If you stay with Martina then you must do Independence Day and Broken Wing. Both are heavy but signature songs of hers. For a few lighter ones by her try When God Fearing Women Get the Blues, This One’s for the Girls, and/or My Baby Lives Me. Moving away from Martina I would suggest Kathy Mattea. 16 Wheels and a Dozen Roses, Rocket, Where’ve You Been. Have tissues for Where’ve You Been.
Following this, you might review Brooks and Dunn's, "Believe". True life story of the Ronnie Dunn. Young boy with older man mentor. It's a solid song and gives hope.
I was that little girl over 60 years ago. No one talked about child abuse. There was no help for me. I survived by learning to leave the house by 7 AM, when my mother got off work. I would get myself up dressed to school. I would not go home until after 11 PM when she had to be at work. It wasn’t easy, but I’m still alive. I out lived my abuser, some would call my mother. Do not pity me. I survived! I’ve loved. I have known peace. I learned that no matter what happens, a person can survive with determination.
I’m so sorry you had to go through that. I’m glad you survived. I remember coming home and telling my mother things other kids were going through and being told that we shouldn’t talk about other peoples family business. I’m glad times have changed.
Everyone cry's when they hear this song , doesn't matter if it's the first time hearing it or the hundredth. It's a testament to how great this song is
Martina McBride has a very powerful voice that can pull the emotion right from your heart. If you want more from Martina, listen to the official video for the song A Broken Wing.
That’s the thing about Martina…besides being one of my all-time favorite female vocalists, I truly admire her boldness in singing about truly difficult topics. Another incredible song is “Independence Day”.
One thing that I have never forgotten what Martina McBride and Keanu Reeves did for me and several other children in the early 2000s. Was when they donated Christmas presents to us at the shelter we were staying at. It was one where they place children in state custody in between foster homes or just being removed from their homes. I was the oldest kid there that year. I had already been a fan of hers for several years before this. I had been a fan Keanu Reeves since he did Bill and Ted along with Parenthood. Besides this song another great one is God's Will. I'm Going To Love You Through It is also another wonderful one.
I can listen to this song with no problem but every time I watch the video, I can't make it passed the first line before the waterworks start. 💔😭 All of Martina's songs will get you. My favorites are Independence Day (my favorite Karaoke song🎤) and Broken Wing (as a domestic abuse survivor, I FEEL this one!) I highly recommend both! Great reaction and we totally understand the tears. 🥰🥰
That boy was a GUARDIAN ANGEL who befriended her. And after she was murdered by her mother he carried her to heaven to be with other children who were also abused.
This song never fails to bring me to tears 😭. Hope you have a nice day Maggie 💕. I'm a huge metal head but Martina McBride is my guilty pleasure. Another good song of her is I'm gonna love you through it. Serious tear jerker Also another song with a similar theme is Allsya lies by Jason Michal carol
Me personally I believe the little boy is an angel there to show her kindness before the end. He then leads her to other angels who are waiting there with open arms for her.
The name on the tombstone is Angela Carter. That's Martina McBride's niece. Who was beaten to death by her own mother when she was 7 years old. Which is why they show a woman abusing the little girl. Because it does happen.
People with kind hearts and souls are deeply affected by the song/lyrics/video. Take pride in the tears. It shows that you are human. Thank you for the reaction.
I'm 60 years old. During my life I have been an M1 Tank Commander, and retired from Corrections. I have seen things that have made me extremely ambivalent to human tragedy. I guess it's a coping mechanism or something. I have probably listened to this song at least 20 times. And each time I end up with tears streaming down my face. But I do have to say.... I'm glad no one made a big deal or called the police every time I showed up for grade school with bruises or scrapes. Gotta have empathy for teachers (at least the ones who care about kids and not about grooming them) trying to walk this tightrope balancing act.
When I fled my husband, the courts granted a protection order for our 3 children and me and then granted him unsupervised visitation. It took 8 1/2 years and everything I owned to stop visits in spite of the court's and his therapists begging the courts to stop it. The older 2 were beated on occassion and the youngest was neglicted like she didn't exist. I found this song during that time (early 2000s) and it still makes me cry. People did come forward to help and nothing mattered or stopped it. It ruined me for life (I'm on disability for PTSD) not to mention what it did to the now adult kids who barely function. This song is how I feel a lot of the times when trying to deal with memories. None of us died physically but emotionally... I'm glad you reacted to this one.
The boy who was a ghost of a child who was abused comes to her and in the final scene takes her to play with the ghosts of many other children who were also abused. It was only after her death that she was "taken to a place where she's loved". So sad. I don't know how anyone could watch that and not cry. I certainly cried and it definitely is not the first time I have seen this video. The lyrics are haunting and Martina's beautiful voice is just the crowning touch to this unforgettable song.
The most basic need we all have is the need to be loved, it's interesting that and heart touching is the lyrics that said that she could fly to place in which she can be loved. In the death of this little girl she is able to experience the FULLNESS OF LOVE. No one has the right to deny absolutely no one the love we all need because the way we treat other is the way we will be treated!
That little boy was an ANGEL with her through everything. And he was waiting for her to join the other kids that were victimized. I'm a big biker dude, this song makes me WEEP everytime I hear it
This makes me cry everytime. When I was younger I went through some abuse. But thank God that I had a friend I barley knew but he knew something was wrong and he got me to tell him. And I am glad I did. It was in a foster home after he found out I got out of their fast. So that young Man was my human Angel.
I'm a 50 year old guy in Southern Appalachia and just cried 100th time listening watching this.m it's a sign you have a soul no worries. You should see it concert 12000 people all crying.
Martina is probably the only artist that can make you friggin cry on almost any song she does.. her voice is so expressive. You hear all the pain, all the hope, all the excitement and all the joy no matter the song. I would love to see you react to her live performance of her CMA performance of
Today an Educator would be required to not only ask but to TELL. Guts me every time. Martina McBride- Love’s The Only House, Independence Day. As always- beautiful reaction & breakdown; Thank You! Stay safe & love much💖
you have such a good heart Maggie-why this affected you so much-luckily I responded only once to an abuse case as first responder and seeing it first hand shook me for a couple of days-the child in my case was ok in the end and given to new foster parents(relatives). The singing was lovely about a dark subject.
Martina McBride's been in the industry for a long time and has released music that touches on human experiences and themes especially ones that hit home like these for many. Independence Day, Broken Wings, etc. she's sung about different forms of hardship and with such voice that can carry the message across. The music video for this just elevates her message, doesn't it? Got me some tears 7am here in Guam. Cant believe this song was released 2002 and it still sounds timeless even in 2022.
I've been away awhile .... and come back to see you reacting to this. WOW. This was the first time I have ever seen you stop reacting/commenting on the singer. Once you saw what happened to the little girl you basically stopped critiquing the singing and got immersed in the video/story. An incredible reaction ... to an incredible song/video.
I'm so glad people are FINALLY, after years of vocal reaction culture, reacting to some of Martina Mcbride. I hope everyone catches on to her vocally challenging songs like Where Would You Be, How Far, Anyway, Whatever You say.
I haven’t heard this song in a long time, I’m actually sitting here crying. It is a wonderful reminder that children need someone who watch out for them . Thank you for sharing ❤️
Martina is one of those artists who has always confronted those difficult-to-talk-about topics in her music. It has made getting some things on the radio hard in her early years. She has always been a power house. I remember as a teen being entranced by her blue eyes.
Martina McBride is a beautiful singer. This song is so hard to listen to because anytime a child loses their life to abuse is such a sad reality. Years ago I lived in an apartment with a roomate and often heard screaming and crying coming from the apartment below us. We had seen the little girl before but never saw bruises. She was a very polite kid and acted like all was ok. One night we could not take it anymore because it sounded worse. My rommate and I called 911. Police came and her parents were taken away. Turned out that before that night the child suffered verbal abuse, but that night is escalated and she was hit. I am glad that we made that call. We found out later from the landlord that the girl was taken in by her grandmother who took great care of her.
This was one of two Martina McBride songs that tackled serious domestic issues. "Concrete Angel" tackles child abuse & "A Broken Wing" tackles domestic abuse. It's another powerful Martina song and you should react to, it will give you chills!
That is one of the most intensely beautiful songs. She is phenomenal. You need to go down her rabbit hole. Broken Wing, Where Would You Be and soooo many more
let the tears flow - don't feel bad about crying openly - the reason for the tears are strong. Your tears simply say you are human. This is a case where you should cry freely and be proud of it. [yes, I have joined you in tears - and for very good reasons]
The first time, I ever even heard of Martina McBride, she was performing as a fill in artist as the headliners took a break. It was in a Theater-in-The Round venue, with a rotating stage. Martina stepped on stage, on the opposite side from me (about 60 feet away) and her piercing blue eyes were striking, even at that distance. Her singing was absolutely captivating. I remember that performance, burned into me, yet, for the life of me, I can’t remember who I went to see!
Anything from Martina would be great, but Broken Wing is an absolute must watch. I had the privilege of hearing her sing that at the George Strait Cowboy Rides Away concert in San Antonio. Her performance of this is still one of the greatest I've ever heard. Simply stunning.
I love that you noticed the little boy go thru the people. A lot of people reacting look away and miss it. I always thought of the little boy as her guardian angel and he helped her as much as he could before he had to take her to her better place. ❤️
By far, this is the BEST reaction I have seen from you. This was a reaction more than explaining the video and then you talked about it after the video. This was my favorite video from you. Little secret, I actually teared up at the end of the song because of how you reacted.

No matter how many times I see this I weep. Too many kids and elders are treated so poorly. Be kind it never hurts anyone to be kind.
I'm a 50yr old Mtn man and it gets me almost every single time!..smh..from Wyoming USA 🇺🇸 🤠
It's free and if you have your mind heart or soul remotely right you win for doing something free
Right?? It is impossible to not shed a few tears
I just wish moms and dad loved their children because this hurt 🤕😭
we say in Ireland "it's nice to be nice and it cost nothing."

Such a powerful song. And an amazing reaction. Her song Independence Day is also powerful, talking about domestic abuse as well.
Martina McBride has a very powerful voice that can pull the emotion right from your heart. If you want more from Martina, listen to the official video for the song A Broken Wing.
Also Independence Day is a good one by her.
Probably the most heartbreaking part of the song for me is "A broken heart that the world forgot." Gets me every time.
Me Too!
Martina’s “Independence Day”
That little boy was her Guardian Angel, preparing her to go back home.
That’s the thing about Martina…besides being one of my all-time favorite female vocalists, I truly admire her boldness in singing about truly difficult topics. Another incredible song is “Independence Day”.

I'm not sure what's more amazing about Martina - her voice or her eyes. That blue doesn't exist anywhere else on this Earth.
The little boy is an angel, who visited her, became her friend, before she passed to the other side.
I can listen to this song with no problem but every time I watch the video, I can't make it passed the first line before the waterworks start. 💔😭 All of Martina's songs will get you. Judith Barsi's headstone says "OUR CONCRETE ANGEL. YUP! YUP! YUP!" She will always be Ducky to me. RIP to her beautiful soul
This song never fails to bring me to tears 😭. Hope you have a nice day Maggie 💕.

I cry every time I see this. I'm 47 years old and still. I don't know how Martina made it through this song.

He was her guardian angel…..this was written about a true event in Martina’s life. I think it was her niece.
The little boy was her angel to be there fir her and to take her home to heaven.
Martina wrote this as a tribute to her nice, this was her nice’s story.
Martina McBride and her songs are amazing , independence day is another , love Martina sooo much
Three songs that really show off her vocals are "Broken Wing," "Where would you be," and "How Far".
An older song by Martina McBride is "Independence Day" where you get to hear her belting out, but she never gets hoarse or screechy.
When I fled my husband, the courts granted a protection order for our 3 children and me and then granted him unsupervised visitation. I think I love evert yime I see your reaction to this, I'm 65 and tear up every time.
That's what concrete angel is the tombstone of angels, she flies a place where is she is loved (heaven,)
Martina has always been my favorite female artist cuz she always hits at real life issues.

Your response was perfect.
Martina is incredible & is also Gorgeous
That's the name of Martina niece on that Tombstone Rock who died from child abuse at a young age
Martina can SANG! I love all her songs.
Thank you for reacting to this video to spread awareness.
My pleasure
Listen to "a broken wing" and "God's will" both by Martina McBride. You'll cry again. The little boy is an angel sent to bring her home.

I like it better when these people see it for the first time. When you sing it with the artist it’s obvious you seen it before.
Her live performance of "Where Would You Be?" is impressive.
I love that song and performance.
"Oh My Lord!"
I'm in 😢 tears!

I cry every single time I hear this song, she has so much emotional pull.
You have a human heart. So many people no longer do.
Wonderful honest reaction.
Thanks so much! 🤗
Wonderful review - I cried my eyes out too (Alyssa Lies - song has the same theme did it to me too) Country doesn't hide from hard topics
Anything from Martina would be great, but Broken Wing is an absolute must watch. I had the privilege of hearing her sing that at the George Strait Cowboy Rides Away concert in San Antonio. Her performance of this is still one of the greatest I've ever heard. Simply stunning.
This song is beautiful, but the video is so heartbreaking!
And, you are right, Martina's voice is angelic. Love her!
I love that you noticed the little boy go thru the people. A lot of people reacting look away and miss it. I always thought of the little boy as her guardian angel and he helped her as much as he could before he had to take her to her better place. ❤️
crying ... beautiful
This is where the message supersedes her beautiful voice.
By far, this is the BEST reaction I have seen from you. This was a reaction more than explaining the video and then you talked about it after the video. This was my favorite video from you. Little secret, I actually teared up at the end of the song because of how you reacted.
Thank you for your sweet comment. 🤗
Love it...your voice is beautiful.
It is amazing to hear her in person...she has such a HUGE voice for such a small woman. She's like 5'4" and such a tiny petite woman who belts out like she's 15' tall.
This song was written for her niece who was killed by her mother, Martina's sister. The gravestone in the video is her niece's stone.
This video has been in my playlist for a long time and is always a reminder to look closely and not to remain silent. Those who remain silent about child abuse are 100% complicit!
Absolutely beautiful reaction, I cry every time I see it, but the end when she joins the other angel children, my heart soars.
This song has me close to sobbing every time. Martina is so good at bringing out emotion in people.
Don't worry Maggie, I cried everytime I've watched that video.
Hm. So was the boy dead the entire time, she befriended an angel boy? And when she died, she joined him and the other dead kids?
The boy was her guardian angel. He was sent to assist her on her journey to a new life with God.
They were other children who lost their lives too soon 💔
The little boy is an angel
we all cried with you....Martina is amazing...thank you
One of the best voices out there!
I have heard this song 100 times and 100 times I had a ter in my eye. As a former abused child I have dedicated my life to helping those that are in need.
I really can't hear this song without crying
Anyone who isn't moved by this song lacks basic humanity. I've watched it dozens of times and it brings tears to my eyes every single time.
Martina was the art this song needed.
The little boy is a angel.
I cried too! It is good to see you emotional...it means you're human !
Her song : with a broken wing : will blow you away.
