    "Unskilled labor" is often very skilled labor requiring sometimes years of experience. We need to stop assuming people in offices are "skilled" and people scrubbing operating rooms are "unskilled"

      The guys who clean and care for the horses at the barn are more important by far than the trainers who teach at the barn. If all trainers quit tomorrow, the barn might lose boarders, but animal care would still be great. If every one of the guys quit tomorrow, the barn would immediately be launched into chaos, and it would be a real struggle to replace them. And yet the trainers make more, and the guys are frequently looked at as lesser.

      She is talking net take home pay. She is after all a janitor which, well important, required no education and is usually a fairly low paid position.

    • @carolynsinclair-mccalla9719
      @carolynsinclair-mccalla9719 2 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      @@RogersMgmtGroup Yes, while a janitorial job doesn't necessarily require a formal education it does require"education", which is clearly evidenced by the fact that one must be taught how to carry out the work effectively. Also, the impact of the work on the overall wellbeing of those who carry out the work from "educated" posts is significant. What COVID-19 did was highlight what was always true about the significance of the work of janitors: they aren't just arranging and cleaning space. The end result of their work well done is to safeguard the health of those who inhabit the buildings/spaces they clean. For a person in a hospital environment, the best doctor operating in a poorly maintained room can be the difference between life and death. We take a lot for granted and have very faulty definitions of worth. What is the basis for justifying someone making less than what is necessary to live in her society? What is it? Especially, when this person occupies several hours of each day in meaningful labor? There is none. We have to stop rationalizing away what is a clear violation of human rights. A fair wage shouldn't be polemical. It's basic. Really.

A lot of her OCD stuff could be tied into her past of having an abusive relationship, maybe her ex-husband used to get angry at her if things weren't perfect, or maybe she does it as a way to control something in her life. I don't see why it's such a big deal.

      I would LOVE to have that woman as the cleaner in my office. If she was down on her knees scrubbing the little lines on the metal sill of the elevator doors at 9AM because she didn't finish the work before the building opened - and she was billing those hours - then OK, something is wrong. But that woman makes sure that the employees in that place come into a 'magically' clean space every. single. day. They never have to see so much as a fingerprint. And you know what? It's that level of cleanliness that makes the office pleasant to work in, that tells clients, 'this business is doing well,' that helps keep employees healthy and keeps vermin out of the building AND helps keep everything in the building in good condition while ALSO being a way to alert maintenance staff if something is not working, wearing out (electrical cables, etc.), jammed, leaking and so on. If she goes in to clean the restroom and a toilet is running and won't flush - that's a call to maintenance that employees in the office may think is not their job to report. I have HUGE gratitude for those silent, invisible people who keep all our lives running smoothly behind the scenes and while we sleep, whether it's police or snow-clearing people or people running the power grid, people fixing the street and the sewers, people servicing the coffee machine or filling the snack machine at work... there are just SO MANY THINGS we totally take for granted and don't realize there are very hard-working, usually not well-paid people out there day after day, sometimes in terrible weather, just making sure that the traffic flows and the water runs and the garbage goes away and the sidewalk is safe and the milk is not beyond its sell-by date and the floor is not slippery, and on and on. Sometimes I walk down the street looking at the paving-stones and realizing that each one of those stones or bricks was laid in place by hand, by a guy on his knees in all kinds of weather, positioning the stone and pounding it in place...and there are thousands of pavers... We walk over and over-look the hard work of so many people every day, unconscious of all the people we owe a debt to for every detail of our convenience and health and safety. Bless them and pay them well!

      When the cost of recycling becomes lower than making new we will see improvements.

    • @sethseth9059
      @sethseth9059 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Shut the fuck up you clown. I own three businesses. Two of them are seasonal and one is in marketing. I pay a twenty dollar minimum. The seasonal ones are the least profitable for me personally but they are profitable and I could live easily off either. They do provide a living wage for my employees as well and both summer and winter contracts are very sustainable and a good value for my customers. The marketing business allows even more flexibility for everyone involved. Yes I could gouge labor like my competition paying them the least I could get away with. The problem as you see it is I'm not pathologically greedy and don't see how taking the greater percentage of the seasonal contract instead of giving it to my employees is going to make a real big difference to me.
      Run an actual business moron before commenting on such topics. Unless its a mom and pop size and grosses less than a half million and has thin profit margins; than a livable wage with benefits is quite attainable the larger the business.

    • @sethseth9059
      @sethseth9059 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nope you're wrong. You'd lose money on the bet. I simply don't take what industry average owners take and I'm fine and doing well. For marketing you clearly don't understand the mark up and that's OK. My friend who owns a moving company with three trucks is the same way. We both don't see the need to gouge labor just because we can and his minimum is twenty as well but not over thirty. Multiple employees. We both could force our labor to minimum wage or close to it, but why, what good would squeezing out a few thousand do for us. This notion of gouging labor is cultural and not necessarily logistical. His business is not a low margin business nor is my marketing. If I had to live solely on the seasonal with a large family then things would be different but not that much.
      Now you'll really flip over what I did this year for snow removal. I gave a percentage to my long term guys, paying them at the back end of month. Essentially paying them the equivalent to a retainer fee which means they get the percent no matter how many times they have to shovel. I will probably do that for summer lawn care as well. This guys don't have down time so to speak as there is something to do every month. My jobs are truly valuable and are valued by my employees because of the value of them compared to some minimum wage slave work elsewhere.
      As for hypocritical. Nope. You're one of those who think capitalism and free markets are the same thing. They are not. To be a Capitalists you have to own an enterprise that is a Corporation; a legal fiction. Your Corporation has to grow in order to be sustainable which means it always has to seek out new markets. Capitalism is great at generating production quickly. A Co-op, Partnership, Sole Proprietor are not Corporations and are sustainable one business cycle to the next without needing to grow and can even contract and still be fine. Of course people who own these three non Corporate entities can act like a Capitalist and many do but they don't have to. Sorry the world you choose to interact with has poisoned your mind and made you think all human interactions are narcissistic and pathologically greedy. What a sad way to live.

      @sethseth9059 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I hate to imagine how the operating theatres are cleaned between each operation. These must be well paid jobs, with proper training, and a private recourse to whistle blowing when bad practices are seen. It's getting better but still bad. As are ward cleaning, pushing a dry mop around, how is that cleaning the ward area. When things are spilt including bodily fluids thry are cleaned up, but to make it extra safe these mops should have antiseptic cleaning solution on them
