  • COO of GoodLife Fitness Jane Riddell enjoys making a difference in people's lives through fitness. From coast to coast, one in every 45 Canadians is a GoodLife member. Creativity and new programs for member and employee retention are necessary to be competitive in the gym crowd. Without this, profitability could flounder. Jane immerses herself in the gym scene to gain new insight. As an undercover boss, she works as a Zumba instructor trainee, a maintenance worker and salesperson, whose competitive skills may not be up to snuff. Later, when she witnesses employee dedication wavering, she must exercise her covert operation skills.[11]

    Anybody else notice that the bosses on the Canadian version are so much cheaper than the US version? US bosses be like, “here’s a check for $150,00 or $20,000 with an all expenses paid vacation “ and then the Canadian version is like “here is $5,000 and more training”

    I worked at good life in 2011 after college, it was a horrible experience at the location I was placed! Although some people iv talked to said it got a lot better and they try not to over saturate certain gyms with trainers now. There IS growth in Goodlife, but I feel if you are able to start training on your own and make a living that is a way better way to do it.

    Loool when you get hired there they make you read Patch's autobiographical novel. They pay next to nothing, often expect you to work for free. 2 hours of cold calls a day. 1 hour of conference calls with other clubs. They'd often drop us off in public places to harass people about coming to the gym. Each of these trips you're expected to bring back 10 "tour" appointments for the next day. The worst thing: They want you to emotionally manipulate people into joining. Even if you can get the sign up through a respectful and logical sales pitch, they instruct you to ask questions like: "How would your husband look at you differently if you lost the weight?" They want you to break the customer down. Personal trainers don't even get paid to be on-site unless they are training. Only good thing I can say about Goodlife? It was so terrible it taught me to be an aggressive and confident sales person with absolutely no shame.

      Wanting better every day is a sign of being competitive.
      That guy, however, was really easy to understand and has drive that ya can't teach. Her criticism there seemed unwarranted. He's a guy that looks to move in company position. That to business people always makes them think a person want their job.
      The fact the other guy has to use his personal vehicle to maintain and move equipment and maintain gyms is an incredible oversight by that company too.

      @GetLikeMe909 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hey! Former top 10%, JUMP! associate here! There are no child:adult ratios as we were not classified as an actual daycare. It was referred to as "child minding" & thats how they got around the ratio & other childcare standards. If we became overwhelmed & needed help , we were told to call in one of the motivators from the front. However, they would get mad & take an obscene amount of time to actually come help. The amount of time it would take them to drag their butts to the JUMP! room could be detrimental at times. Unfortunately due to covid the JUMP program has been removed & goodlife is now mediocre-life.

    At 42 minutes she says I'm like a million other people. That's the entire point of Undercover Boss. It's showcasing talent that's one in a million. It's showing that these people aren't prideful and don't even realize how awesome they are and it's a way for company execs to say, you're worth more than you know. While the dollar signs are emotional at times it's the human condition between white collar and blue collar that destroys that boundary.

    I must say I do like Good Life but they have some serious issues.
    If the gym is closing at 7 they turn off the music at 6:30 and start yelling for people to get out.
    The music system is turned up so low that you have to strain your ears to know if its on, biggest problem with that is people bring in speakers with rap and Indian music.
    Some equipment has never worked properly since day one, cables fray to the point of failure before they are fixed.
    The water in the cold dunk is literally green and constantly has floaters.
    Mens washroom and change room smells like a sewer.
    My gym said they would have an outdoor workout area when they opened and almost 2 years later non.
    The B.O. from some people in the gym will make you run in the other direction.
    A friend of mine got ringworm from one of the benches.
    People are allowed to work out in bare feet.

    Joined Good life. What I was told was not what I got. The guy that signed me up was moved so I couldn't even talk to him face to face about his lies. Went from full service to next to nothing. And price doubled. Rip offs. TORONTO. And one of the staff treats me with contempt because I expect to get what was promised to me before singing. Let say not happy would not recommend.one more thing Jacuzzi broken for week now. Health issues can only use pool for now.

    Just froze my account from the red deer shop. So unwelcoming. Fort saskatchewan is amazing, great people. In red deer it feels like most the staff is focused on their next steroid injection rather than making people feel welcome. They could at least say hello. Also, the steam room is always broken in red deer

    alot of banks now advise clients to open a separate account for their gym memberships..due to their horrible record of double billing and continued with drawls from your account after memberships have either been cancelled or expired.....i don't give a shit about who she screws .cheap bastards,they give them exactly what the government gives them as maximum tax deductions for the business..these aren't gifts. they're tax deductions every one of them.

    • @godzilla0083
      @godzilla0083 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Basically a lot of the Goodlife staff won't show you the ropes to help get started. They stand around doing nothing. Personal training cost a fortune. Plus there membership rate is seriously very high. $50-$70 and up. Most gyms these days costs about $25 and down. And Goodlife Fitness is charging an arm and a leg?! What's going on with this gym? By the way the don't even clean there bathroom/locker rooms.

    • @bradwasson4960
      @bradwasson4960 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      what? 29$ is the standard all across Canada rate?? what gym are you going to? I'm sure if you asked a staff member how a piece of equipment worked they would be happy to show you as they are all members themselves.

    • @godzilla0083
      @godzilla0083 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I go to a World Gym my friend and the staff does tell you how a piece of equipment works. Goodlife doesn't. All the staff does is talk, scam and more talk. They don't give a damn in making sure you get a good work out. People have goals in mind and yet Goodlife charges them a huge fee just to meet those goals with shady personal training.
