The song was written in 2002 to bring awareness for kids who are dealing with child abuse this song affected more than just Martina herself affected a lot of us out there that dealt with situations that we either were the person who turned somebody in because of abuse or were abused And I thank you for watching and reacting to this powerful message this song

So sad. Statistically at least four children die from neglect and/or abuse everyday in the US. I don’t understand how anyone could harm a child. It’s heartbreaking. There’s always talk about protecting the weak but it seems children are left out of that. There’s no way we can have a good, peaceful society when we can’t even protect/love the most vulnerable. It’s beyond heartbreaking and is infuriating!

I don’t work in healthcare I do respite and habilitation care for kids with developmental disabilities. I’m a mandatory reporter because of my job. I’ve been a mandatory reporter on some level since I was 16. The hardest part about this is when you do report things and CPS just sits on their derrières. I’ve seen CPS/DCS caseworkers go in and look for bruises, food and clothes and that’s it. If there’s plenty of food in the home, clothes on their backs and no bruises, it’s assumed that the kids are fine. Then when the workers leave the abuse gets worse. Why make people mandatory reporters if nothing is going to be done? These poor babies are being brought into this world only he treated like last week’s garbage their whole lives.

The line about the teacher being reluctant to help... THIS is what people forget when they say teachers should "not keep secrets from parents" or "stay out of the family's business", because they aren't looking at this big picture. Teachers keeping a kid's secrets, or getting involved in their business, could LITERALLY save their lives, in cases of abuse and/or neglect.

    • @mcrchickenluvr

Teachers are mandatory reporters. So the fact that she didn’t report it makes her just as guilty. She may not have physically hurt the little girl but she failed her in that she didn’t do that part of her job. Yes I’m speaking in the sense as if this was based on a true story. Though I think the song is.

My husband and I are foster parents. I knew that boy would be my husband someday because this song came on the radio while we were driving and he had to pull over. His parents have been foster parents since he was 5. I was adopted, my bio mom is amazing and I love her so much. She was craving drugs the entire time she was pregnant with me and tried really hard to not have a medicated birth. She knew she couldn't stay clean and surrendered me in what was supposed to be an open adoption. My first adoptive parents brought me to child services before they were open when I was 4 and left me there. We think they are in Canada. Anyways, it was all part of God's plan. I got adopted again by the same people who adopted my older brother and my baby brother (My bio mom was sober but the Stare still stole him and didn't give her a chance. Her first husband died when my oldest brother was 6 and my bio mom got into drugs.) Anyways, my adoptive parents never made my bio brother forget who his bio mom is and when she was sober, she got to be a part of our lives again.
My husband and I are foster parents and we have seen horrible stuff. We have also been blessed to foster little ones while their parents are getting the help they need. We knew while we were dating that fostering was something we both wanted to do.
Most States now have mandated reporting and teachers have to say something.
I didn't know until I was watching this video with my adoptive daddy...the little boy in the video is an angel. All of the little ones she runs off to play with are angels.
I could never ever ever imagine hurting little ones.

The saddest part is the child could have been the thing that, in a life a sucky choices, brings light and joy. The parent failed, but the teacher... when she looks back and realizes all the signs she ignored would either carry the guilt forever, or worse, find a way to justify doing nothing. Protecting children is supposed to be in our DNA but we've let society's rules override us..

Children are a blessing. Not everyone who wants kids is blessed with a child. As one of those people who wasn’t blessed, it boggles my mind that there are people who don’t cherish that blessing.
I agree that child abuse really makes me angry. And, after 23-years, you would hope a song with a message like this wasn’t still a problem. But, I think the problem is getting worse, not better. And, that breaks my heart.
If you can handle a tear-jerker movie that touches on this subject, I recommend “The Book of Henry”.
Another, that is about showing compassion for strangers in need, another tear-jerker, is “Pay It Forward”.
I tear-up just thinking about those movies. They are so powerful in the message they send.
A lighter movie with a good message is “Evan Almighty”. Do you know what Ark stands for?
    Act of
    Random
    Kindness
Our world needs so much more of that!

Martina released this song on November 2002. The supposed death took place 2002(no date given )
However, Martina actually recorded this in 2001 🤔
Stephanie Bentley published this song in 1997 but it took her two years to write so she started in 1995 (the niece wasn’t even born, or just)
Also she said she was inspired to write it about a child she read about in the newspaper whose mother had k!lled her.
Unless she was psychic or had a time machine to write about things that wouldn’t happen for 7 more years…
Or Martina knew about it the year before it happened…

Martina also recorded it in 2001. The year before this supposed death. Crystal ball? 🤷‍♀️

This song was written by Martina about her own 7 year old niece ,, the head stone is her neices actual stone..
Martina's sister killed her own child.

@@Robert-rh7cl Hard to be about her 7 year old niece when she was only 2 years old when Stephanie Bentley finished writing and published it in 1997. She may not have even been born when she started writing it in 1995.
Btw, Martina recorded this for her album in 2001, the year before this supposed death. But, the lack of articles about an arrest or trial should have been clue enough to question it. 🤷‍♀️

Worst part about this song is it happened to a family member of hers. That's why it was written. And unfortunately happens to way too many other children.
