- Earlier this year, Crysta Abelseth said Barnes, the man she accuses of raping her, was given full custody of her daughter. A judge then reportedly ordered her to pay him child support.
On Tuesday, Judge Jeffrey Cashe temporarily reversed his decision. WBRZ-TV reporter Chris Nakamoto, one of the investigative reporters who broke the story weighs in on NewsNation's "Banfield."

It’s a notorious problem in the parishes...there was a case a few years ago that blew up because a judge was having an affair with a police detective and when they broke up she started denying all police motions to get back at him.
it was admitted that the man was connected so to speak... because the judge was told this man was a good and truthful man (based on the WORD of someone close to him. ) AND that the mother was a liar and a bad woman) ..... simply based on the WORD OF A DIFFERENT MAN THAT WAS FRIENDS WITH THE JUDGE ... You’d know that she did say something in court when he first came after her for custody. He had connections. And you’d know that the daughter WAS trying to get into contact with the mother and was telling everyone around her that she wanted to get out of the house. He got full custody and took her only use of contact for help. And sadly they already have medical evidence that he had been drugging and raping/ molesting his own daughter and that’s a separate case from the mother’s. The mothers age was clearly documented on paper giving birth at 16 which means he actually probably raped and molested the mother at 15 when he was in his 30’s. Then he took her back to court a few years later getting full custody of the girl because the mom let her have a cell phone. Yes, he got full custody over a cell phone. The mom when she was 16 went to a bar with friends and a fake ID. He said she told them she was a college student.
During an interview the mom was asked if anyone asked her how old she was. She said 'No one directly asked me my age but I think they knew' (this may not be a direct quote but paraphrased). I think she said there were people at the bar that knew her but she can't prove the dad knew how young she actually was. He said it was consensual and not rape.
I honestly don't know if this is one of those cases like the girl lies so she won't look bad. It's been over a decade and she's sticking to it. But the narrative of the guy being just a pedo rapist doesn't exactly fit. It's unfair to the guy that people/news don't mention the details because it makes the mom look kind of like a villian rather than a victim. And without the context makes the judge seem like a deranged/sick psycho pedo sympathizer. They all suck equally in some way or the other.
The judge changing his decision makes me think he doesn't care about any of those people or the teen and just wanted to get out of the hot seat. To choose the alleged pedo dad seems like the kind if decisions one would double down on rather than switch up so easily. (It's just so darn weird)

@@EmmaDee Ok he is a family court judge. In 2011 he went by the information in front of his. The mom & her lawyer and a paternity case. (No criminal charges for rape or allegation). DNA was requested from Barnes and the boyfriend who was just sent to prison. That boyfriend for the first 5yrs thought he was the Dad and was listed on the birth certificate. DNA result come back Barnes as the father. At that point her and her lawyer do not file a criminal charge against Barnes instead they work out visitation and child support. The family court to that point as to assume her parents consented. (That is the law in Louisiana). So it is the judge's responsibility to handle what is in front of him legally. Even though he could obviously see and age difference.
So your opinion is yours, but it is just incorrect opinion. She now has had 5 lawyer to this point, why didnt the first 4 file a criminal charge? She filed a statement and we see how well that went in 2015.

Different states have different rules. I'm In Louisiana and my parish judges will listen to kids and consider what they want, but they can't decide on their own which parent they want to live with until the age of 15. But I agree on a 16-year-old girl should be able to make that decision on which parent she wants to be with. Also, I don't understand how she ended up in the custody of a rapist her dad, or not especially being he was a pedophile I believe at the time of her mother's rape he was way older than her. The system is completely broken!!

It is not unlikely for him to end up on the Sex Offender Registry even if he never goes to jail. The saying is 15 will get you 20. Well in this state 16 is the age. The birth certificates and DNA make a compelling case. It all comes down to the statuette of limitations. Pleading out and accepting what he can get would not be unlikely. Giving up custody as part of the agreement in a criminal case. It just seems like the judge central to this case really screwed up. Losing custody over a cell phone. Cell phones require registration and payment of monies. You can prove who is responsible for what quite easily. It is time to take a look at the totality of this case and review the sheriff, judge, and other officials involved in this.
And there's the whole new layer of the dirtbag raping his own daughter now. He should be held accountable for all of it and paying for the things that went to court when he absolutely knew they were wrong. Paying for the courts time on 2 or 3 time dealing with custody, child support, pain and suffering for both Mom and daughter, counseling, going to and from court, time off of work. In January, she told her guidance counsellor that she thought she'd beendrugged and raped by him, 2 nights in a row. She was examined at the hospital and it was determined that there had been signs of forced penetration and other injuries that indicated a sexual assault had occurred. I can only imagine how horrific that must be both her and her mother to cope with. I hope that they are open to receiving psychological treatment, both individually and together, so that they can recover emotionally from this tragic ordeal.
According to an interview with the mother and a report, he allegedly already sexually assaulted her twice. In the report, it mentions the daughter going to a hospital and the doctors confirming forced entry.
And according to another comment in this video, he would sneak into the bathroom while she was showering. Thank goodness he’s not with her anymore and I hope he gets a death sentence at worse
Unfortunately I believe that he has, if you look under other videos about this story apparently thr q6 year old had a rape kit done and they found signs of forced penetration. She believes that her father drugged her and raped her.

The sheriff will not be locked up. His brother is the governor of Louisiana… he made our life hell during the pandemic. A pastor friend of my family wouldn’t stop having church during the pandemic…even though Walmart and bars were open. He arrested this man at church…had him handcuffed in front of his congregation. Then fined him $25000 every time he had church. The governor recently was ordered by the Supreme Court to drop all charges and I believe to void the money the pastor was made to pay. Interesting life our Democratic Edwards live…

I don’t know, if you read the whole case. Everything sounds fishy. The mom requested paternity tests from this guy and another man in jail. Then she agreed to have joint custody after it was confirmed that this guy was there dad.
Then she said she was rapd. But like years later. She also met this guy at a bar where she allegedly had a fake Id.

This is so upsetting and all I cld think about is the daughter and the mother. I am not surprised that they took custody from the rapist esp with allegations of him abusing the daughter. Thank you to all the media, esp you Chris, that got this out there and possibly saved this young woman and give the momma the justice she has deserved for years!!

The mother isn't innocent. Also, very likely was not rape. People are so stupid to make a judgement without actually going thru the scenario of what could have happened that night. Remember she was in a bar drunk being an adult, so someone lied about age probably showing fake ids. She was with friends so why leave her friends or why did her friends let her go? She found a man she wanted to play. And because afraid of mommy and daddy called it rape.
Then, when the kid is 4 or so, he discovers that HE is the father of this kid via the mother, wouldn't you guess?
From 4 to 10 he is a part of the kids life, wanting to be more involved yet denied by the mother, he files for JOINT custody, which he gets.
Only then does the mother file a rape accusation against the dude to try and stop the joint custody, it failed.
From 10 to 16 he raises her jointly with the mother. At 16, only 2 years from adulthood, the guy presses for FULL custody, perhaps due to something his daughter/daughter's mother said or did.
There is SO much more to this story that is not being mentioned that if it were to come out, some of these folks would back off their previous comments or flat out change their minds.
I will reserve further comments until more information is available...if I'm still interested.
