UPDATE: I do plan on making an update video on how my skin is doing. I had surgery a few weeks ago and have been dealing with complications since. It could be a couple months until everything is sorted out. Thank you to everyone who has watched so far, I did not expect this to do so well lol. Hope to be back soon! ❤

@amandanicholle Hi, I think there was a difference between the before and after. I recently started using the Clinique Acne Solutions set. I am loving the results. I had never tried it before and I'm now 46, too bad. It has cleared up my skin quite a bit.( Not the scarring so I'm looking for something for that.) Ps I heard it's best not to touch your face. It spreads the germs and agravates the pimples. I hope you will try it. I bought some for my 15 year old son and it's clearing his face too.

I relate so much to the first 5 minutes. My face seems to be getting better (whether I changed my routine or not) and I get all hopeful, and for NO reason at all, it gets even worse. Repeat. It's so comforting to see other people experiencing the same things. It impacts my self esteem on the daily and I have a hard time even leaving my apartment as well. I live with my bf and 90% of the time with bad breakouts, I find myself looking down/away to hide my acne. Even though he says he doesn't mind at all and just wants to see me, my self esteem can't handle it.

I’ve used both a retinol and retin-a. Both products not only take a long time to work but- your skin will look worse before it starts to look better. It will be sensitive, red, even dry and flaky at first but in the long run it’s worth it.

Trust me tretinoin is not that bad. I started in June and had 0 peeling, I buffered for about 2 1/2 months before using it on my bare skin and also I started incrementally so week 1 once a week, week 2 twice, week 3 three times a week, and so on a so forth, I built up my tolerance to it. I did purge but the results have been so worth it!!

You're quite beautiful regardless of the issues on your skin, and you deserve to be free of that for sure! There's quite the evident difference between the start and day 30, and I hope your skin continues to improve, as retinol does take a few months of constant use to show all of its potential. Don't give up! I hope you recover from your surgery and feel better soon 💕 Best of luck!

You are so brave and beautiful. Thank you for being so vulnerable, I got emotional watching your vid because I know what it's like to not even want to leave your house and be so self cautious and hopeless, I really feel you because I was also in that position, now I'm just working on clearing up my scars that's how I found this vid. Just know you are not alone and it will get better. Some things that helped me is giving my skin a break. I would try a new product almost weekly, my face would freak out. I think the number 1 thing that helped was avoid touching my face as much as possible and changing my pillow case once every 3 to 4 days this really helped stop new breakouts. Now I just use a basic face wash and night cream from senegence but I dont think that made the difference its just that it was very gentle. I'm just about finished and wanted to try something new so I'm thinking of giving the cerave skin care a try. I'm a bit scared tbh since this is the first time in my life that I don't break out anymore.. Have u tried any of the other cleansers or moisturizers ? Thanks again for this video, you are a sweetheart

Thank you for the kind words ❤️ I was using the Daily Moisturizing Lotion from Cerave. I felt like I might have been breaking out more when using it. I switched to one of the only fungal acne safe moisturizers from the drugstore ( not 100% sure I had fungal acne but my face would get itchy when I broke out worse ) it's the SuperHydrate Moisturizer by Elf. It's a gel consistency and my skin seems to be doing better since making the switch. Everyone's skin is different though. I hope you find one that works for you! :)

Hi. I'm 72 and have had a problem with acne off and on ever since I was 15. It cleared up remarkably when I turned 21, but then it came back with a vengeance when I turned 30. The thing that helped me more than anything was Oxy 10 max strength, with benzoyl peroxide. I don't know if you've ever tried it or not, but it worked wonders for me. I just washed my face with it once a day. But if you are going to try the product she recommended, with retinol, maybe that and Oxy 10 at the same time would be a bit much. Also, the Oxy 10 is not for scarring, but for the prevention of pimples.

Advice from someone who has taken accutane and avoided tretinoin for almost a decade (every dermatologist prescribed me the topical but I avoided because of the horror stories I heard from people about the redness, peeling and purge) I TOTALLY regret not starting sooner. Yes I had some peeling but the problem is people don’t understand that you have ease your way into it. I didn’t start seeing real results until month 4. I even was able to convince my coworker to get on the tretinoin wagon. I am 32 but look like I am 25. I was ALWAYS skeptical about tretinoin but after seeing my results, I regret not starting in my 20s. It takes time. You have to be very patient but it’s totally worth it. Ditch all these fancy over priced products that influencers and celebrities try to convince you are worth it. Simple, clean and inexpensive products will do the trick. Pay attention to the ingredients you are using and don’t stress about it. It will make it worse. Also remember that if you are suffering from acne it means your body is trying to tell you something is wrong from the inside.

Hi Amanda, I suffer from similar acne I would use so many products and it felt like forever that I would be using them from salts of acid, benzoyl peroxide etc. it would seem like it would be working my skin would be dewy, but it would only last 1-2 then I felt like my skin just died, it’s oily dry, that’s when I realized my skin barrier was destroyed and I had to fix it! I started using gentler products aveeno redness relief foaming cleanser gentle oat replaced salt six acid cleaner , hyloronic acid essence replaced toner, hyaluronic acid serum, sometimes I use a gentle glycolic acid toner combined with my essence right after the toner to gently exfoliate, I shave my face once a week or every other week, and I moisturize and use spf. I lock the moisturize in with an oil called squalane. My skin barrier has gotten better and my redness as well. Remember harsh strong ingredients are not always the best for sensitive skin which I believe you and I may have in common

I've had the best luck with switching to a very gentle cleanser, moisturizer, and toner, and using The Ordinary's granactive retinoid emulsion or a retinaldehyde twice weekly, and also using BHA twice a week. For me, less of everything made such a difference, and I'll never go without my BHA. That alone has helped more than anything. Nothing helps hormonal cystic acne for me, but for everything else, that combo works.

Tretinol can cause peeling if you use more than a pee size amount for the whole face, always use a moisturizer before or after. ALWAYS ALWAYS USE SPF 30 or higher. Avoid these areas: brows, hairline, lips, under eyes and chin are below lips. Only apply at night. If you follow these steps you should have minimal to no peeling, I’ve been using tretinol for about 2 months now and I have managed to fix and prevent dramatic peeling, hopefully that is helpful!

I know benzoyl peroxide is intense and gets a bad rap, but have you tried a lesser concentration? The PanOxyl (4% !) cream wash can be applied without friction for ~30 seconds before splashing it off with lukewarm water completely. This was the first thing that truly helped me. I actually go for about two minutes but one should ease into it. The key is that it's only 4%, cream not foaming, no friction, only 30 seconds before rinsing gently and completely. Sorry if this seems like just another "have you tried" post but I felt I should share because it saved my skin.

I understand how you feel. I used to break out with cystic acne everywhere. Face, ears, chest and back, and I've had them in my nose in my teens and 20s. In my 30s, it started to calm, a little. Late 30s I went to Accutane. It's better now but the scars left behind leaves me deflated. I can't remember a time that I had clear skin. I started breaking out around 12 or 13.

The cerave resurfacing serum is more for reducing redness and post acne marks, not so much for active acne. You might need something stronger for that like prescription Tretinoin

Yes! Acne is never as simple as “washing your face” But you have to listen to your skin some people can only use products for weeks before they see results and others have to wait 3 to 6 months. At the very least your skin should show signs of improvement after a month.
Have you tried mandelic or lactic acid? nightly or even Azelaic acid?

Typically with retinols they suggest using a pea-sized about (half a finger tip) for your whole face. Dr. Dray is a dermatologist on TH-cam, and she has a bunch of videos on skin care and how to use retinol products correctly.

I know you said you dont want your skin to peel, but you can talk to your dermatologist about your concerns and they can prescribe you lower doses to mitigate the side effects. As long as you moisturise often, the dry skin wont be too noticeable

The comment I was looking for!! I struggled with acne for years and still do (it isn’t bad now, just some pimples hear and there and scars). i’ve used differin for about 2 years, antibiotics, topical acids, over the counter BP and SA products, non comedogenic sunscreens, birth control. My acne got better for about 1.5 yrs when I moved to a colder climate. I moved back home (Caribbean) and started getting really bad cystic acne. It was 2021 so we didn’t have to wear a mask everywhere anymore and I still wore mine. Called a private derm who had an 8 month wait list at the time (socialized healthcare), I was told I had to wait so I went there personally (she’s the only private one on the island) and she couldn’t turn me away when she saw me. Now I have scars, but the psychological trauma it was for me is horrible. I used to cry everyday. Lost almost all my friends because I wouldn’t go out of the house unless I absolutely had to. I wore a mask inside my own house so that my family wouldn’t comment on it. Every time I get a real cystic pimple I cry so much because I just don’t want to go through it again. Everyone commented on my skin and gave me “tips” and best believe me I had already tried everything, besides isotretinoin. I can honestly say this medication saved my life. My skin is very oily and didn’t peel. I used tons of moisturizer. Lips dried out a bit, but always had chapstick + vaseline on hand. It was truly a lifesaver

All I use now is the tea tree cleanser from Trader Joe’s and the SPF 15 moisturizer. I also do the Aztec clay/ ACV mask once a week. Drug store makeup was absolutely horrible for my skin. I stopped wearing makeup all together. Finally it is completely clear. I rarely ever break out now. Micro needling and microdermabrasion helped a lot as well.

Back in 2020 I did a series of 6 peels while using image skincare products which included sunscreen and my skin completely changed! Unfortunately covid hit and after 6/7 months the hyperpigmentation started been making it’s way back but I’m looking into doing it again because my face was looking AH-MAZING! I’d say after clearing everything up you’d have to peel like once or twice a year plus facials for maintenance. You got this girl! Wishing you all the best! ❤️

Honestly, i have been using this for 4 months and my skin has got better, my night routine was cerva salicylic acid cleanser ,then let it dry and then apply this cerva retinol cream then apply vitamine C and cerva moisturizer (this is very important or else your skin will start to be very dry). My morning routine is salicylic acid cleanser ( the acid rate is very low that's why i reuse it as recommended by Doctorly on youtube) then just apply Eltamd UV Daily SPF 40 ( this helps skin to hydrate and protect ) -> you can do your makeup on top of it.
I had severe acne and now i just have few pimples that come from time to time.

First of all it did really make a difference on your face. Secondly you should apply serums always on a freshly cleansed skin. Most moisturizers act as sealants, obviously to keep the moisture in and as a result if nothing gets out, nothing can also get in. You could use this serum in combination with CeraVe Anti-impurity gel (comes in same blue color packaging) for maximum effect. Here is my nightly routine: Wash face, pat dry. Moist face with thermal water for maximum moisture and to reduce friction while applying products. Use CeraVe Serum and seal it off with the gel. I threw all other products I bought worth hundreds of dollars in a storage box because this routine is the only non-prescription routine that worked for me and I'm not going to spend a dime on anything else or try anything new ever again. My skin is not flawless but this routine worked far better than any over the counter product I've ever tried before (and I have tried countless of those) and I'm happy with the results. My breakouts are finally under control.

I would add tea tree to your regimen. Tea tree oil dries out the pimple/ acne. Your resurfacing serum will then take care of what’s left. I get mine from Walgreens, spray a few pumps onto my fingers and rub onto my face before adding anything else. (I even add it to my body) You will want to limit how much you add depending on how open your acne/ pimples are at the time. You will feel a sting but it works. Then continue your regimen. Keep it away from your eyes nostrils and mouth and do not confuse the power of tea tree oil with irritation. Your face needs time to adjust to any new product you’re using. I would also level up and start using your serum daily because it’s clearly working on you. Sending you strength and positivity to over come your obstacles.

Sweetheart, I used to have acne like yours! For years. I used to try all different types of active ingredients but they only made my skin worse or didn't do anything. What helped me was simplifying: CeraVe Moisturizer (I use the Body & Face one) and CeraVe Face Cleanser (I use the Cream-To-Foam one but I guess any works). I also only use BB Cream with SPF and some concealer. Only now that my skin barrier is back that I started to introduce new products to fade the hyperpigmentation (such as the Niacinamide from The Ordinary just once a day with CeraVe's sunscreen) and so on but very slowly because my skin is very sensitive. Also supplementing Omega-3 (!) helped me A LOT with my acne and other hormonal aspects.
I also want to start Retinol now to improve the scaring and as I love CeraVe's products, your review is really helpful! Keep going and this will pass :) best wishes

Hey, if your looking to help you acne, maybe stop wearing concealer or foundation. I know it’s so hard without going out with something covering your acne, however, makeup strips your skin of natural oils which accentuates pores and causes dryness. This will produce a build up of dead skin on the surface of your face, which can lead to clogged pores and reduces your skin's ability to absorb the nutrients found in both moisturizer and SPF.
However a great substitute perhaps a tinted sunscreen or tinted moisturizer. Hope you continue on your skincare journey!

Amanda, you are not alone in having zits at nostril and earlobe. I'm in the same boat (even having them on scalp). What i've discovered is that one-size-fits-all is a fallacy of the system. Its not that way in real life, and also, its probably not zits but more like what the system calls rosacea. (Also look up granlund-lind black on white & find the term rosacea). What i'm driving at, is that just like emf's, bright light, stress, heat, chemicals & fragrances can cause inflamations, likewise Arginine, citrus, acids, spices, alcohol can cause same. Conversely, Lysine, light starches such as popcorn, yogurts, greens, sweet berries, gabapentin, triptans are calming.

Hey Amanda, I know I am late but I just came across your video as I was searching for products to help my cousin with her acne. Like you my cousin suffers from bad breakouts and has red bumps on both sides of her cheeks. As a person who has just switched to all Cerave products myself with normal to dry skin I can say there products work. Now for myself, I occasionally get bumps on my face but I don’t have bad acne. I suffer with dry skin and had a bad reaction to Aveeno Calm sensitive skin products where it discolored the skin on my chin. I was so embrassed going out and would cover up my discoloration with makeup so when you said you wouldn’t leave your house without makeup on I can relate. I felt so insecure as the first thing people look at is your face. I went to a dermatologist who recommended I use Cerave and she gave me a cream for the discoloration around my mouth. Two words : Game Changer for my skin! Fast forward to now my skin isn’t dry and I don’t have to use all these products to get hydration in my skin. I use the Cerave hydrating facial wash, and the Cerave moisturizing cream in the jar and on hot days I use the light moisturizing lotion. Thank you for sharing your journey and to document your progress was brave of you. So, I will definitely recommend what you use to my cousin who’s suffering with acne. I definitely saw the difference in your skin from using Cerave. Also, some tips that I learned myself that helps with acne is
    1. The pillow case ( make sure you keep your pillow case clean and make sure it’s cotton or some cool material.
    2. Your diet ( when suffering from acne stay away from anything acidic like sodas or any carbonated drinks, stick to water.
    3. When washing your face make sure you’re using a gentle cleanser so it won’t irritate your acne.
Again, thank you for making your video and your pretty so don’t let your acne get you down as we are all learning about our bodies 😊

I agree with you . I went to so many dermatologists who recommend first birth control and then other medications. It left me so depressed. It would go away for a bit and then come back again with full vengeance. Each time I would feel so drained . The medications make you feel sick as well….lots of side effects. So anyways now I stopped all the meds. I use a two percent salicylic acid face wash , followed by the pixie glow toner which has glycolic acid and then I use salicylic acid serum and niacinimide serum ( alternate days ) and a zinc moisturiser. I’m also taking some herbal blood purifying tablets which are all natural ( neem , turmeric ) . I can see an improvement. I use Benzoil peroxide two percent cream only if I get a big spot that I want to shrink in size. Hydrocolloid patches are great for random spots too. Just sharing what worked for me in case anyone’s going through painful big breakouts and wants to go off antibiotics and birth control meds used for acne treatment.

You can only really test a retinol’s efficiency after at least 4 months. Retinol is a derivative of retinoic acid which is what solves the issue of texture aging and acne. Retinol needs to change into retinaldehyde and then retinoic acid for it to work. And that process can take up to 6 months. And it is expected to purge for a max of 8-12 weeks before the skin needs to clear out
All of this to say thar patience is key with retinol.

I'd say apply the retinoid immediately after washing your (make sure to double cleanse[and no harsh stripping cleansers]), whilst your face is still wet (to increase absorbtion). Then heavily moisturize (topical vitamin A is very drying). And as far as I'm aware, percentage doesn't really change the effectiveness a whole lot. Use a broad spectrum SPF to help with hyperpigmentation and avoid damage.
Take everything I say with a grain of salt. Most of what I'm saying comes from what I have absorbed from skincare videos playing in the backround. Mostly Cassandra Bankson, Dr. Dray, James Welsh, and Hyram.

  • @geraldbmolina
    @geraldbmolina ปีที่แล้ว

This retinol is mostly for post acne marks not active. You’re better off using adapalene or BP for active pimples. The misconception on retinols is that they should fix your acne, but retinol is more of an anti-aging skin regimen.

Well done for posting your honest review and journey. Bless you. I did not from your video that you said you will not leave the house without make-up. Im sorry to tell you that make-up will clog your pores as soon as you apply it creating spots and so on. I don't wear any foundation, at most if i feel pasty white then a tinted moisturiser, as a result, i have very clear skin, the only time i get a spot is if i eat greasy food like pizza and i forget to clean my skin.... I know this will be really hard, but try zero makeup on your skin (and moisturiser until you have got a handle on it)... let you skin breathe for at least 3 weeks, even if you feel like you will need to stay home for 3 weeks and not see anyone, once the 3 weeks is up you wont have to do it again (i doubt), but i probably will take 4 to detox your skin. If you can then go swimming twice a week, the chlorine on the skin does wonders and will really clean your skin out... If your wondering why i was watching, its because i have freckles and I'm trying to find a way to fade them, apparently cerave works, but have not found any decent reviews. Just remember make up creates bad skin.
