    I've just adopted a one watch per year policy. That way I've got a whole year to save and research, so I know that when my birthday comes around which watch I can't get out of my head.

    Don't fall for it. If you like the Milgauss get it now, while it's still relatively entry level after the discontinuation. Coming from this channel, this is Diliberate FUD. It's atrocious and absolutely uncalled for. Solid movement, Simple straightforward class. The best entry level bang for your buck.

  • @thomashrubecky1663
    @thomashrubecky1663 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    OK, so I guess you won't be in my Milgauss owners club. That's your loss because it is so esthetically pleasing to see.
    It has a brilliantly polished case, middle links & link sides, a simply beautiful blue sunray dial, a whimsical orange lightning bolt seconds hand AND that dazzling "glace verte" green sapphire crystal! Whilst one can't *see it* owing to the solid case back, there's also the interior second soft iron case shielding the movement from magnetism so the wearer can *feel it!* That weight is balanced by the weight of the solid link bracelet and machined clasp so the weight is very well distributed around the wrist.
    When all of these disparate elements are seen together as one whole work of mechanical horological design, it's a positively stunning image. When the sun shines on my Milgauss one cannot help looking at all of the magnificent reflections sparkling off of its brilliant polished surfaces; it's a light-show. If you choose to miss out on its brilliance that's your choice but you are the poorer for it. Perhaps living in the UK and missing ample sunshine has robbed you of this watch's party piece.

    Why is the Milgauss unpopular? It’s not a hype model that the flippers can roll into an immediate 50% profit. An enthusiast who likes it, bought one, and enjoys wearing it is a different demographic altogether. If, on the other hand, you really wanted a Submariner, but “settled” for a Milgauss, that’s a mistake in my opinion. Don’t get sucked in by the “affordable substitute” for the watch you want. I've simply asked them to reconsider and save until they can comfortably afford the watch their hearts desire. Just wait until you can afford to get what you want. Better to be without a watch that you don't truly want than to have a compromise that you wind up putting in the box and no longer sees the light of day.

I'll take one at half price because eventually the trends will catch up and people will naturally covet it. I mean, it IS a Rolex. People will catch up to its coolness. And when a trendy actor/musician/person of influence wears it- forget even trying to get one.

    It’s funny…since watches suddenly became possessions as opposed to functional items, the people with opinions appeared out of nowhere. ‘Buy this…avoid that…wear this…don’t where that…’!
    The reality is, as the saying goes, opinions are like as*holes, every bodies got one.
    Buy whatever watch YOU like and can reasonably afford and ignore the as*holes!

I stare at my Milgauss more when it’s on my wrist than any other watch. The colors change all the time depending on the lighting. The blue along with the green and orange is such an amazing color combination. Not to mention the value has increased tremendously since it’s been discontinued. So why should people avoid the Milgauss?

    The Milgauss is my favorite Rolex. Those overrated chronographs with superfluous subdials are not appealing to me.
    Plus, who needs a watch with 1000 m water resistance?. Plan on visiting an oceanic trench some time soon?.
    The Milgauss was made, not with the deep sea diver or mountain climber, but with the scientist in mind and was actually tested by CERN at 1000 gauss resistance. Maybe like a typical ceramic magnet you'd get off Amazon. That's a lot for a mechanical watch.
    Personally, magnetic fields are more of a concern for me than water resistance. I do not scuba dive, skin dive, deep sea dive, nor do I even shower wearing watch, so why is this underwater pressure resistance such a concern for so many people that it is brought up so often?. Do _that_ many people wear watches deep underwater as an imperative?.
    The Milgauss has a great design, especially with the lightning bolt second hand and is the ONLY Rolex with a green-tinted sapphire crystal. Oh, and it doesn't have those gaudy over-sized bezels and redundant subdials.
    Of course, whatever I like they stop making, take off the air, or discontinue. Yet more proof I'm always right and the world is wrong.

    OK, you may not like a particular design/look (like with all manufacturers), but you can’t have it both ways and say Hublot is “subpar” given the materials they use and when a number their pieces utilize for instance a skeletonized version of the Zenith El Primero chronograph movement (also employed in some highly collectible Rolex Daytona models), in addition to in-house movements like the incredibly accurate UNICO and the HUB1201, which was developed over a span of two years specifically for the MECA-10 model with 10 days of power reserve.

  • @RamPatten
    @RamPatten ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Horological snobbery is reserved for fools who need to be told what to buy as opposed to discovering, nurturing, and enjoying the hobby as a passion.
    There is literally no requirement whatsoever to have a watch with a +/- 1 second variation, because the overriding and vast majority will never do anything that requires such accuracy which cannot be compensated for by setting a watch a minute or two ahead.
    And for those who need perfection to the nth degree, they get governing body approved timing pieces as tested and qualified for said specification.
    So, to answer the question about which watch to avoid and which to buy;
    1. Don't buy anything you can't afford;
    2. Don't buy anything because someone else told you so;
    3. Don't buy anything as a collector's item on the assumption that it will appreciate in value and pay you back dividends [they NEVER do];
    And,
    4. Only buy something you genuinely connect with, when you can afford it, and irrespective of brand or materials used.
    Also - just because someone doesn't like it, it doesn't mean you can't. Horology is a hobby; therefore, enjoy it.
