  • This Chevrolet Camaro 2.0T is the entry-level model, rivaling Ford's "Ecoboost" Four-Cylinder Mustang. making 275 horsepower and 295 lb/ft of torque. This, it should be noted, is roughly what you got with a 1994 Camaro Z/28, with the LT1 V8. Its owner, Jimmy, is actually a professional courier, which has allowed him to rack up an extraordinary amount of miles on this Camaro in the first year.
    Check out Jimmy's TH-cam channel here:

    Kid wanted a Camaro and got a sweet one for the $$. For what he wanted: i.e. a fuel efficient (and low insurance), stylish car he got a decent deal. I like the interior of the Camaros but they're like a bunker to see out of.

    I follow this Kids channel. He is cool. Anybody that thinks this isnt a cool car for 26k is fucking nuts. People buy all kinds of cars with 2.0ts and 1.8ts for way much more money that arent as fun as this car. Fucking thing is loaded out with row your own and can get 32 mpgs hwy. It also looks good, I like this front end and style better then the SS actually. At 3200 pounds the 4 pot is more then enough to have fun on technical roads and pass on the hwy. This kid is smarter then most people for hunting down such a bargain.. Im sure he saves money on insurance as well. The car is 0 to 60 in the 5 sec range for a daily driver its not slow or underpowered.

      @dont_at_me__ 6 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      I highly doubt it. I have that same 2.0T in my ATS, which is basically the same platform the Camaro is based off of and city MPG is still low 20's and highway right around 30. The V6 Camaro is very close to the same, with a lot less explaining to have to do as to why you got a "muscle car" with a 4cyl.

    • @andrewreyes986
      @andrewreyes986 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Adventure Mazda hey man I follow your channel! Theres actually a 5 mile difference in MPG’s in the city so that will add up in the end especially with the big tank. Plus I’m sure its much easier to handle without a big V8 in the front.

  • @GordonGEICO
    @GordonGEICO 6 ปีที่แล้ว +36

    I was a bit skeptical when they were talking about curb weights... but double-checking Chevy's specs, the car does indeed have a curb weight of 3354 lbs. Car and Driver tested a manual 2.0T and it came out to 3410 lbs (they actually put it on the scale) which sounds about right when you add in the $10k in options their test car had.
    Nice job Chevy for making a car closer to 3000 lbs than 4000 lbs. I really wish even more engineering was put into making cars lighter rather than just adding more and more power to the point of absurdity.

    I feel like the 4-cyl and V6 Camaro are seriously good cars for the money, and yet they get no respect simply because there are (many) better versions available.
    I mean I get it...the V8 is the one to get. It's the one I want to get. But that doesn't make the 4-cyl and V6 bad, and it doesn't prevent them from being one of the best sports cars you can get for under $30k.

    • @tuitaco
      @tuitaco 6 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Adam S this car having an i4 and v6 configuration shows how far the Camaro has come in terms of the rest of the cars dynamics. No longer needs the v8 to maintain good car status.

    • @DCGarage
      @DCGarage 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Arthur Wall the 350Z HR has an almost identical 0-60 and 1/4 mile as the 11-14 Mustang V6 and can't beat it in the corners either (the Mustang is actually slightly faster around a corner). The only place the 350Z HR is noticeably faster is top speed due to the Mustangs electronic limiter. Even then, the track edition 350Z HR could only match the 2011 V6 Mustang around VIR in Car and Driver's lightning lap test. Yes, the 350Z costs less, but it's also older, much less practical, and less efficient.

    • @DCGarage
      @DCGarage 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Even then they're effectively the same. Different magazines quote different numbers, but they're easily in the same range.

    • @jpc1073
      @jpc1073 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      DC Garage - Numbers dont always tell the story. Corner speed isnt the determining factor when comparing handling between cars, some of these sedans corner faster than a miata.... does that mean it handles better? Nope. The driving dynamics are better in the 350z HR vs 2011 Mustang V6 its not something that can be seen on paper and can only be felt when driving them. Also im not sure what you mean by less efficient the VQ35HR makes 306 HP on a 3.5L engine the Mustang makes less (305 hp) on a bigger 3.7L engine.

These cars start at just under $26k, and at any given point you can get a few thousand off, so your car at $20k sounds like a much better deal as it undercuts the realistic price of a Focus ST, GTI, BRZ/GT86, etc.

    @rudytaneloruxy9491 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Matt , I think you should have done a bit more tight roads and explored/exploited the handling of this car. It is my understanding that due to GM shaving so much weight off this car (the kid removed 150 pounds more) that the turn in is very good and it changes direction very well. I thought it was noteable that he is running all seasons as well. At that low curb weight and not being overpowered it is easier to have the car stick without expensive sticky summer tires that need need replacing every couple oil changes, which really adds to the expense of owning a car (especially if you get any flats and need to then replace 2 for even wear). i think there is alot more interesting points that alot of people don't consider when looking at this car. Although with a deep discount its not as appealing for sure , but cost of ownership is worth mentioning. I imagine with the all seasons and advanced TC these days the car is also driveable in certain snowy conditions where any car with giant summer tires will be useless. Lastly, no dig on you but I bet with just him in the car and the 150 extra pounds he removed i bet it feels a bit livlier .

    I bought a 2019 turbo camaro. It's a blast to drive. They could've had a little more fun in the car in this video, it really doesn't do it justice. This car MOVES and its so light compared to the SS, it feels like you are flying around the corners. Base models can be had around 20k. I don't feel the need to add a single thing to my car, except maybe add the 4 piston brembos in the front when the time is right. The LTG is a great motor and the tremec 3160 perfectly complements it.

    Technically, when the 2.0L came out it was supposed to go against the Mustang's 3.7L V6 while the Camaro's 3.6L V6 is supposed to go against the 2.3L Ecoboost. Things changed when Ford stopped making the 3.7L V6 which was detuned and shunned before it was killed despite being a great engine :(

  • @eaglefat9398
    @eaglefat9398 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I didn't get the four cylinder Camaro until i got a T2.0 Buick regal and realized i can get a ZZP PCM that bumps it up 40hp and makes the throttle response way better, at 300hp its on par with the v6 but in a lighter car, and ZZP has a no modification bolt on turbo that is good for 500hp. The T2.0 is so easy and relatively cheap to mod it kinda makes the v6 pointless besides the fact the v6 actually sounds good now , but there is not much you can do to get more power out of the v6 whereas the T2.0 only costs $1,900 to mod for v8 power levels.

      I'm subbed to a guy who owns a V12 miata. you should tell him how great a 5 ton 4 cylinder car is. MPG makes sense however that doesn't make it cool. Here in Germany we have the autobahn yet every fucking street in my city is filled with fucking disgusting hatchbacks because of MPG. is that cool?

    • @Dolby109
      @Dolby109 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      アマ - "how great a 5 ton 4 cylinder car is" Huh? This car is ~3200lbs, which is 1452kg. Not that heavy in this day in age. Obviously it's not as cool as the 455hp V8 (or 650hp Supercharged V8) that is available, but it's still a good car, especially for the price.
      It would be nice to have more lap data on the base Camaro but no one seems to test anything below the V6 1LE which has done quite well. But based on the chassis and reviews even the base model should be quite adept on track.

    • @user-hr2zy7ct8h
      @user-hr2zy7ct8h 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      yeah but I'm saying for the price you can have a V12 miata so it's V12 sleeper vs 4 cyl muscle car

    • @JustcallmeGnarly22
      @JustcallmeGnarly22 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      アマ you’re seriously comparing a stock base model Camaro to a one off custom garage built Miata? You act like anyone can just do that. I didn’t even know you could fit a V12 in a Miata. Plus I’m sure it required countless hours of cutting and custom fab just to fit it between the shock towers. This isn’t a comparison. A legit comparison would be why buy this Camaro when I could get an older SS for cheaper. However, that’s not the point.

    • @user-hr2zy7ct8h
      @user-hr2zy7ct8h 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was joking bro. Didn't expect that V12 to fit in a miata either.
      There's no comparsion to make because the decision was about MPG. So you can only compare this to economy cars, and in that case I'd say fuck it, go for a cheap ass economy car and just get a fun car for the weekends or whatever. I hate it when people make compromises and get an iconic sports/muscle car with an economy engine. It's just a no good. VW is building so many shitty GTIs because of MPG. As long as you're not paying shittons of taxes and insurance for each car you own and your petrol isn't as expensive as whisky (meaning you don't live in germany) you shouldn't buy crap like this. If you have 20 or 35k, you can get an economy car and a serious fun car. Settling for a compromise means one of the following: A) you want to show off or care to much about how you look inside your car B) you care to much about luxury and comfort and buy a nice car with a piece of shit engine to feel good meaning your enthusiasm is very different from mine because I care about going fast and having fun C) you're stupid and want to push manufacturers to downsize their engines and build economy engines into ANYTHING. there are 2 retarded trends right now: put 900 hp engines into mercedes G classes (brabus). downsize your iconic sportscars (M3) while putting 700hp V12s into luxury boat-cars (760LI). if people keep buying expensive cars with MPG as a main concern then ferrari will build a 4cyl version of the F12/488 some day.

    I have driven and reviewed a modified ecoboost mustang. It took my stock 05 Mustang GT for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I haven't been able to get in one of these yet, but I assume it would wake up the same with some mods as the ecoboost.
    And even though that ecoboost smoked my aging GT a movie is only as good as it's soundtrack. At least, that is what I tell myself when window shopping for a power adder. HA!

    The screen is tilted down to avoid sun glare. It's really weird to get used to but on a sunny day you learn to appreciate it. I rented a Camaro for a week and I hated the screen the first few days but by the end of the week I got used to it and then when I went back to my car and saw how bad the glare was on my infotainment, I kinda realized the benefit of it.

  • @b0bsaget007
    @b0bsaget007 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I really don't understand any of the hate around this car. I have one of these, same model year, same engine and transmission, and similarly equipped (minus one package). It retailed for $33k USD, and I got it for $24K. I would've wanted a 1SS, but that was out of my budget, so I went with the best that I could afford. I chose to stick with the 2.0T as opposed to the V6 because the 2.0T pairs better with the manual gearbox, which is what I wanted instead of the automatic; and, with a few bolt-ons and a custom tune, I can have performance much closer to the SS than the V6 would ever give me.
    But that's also not to say that the V6 is all bad. When paired with the automatic, the V6 actually gets better gas mileage on cheaper regular fuel, and the sound of the V6 competes with the likes of Jaguar and Nissan. The only shortcoming with the V6 is aftermarket support for serious performance modifications, since everyone is focused on the V8 and 2.0T offerings.

    • @b0bsaget007
      @b0bsaget007 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've seen people with the V6 and 8-speed automatic achieve 40 MPG on long highway trips. I get around 26 MPG average with my 2.0T and 6-speed manual.
      Also, I haven't heard of anyone putting turbos or superchargers on this new V6.

    Great video, Matt. I enjoyed your honesty on the glare issues with the Camaro’s and Mustang’s. This car is a steal imo. I’ve seen these LTG I4 (I think that’s what they’re called) make 400-500 hp in a few Cadillac ATS’, so at this weight with a few more mods, you could have a car that has a better power to weight ratio than an SS Camaro - it would feel lighter on its feet, too. I’d still get the V8 for the sound, though, and Katech has been making crazy NA LT1 builds lately.

      A alpha platform Camaro that weighs 3,200lbs is hard to fuck with on the track, especially once it adds a ZZP tune for $400 which bumps it up to 315hp , i think a 315hp Camaro might even be able to hold it own against a c5 corvette.

      Clous the alpha chassis is one of the best handling platforms on the market right now even hold a top spot on the ring with a 7.16 lap tine, faster then the corvette Z06 and several lambo,Ferrari,Porsche's and the T2.0L is 500lbs lighter the the car that set that lap time.
