That vial of "mithril" Annatar gave Celebrimbor occurs during his illusion. We saw him cut his hand with that dagger earlier. I think Sauron gave him something containing some of his essence for the forging of the 9! Sauron just disguised it as mithril. Incredible!

34:41 it's probably a vial of sauron's blood (we see him cut his hand a moment before) but since we are in that "dream" sequence celebrimbor thinks it's mithril. That also could explain why the 9 were so powerful on the minds of their wearers if sauron's own blood was in them

Reducing Sauron's power to a kind of sexy time is the most obvious and worst decision the writers could have made. Boring for casuals, moronic for readers.

One thing I love about seeing Celebrimbor being manipulated by Annatar's talk of Feanor is that Feanor isn't just the "greatest elven smith of all time" (leading Celebrimbor to want to be better on a professional level) but Feanor is Celebrimbor's _grandfather._ And Feanor was (at best) deeply problematic, if not an outright villain. And of Feanor's seven sons, Celebrimbor's own father was one of the worst. I think they're doing a great job of showing how blindly driven Celebrimbor is in light of this - not only to be the better crafts-elf, but to be a better _person_ than his father and grandfather ... and, in so doing, try to redeem the dire mistakes of his family line which led to so much death and suffering.

The secret fire is not something Gandalf “uses”. The secret fire is basically the Power of Creation that is within Eru Illuvatar, the God of the Tolkien universe. So when Gandalf said in Fellowship “I’m a servant of the secret fire, wielder of the flame of Arnor”, he’s only letting the Balrog know, that he is in fact a Maiar like the Balrog himself.

I think that was Sauron sensing the Balrog, not summoning it. We know it has been stirring since the end of last season. If anything, the Dwarves will awaken the Balrog due to digging too greedily and too deep due to the influence of Durin's ring of power.

@@TheMagicJIZZ Yep. Balrogs are among the most powerful of Maiar spirits. The very word means "Mighty Demon" (Bal + rog), and with exception of Sauron himself, they were Morgoth's most powerful lieutenants during the First Age, leading Orc hosts into battle, razing cities and forests alike to the soil. The Balrog in Khazad-dum is the only one known to have survived Morgoth's fall, hiding itself in the depths of the earth and seemingly going to sleep.
Whether or not Sauron could command a Balrog is something of a debatable matter, given that they held positions of similar (though not identical) authority under Morgoth. Imagine if at the end of the Lord of the Rings Sauron was defeated but both Saruman and one of the Ringwraiths survived. It is unlikely that the Wraith would have any loyalty or deference for Saruman, but that does not mean that the White Wizard couldn't factor the Wraith's actions into his plan and play it like everyone else. At least that is how I've always interpreted Sauron's relationship with the Balrog. He does not command it, but that does not mean he cannot make use of it.

Great reaction as always! Just gonna be one of those guys for a minute to clarify a couple things from 38:40:
1 - According to Tale of Years in the LOTR Appendices it took 90 years from when they began to forge the Rings of power to the completion of the Three Rings (SA 1500 - 1590). Before that, it took 300 years of tutelage under Sauron before they could have even attained their skill level.
    The entries:
-1200 Sauron endeavours to seduce the Eldar. Gil-galad refuses to treat with him; but the smiths of Eregion are won over. The Númenóreans begin to make permanent havens.
    - c. 1500 The Elven-smiths instructed by Sauron reach the height of their skill. They begin the forging of the Rings of Power.
    - c. 1590 The Three Rings are completed in Eregion.
    - c. 1600 Sauron forges the One Ring in Orodruin. He completes the Barad-dûr. Celebrimbor perceives the designs of Sauron.
    - 1693 War of the Elves and Sauron begins. The Three Rings are hidden.
2 - And from Silmarillion we understand that it was only after Sauron's "help" did they advance so much, so it's not like there were no hiccups or that they made the rings with no trials:
"Therefore they hearkened to Sauron, and they learned of him many things, for his knowledge was great. In those days the smiths of Ost-in-Edhil surpassed all that they had contrived before; and they took thought, and they made Rings of Power."
3 - Lastly, there indeed was the siege of Eregion throughout the books.
For quick sourcing, here are the Tale of Year entries:
1695 Sauron’s forces invade Eriador. Gil-galad sends Elrond to Eregion
    1697 Eregion... (Spoilers in source.)
This makes the siege on Eregion a two-year campaign (though the War of Sauron and the Elves began two years prior)!
Outside the appendices, there is much further and deeper lore on the siege of Eregion in The Silmarillion under "Of The Rings of Power and the Third Age" and a bit more in Unfinished Tales under "History of Galadriel and Celeborn)

  • @rubychan2288
    @rubychan2288 3 วันที่ผ่านมา +4

The siege of Eragion is very much in the books. It's part of the broader War of Sauron and the Elves. But, events happen in a different order.
Book-wise, Sauron infiltrates and works on and refines the rings for 300 years. In the end they forge 16 rings for elves, which he secretly corrupts. Sauron then leaves and goes to Mount Doom to forge the Ruling Ring in secret. While he's gone, Celebrimbor uses what he's learned from "Annatar" forges and three more rings without him present. When Sauron tries to mind control the Ringbearers with the Ruling Ring, the bearers of the three uncorrupted rings sense what he's doing. They take off their rings and stop anyone from using the 16 either.
Sauron's army attacks Eragion and he reclaims the 16, but not the separately hidden three. More fighting ensues and important book stuff happens.
All bridges with the elves burnt, Sauron turns to the other races. He gives seven of the 16 to the dwarves (one to each clan) and distributes the remaining nine to assorted mannish servants. The show is moving everything around, so a lot of stuff is original as a result, but the broad strokes are all their.

They do the official book covers and the illustrations for new publications (together with Ted Nasmith) and they were the chief conceptual designers for the movies. John Howe is working for Rings of Power, too. I have seen him drawing rings in a making off video.

Getting real Ned Stark vibes from that scene with Elendil...except that Elendil (of necessity) survives his humiliating trial. As to the orcs attacking Eregion...it DOES happen in the lore, it just doesn't happen until the Third Age. The Rings of Power is so far taking 95-99% of their material from the actual lore, but they are just significantly compressing the time span during which these events happen. I don't mind too much, Peter Jackson did the same. As long as they don't just make shit up, and stay fairly true to *what* happened, I don't mind them squishing the timeline to show the interconnections and consequences.

Sorry to correct you Augustin, but the Siege of Eregion is from the books!

Edit: "Headbutt pushes his glasses up the bridge of his nose" and says: "Um...actually..: ( I love y'all but it must be done.)
Augustin said Uruk means a Orc human hybrid but I think that is a corruption of the meaning in the PJ movies.
Uruk is just Orc in the the black speech of Mordor. That is why Adar keeps being touchy about it. He wants his "children" to have an identity of their own basically. Uruk and Uruk-hai are just different forms of the same word, an Uruk would be like an almost academic designation but Uruk-hai mean orc-folk or orc-people. Example maybe something like we saw a band of Uruk vs. those are the Uruk-hai. Chexican vs. Chexicans I guess.
Galadriel keeps defaulting to Orc because that is either the Noldorin or Sindarin way to say orc. Like Urko and Orko is teh elven for it, iirc. She won't use the black speech for the same reason folks freak out when anyone does it in the books or even in the movie I think Gandlaf does it at Rivendell. To speak it is like a desecration of the air that even creates the words.I am certain I read that on a website at some point on some adhd fueled hyper-fixation spree.
That is also why it is significant that Galadriel decides to speak it. Even if she is just doing it to as a ploy or if they mean to signify her genuinely coming over to Adar's side a bit; her doing it is a desecration and shows some capitulation on her part.

5:29 he refers to him and his kind as Uruks in the first season as well, and they are not the same as the Uruk-hai created by Saruman. Not quite clear how the show is defining it or is f it's the same as the books but I think the Uruk were the original orcs or something of the sort , and Saruman's Uruk-hai are a different breed.

I get why the book fans are upset but they need to just calm down cause they change things with every adaptation I mean just look at the the games Shadow Of Mordor and Shadow Of War they went further away from the lore than this show ever did so far especially in the second game I mean The Bright Lord come on

Sorry to play devil's advocate for Eärien but I feel I must defend her for just a second 😂 From her perspective, her dad is falling further in with a Conservative religious sect instead of dealing with the grief of losing his son (and probably also his wife, and the estrangement of his other son). We as the audience have the benefit of knowing a lot that Eärien doesn't. I don't agree with a lot of her choices, but I do feel a need to stand up for her a bit. But we'll see where her story goes, I may change my mind!

Yeah from her point of view her dad has joined an outlawed cult and sided with the elf-lover who got her brother killed in a faraway place. She feels abandoned in her grief.

the corruption of the ring on durins father reminds me of when I had to watch my own grandmother getting devoured by Alzheimers. This smart woman that had worked all her life as a scientist, doing studies on aids and ebola slowly turned into a mind of a 5 year old again. I watched my mother cry in despair just as Durin becouse there was just nothing she could do to save or bring her mother back.

Guy on the right is always just slightly off with his tolkien lore. Not that its bad. It’s just not entirely correct. “Uruk” and “uruk-hai” are different. Gandalf doesnt “use” the secret fire but is rather powered by it

Those aren't crocodile tears from Eärien. She is genuinely devastated that her father has put his faith in an illegal archaic cult just so he can be loyal to the elf-loving-queen he fancies who was responsible for leading her naive brother to battle and death in a faraway land. She doesn't understand why Elendil would betray his family and the people of the island in this way. She had already lost her mother and is estranged from her older brother. Apparently a scene was cut between her and Valandil in which she sought for them to mourn Isildur, but she was rebuffed. She has no one to mourn with and this is how her grief is being channeled. I don't have complete sympathy for her but I don't think she's insincere.

Uruk-Hai , you see in Lord of the Rings, but this one is a Uruƙ, only half!!!! The Word Hai means in Mordor, "Globin Men", that is why, Gandalf says to Lord Elrond, that Saruman is crossing Orcs with Goblins!

@5:00 - this fluting of gentle whispers conveying nothing more than what we already know and some kind of cat and mouse play with no stakes. Eregion is populated by 14 elves led by a befuddled fancy uncle who is supposed to be a generation younger than galadriel. So why do we care?
