I almost was a concrete angel. I told school, I told family members they did nothing but tell my parents so abuse got worse. But at 12 I ran away to a roller skating rink and they hid me until the police got there. I'm now 53 with no family except the one I created. My 6 kiddos now grown and I broke the cycle

You missed the part of the video that shows that the little boy was a spirit who was there to help the little girl in her passing. Martina is a powerhouse vocalist. I saw her sing at the Grand Ole Opry, and she sounds as good, if not better, than her recordings.

No matter how many times I have watched this video and heard this song, I always cry and my heart always hurts. To see and hear your reaction as you watch it makes me cry even harder. Martina has this beautiful ability to bring such emotions to her songs.
You will probably see comments saying that this song is about her niece. It is NOT about anyone she knows. She has confirmed this many times. She didn't write but her vocals bring out the feels when addressing a topic that sadly happens every single day around the world. She has many many hits. Radio stations tried to ban this song & her song the 4th of July. All her fans, including myself, called & sent messages requesting that they play them. We have lived them. They need to be heard to stir the soul & to speak for those who cannot speak for themselves.
The song was written in 2002 to bring awareness for kids who are dealing with child abuse this song affected more than just Martina herself affected a lot of us out there that dealt with situations that we either were the person who turned somebody in because of abuse or were abused And I thank you for watching and reacting to this powerful message this song
Anything Martina McBride is amazing. Her song was played at my daughter's funeral. In my Daughter's Eyes. Go done the rabbit hole please. God's Will is another year jerker
I’m familiar with several Martina McBride songs. She really shows you she can sing in ‘A broken wing’ I have never heard this one. Powerful song but it’s the video with the girl that that makes it tough. You’re a champ brother. You held it together better than I would have. Having 13 and 10 year old son and daughter I couldn’t imagine wanting to hurt them. Sadly, there are evil people out there that feed off others pain. Not every parent deserves a child but every child deserves a loving parent. God bless y’all.
Martina has an amazing voice, and so many of her songs tell really compelling stories. Kids deserve our protection, and their innocence should be protected as long as possible.
I literally just suggested u listen to Martina Mcbride on ur Alison Krauss video! This was a heavy one to start with, but she has a lot of amazing songs! A broken wing, Independence day, Happy girl, In my daughter's eyes, This one's for the girls....She is definitely an artist u could let Alynia listen to!
Her voice is heavenly. She didn't even stretch it out past 20% on this one. Theres several live videos when she just holds notes for 20-30 seconds and just blows your mind
Martina will take on a cause. She has a fire voice. Beautiful. My favorite of hers is Anyway. So inspirational. But for pure fire in vocals check out a live version of Where would you be.
I always feel like i need to hug a reactor when they experience this the first time. If you are able to watch it again you missed a key moment in this video. I understand your eyes were down...but at the funeral scene you see the little boy that she was friends with, becomes an orb and that's when she greets him with the hug. He was her guardian angel all along. It's still sad to see them run to play with all the other children but it's one of the few moments that makes this video bearable for me. Hug your babies tonight BP!
I've heard/seen this once before and never caught on that the little boy was her guardian angel waiting for her. Brings even more poignancy to the song. I'm an English lit nerd - the early British poet/illustrator from the Romantic period, William Blake's "Songs of Experience" will get you every time. Onions...lots of onions...
Martina McBride brings light to the subjects that need to be in the spotlight. Artists like you who spotlight the music and amplify it on your platforms help make all of us pay attention, Thank you. She also sings "Independence Day".
I remember when this song came out. I cry evertime. We need songs like this. Maybe it will save not at least one child, but all children of abuse. Thank you
I grew up in a dysfunctional and abusive home. By God's grace my siblings and myself grew to be normal adults. This goes on around us, if you see signs say something, they need help. The boy is an Angel, angels are around us.
I’m so thankful you are alright. I’m a survivor as well. I can’t scream loud enough for people to speak up if they know or see a child being abused. God bless you and your siblings.
I known this song for years but rewatching it and having a kid I had to go love on my child more bc I can’t see how people can just hurt there child. It’s just so heartbreaking….
The boy was her guardian angel and preparing her for her fate and welcomed her with open arms when it was her time. You have to check you "Where Would You Be" by her. It us a live performance from the CMT Flameworthy Awards. You will witness the most amazing vocal control.
Another great tear-jerker of hers is "God's Will"... but my favorite Martina McBride song is "Anyway" - amazing, inspirational, & one of her many songs that make you marvel at how such an enormous voice comes out of her tiny body. She is a powerhouse vocalist.
Martina McBride has a powerful voice...this song gets me every single time! Thanks for the reaction!! It causes tears every single time I hear this song. I was not abused, nor have I ever abused or neglected my children. It happens all the time and it is so unacceptable!
When the little boy goes through the people during the funeral it’s supposed to signify that he is her angel. This video/song was written about Martina McBride’s niece that was killed by child abuse at age 7 I believe the song Alyssa Lies is also connected to this song
This song always tears me up because I relate to it. My Dad was a violent drunk who beat me when he drank too much, and he did the same to my Mom. I still remember hearing my Mom crying and pleading for him to stop beating me with a leather belt. And I remember going to his gun closet, loading both barrels of a shotgun, and pointing it at his head after he passed out. My Mom stopped me before I pulled the trigger. I was only 5. Thankfully, he left us to live with his mistress about a year later. Four decades later, he did finally apologize as an old man. And I forgave him before he died. But I don't think I'll ever completely heal from it.
So many reacting to this song are so touched and emotionally torn up by the time that the little boy angel walks through the people at the funeral that they are shutting their eyes or looking away Hope you go back and re-watch that part of the video.. Great song! Touching reaction.
This is a song that hurts deep down into your soul. I have a daughter and a crenddaughter and feel so lucky that they were both raised in a loving family.
This is a tear jerker 😢 I went through childhood abuse so I resonate with it 😢it wasn't to this extreme but bad all the same 😢😢I protected my children like they were made of glass❤❤
Martina Mcbride is one of my favorites... Another one of her songs that I really love is Broken Wing...I went thru serious domestic abuse in marriage and a single relationship after I left my marriage. Broken wing holds a special place in my heart❤😢😊
Martina is a legend in Country Music and is known for doing these kind of songs to bring up awareness. Listen to God's Will, another great one from Martina.
Her catalog is massive with hits. She’s a super famous country music songwriter, singer probably my favorite song of hers is broken wings and Independence Day, but I could go on and on about how talented and brilliant of a vocalist she is.
I love that Martina McBride isn't afraid to sing about tough subjects. She has such a beautiful, strong voice. "Broken Wing" is another great song, as well as "Independence Day". Both of those songs are about breaking out of abusive situations.
BP, you're growing up my man and finding there's a whole new world of music styles to explore. Sometimes you read to much into them or don't understand the simple meaning of them but the more you watch and listen, the more you learn. Bless you my man because thru people like you the younger generation will learn and understand the roots of their music.
Martina is a country artist, mostly 90s country. My favorite artist. When this song came out it brought me to tears. Just breaks your heart knowing this really happens. I wish I could save all those babies from being abused. They don't deserve it.
Yep BP, you’re one of many of us. I have 2 daughters, they’re older now but we can’t protect them from everything and teach them how to take care of themselves and reach out. Take care of them when we can, support them and always tell them they always have a place to go, especially to talk. As they get older, they’ll need you as much, believe me. Being a dad doesn’t end at an age. Teach them to be themselves and that they can rule the world…
Sadly there just are not enough of fathers like you, BP and my own awesome husband. And you are 100% correct there is no end date on being a parent. The way we parent just has to evolve and grow as our children do.
This song always gets me. In my case it wasn't abuse that took my daughter, she and her mom were murdered. Growing up my mom had a large daycare, here in Wyoming. The abuse we saw there... some still haunts me 40+ years later. I highly recommend John Michael Montgomery - The Little Girl, make sure you watch the official one. It has a happier ending but still has a strong message.
in Hollywood's Forrest Hills Cemetery is a gravestone that says "our Concrete angel" It belongs to an actress from the 1980's who was in dozens of commercials , tv shows. But behind the scenes her father was severely abusive to her mom and her. She did two classic 80;'s animated movies, The Land Before Time and All Dogs go to Heaven. Her last recorded lines were "Goodbye Charlie, I love you" in "All Dogs." Her father shot her in the head while she slept then shot her mom and 2 days later set the bodies on fire and shot himself, It was a horrific case. She was 10 years old. CPS knew about the abuse but didn't act. Tons of people knew about it but did nothing. Even though she'd finished recording her lines for All Dogs before she died, Burt Reynolds still hadn't recorded his part of the final farewell scene where he (Charlie) says goodbye to her. it took him over 60 takes and complete solitude in the booth to get through the scene, he kept breaking down.
They had no family and no headstones for a long time until in the early 2000s there was a fundraising campaign to get her and her mom headstones. This song had come out by then, hence putting the title on the headstone.

To me one of the saddest lines ever in a song is " Sometimes she wishes she was never born"...omg; NO CHILD should ever have to feel this way😢❤

Martina is a legend in Country Music and is known for doing these kind of songs to bring up awareness. Listen to God's Will, another great one from Martina.
She got a lot of guff from the industry for Independence Day but stood her ground. I ❤ Martina ~
Her catalog is massive with hits. She’s a super famous country music songwriter, singer probably my favorite song of hers is broken wings and Independence Day, but I could go on and on about how talented and brilliant of a vocalist she is.
Martina’s voice is amazing!! You should hear “Anyway”. OMG the range she has in that one❤️
Martine has such a powerful and beautiful voice! One of the ever in country music in my personal opinion.
Goosebumps every single time goosebumps & tears
She's country. I absolutely love her voice. It makes me cry everytime. So much of this going on in the world. I wish I could protect them all😢😢😢
She has another equally powerful song ~'INDEPEDENCE DAY~ that deals with similar topic
Ok can’t stop crying this one got me too ❤
One of the saddest 😢.. but most beautiful songs.
By the way, the little boy is an angel. You must listen to Where Would You Be live from the Flameworthy Awards. It will blow you away
That little boy was an angel.
RIP to your family
in Hollywood's Forrest Hills Cemetery is a gravestone that says "our Concrete angel" It belongs to an actress from the 1980's who was in dozens of commercials , tv shows. But behind the scenes her father was severely abusive to her mom and her. She did two classic 80;'s animated movies, The Land Before Time and All Dogs go to Heaven. Her last recorded lines were "Goodbye Charlie, I love you" in "All Dogs."
Her father shot her in the head while she slept then shot her mom and 2 days later set the bodies on fire and shot himself, It was a horrific case.
I love this song. It's sad but her voice brings it to a level that you feel deep in your heart.
Independence Day is definitely next!!! Please watch
My husband and I watch you quite often. We appreciate your insight on music and life. May your angels watch over you and your family.
