SUMMARY:
- If the dog wags his tail slowly, this means he doesn’t understand what’s going on.
- A tucked tail is a sign that the dog is scared, afraid of pain, or feels uncomfortable. Most often, the dog tucks his tail between his legs when he is really afraid of something or someone.
- When you approach an unfamiliar dog, it’s better to avoid looking directly into his eyes. For dogs, staring at the eyes means aggression.
- The ears are standing straight up or inclined forward. The dog is showing you that he’s curious and reacting to some new event in his environment.

Actually, if you get a new pup, TOUCH HIS FOOD. Let him know that you won’t steal it, when the pup’s small touch his food while he eats so when he’s an adult he won’t attack you if he sees you near his food as he will know you won’t take it away from him. If you let him get used to dominating his food and not letting anyone near it, he will become aggressive when it comes to food.

Thanks for this comment. I have only had 2 dogs in my lifetime. 1 a boxer who lived to be 12 and I now own a 1 year old Alaskan malamute. When they were puppies I always touched their food and would pet them.

A lot of times after I start petting my dog she licks her lips and squints her eyes with a happy face. I think that means she likes it. It's hard for me to use these pointers with my dog because she was raised in a house full of cats before she came to me and it certainly shows in her behavior lol. I love her all the same though

Right on, learn to read your dogs! Dogs can also shake themselves when transitioning from one task to another, or deciding "OK, so I won't chase that cat, time to move on", or the like. People can be seen doing the same thing - shaking their head briefly to clear it, to put something behind them. -- Also, yawning: can be a sign of confusion or disorientation. It often shows a bit of discomfort. You can see yawning dogs on quite a few TH-cam posts.

Yes! A dog should never growl when the owner, the alpha (hopefully), approaches. There are a lot of great ways to prevent and curb food aggression-- humanely.
...by dropping more food into the bowl. Carefully though, start by putting it on the ground to not get too close. You being close while eating will become a good thing.
My dog stops eating then I even look at his food because he thinks I want it. He would just let me eat it and it makes him feel uncomfortable if I watch him eating so he waits till I go away to continue eating lol

My mom had adopted 25 street dog ..and now they were in our house for last 8 years ...some die and some gave birth to new puppies . So our dog average is 25 all time ....and my mom can understand all needs of dogs for ex when the are hungry ,when they want to go for walk , when they are sick ,when they want to play....all small needs ..and she take care of all ....and we feel a very positive energy in our home by having dogs ....

My dog never growled at us. He didn’t care if we came close to him while he was eating. :) he was the best dog ever.
Both my dogs are the same way. My older dog r takes thyroid medications and sometimes I forget to put it in her bowl right away and I add it while she's eating and there's no problem. She has Standing up ears & my younger dog has floppy ears so I've learned to know what they mean by whether their ears are turned in or pulled back etc.
Australian Shepherds will bare their teeth when they are happy or playful sometimes... this is called the 'aussie grin'

My dog does this as well does that thing with his teeth but shows no aggression its always after i get done after a long day of just not being home. Could this be a sign of happiness. There is a very big difference from rhis compared to when he sees someone ride up in the yard when hes barking and growling plus the way he shows his teeth is completely different shape wise.

This video was interesting and the cartoons were good examples of the explanation, but I think it could've been a bit more helpful if it included a short video showing off a real dog doing the suggested action as well. But all in all, it's a great video!
When my dog want attention she'll sit next to me and stare at me. When I look at her she'll look away for a second then look back like 'Noooo I wasn't looking, why are you looking??' Then she'll put her paw on me. This may have previously been a dominant thing but she's learnt that when she does that she's given attention so now she does the looking away thing again. She's my pride and joy so I probably will pet her. If I stop petting she'll put her head under my whatever arm is closest and force my arm up and walk until my hand is on her head. It's adorable really.

my dad taught my dog to not over react when her food is taken away, so if a little kid takes it away for some reason she doesn't attack. she also lets people per her when she eats. all she does is follow you where you go with the food.

Showing teeth doesn't always mean bad. Some dogs are very smiley when they're happy or exited. My dog always do this really teethy grin when familiar people come to our home or I'm getting ready to go for a walk with her or when we do something fun together like learn new tricks.
But always ask from an owner if you wanna approach a dog showing teeth and wagging its tail because all dogs are different and the owner knows best what's the dogs mood at that moment.

My puppie's Mama ( No not being racial or "Gendercist" Here. I still call my Mama mama... So nigh!.. ) also does that teeth grin thing, but she isn't being dominate, And my puppie's brother also does that. I hardly ever even see my puppy do that I think. Or at all.. I only saw it twice. the other 2 do it Wayyy more often I think. I'm not sure. XD.
My dog grins when I am taking photos of her XD She's very photogenic. Like she poses. Sits pretty. Then gives me her big teethy grin haha

The food thing is a double edged sword if you are afraid to show your dog that you control the food then the dog is showing its dominance over you. When it’s a puppy it’s important to build a bridge of trust with the food ask the dog to sit and lay before giving the food, take the food away from the dog then praise the dog and give the food back so it knows people won’t steal its food when they are around it, then give praise when you return the food to reward the good behavior. I might be wrong but it’s worked for me.

I just got a Shelty puppy about a week ago hes tail never moves is slightly under but the more research i did i was told Shelties dont move their tail often its common on the breed and here i thought it hated me but turns out just the way he is.
