Why this little jellybean is my 'Car of The Year' 2023 - Daihatsu Sirion Rally 2 - Beards n Cars

- The Daihatsu Sirion isn't exactly synonymous with most people's idea of a performance car, but as any who know my taste in super obscure fast cars in the sphere of Gran Turismo will know - I legitimately love the Daihatsu Storia X4. A rally-ready monster which absolutely dominated the sub 1000 cc class in Japanese rally events. This incarnation is a 2003 Daihatsu Sirion Rally 2, and although not quite as quick - or as rabid - as the X4, it is a shockingly impressive little machine, especially given how completely under the radar it looks, and how bottom of the bargain bin their used prices are.
Because underneath the old folks home exterior lies a 1.3 litre twin-cam driving the front wheels, and thanks to its 115 bhp output in an 850 kg frame it can absolutely decimate the likes of a Fiat Panda 100HP or Suzuki Swift Sport in the 0-60 rush, at 7.8 seconds. All the while delivering Japanese reliability, cheap parts prices, upwards of 50 mpg fuel economy with ease, and corners like its on fly paper. All of this combined with the absolute sleeper factor of being a Daihatsu and you've got yourself a performance cult classic in the making. So let's jump out on the road in my personal M100 generation facelift model Daihatsu Sirion Rally II to give my overall thoughts on this buzzing little package of fun!

Love it. I had the previous gen - manual, in kermit green back in the day😂 I loved that little thing with the wheels right on the corners... It was my first taste of something light and a little sporty. It could pull..with just me in it.
I've got a cuore, and I'm putting a 1.3 sirion engine in it right now

You would be surprised, but GTVi with automatic transmission has shift buttons on a steering wheel. I have it with 4x4 and it's really awesome.
BTW, I have never seen the electrically foldable mirrors on these cars.
What a fantastic car! Not entirely sure the 4WD version correlates to off-road driving but instead more traction in inclement weather and the 'twisties'.
Mate this is awesome. I have a diahatsu sirion gtvi which possibly is the same as your one and I love it and it's good to see someone else appreciating them. Love mine.
Oh yea. Mine is the preface loft model aswell so that's another difference

Beast of a car i agree! So surprising its truly amazing, yes i have a gtvi , i say its the best car ive had yet, and ive had a few!
Also this car has factory tuned chassis with front strut tower braces and under carriage

I have i sirion 2 it only has 92 hp 120 nm but its quite quick just fun to drive
You could engine swap it to the X4 engine. 🤗

Do you know how fast 1/4 mile is ? If it does 15 s thats a very fast 4 cylinder

I'm excited that it's a Toyota designed motor so fitting a turbocharged GT starlet motor should be an easy up grade , awsome
