I just bought the purple one yesterday and then seen this.. so UGH!! Maybe its for the best to start off slow with the weaker one.. For sure I will get the blue one next time
@@rosedolch8637 the purple states it's for wrinkles while the blue targets acne. So maybe that's the reason both products have a different feel and ingredients. It all boils down to the problem the consumer wants to solve. I find his review helpful (especially in mentioning the different components of both products) but it also misses some crucial points as to their purposes. I also would've liked to hear him talk more about how the product worked for him as opposed to their feel.
I used Differin gel regularly for months, After two months I seen an incredible change in my acne. Salicylic Acid & Benzoyl Peroxide did nothing for my skin. But by month three of Differin, my skin was very sensitive to fragrance. All of my cleansers & moisturizers were burning & turning my skin red within seconds. That's when I fell in love with the Cerave brand. I was only able to use the Cerave hydrating cleanser paired with either the moisturizing lotion or cream for awhile. I've been off of Differin for awhile now, and decided to try out the resurfacing retinol, I'm only about 3 weeks in and can feel subtle changes in my skin. It feels smoother already, my skin is looking less red, and all around healthier. I'm excited to see what my skin looks like after a couple of months.

You can definitely see the difference in how it made your skin look. The renewing retinol made it look matte and the resurfacing gave it more like a glassy more moisturize look. I personally started off with the renewing but definitely going to switch over to the resurfacing since you recommended in another video is better suited for older adults. Your skin is beautiful

The resurfacing serum has done wonders for my skin. I used to have issues with milia on my cheeks and after consistent use they’re all gone. Also I had problems with bumps all over my forehead and it’s definitely gotten so much better.

@@sg2684 I have an olive skin tone. It took half a year of using the resurfacing serum to notice the milia get better, and go away. I had two under my right eye one of them I had for 3 years with no luck of it coming out. 6 months after this serum I noticed it was slightly white on top. I attempted to extract it and it just came out. Before this the Milia wouldn't come out but just stayed right under my skin like a hard little ball. The other small one eventually went away on its own. I at first used it two times a week to see how my skin reacted. As of today I use it every other day or once a week.
Yes it has gotten rid of my milia. I tried the ROC cream after it and think its too much moisturizer as I notice some tiny milia again so going back on the resurfacing retinol. The ROC also has fragrance and makes my skin itch.
I used to have quite a bit of facial acne, was more of an annoyance than anything. I've been using the resurfacing serum over 1.5 years and I only have a pimple or two from time to time now, basically no acne issues compared to before I started using it. I'm 28 with very oily skin btw

I use quite a few CeraVe products on my normal to dry, mature skin. I've used both of these CeraVe retinol serums. The Resurfacing formula is more effective, in my opinion. I had 2 small patches of dry, rough skin on the perimeter of my face and this formula cleared them up in a couple of weeks. The Skin Renewing formula I've used at night under my nighttime moisturizer. It's okay and feels nice on the skin but I don't think it does much in the way of retinol benefits...again my own opinion. I've also had very good results from Neutrogena's Rapid Wrinkle Repair cream (fragrance-free version). It's more of an all-in-1 product that I don't need to use with another moisturizer. Not sure why but I have WAY fewer breakouts and my skin is more hydrated and I'm happier with the all around texture. I use SO many CeraVe products and I've never been mad at any of them! ❤️
I've used both. Before menopause, I would have preferred the resurfacing formula, but with my much dryer older skin, the Skin Renewal Retinol Serum feels better.
The purple one is $4 more than the resurfacing one at Target right now! I have tried both but I definitely prefer the feel (and price) of the resurfacing retinol.
It's cheaper at CVS. Target has a price-matching policy so, you can show the CVS price to the Target cashier for the purple one ($21.49). The Resurfacing one is $24.49 at Target and $23.99 at CVS. Hope that helps.
Looks like I'll be trying the resurfacing retinol serum! Thank you, Dr. Sugai. I am fairly new to CaraVe product, but this looks worth a try and not as pricey as Neutrogena or Loreal skin care.🙌👍🏻
They may have included the chicory root extract merely for texture modification purposes…it is rich in inulin (a gel-forming fiber). Some food manufacturers use it to add a creamy texture to products, so maybe it’s being used that way in skincare too. It has other properties in foods, but not sure if any of those translate to topical applications.
inulin is actually a prebiotic, not used for texture in skincare at all. Inulin dissolves in water to give a liquid texture not gel. It's used in food for the same reason it also has a mild sweet taste so sometimes used in sugar-free bars.
@@tintinbuno9404 I've only tried the purple one and it worked okay. But honestly, i prefered the Neutrogena night cream(?) (that grey tub one i mean). Cerave is more like a serum and the Neutrogena one is a cream so it's even thicker.
Yeah for my choice Ty for the great information. I knew i was doing something right my complexion is so much better. I started with the purple bottle switched to the green bottle👏🏻👏🏻
Just ran into your TH-cam videos. Thank you so much for being down to earth and showing us what is the best treatments for our skin without so pending a ton of money. Also, thank you for speaking slowly, so that we can all understand what you are explaining, some folks speak so fast in their TH-cam’s. 👍🙂
Thank you for this video. Gives me a clear and simple-to-understand information about retinol and retinoid, as I'm only starting to incorporate retinol into my skin care and really was at a loss.
After seeing your previous comparison od Retinol creams, I headed down to chemist warehouse (Australia) and chose a Sukin Biomarine facial serum (hydration)because I could not decide which retinol brand to buy. My request to you is please give a talk on sea algae/ marine skin products. I just love the way they feel.
The Blue one has been saving my skin. I had bad hormonal ance for 2/3 years. No matter what I did, it wouldnt get better. Now I use 4% benzoyl p wash and this product and its been amazing.
Why does my skin react negatively to niacinimide? I notice I get clusters of bumps on the mornings after I apply this to my lower cheek areas, mirrored in almost identical spots on both sides.
I started using the blue one at night (resurfacing) after cleansing and after a blemish spot reducing serum (from Neutrogena) and before moisturizing instead of in the AM, and my skin feels so soft in the morning. I think I was sweating it off during the day so results were mediocre but at night, it has time to do its thang.
I've been using Loreal Revitalift pure retinol 0,3% for the last 3 months with good results. I would like to try the blue one from Cerave but not knowing how much percentage is on the product turns me off buying it.
Dr.. thank u so much for the review.. much waited n now I know which one to purchase😄😄😍. Dr, pls review First Aid Beauty products .. such as their Ultra repair cream .. plsss

Thank you for an excellent clear video! Two questions: 1) Can I use the CeraVe Resurfacing Retinol Serum (blue one) with the CeraVe Skin Renewing Vitamin C Serum in the morning followed by sunscreen of course? 2) Or can I use the CeraVe Resurfacing Retinol Serum (blue one) with tretinoin at night?
Thanks for the videos and reviews. Wish we could get this in Australia for $17. Its $50 in Australia. Choosing the right ageing skincare is hard. Are expensive brands truly worth it and do they work? Its a question on my mind all the time. Ive tried organic brands and Rosehip Oil and Almond Oil and both left my skin dry and flaky. I am ditching them and trying these inexpensive dermatologist recommended brands.
It's frustrating that Chemist Warehouse is supposed to be the only stockist of this brand yet they don't stock either of these serums! This dermatologist has great videos on the less expensive brands that do the same job th-cam.com/channels/Dc2wFMXTSApCa4UwDrdz_Q.html
I like how you talk very seriously about avoiding if a woman is pregnant or breastfeeding. Now, would it work on over 55-year-old people who have had acne scars for a long time?
Hello Doctor, can you please make the video of battle between Olay retinol 24 and Cerave resurfacing retinol Serum? . Because I am debating between those two and not sure which one should I buy
can you use both of them together? because i just started doing that and am wondering if it is overkill, if they are canceling each other out, or working better together.
Great review! Glad I tuned in. I use Roc Retinol products daily. Can I incorporate the CeraVe Resurfacing Serum @ night along with my Roc Retinol Deep Wrinkle Night Cream? Would love to hear your thoughts!
After seeing this video, I wanna try the resurfacing one. I am 30s yo. I have combination, fine lines, wrinkle, sensitive, large pores, redness, post acne scars and hyperpigmentation. Many drugstore products don't suit me, but I really hope for this product.
Why don’t brands disclose the percentage of retinol? I am currently using .5% and I’d like to try a different brand but it’s difficult because I don’t know if I’m lowering my dose or not.
Blue bottle 16.13 at Walmart expensive 🥺 but my question is which 1 is better for hyperpigmentation I have old dark Spots I need to get rid of plus I got sensitive skin
I’m 55 an avid skincare consumer. Glad I found you. If I’m using an aha toner, can I still use the retinol serums or creams? I use .25 tretinoin a few times a week and Roc night cream . But I also just got an aha toner for better exfoliation. Thanks.
Great video...Dr I was wondering the same thing...Which has a higher percentage of retinol??... I even called their 800 number, but won't tell the customer. Why is it okay/ legal to hide the percentage of retinol?
I don't personally find the purple one sticky, it has always gone on smoothly for me and absorbed in nicely leaving my skin hydrated and matte all day. It may be that different types of skin absorb diifferent products better. It's too early for me to comment on longer term effects, for example effects that might be caused by retinol, but I have noticed benefits from the good moisturising properties. My skin looks smoother from that alone. I've just ordered the blue one now to give that a try and see what I like best.
Praise the Lord… I just prayed for clarity on these two products and viola here you are clarifying this information… Curious as to which of the two would you recommend for someone diagnosed with eczema/atopic dermatitis? Any insight will be great!!! Getting ready to redo my whole routine… Getting ready to switch primarily to Cerave products and trying to figure out what (out of the multitude) specific products to use… Also what type of bath/shower cleanser would you recommend for normal to oily skin? Hi there doctor! Love your review! Unfortunately we don't get these CeraVe products in Europe - what would you recommend as a good alternative to the Resurfacing blue retinol for the reduction of post-acne hyper-pigmentation?
In Europe you guys are blessed with brands like LaRoche Posay which have great retinol products. Another one that dermatologists rave about is Avène with their A-Oxitive Night Peeling cream (0.1% retinaldehyde which is one step closer to the active form of retinoic acid than the retinols used by CeraVe). The Avène products are definitely more expensive than CeraVe but you really get what you pay for. Hope this helps!
I am on the fence between these two - CeraVe's website guides you by what you're looking to achieve, and I am looking for more anti-aging benefits, which is why I chose the skin renewing over the acne benefit resurfacing. However, after watching your video, I'd like to try the resurfacing, but is that appropriate for anti-aging as well? I don't have much problem with acne.
Same here. I ve been 2 years have no problem with acne. However, only whwn i do not remove my make up well or im on my period.. i would get only 1 or 2 pimples. My concern is like you aging, so i m thibkibg of getting purple pump too.
I have mature skin. Used the blue one and loved it. Then bought the Purple one and thought it would be better but had reactions to it. Returned and now Bought Second blue one. My son also loves the blue one.
Hi, can you do a video on chemical exfoliatiors that are good for sensitive skin? I've been on a long journey trying to find the right product but alot of them like either dries out my skin or gives me breakouts 😭
Omg you're so lucky 😭 I've tried it for a month or two and it really strips my skin dry and causes breakout in my skin. I was so excited to try because of the good reviews online 😔
A lot of derms seem to prefer the CeraVe resurfacing one.
I think the Renewing Retinol is for fine lines and wrinkles and the Resurfacing Retinol is for skin texture and acne marks.

Not sure why but I have WAY fewer breakouts and my skin is more hydrated and I'm happier with the all around texture. I use SO many CeraVe products and I've never been mad at any of them! ❤️

Cerave products are excellent!! I love them!! 💖💖💖

You said it can’t be used while pregnant?😢
Thank you for the review!! Looks like the whole "only the purple is for anti-wrinkle" was just marketing after all! Glad to know that!
Thank you for watching!
good morning which one will you recommend for seniors -anti wrinkle. is that available in pinas. Thank you
I've used both.
Never been this early but I'm glad I am!! Been waiting for a comparison of these two products :)
Thank you for watching! Have a nice weekend 🙏🏼🤙
I bought the purple one hoping it'd be more moisturizing for my dry skin haha.
How was it? I have dry skin too and does not know what to buy between the two.
@@tintinbuno9404 I've only tried the purple one and it worked okay. But honestly, i prefered the Neutrogena night cream(?) (that grey tub one i mean). Cerave is more like a serum and the Neutrogena one is a cream so it's even thicker.
@@danichewy Thank you so much. I was really wondering if it's worth it for my skin type. Going to check the Neutrogena.
Me too accidentally ran into Dr Sugai video clip n I fall in love 🥰 with its humble contents. My salute to you Dr Sugai 🥰👍🙏
Exactly...some of these speak like they are running on a motor
Thank you for this video. Gives me a clear and simple-to-understand information about retinol and retinoid, as I'm only starting to incorporate retinol into my skin care and really was at a loss.
CeraVe Resurfacing Retinol Serum, Followed By Night Time Renewing Cream = Winning.
I need the creme all I have is Nivea
After seeing your previous comparison od Retinol creams, I headed down to chemist warehouse (Australia) and chose a Sukin Biomarine facial serum (hydration)because I could not decide which retinol brand to buy. My request to you is please give a talk on sea algae/ marine skin products. I just love the way they feel.
The Blue one has been saving my skin. I had bad hormonal ance for 2/3 years. No matter what I did, it wouldnt get better. Now I use 4% benzoyl p wash and this product and its been amazing.
How long did it take for you to see results with the cerave
I'm new to Retinol and planning to get CeraVe for the first time. Thanks for the video, I'll go with the resurfacing one! :)
I'm definitely going to switch to the Cerave blue when I am done with the Neutrogena bc I have age spots that started after my hysterectomy 😭
Update ?
Thank you I’ll try that blue one “ the winner” as you recommended it!
Great review! I only wish I’d watched this before I purchased the purple bottle.
Me too - I ordered the purple one 3 hours ago - aghh! 😊

would love to see a review on Maelove skincare line!! specifically their vitamin c serum and retinal serum :)
I didnt ubderstand whats Exactly the difference
Thank you! I use the ordinary, but I wanna give these a try
Thank you for explaining the terminology and the differences between each category under the retinoid umbrella term
Why does my skin react negatively to niacinimide? I notice I get clusters of bumps on the mornings after I apply this to my lower cheek areas, mirrored in almost identical spots on both sides.
I have the same reaction to salicylic acid
Its most likely skin purging. Happened to me at first then I get bigger
Thanks for this. I’ve just finished the purple one and have recently ordered 2 bottles of the blue. Can’t wait!
Wow, thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with us! I really appreciate your work!
Don't worry it's below 1 percent
Thanks for this information. This is the exact type of comparison I wanted!
I’ve been waiting for this comparison video and your skin looks great Doc! Aloha Hui Ho! 🤙🌈🌴

Wow, I was so wondering about the difference. I thought the purple one was better but you have changed my mind.
Thank you for all your feedback and reviews from all the retinol creams you've reviewed which is the best would it be the Roc in the white bottle that you did review on really need to know so many retinol creams to choose from please respond and thank you so much for your expertise
Thank you for watching them! If you are okay with fragrance, the roc serum will be a nice option but if not, Cerave may be the better option!

Thank you thank youuu for making this video! So glad I got the blue one lol not even going to waste my money trying the purple one!
I really appreciate the genuine review :)
See, I don’t mind a stickier serum. I’m in Canada and it’s cold and dry here so glycerin and shea butter sound good to me!
Me, as well. I get really dry skin during the winter months.
Thank you. Its so hard to know with all the expensive products to buy and then not like it. This really helps sort it out.
I totally understand how you feel. I’d have to pay $45 here in Barbados.
So nice to see a product without glycerin...it's so sticky to me. I can't stand how it feels on my skin.
I’m new. I was looking to educate my self on this product. First time I see you and I subscribed… love how you educated us on this topic👍🏼
I like how you talk very seriously about avoiding if a woman is pregnant or breastfeeding. Now, would it work on over 55-year-old people who have had acne scars for a long time?
Thank you so much. I couldn't decide between the two. I was leaning toward resurfacing, and now I'm going to try that one for sure.
How was it?
@@aikae19 unfortunately its not available in my country so i didnt try it
Why don’t brands disclose the percentage of retinol? I am currently using .5% and I’d like to try a different brand but it’s difficult because I don’t know if I’m lowering my dose or not.
Thank you! Glad to know that coz I’m using the purple one and didn’t even know about the resurfacing.
I love this review, thanks for this once again.
Thank you so much!🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Blue bottle 16.13 at Walmart expensive 🥺 but my question is which 1 is better for hyperpigmentation I have old dark
Spots I need to get rid of plus I got sensitive skin
Works really well ... my preference is the resurfacing serum
I’m 55 an avid skincare consumer. Glad I found you. If I’m using an aha toner, can I still use the retinol serums or creams? I use .25 tretinoin a few times a week and Roc night cream . But I also just got an aha toner for better exfoliation. Thanks.
Clean dry face
I recently bought both with no research behind my purchase and I've been using both at the same time before bedtime lmao
Thank u Dr. Sugai!!. Greetings from Holland. Stay blessed. 👌✔️
Thank you, my friend!🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🌺🤙
This is the best video I've seen on TH-cam
Great video...Dr I was wondering the same thing...Which has a higher percentage of retinol??... I even called their 800 number, but won't tell the customer. Why is it okay/ legal to hide the percentage of retinol?
Thank you! Yes- a lot of companies do not or cannot reveal their percentages. I’ll have to look into the legal reasons. 🙏🏼
Thanks for your comparison! Would love to try the resurfacing one when they have it in Canada. They only carry the renewing one here in Canada.
I found certain shoppers finally have it!!
I was able to find it at Walmart. I see that Shoppers and Rexall have it too! :)
Love your channel brother!!!
The two skincare brands I use are Suave and Aveeno love both!
Thank you, Sean! Glad to hear you found brands/products that work for you!
During the winter I like to sludge with healing ointment after I do retinol.
I`ve been using the resurfacing and I love it! ,,Great videos thanks!
These comparison vids are so useful for newbie like me. Thank you!
Thanks a bunch for this video and your professional info!!!

I am using the resufacing retinol everynight, cerave moisturizer and azelaic acid and it does really great on my skin i have post acne marks and it fade away quickly
Do you use the cerave and azelaic at the same time?
@@breeflores8333yes you can use them both. I do the same, i use a cleanser, then azelaic acid, then I use the blue retinol then after it dries I use a ceraVE moisturizer
I try to avoid so many skincare products because of perfume and menthol I'm allergic to so many.
Retinol is anti aging they both have retinol in
I have mature skin.
I use paulas choice bha exfoliator. I have sensitive acne prone skin and I really like it so far.
Omg you're so lucky 😭 I've tried it for a month or two and it really strips my skin dry and causes breakout in my skin. I was so excited to try because of the good reviews online 😔
