We are back again today with the new 2019 Chevrolet Camaro 1LE. What makes this particular car unique is the 2.0L turbocharged engine under the hood instead of the standard V6 and V8 engines found in previous models.
    Enjoy!

I had a 2017 2.0T RS 6 Speed and a 2017 Camaro SS 6 speed and I honestly had more fun driving the 2.0. The steering is phenomenal on both, but when you remove 200+ lbs off the front end it makes a huge difference in how the Camaro steers and handles and brakes. Anyone that hates on the 4 banger hasn't driven one because I miss it more than I do my SS. Just an FYI, the screen is tilted down to reduce glare and I am also 6'1" and I had zero issues seeing/reading it and the seats in both were the most comfortable of any car I have ever had. Great review and I just subscribed!

Damn! Are you me? I'm also 6'1 with both a 17 Camaro I4 turbo and a 17 Camaro SS...my FBO Camaro I4 turbo with a Spec stage 1 clutch and aluminum flywheel is my favorite to drive of the 2....It feels like I'm driving an elite European sports car.

The only 'problem' with this car is that the V8 exists. Instead of asking is this a REAL muscle car, why not ask if it's a great SPORTS car? Spoiler alert: it absolutely is.
It's an awesome performance car for the price. The pool of new RWD performance cars is very small in the sub 30K (USD) range. You have what? The MX-5, BRZ, Mustang, Camaro and Challenger? This car and the Ecoboost Mustang smashes all of them. You should be comparing this car to those, not to the V8 versions which cost 7 to 10K more. Hell, even most of the hot hatches (Civic Type R, Focus RS) cost at least 6K more.
As for the V6 Camaro, it also offers similar performance to this and sounds AWESOME, especially with the factory NPP performance exhaust. It's very close to a Jaguar V6, but without the constant crackles. Camaros have had V6s pretty much since the beginning, so I dunno how you or anyone else can say that it should only come with a V8. The V6 was always the volume seller and helped keep the car in production. There wouldn't be a Camaro without the V6 keeping it alive.

one thing i noticed is that, while the 4-cylinder mustang has more power, it weighs 740lbs more (!?) so the horsepower per ton is actually almost 10% higher for the camaro

I have this car and I’am definitely happy with it! Obviously it looks strange to an American user, I can understand that, but in Europe and expecially in Italy where I live, having a V8 is so uncommon! Here taxes kills you with a V8 and fuel as well is a pain in the a-s... :D
Also, the roads here are completely different. We have tons of corners and narrow roads. When you judge this car I think you should consider how variable and rich with differences the world is ;)

I just bought a 2022 4 cylinder camaro. Its more like a really nice athletic sports coupe in a camaro body. It sounds nice, not nearly as loud as v8 but thats not a bad thing in my book. Its my daily driver, so I can floor it on a lot of roads and use the car to its fullest every day, which I dont think I could do with a v8. Its also about $15k-$20k cheaper than a v8 which for a 23 year old is a decent chunk. Im happy with it, and if you dont plan on racing at the track or care about having the fastest/loudest camaro possible than I recommend it!

  • @jvb21

I have a 2.0 turbo camaro, and it has plenty of power for city driving. Better fuel economy than the mustang ecoboost too. If you plan on driving hard on the track/ drag strip or street racing, Definitely go for the V6 or V8. Otherwise 2.0 turbo is great. Especially with aftermarket high flow intake/downpipe and a tune.

Easily the best Camaro 2.0 review on TH-cam. I’ve been looking around for this exact spec, but they are impossible to find. Considered one with just the RS pkge, but decided against it - want the 1LE with that transmission and that engine. Road trip, BC mountain driving perfection (I grew up in Lillooet - you’ll know where that is if you’re from BC). Thanks for the great review. 👍

It's a shitty muscle car, but it's a great sports car. Randy Pobst, who has one of the best jobs in the world as a motor journalist and racing driver, was recently looking to get one of these as his new daily driver. There's no better praise for a "regular" car than when a journalist spends his own money on it.

That's what made me really interested in these things. If randy has no problem getting it as a daily why should we ? I think we worry too much about other people's opinions. Don't get me wrong, obviously if I could afford a new ss 1le I would buy it, but as a junior in college my budget is tight. You can also modify this thing and it would be a little rocket !!

This car is kinda weird, its a great little car just completely held back by its name: Camaro. Coming from an ATS owner, it helps us with the ATS get mods because it's definitely modded more than the ATS. But if you want a 2L turbo 6MT RWD American car, get the ATS. Most LTG owners and modders would probably agree, Same Chassis, same power output, weight is generally the same(mine fully loaded weighed 3350lbs). Plus access to more features Magride etc, better interior and more comfort. The LTG is a decent motor, not the best sounding but smooth and torquey, most people who drive these things (alpha chassis cars) are impressed with how well they handle. Pistons are glass so tune with that in mind, be conservative and you should be good.

Such a great chasis but horrid coffin slit view. Being taller its just a no go as you have to bend forward to see anything. Just terrible design on an otherwise brilliant car. Hate that. Tall people can fit perfectly in it but can't see out of it as your head is above the windshield.

Here is the problem everyone has with this car and where GM messed up. It's a Camaro. It cut its teeth being a fast V8 monster, and that's how the populace sees it and how GM markets it. But they wanted to make a car with lower power but still a sports car to compete with other lower power cars at a lower price point, and chose to use the camaro body. That goes against what the people know a Camaro as. If GM would come up with their own new car (still based off the Alpha platform) but made it smaller then the Camaro so it was lighter and separate from it, they could throw in all the turbo 4's and V6's that they want to and still wouldnt get the hate they get for this car. They could literally build a Cayman/boxer fighter with the V6 model and a miata/brz fighter with a 4 cyl. Make it a new corvair or some shit idk lol.

    • @tmmurphy
      @tmmurphy 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I get what you're saying but GM doesn't have the money for 3 separate platforms for what would essentially be niche vehicles selling at low volume. If anything all those years of poor performing base model F cars and Mustangs ruined the public's perception so when they finally made a great V6 and Inline 4 and put them in a chassis that can handle no one considers it a win.

I read the comments here and there's alot of hate here because it's a 4 pot turbo in THIS car. Do the numbers mean anything to you people? Just 14 years ago a Mustang GT made 300 hp, can't remember the torque figures but this 2.0L turbo is pretty close to that 4.6L V8, something to think about. Let's also think about the fact that the 1LE option is now available here!
The bigger issue with the car is the car itself, fugly compared to the Mustang and gets worse and worse every model change. It's due to be killed off in 2023, yet one less CAR to be made, failure again GM😮
