    The dealbreaker is the lack of water resistance. You have to worry about protecting it from the drool of onlookers, as well as people’s tears when they realise they can’t afford it.

    • @PerthWAtch
      @PerthWAtch  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah for me it was mainly my own drool I had to worry about.

    • @manufakturwaldhoff4200
      @manufakturwaldhoff4200 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Aaron, thanks for your feedback. Water resistance is hard to achieve when the stem goes through a sapphire case wall. We would have had to create a steel wall in that area for the stem to go through, but since this is a dress watch, we thought the significant cost increase may not be worth the effort. Cheers

    This is an interesting watch company, Waldhoff, Made in Germany.I am not really a China made tourbillon watch guy, so I do not think that I will be buying this watch anytime soon.
    At $2250, it isn't a cheap watch to invest, but as a tourbillon watch, of course, it is extremely cheap. But it will come down to exclusivity and horology of the watch brand and reputation. If a real watch lover, a very wealthy watch lover, wants to buy a tourbillon, I am pretty sure that he will be spending hundreds of thousand dollars, perhaps as an investment or just to appreciate the finest Swiss watch making. As we all know, tourbillon does not really do anything for your watch except for the look and hoping that someone else might be saying "wow, great tourbillon watch. what brand is it?" If I were the watch owner, I would be a bit embarrassed to say "it is Made in China Hangzhou tourbillon & brand is Waldhoff".
    However, if someone's dream was to buy a real tourbillon watch at a super reasonable price, I guess this will be it. But on the flip side, unfortunately for Waldhoff, Alibaba is offering the same movement tourbillon watch at $400 range.www.alibaba.com/product-detail/High-quality-Brand-luxury-men-watch_62461020119.html?spm=a2700.7724857.normalList.1.4f775a5eoo5IgQ&s=p&fullFirstScreen=true
    Ivan, as you said, Waldhoff is an interesting and no-nonsense watch company. I realized that when I was checking on their website.they have a lot of watches from $368 dollars to $2250. Using various different movements, NH38, Miyota, ETA and a lot of Hangzhou movements. And their pricing is very reasonable like Steinhart, another German watch company. Waldhoff is offering Tornado Midnight chrono watch (Valjoux 7750) at $850. THAT is a very good price for that movement. However, unlike Steinhart which has their marketing at homage concepts, it seems like Waldhoff has their own designs and marketing plan.
    Honestly, I am bit impressed how they are doing it. and I would love to follow this company to see where they can go from here.
    By the way, Ivan. for the most of highend watches, they are using Hangzhou movement which hasn't really been tested in foregin market for a long time. So, do you know how long of warranty they provide for their highend watches? And I am sure that Waldhoff does not have their service centers in USA or some other lesser known countries. So, when something goes bad with your tourbillon watch, who will pay for the shipping cost? and how long is the turn-around time for repair?
    Thanks for an interesting watch review and have a great Sunday.

      Haha well honestly a tourbillon for me is mainly for myself to stare at the marvel... if a friend or some other spectator wishes to also enjoy the visual feast for a brief period, I would be joyous to share the experience!
      Alibaba!? Ah c'mon Alex that's not really a comparison is it? Sure you can buy *100 pieces for $45000* but who in this audience is going to do that??
      Re: warranty, I'm not 100% sure but I think it's 2 years, off the top of my head. As for the other details I am afraid I do not have the info at hand presently. Cheers!

    • @alexsdg3441
      @alexsdg3441 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@PerthWAtch thanks for reply Ivan. as for Alibaba, I did not mean that any consumer will buy from Alibaba, few pcs, for himself. I meant to say about the exclusivity of that Tourbillon movement. If Alibaba sells a watch with that exact movement to basically anyone who will pay that money, I highly doubt that anyone can really "enjoy the visual feast for a brief period" and it would be bit "non-joyous :+)" to share the experience. ha ha. thanks Ivan. PS, IMO, having tourbillon is ALL ABOUT exclusivity and super high horology reputation. Without that.....it is like buying a Pagani Design GMT (probably about the same price difference ratio, ha ha) and enjoying the visual feast and sharing the experience with your other watch afficionados. Not quite the same.... :+)

    • @PerthWAtch
      @PerthWAtch  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah fair points - however I would say that given what we have today, the exclusivity of the tourbillon is no longer what it used to be. The Alibaba price (and the inaccessibility of that) notwithstanding, most of the enthusiasts I come across have never seen a tourbillon anyway, and I have indeed been truly and genuinely able to share with joy (and the audience have enjoyed the "visual feast").
      Having a *Swiss* tourbillon is in large part about exclusivity, and mostly remains so today. Having a Chinese tourbillon... not so ;)

    I’ve gotta say for a tourbillon this is very impressive to me. I am not a fan of them as I find most are illegible. But the blued steel components look brilliant! I could consider one of these, if my list wasn’t already full!🤣👍🏼

    I can't quite figure out why it misses for me. Tourbillon is interesting , Sapphire case nice concept , skeletonized is popular, leaf pattern even better . l don't mind complications for complications sake. Like the idea of a Non Swiss watch. But it strikes me as a curiosity rather then the tour du force a tourbillon is supposed to be. I'd like to say sometimes less is more, but that's not always true. Say if you add a great dial, elegant hands ok maybe a thinner case still? Great review as usual Ivan

    • @PerthWAtch
      @PerthWAtch  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh I get what you mean, and you put it fairly. A tourbillon isn’t for everyone, and if you’re gonna get one it’s gotta be in a design that resonates with your own sensibilities.

    • @bellaggio1770
      @bellaggio1770 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Tourbillon movements are generally quite thick, so it reflects on the watch case thickness as well. Luckily this one is manually wound, otherwise it would be thicker even.

    • @scottloudon14
      @scottloudon14 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@bellaggio1770 Well said, it's true tourbillons require a surprising amount of space. Objectively it's the proportions rather than just the thickness that doesn't quite work for me. It's also my " perception " of what I expect of a tourbillon. A brands tour du force, their very best piece, elegant in form and function. Admittedly I've also gotten pickier over time. Thanks for the comment

  • @thomasont
    @thomasont 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Hi Ivan, an interesting watch offering from them.
    Also, nice to see a contemporary take on an already classical skeletonized styled movement.
    What astounds me is the case design seemed to be a cross of AP code 99.something and Jacob & Co. astronomia.
    A deal breaker for me would be lumes, decent water resistance and design. An exemption to compensate one of the three would be a speciality.
    This watch covers 1/3. Bummer without proper water resistance since there are no other compensation factors like an alarm complication on Poljot's or minute repeater function given their movement size. Though a tourbuillon feature is a complication, its not a speciality as it is part of their movement integrity.
    Also, its case dimentions are a little off in terms of proportions.
    Thanks for your review with best regards.

    • @PerthWAtch
      @PerthWAtch  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for the detailed thoughts Thomason... I fear though that the possibility of an alarm or minute repeater complication would be beyond the realm of possibility at price point. Not entirely sure what the cheapest would be, but I suspect it’d be many multiples more!

    • @thomasont
      @thomasont 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Your concerns are undeniably relatable to many including myself at one given point in time.
      Given the time, what we have to know in principle is that these featured functions offered same convinience and purpose as to modern movements with same or similiar featured capabilities. The only difference is mechanical versus hybrid technology. In another way, we could argue that it is old versus new school or function versus purpose.
      Which ever way its been, the same thing remains. These functions are on the same principle basis.
      So when it comes to a "wine taste better with age" as an example metaphor, I do understand the doubts on paying premiums for such complications if its an antique movement with importance.
      Yet fear not because this isn't the case in current times. Since a Chinese tourbuillon movement can be duplicated and replicated with en masse manufacturing capabilities and with new materials, they have showed us that the prices of theirs when compared to Japanese or Swiss are not at premiums.
      The question of paying premiums based on a time tested technology is now becoming accessible at lower price points. Its purely commercial based marketing and perceived perceptions.
      In other words, reputation.
      As an example, we can look up at a lesser known brand that uses mechanised alarm feature by Poljot. Their commanded prices are no where near premiums, especially in preowned markets. This is partly due to the brand's lesser known reputation. However, this could not be said true for minute repeaters as these are still reservedly made by established watch maker brands. Only time would tell when another foreign watch maker would take up the challenge to pick up the minute repeater mantle and made it affordable.
      Also, note that aliexpress.com does offer alternative Chinese made tourbuillon watches at a significant fraction of premium price due to unrecognized commercial reputation.
      Hence, your video watch review have made a valid point.
      It is still possible to obtain featured features at reasonable prices. It is all in the moment of time that these mechanical features would become widely accessible.
