Considering this company runs on donations it was good to see these individuals rewarded for the hard work and dedication. Bigger companies have done less for their employees.

I grew up extremely poor. If it wasnt for my local church and community I wouldn't have had food most days. Now that I am an adult I will spend the rest of my life paying it forward. Bc of those people I am who I am. Those doing this work rarely realize just how much of an impact they make on others. I'm from the USA but way to go Canada!!!!

God bless you and anyone who fed you.
I grew up poor, but the problem wasn’t a lack of food, as much as it was abuse by dinting me food. So every time I came over to a friend’s house after school and they just fed me no questions asked, I’d be so grateful.
I know there are all these slogans about “no child should go hungry”, but it really is all from the kindness of strangers. ❤️

@@marialiyubman that was my issue as well. It's not wrong couldn't afford food, my mom just put her cigarettes/soda/junk food over her children having food to eat. My pastor, Curtis, was so kind to us(there were 4 of us in total). He'd drop food off, take us to get medical care, bought my first and only pair glasses as a child(they lasted me until I turned 20yrs old, I was maybe 14 when he bought me them). The best gift that man ever gave me was driving me to a psych hospital when I decided life wasn't worth living anymore. He literally saved me and I will spend every waking second making sure any child that crosses my path has a person like him in their corner

1 thing I notice about these shows is those who have a hard personal life give the most, take the most crap, but keeps pushing on. Rather than being nasty we should understand everyday that someone we come in contact with may be going thru something that a little kindness can make their whole life

My father's family lived in Kansas during The Great Depression. He and his four siblings lived on lard sandwiches until my grandparents brought them all out west to Oregon. As a result my father got a job right out of high school working for Birdseye and he made sure that no one went hungry or had to eat anything they didn't want for the rest of his days. He worked his entire career, 40 years, as an experimental farmer for Birdseye. At his retirement party his siblings all told stories of the times they would have starved even during college days except for my dad driving the two hours to get food to them.

    • @jamegumb7298
      @jamegumb7298 4 ปีที่แล้ว

@luvluca toni That stuff happens. In the Netherlands, they capped the wage of all (partly) government funded institutions. No exceptions, none.
So take Schiphol. Up to that point, the pressure and time consumed and the necessary relocation were valued at a salary of €600K. Now capped at €230K. No more relocation paid for, no more high wage, no more reimbursed tickets for work trips, all had to come out of the 230K. Left about 200K not counting the sale and purchase of the home. Finally one candidate after 2 months, lackluster quality, he came cheap and so somewhat underqualified. Fired in 4 weeks. Took 18 months to get the next candidate. What did they do in the meantime? Expensive foreign emergency/interim managers. Cost? 2-3 million a year. Yes, really. It was considered a good cost saving because they could show no more 600K salary. I would run Schiphol now, for 150K, but I may run it into the ground, and I will not pick up the phone if my 60 hours are up, or during the night, and fuck having to live within 15 minutes just in case.
Other one, a hospital. Know why a cardio pulmonary surgeon makes 1.6 million a year? 15 years of study, get used and abused 80 hours a week during slave wage internships, pay for expensive schooling constantly to keep up, expensive travel all over Europe. So they have a decade, usually less, to pay off all their study debts, pay for a car, house, pay for a pension, with 58-62% income tax for every cent earned over 37K. Hospitals get government money. Every doctor capped at the same max. One hospital went ahead of time, and lost all their doctors, and imported them, wives and kids came along, lawyer fees, paid for housing, all in all, double to triple the cost, and some doctors spoke barely English, let alone Dutch to convey risks or procedures to a patient. Enter specialised intepreters. One Georgian just asked 4 times his hourly for them, he was the only one capable. Worse service because language barrier. They tried to reverse it, but were forced to close and pay for al the imported specialists to relocate back or elsewhere, all their previous staff were headhunted away. I know because I knew their top radiology guy, I went to school with him. He is now in NY getting paid 4 times the money, and they are trying to recoup their student loans but he is not coming back and has no intention to, and the hosptial there is not cooperating in taking money from his paycheck. Their in house Iranian naturalised plastic surgeon now works in a private clinic, and any hospital getting government money has to hire him from that clinic, he gets paid twice the money but the private clinic is probably getting a lot more than that.
My own brother is a good devops engineer and programmer. Private companies pay so so becasue the caps mean lower level employees must make less. He went to Austria, leaves for Ireland soon. The €2400 meant €5200 in Austria, now a multinational in Ireland picked him up for 8000, hell even Belarus paid him €6000 for a while. No government institution will pick him up for that kind of money here, and they need programmers the most. Because they want a knowledge economy. And now suffer braindrain and it is picking up speed.
Just capping every salary done? If your goal is to save costs, be aware it may cost you a lot more in the end, the reall qualified people will be gone. If your goal is to have everyone at the company to make the same amount of money or to make sure lower level employees get double, know that no company will pay lower employees the wages of their top employees, so all go down in earnings. People are paid the kind of money because they are on standby 24/7 also during vacation, will work those 100 hour weeks, will skip on seeing their kid for weeks, all to give the company their time. They may not be so willing if you more than half their salary overnight. So then what?

My Grandparents worked with a big city food bank and when they moved, they helped establish the food bank for that county. I grew up volunteering there, sorting things and such. Edited to ad that it's where I learned to use a forklift and I gradually learned about how Grandpa grew up and it wasn't good and that we are are judged by how the poorest person in our "village " lives. I still volunteer.

Your super people. I think you could go to more restaurants and get food. I have worked
in many and they never thought of not throwing out. You could pick up the food at the
end of day or morning and put it in refrigerator. I gave some to orphans too. You will
    be surprised really good food.

It just seems so unfair that only a small fraction of the food banks get special treatment when there are so many of them. Everyone working in these food banks could use extra help, not just a small number of hand picked food banks. Wouldn't it be nice if the CEO would visit each one of their business locations and pour some love in each of them???

Food Banks Canada is all across Canada, including Vancouver. All of the food banks in Canada are connected through Food Banks Canada. The food banks supply food to most of the soup kitchens and drop in centers. The thing is, most people who need the services don't know about them or don't know where they are. Of course, if everybody knew where they were, all the soup kitchens would be always full of people and the food banks would be always empty of food so most people who need the services still wouldn't get anything. This would be better if most food which was still good wasn't being thrown away by supermarkets and restaurants. Just look up community meals, drop in centers and food banks in Vancouver, you'll find them. Unfortunately, you're right about food quality for the poor. This is due again to most good food being tossed out by businesses rather than being donated. The quality of food at any food bank I've been to was terrible. You'd be lucky if you could put together 1 meal out of 6 bags of stuff because most of it is stuff that doesn't go together. Milk can be donated a day or 2 before it hits the expiry date and still be given away right away, but food banks rarely have milk. The only way this is going to change is if people pressure restaurants, stores and supermatrkets to donate their good before they expire. it's not like they're taking a loss by donating, they can simply claim the donation on their taxes and get the money back for it rather than tossing it out and losing the money they spent on it. There is a nice drop in/soup kitchen in Kingston Ontario which is set up like a restaurant, and you are served at the table. You pay $1 for a meal and it's always good food. This place does not get donations from food banks, but instead runs entirely off of the money paid for the meals. This makes sense, because 1 person cannot feed themselves with $1, but 100 people can feed more than 100 people if they each have $1.
