    Had a chance to go out with a couple of buddies on the New Lo-An overnighter. The fishing has been really slow but weather was forecast to be awesome so we took a chance. True to form the fishing was slow. We saw lots of bluefin that did not want to bite. In the end we managed 6 fish total for the whole boat of 32 anglers. But that's fishing. I managed to hook a bluefin to provide a little action for the vid. lol. We also saw lots of life out there with dolphins, whales, birds etc.
    The crew of New Lo-An was first class as always! Met alot of great people on this trip! Even though the fishing was slow people still had a great time on the water. Ricky, Matt, Andrew, John and others with names that have escaped me...it was great to meet and chat with all of you. Hope to share a rail with you guys in the future!
    Enjoy the video everyone!

  • @arkster00
    @arkster00 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    What size is that Saltiga? It seems wider than the narrow version of the reel I have. I have the 35n-SJ and I had to buy the $50 clamp as well.

    • @jigslingersfishingchannel3713
      @jigslingersfishingchannel3713  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ahmer Khan Nice reel! I’m not too familiar with the Japanese versions. But if your 35n is like the US 35n then it’s a lot bigger than the reel I was using in this vid. The reel here is the US 15h version. It’s the small one. Only weighs 405g. About half the size of your jigging reel. 👍

    • @arkster00
      @arkster00 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the reply. The 35n-sj reel is the same as the US version but with a different jigging handle. Your reel while a bit smaller has more line capacity than my 35n-sj. It's adequate but I still wish it could hold more line.

    Do you have any experience with a 900L or 900Xl or 900XLH? I prefer 9' rods and I'm looking for one of the above-mentioned rods to use for 20lb bait rod

    • @jigslingersfishingchannel3713
      @jigslingersfishingchannel3713  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've used the 900L and 900XL before and they're great. I'm sure the 900XLH would be great as well. To me the XL is perfect for 15lb, XLH for 20lb, L for 25lb. Can't go wrong with any of those. 👍

    10:27 you mentioned "starting to worry about the 20lb leader breaking" Can using a higher strength leader like a 50lb affect the performance?

    • @jigslingersfishingchannel3713
      @jigslingersfishingchannel3713  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      thenatnatboy The fish were really line shy on that trip. I had to drop down to 20lb to get a bite. It was the only baitfish bft on the boat. 50lb leader would definitely be a lot better but the just weren’t biting heavier line.

    • @thenatnatboy
      @thenatnatboy 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jigslingersfishingchannel3713 hey thanks for replying.
      So what you mentioned that the tunas was eager to bite on a thinner leader line than if you were to have a heavier leader line?
      I don't have that much of an experience with tuna fishing other than it almost spooled me last time I was on a false albacore trip. I was using 80lb braided power pro and we were using croc to as lures the whole time. The crew on board was too busy fishing for themselves so I was stranded with a piece of lure and some braided main line without any monofilament for leader

    • @jigslingersfishingchannel3713
      @jigslingersfishingchannel3713  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      thenatnatboy Nice! Those things fight hard! Are you on the East Coast? The reel you used probably had insufficient line. Glad you land it tho. Tuna are a blast to catch!
      The bluefin we have out here in SoCal gets really finicky sometimes. That’s when we’ll drop down in leader size to get a bite. Sometimes it works. Other times it’s just frustration lol. Tight lines!

    • @thenatnatboy
      @thenatnatboy 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jigslingersfishingchannel3713 Now I see!
      Yes I am at the east coast.
      I didn't have much lines for that trip probably less than 80 yards after i spooled from a leftover i have laying around; which I shouldn't have done in the first place. The false albacore were a great fight. I can't wait to go back for another one but the wave was so bad for that trip even thought it was technically less than 5 miles from the shore.

    hey brotha im planning to go on a overnight trip tomorrow! my first! kinda nervous haha any advice on what setup to bring? my biggest reel is a talica 10ii. should i rent a heavier grear?

    • @jigslingersfishingchannel3713
      @jigslingersfishingchannel3713  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Khai Nguyen Nah don’t be nervous. Exciting times! What boat will you be on? If leaving from San Diego then you’ll be fishing the yellowfin, skipjack, dorado stuffs.
      No need for heavy gear. Your Talica 10 is plenty big enough as your heaviest setup. Have a 20lb setup and a 30lb setup for bait. Your Talica 10 could fish a flat fall in case you guys run into some bigger fish. Have a optional 4th setup for either poppers or colt snipers if you want to use those.
      The key will be getting the bait through the skippies to get to the yft. Have a few 1/4oz sliders or rubbercore sinkers to help you with that.
      Watch my last video on the Prowler and the vid before that on the Dominator. That is the exact type of fishing you’re in for. Fun stuffs! You’re gonna love it! Good luck and report back how you did! 👍

    • @jigslingersfishingchannel3713
      @jigslingersfishingchannel3713  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Aztec is the sister boat of the Dominator. Same layout. There are a few huge bunks. Try to get 1 of those. I was able to grabbed a big one on the Dominator. Like a king bed! lol
      40# is plenty, bro. No need for 50# or 60#. Not enough time on the overnight from SD to get to the big bf zone. You'll be fishing about 40 miles out on the yft and skippies. The fish are 90% under 20lbs. They're super fun tho! Pick a good bait...toss it out...hook a tuna...repeat! :)
