Same crap happened to me on 1.5 Shogun around the time you went out. Eventually I got a hand me fish from a guy that already caught his limits. Half the fish caught were on the kite tho. I would of brought one in eventually on the kite.
On my next trip, one month later most of the boat shunked but I went 1 for 2. Go figure. You were doing everything right from what I can see from the gopro.

Went fishing with a couple of friends on the Shogun out of Fisherman's Landing. It was a 1.5 trip and bluefin or bust kind of trip. Most of the day it was super slow. We finally found a willing school at bottom of the 9th and it paid off to the tune of about 20 nice bluefin! Personally for me, though, was not a good outing. Usually when fish are willing like this school I'd get at least one. If not landed at least bitten. I couldn't even manage a bite on this trip. I must have offended the fishing god somehow. Must go sacrifice a few jigs or something. lol
The crew on the Shogun was awesome! Nate in the galley cooked up some really good grub! Still a fun trip in the end. Didn't get the kind of video footage I wanted because I didn't hook up. Oh well. Next time!
Met some great people and everybody worked together on this trip! The captain's rundown of gears and rigging is really good. Pay attention to this part if you are planning to out soon for bluefin!
    Enjoy!

That happened to me and most of my friends so not just you.... some trips that the sun and the moon don't align for us and I told myself just stay positive and enjoy the ride..... we will get revenge on next trip.... that is what I will tell myself..... Thanks for sharing quality video and honesty and all the jigging technique....

Sucks on the skunk but the weather has been kinda topsy turvy lately. I just took my 6yr old son and wife on their first family trip on Wednesday. It was "hard" and hard fishing too. The boat caught maybe 2 yellows at the end of the 3/4 day trip and mostly whitefish so it didn't produce much. It was a learning lesson for next time though. For me at least "family trips" will be strictly 1/2 days and later starts. Oh and we saw a bald eagle too... then it stole someone's fish and broke him off. Poor bird.

Christopher Martinez Great that you’re introducing your family to fishing! This wind has got to stop blowing soon then we’ll get that glassy condition we all love.
Check out the Redondo Special next time you want to take them out. They’re usually riding with light loads especially in the afternoon. Captain Morgon is great with newbies so he could help get your family up to speed. 👍

What was your jig selection for this trip what did you throw what weights what colors what models or did you only throw bait?... it's tough paying $300 for no tuna Costco has it on sale for Father's Day

    • @jigslingersfishingchannel3713
      @jigslingersfishingchannel3713  5 ปีที่แล้ว

n6yun I threw a 250g glow ff. 90% of the fish were caught on bait. Yeah it’s always tough when you skunk a trip. But eating fish is not a priority for me. I give most of mine away to friends and relatives. Thanks for the Costco heads up. I hardly ever buy fish. If I do it’s either live flounder or live catfish at the Asian supermarkets.

How light were your leader? I am scared in these scenarios lol I carry a long copolymer topshot 30# (.53mm) on circle hooks, cast livebait really far. breaks around 50#. This is my back up, as evrything I run short flouro leader, im new so wonder if it makes a difference. Booked 3 day on the pac queen october. Lets see! Still looking for a 1.5 day in July.. no bluefin for me yet. also what is your go pro mount? 😁 I just got one

Bernardo Villanueva I had 30, 40, 60 for this trip. I used about a 12ft leader. As long as your knots are good it should be fine for this grade of fish.
It’s a chest mount. Can’t wait to see your vids! 🤙

What size hook did they recommend? Even though you didn't get any bites. I still want to give it a try on a boat like that this year. Hopefully I will it will be my first time. I really like your videos and info. Thanks I'm starting to think I can give it a try and hope for the best.

ruben madrid They recommended 1/0-2/0 circle hooks. Absolutely give it a try! I caught my first bluefin on this boat in ‘97 and things haven’t changed much as far as service and knowledge. Go get some this year bro! 🤙

We went on Shogun 1.5 just couple of days before your trip. Same thing, we found a willing school wanting to die on bottom of the 9th and ended up 3 fish shy of boat limit. 60-80 pound beauties. A trip before this on Tribute, I was fishing 65#/40# set up and just could not get bit. My brother, using 50#/40# had his easy limit. So for Shogun trip i fished talica 12 with 50#/40# (Yozuri Topknot PINK!) and got my limit well before the others. Attention to detail may made the difference. Better luck next time on ever illusive BFT fishing.

That's fishing bro. I have been skunked many times on day trips in san Francisco Bay. Watched one guy on a 10 day lost like 3 yellowfin tuna. He finally caught a yellowfin tuna on the last day before we were post to leave the fishing grounds.

Don't feel bad. Many good sticks blank on these BFT trips. Need a lot of luck to get bit most of the times. You can do everything perfectly and not get a bite while a first time rental rodder will catch two or even three fish on half dead 'dines.
