- A Louisiana sheriff released a statement Thursday saying his office "absolutely dropped the ball" on a rape investigation.
Crysta Abelseth says she met John Barnes, the man who allegedly raped her, at a bar in Louisiana on Dec. 15, 2005. She was only 16, and he was 30.

He had no evidence that she didn't reach out, but said it anyway. It seems the sheriff and the rapist think when they say something, that's evidence enough! But the poor mother had several pieces of evidence regarding her daughter's assault by her father, but she was called a list. Even the evidence that she reported her own rape, the judge said he didn't believe her about being raped, when all you have to do is look at a calendar! She was 15 or 16; so even if she had consented it's still a sexual assault. She was too young to consent! The rapist was stupid to go after full custody. Hell most likely, with another agency and judge involved, will go to jail, hopefully for both, for a very long time!

The interview last night claimed the daughter believes she was drugged and ra**d by the dad two nights in a row. She was taken to a hospital in New Orleans and a dr confirmed there had been an assault there, but we don’t know the rest of the story. There is a case pending in July regarding the rest of the story.

When you report a crime I would think the police then look into it, I have never known a case that the police expect the victim to follow up on it... If you watch all the videos, it tells you it was reported, and the police messed up.. Also that a judge may have made it go away for the criminal.. xx

Ah, the "good ol' boy" system. I've experienced this sort of thing myself and what can you do? When justice fails you what can you do?
Name all those entities and individuals as defendants in the case that refuse to acknowledge this case exists or keep avoiding responding.

Every man who "dropped the ball" on this case needs to be in jail so that they will think twice before "dropping the ball " again. It's really sickening how males think they can just take our bodies and do as they please and now force us to have babies and then take them from us.
And now the 16 year old daughter had to go to the hospital to get a rape test done because she felt that her father drugged her and raped her two nights in a row and the doctor confirmed that there was evidence that she was raped. It was obvious that this evil man who raped a 16-year-old would get his biological daughter through court custody for the simple, vile and evil purpose to also rape her like he raped her mother.
Pretty sure the mother didn't say she was forced to have her child. Pretty sure she considers her daughter a blessing in her life, seeing as how she's fighting for custody back...
@@pwit4186 she wasn't forced to give birth? She was raped and became pregnant from that rape. She may not have aborted the pregnancy because of lack of money, fear ect. She wouldn't have had to make a choice if the grown man didn't rape the child.
@@ms.demeanors well, since I haven't heard the mother say she was forced, you are speculating she was... abortion was legal 16 years ago, so she did have that option and did not choose it. Since she has said her rapist wasn't involved for first decade, one could logically assume he did not force her to have said child (or he would have started his disgusting power control/custody torment earlier). You re making alot of assumptions. At end of day, you have no idea if she was "forced" to give birth because she has not stated she was. You are projecting because it fits a narrative or perception you have about rape victims who become pregnant. And your assumptions are dangerous and hurtful to many rape survivors who chose to keep and live their baby, and to the child themselves.

From what I read it seems like almost 2 months before she lost full custody and had to pay him child support he had did sexually assaulted her 15-year-old daughter back to back two times in a row back in late February and a hospital report stated that there was forcible sexual assault and penetration. In addition the court dismissed that is not strong enough evidence for this to be taken seriously. Not to mention the fact that the daughter had told her that she possibly have been drugged twice during those times
How is it that a judge or jury sided with the rapist . When Doctors with scientific proof behind them had enough evidence to stop this monster is baffling.
@@nancydrew1102 when you have a man who sexually assaulted a girl when she was let's be honest here she got pregnant at 15 and gave birth is 16 and the man pretty much knew that he wanted to know what was going on with her life and the fact that he found that he had a child from this he saw this as the more perfect opportunity to interject himself into her life even more. And now that you have reports and even hospital documentation saying that her daughter was sexually assaulted forcibly and her daughter thought that she was drugged and sexually assaulted that means this man knew what he was doing her daughter doesn't want anything to do with him and the court of basically saying we know he sexually assaulted you but we're just going to make him be the father anyway and be in the child's life because she needs to be with her father. I wouldn't be surprised if the judge and him go way back and I wouldn't be even more surprised if the judge isn't recalled. Think about it the sheriff comes out and basically says we knew this was going on we just didn't take it seriously but it's still her fault for not reporting it 16.

What they’re not saying is how he was a web designer. One of his top customers was the same police department responsible for investigating the rape. As for the judge, an immediate resignation would suffice.

@@buyerbware25 A cell phone would be a way for the girl to call for help and alert the media. Were the pictures sent by the daughter of the father's actions and if she has been actually sexting it is indicative of possible exposure to improper behavior.
@@buyerbware25 It is stated clearly in the news report that the mother did NOT give her child a new cell phone. As per her cell phone record there is no evidence.
Them trying to act like it was the responsibility of the victim to follow up in order to get them to do their job….It indicates what their attitude in that office is about rape cases-they think they can get away with just blaming victims in one way or another and then not do the work they should do.

How in the entire hell? The cops, the judge were all in on it and should be investigated by the FBI. This is disgusting and disturbing.

Good job covering this case. Don't stop examining what happened. We only have the word of the sheriff that it had not happened before. This is not merely a case of dropping the ball. It is a case of not finding the situation important enough to ensure the proper handling of the crime. Someone needs to investigate all of the agencies involved for dereliction of duty. Hold your nose on this one.
