I am really impressed with your tranx 500 setup. That rod absorbed all the sudden pulls of the fish putting less sudden pressure on the line and gear. Very impressive video. Going on my first 3 day trip on the royal star may 5th. Thanks for putting up this helpful video!
That is a custom 8’3” rod built by wiseguy, you can find him on Facebook. 20-60lb rating, i was told it was a phenix blank. One of my favorite rods. I won it in one of his raffles
It would be fine, pretty much anything from a 6000 diawa BG and up would do, some people say it’s easier to use spinning gear for light jigging simply just because of the style. A fiberglass rod would work wonders as well
@@mdirtbikeah I see, that is why my leader is usually really long or really short. My top shot usually about 100 to 300 feet of flouro. I never had a knot connection caught on to the guide before. By the time your jig reaches 100 feet plus spool spinning speed had decreased dramatically. I had Tranx 500 2 years ago, did not like it, sold it and went back to my old Calcutta 700CTE. Anyhow, I saw a lot of your clips, good job. I wish I can get out on the water as much as you do.
FishOrDye Bro your videos are great, always make your videos how you feel they should be made and you’ll be successful. 😎🎣 hoping to catch my first ever Tuna next week
mdirtbike what is your preferred knot for braid to mono/Floro? I’ve been using the RP Knot and FG. Recently looking into the GT knot which IGFA has rated the GT Knot as the strongest knot for braid to mono/floro at 100%
My crew and I were on this boat last week on an overnighter and this boat (captain) sucks. I’ve never been on a boat that constantly moved. Fish were jumping all around us. On one of those moves I actually had time to take a nap in the galley. They hardly trolled. They defrosted a couple of flying fish and they never used the kite set up. The bait was not cured. When we pulls up on boils they chummed conservatively. Even though I was the only one on the boat who caught fish, I was still not happy
@@tristanhunter6357 I'm thinking not (last year) as the one guy has a mask on under his chin and no one was wearing or had a mask with them a year ago. I could be wrong, but just looking at the evidence.
Deckhand style rod, but not a deckhand reel, no level winds for any salty deckhand. A deckhand knows the level winds do not cast as far(this defeating having an 8 foot rod)only put more stress on the line as it pulls drag, and has a drag not a smooth. Not to mention the level wind worm gear and gearing is just another part to break.
Glen Christenson calm your tits old timer. That first yellowtail Matt got was a rat and he threw it back. The huge majority of the yellows were in the 12-18# range.
@@tristanhunter6357 Yea the YT he yanked in the boat got it's body trashed from the landing , and he threw it back...most likely to die. Respect your catch if you plan to release it.

wonder what it be like to show up with spinning gear.
Jim Callaham it would be fine as long as it’s quality gear and not a 2 piece Walmart combo

Cool video
Sorry to see that snap off man. Good video, I enjoyed it!
Kevin 213 braid to flouro knot caught the guides, caused backlash. I usually have a shorter leader but that day it was about 15 feet

Ger rid of the level wind reel and you can cast a bait a lot further , its not that hard to learn how

Seal snack
Nothing goes to waste in the ocean
