engine not at 2 or 3 seconds, when i pull down throttle, this shut down engines at 6 or 7 seconds, time enough to think about what to do at next moves... i dont know if some Version r made at different countries, but my drone came from Spain, i live in Mexico my friend....
Nice video... you can put a rubber tire or O ring on the throttle stick and push it down when flying so you cant stop the quad and pull it up on the stick so you can disarm motors.

Haha! I am recently recovering from laryngitis... I actually lost my voice for a while. So my throat still does some weird things when I talk (well, it's better now... this video was filmed a couple weeks ago).
I have been searching for days, but I can't find the connector type of those batteries... Someone knows the name of this connector? (It's not HXT 3.5) so I can use a better charger. (Need the connector to banana plug or deans / t plug)
I don't remember... you'll have to refer to the manual for that. It's something like, you have to hold down a trim button while turning on the transmitter, if I recall correctly.
Some of these will actually cut motors with less than 2-3 seconds of throttle down some of the time. A friend bought one and crashed it 3 times on first day. With much more stick time, I told him I would fly it. Same thing, at times, even one second of down stick results in a power off fall. Must be inconsistencies in manufacture. Great review. Thanks
Same experience Rob. There are other users who have reported that they can bring the throttle all the way down and they don't fall out of the sky. So, who knows.

Now everywhere is like flying this tinywhoop or that quad with prop guards like the inductrix, now theres this cinewhoops and dji's fpv system. Really miss the toy grade ones hahaha.
The tinywhoop actually played a big part in me losing interest in the hobby. Drones became unoriginal so fast... everyone just kept making the same thing, and innovation died. It got really old reviewing the same sort of thing over and over again, when so little was bringing anything new to the hobby. :(
Guess Syma knew the throttle down 'problem' was gonna be a problem and made the lvc warning really long so you can at least get it down without panicking

That is something you would need to check with the airline and FAA about. I believe you can fly with LiPo batteries, but they have to be removed from the quad and packaged separately... maybe even inside a plastic bag, if I recall correctly. It's been a while since I looked into it.
No, not 1080p and FPV. Syma only has FPV with their 720p WiFi cameras. And WiFi FPV is pretty much worthless.... it is laggy, short range, and can cause signal interference with the radio control.
"Better" is relative. The X8HG has a better quality camera, but the drones themselves are the exact same. If you absolutely must have WiFi FPV though, then the X8SW is "better".
A slip of the memory there I'm sure. You meant the X8HW not the X8SW. The latter is a distinct downgrade in the X8 line. Proprietary battery and limited range transmitter ( though it can be flown with the old style transmitter) as well as the throttle down auto-crash "update" introduced with the altitude hold feature. For mine it's been all downhill for Syma since the X8G.

I have this bug. But I have never pulled the throttle-stick down all the way, and it did shut down the motors. it was at least 2mm left. I had to put tape in the way so that its impossible to pull that throttle to much down, if its not needed. According to my info it dont have 5MP.
As Felipe said, it is brushed. I am pretty sure Syma has said that they do not plan to enter the brushless market. Maybe some day they will at least create a sister brand (kind of like WLtoys has done with their XK brand) for the more high-end models.

Stay tuned for my Q303 review coming soon. ;) I would have to disagree... the Q303 is really just a novelty. It doesn't really offer any good aerial video features. It is actually more sporty than AV.
If that is true, they must've just recently changed that... the Q303 I reviewed has no altitude hold, and that was one of the main things I discredited it on.
OH WAIT, sorry, I'm talking about the Q333! Not the Q303. Sorry! Yeah, I've heard good things about the Q303. I was sent one to review, but it doesn't bind to the controller. I need to get a new battery for it, and see if that is the cause.

They are the exact same thing, except X8HG now has height-hold. So, which you prefer depends on whether or not you want height-hold.

The stock mount does not move, so you would have to find some way to mod it to make it point straight down.

I've seen some listings that say 8MP and some that say 5MP. Same thing with the X8G. I think I specified that I wasn't sure which it was in my review.

Brushed. Syma does not make any brushless models.
